Throughout this season of the series I've been speaking with leaders who have used their design superpowers in community and civic leadership roles, and in this episode I continue that thread in my conversation with Richard Hollant. In 1988 Richard founded CO:LAB as a design consultancy with a focus on brand design and product launches. Over time the firm moved from its original home in Boston, to Hartford, Connecticut, and has shifted its focus from brand design to social impact work, engaging with community and cultural organizations in Hartford and across Connecticut. CO:LAB has won awards from PRINT, HOW, and Cause/Effect among others, and Richard has been featured in Business Weekly, Communication Arts, and Fast Company. A longtime leader in AIGA, the professional association for design in the US, Richard was appointed Commissioner of Cultural Affairs for the City of Hartford in 2017, and during the Covid pandemic he was tapped by the Mayor of Hartford to lead the strategic reopening of the arts, culture, and recreation throughout that city. In 2019, Richard founded Free Center—a collection of rehabilitated community spaces providing free access to arts, culture, trauma healing, and advocacy programming in forgotten neighborhoods across Connecticut.

Hello everyone! Billy A. here with my guest Cole Marcus, who is no stranger to our Drum Channel audience. I remember meeting and seeing Cole mesmerize a crowd at a NAMM SHOW when he was four years old, which doesn't sound odd these days, but over two decades ago, it wasn't as common as now. These days, now twenty-five years old, Cole has released a new single “Cause & Effect,” which he wrote, recorded, sang, as well as playing all the instruments. In this segment, we talk about recording, songwriting, his early years appearing in movies, and TV commercials, and transitioning into composing for films. Let's welcome Cole back to Drum Channel. Episode 159: In Conversation with Rob Rowe and Von Hertzog (VH x RR) - New Music: "When Morning Comes" It's always great to have friends swing by the BlueZone Studio, but when they bring BRAND NEW MUSIC with them for us to sample and share with you, it's even better!! Brian & Sarah welcome back VH x RR (aka Rob Rowe and Von Hertzog) on the eve of the release of their latest single, "When Morning Comes." "WMC" is already one of our favorite tracks from the duo, and it was a blast to get all the details on the song from its creators. It's a bit of an evolution from the sound we heard on their last EP, "On the Shoulders of Giants", but it's a very natural evolution and the track sits comfortably alongside the best of VH x RR's previous work. Over the course of the discussion, other important topics are covered, including: Updates on Rob and Von's respective solo projects What do Rob and Von think of "Memento Mori" and what influence did Depeche Mode have on Cause & Effect? Who's reading Rick Rubin's new book and what's it all about? Brian Belknap: Is he a vampire?? Many thanks to VH x RR for giving us the opportunity to premiere this wonderful new track! There are many reasons parents shouldn't be overprotective. The psychological effects of overprotective parents can be significant. The most notable one is that it hurts their children's growth and development into well-adjusted, independent adults. Here are the different ways this harm manifests. PORTLAND, Ore. — Crystal Dunn was often the only Black girl on her youth soccer clubs, and even when she finally made it to the national team, she did her own hair and makeup for photo shoots because "there wasn't someone set up for me." While the U.S. national team has steadily become more representative, Dunn says there's still work to be done. That starts with making sure young women of color feel included all the way down to the youth level. "I had very supportive parents who explained to me that, 'This is OK, you are still welcome in this sport. And just because there aren't many people that look like you, this is still your game,'" Dunn said. That support was key to her success "because honestly at the end of the day, it's pretty lonely to feel like you're the only one in this space and to not feel as if you belong." From the inquire.org : U.S. Soccer dismisses USMNT general manager Brian McBride McBride and sporting director Earnie Stewart received complaints from Claudio Reyna, their former U.S. teammate, over the lack of playing time for Claudio's son Gio at the recent World Cup. Brian McBride is out as U.S. men's soccer team general manager, multiple outlets reported Friday night, in the wake of the World Cup and this month's Reyna-Berhalter scandal. McBride and sporting director Earnie Stewart received complaints from Claudio Reyna, their former U.S. teammate, over the lack of playing time for Claudio's son, Gio, in Qatar. It's not yet known how McBride responded to them. Nor is it specifically clear whether Claudio sent McBride the threat to reveal manager Gregg Berhalter's 31-year-old domestic violence incident that Claudio's wife, Danielle Reyna, sent to Stewart. Danielle sent the threat, and later publicly admitted to doing so, without the consent of the victim, her former college roommate and Gregg's then-girlfriend — now-wife of 25-plus years — Rosalind. What Happens when you overprotect your children: -Worry is a recurrent, dysfunctional and rigid form of negative thinking that is often a primary sign of generalized anxiety disorder. -Parental overprotection can undermine a child's development of independent coping skills. -Overprotectiveness conveys to the child a sense that the world is dangerous. It reinforces avoidance and keeps children from engaging in social situations restricting the opportunities to build friendships and learn social skills. -Overprotective parents go out of their way to make sure their children don't fail. They rescue their children quickly and provide them with unnecessary assistance, often without being asked. -Higher occurrence of anxiety and depression, overprotected children also have lower self-esteem and confidence in their ability to solve everyday problems. -Overprotective parenting is associated with high degrees of bullying experienced by the child --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/coachcameron/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/coachcameron/support
As we've been discussing the Esoteric Mystery Teachings, today we bring back the focus on the fifth Natural Law principle - The Principle of Cause & Effect. Much of what we've been covering refers to the Kabalistic teachings and these teachings come from The Three Initiates.
