It's not often that you get to talk to someone who has seen every press release and been part of innovation discussions for the last 35 years, not to mention who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the opportunities and challenges for our tech and science businesses. In this episode we caught up with Tony Quested and Jamie Quested to talk about not just their #BusinessWeeklyAwards, but the much broader impact and reach of Business Weekly since 1990. Here are some highlights· Current trends include a rise in genomics, synthetic biology, and quantum computing· The US will continue to buy up our companies, to access the brain power and innovation across Cambridge and the East of England cluster…· …but they will now keep the business here - like Featurespace (Visa), IQGeo (KKR), and Darktrace (Thoma Bravo) – rather than lifting and shifting to the US· The demand for 100,000 engineers by leading tech companies will require different thinking· The importance of ‘Brain Gain' and how 70% (£1.65bn) of fundraising in the last year came out of the University of Cambridge…· … and how overall funding in the last year topped £2.3bn of which £1bn was for tech (remainder life sciences), and 50% of all funding went to Cambridge Science Park tenant companies· Whether our entrepreneurs are thinking strategically enough, especially when VCs and funders may have different priorities· And then we finally talk about the Awards, and the ability to spot the successes based on a level of due diligence that is incomparable.Produced by Cambridge TV Hosted on Acast. Throughout this season of the series I've been speaking with leaders who have used their design superpowers in community and civic leadership roles, and in this episode I continue that thread in my conversation with Richard Hollant. In 1988 Richard founded CO:LAB as a design consultancy with a focus on brand design and product launches. Over time the firm moved from its original home in Boston, to Hartford, Connecticut, and has shifted its focus from brand design to social impact work, engaging with community and cultural organizations in Hartford and across Connecticut. CO:LAB has won awards from PRINT, HOW, and Cause/Effect among others, and Richard has been featured in Business Weekly, Communication Arts, and Fast Company. A longtime leader in AIGA, the professional association for design in the US, Richard was appointed Commissioner of Cultural Affairs for the City of Hartford in 2017, and during the Covid pandemic he was tapped by the Mayor of Hartford to lead the strategic reopening of the arts, culture, and recreation throughout that city. In 2019, Richard founded Free Center—a collection of rehabilitated community spaces providing free access to arts, culture, trauma healing, and advocacy programming in forgotten neighborhoods across Connecticut.

She is the author of the bestselling book, Get What You Want: How to Go From Unseen to Unstoppable. Here are the takeaways... When we hit a rock bottom, the hard truths are revealed. It's in those moments we get to decide if we want to set ourselves free or not. Julie says, "If you know someone headed to a rock bottom moment, get out of the way." Some of those moments where we realize there's no one coming to save us are the moments we accept and embrace our own personal responsibility and accountability. The day you take responsibility for your life is the day your life really starts. We can't heal ourselves from anything until we understand what it means to nurture ourselves. This will look different for everyone. Get the support you need whether that means coaches, therapists, books, or mediations. It's likely a lifelong journey. Your self-concept is what is behind your upper limits. This can be in relationship to your identity, your finances, your success, etc. You can raise your self-confidence by giving yourself compassion, allowing yourself to take risks, being creative and being flexible. Create goals that are a reach but are also achievable. You don't need a massive reason why you want what you want. It's ok to simply want it. Massive expansion can be the result of being self-compassionate with yourself. Using affirmations can be very supportive as you create the internal changes you are seeking. Remember Julie's story about the plants... what you think and say to yourself matters. Ask yourself, "Wouldn't it be great it...." and then ask yourself, 'What would it take?" Balancing our feminine energy with our masculine energy can help us be more whole. Feminine energy is the being, receptivity, creativity and "the woo". Masculine energy is the action, the doing, and the strategy. This balance can be approached emotionally and externally. It's important to remember that getting what we want is a choice. We do get to choose the beliefs that we have as adults. If we are aware enough of our beliefs and thoughts we can make different choices. Possibility is where the light is. Some people don't get what they want in life You get to decide if you are "some people". There is so much power in possibility and choice in choosing what you choose to focus on. There will never be a lack of ideas. It can create complexity because we are complex. To expand it's important to simplify, focus down on 1-2 primary things and the rest go into a "holding tank". This will help you to expand a lot faster. It will help you get clear on what is working for you. It's all courage. Connect with Julie... I spent my whole childhood jumping from sport to sport… and then as an adult, from business venture to business venture (can you relate?)... I've always wondered how it is that people can stick with a single passion for years or even decades at a time. I've felt envious of their dedication to one thing, because they were able to become really great at something. Meanwhile, I just felt like I was mediocre at a hundred different things. Today's guest holds a special place in my heart, the beautiful Julie Solomon, who I had the honor of recently interviewing. When I started this podcast she played a pivotal role, as you'll hear, and I just knew that I wanted her to appear on the show once it was launched. I consider this episode with Julie more than just an interview though, as it's more about two powerful women coming together to have a conversation about visibility, asking for and getting what you want in your Beautiful Soul-Led Life, and what's truly possible for women when they give themselves the opportunity to shine. Julie Solomon is a Speaker, Business Coach, Host of the top rated The Influencer Podcast, and Author of the upcoming book, Get What You Want: How to Go From Unseen to Unstoppable (in fact, if you're listening on the day that this episode goes live, June 7th, today is such a special day because Julie's new book just released)! Julie was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in journalism and digital media. In her early career, she worked as a publicist representing top musicians and thought leaders such as Lenny Kravitz and Dave Ramsey. When Julie was fired by a PR client, which triggered an intense break out of hives for a week, she realized how working without a purpose was negatively affecting her. She then worked with a life coach and transitioned into the thriving entrepreneur she is today. Julie has launched several successful online programs including Pitch It Perfect, The Influencer Academy, and SHINE Mastermind, which teach clients how to master the important skill sets needed to take a personal brand idea and turn it into a profitable, sustainable business (such as cherry picking brand partnerships that make you thousands a month, or introducing yourself to an influential community of leaders and getting them excited to support you). In her weekly podcast, The Influencer Podcast, Julie offers up real-time coaching, straight talk, and conversations about business growth and personal development to her millions of listeners worldwide. With over a decade of experience in helping individuals turn messages into movements, Julie empowers entrepreneurs to expand their brand and grow their influence. Julie's work has been featured in top tier outlets including, FORBES, Entrepreneur, Business Weekly, SUCCESS, and People Magazine. And she was recently named one of the Top 100 leaders in Influencer Marketing by Influence.Co. Her upcoming book, Get What You Want, is for people who are tired of being told “just be yourself,” and teaches you how to shake off outdated ideas of what is possible and use your newfound belief to make anything you want happen. Most importantly, it gives you confidence to love and accept yourself so you become unstoppable. Julie's daily routine involves journaling, a movement practice, pulling tarot cards and meditating. When she's not traveling to big cities like Los Angeles, Miami or New York, she enjoys skincare and expanding her knowledge on astrology, horoscopes, and manifestation as spirituality and maintaining connection to a higher power is important to her. Julie currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband, award-winning actor and activist Johnathon Schaech, two children, Camden and Lily Jo. This time with Julie was so beautiful, and I have so much respect and love for her. My intention with having her join me today is that you get to know this powerful woman, and utilize her journey and perspectives as an inspiration as you live your own Beautiful Soul-Led Life. I can't wait to see the impact that her new book has on the world, and if this episode resonates with you, please let us know your biggest takeaways @elegantfemme1 and @julssolomon.

And it's because I didn't have a purpose within me at the time26:45 My driving force of my purpose is definitely freedom to live my life on my own terms27:52 It's not until you have a purpose that you can really map out the blueprint for that vision.29:12 Boundaries are crucial to being able to get what you want in life, and they are really hard. 30:00 There is no greater form of self love than a boundary. It is what speaks your heart to other people.31:37 When I'm no longer delaying my own happiness, I know that I'm advocating for myself, and I'm sharing my boundaries.34:46 Confidence is really about confiding in yourself confiding in that in that zest and that ability to believe in yourself and to advocate for yourself and to show the world who you areTo Get a Signed Copy of the book, click herePurchase your copy on Amazon✨✨✨Connect with Allison:⭐ Connect on Instagram @allisonwalsh⭐ JOIN THE SOCIETY: www.shebelievedsociety.com (use code 2022 to access the Society for $22/month)⭐ Check out recommendations from the show here⭐ Learn how to go from Overcommitted to Unstoppable here

On Business Weekly this week, as the fighting in parts of Ukraine intensified, a suite of sanctions has been levied on Russia, cutting off the country from the inter-bank messaging system Swift and restricting access to the foreign reserves Russia holds in the West's central banks. Many large international companies are scaling down their businesses in Russia, including the oil giants BP and Shell. The global shipping giant Maersk is stopping its ships from docking at Russian ports. Chris Weafer, chief executive of Macro Advisory and a 24-year resident of Moscow tells us what life is like for ordinary Russians. Meanwhile, author and journalist Oliver Bullough tell us how badly the oligarchs will be hit by the sanctions. We also look at the impact of the conflict on Russian and Ukrainian grain exports, particularly for countries in Africa and Southeast Asia that already suffer from food insecurity. And we hear about the parallel cyberwar that's taking place to the one on the ground. Hundreds of thousands of hackers are thought to have signed up to an online army to target Russian banks and institutions. Plus, we analyse Russia's relationship with Africa. Steven Gruzd from the South African Institute of International Affairs in Johannesburg tells us about the extent of Russian military and economic influence in Africa, and how that influence goes some way to explain why so many countries in the region did not to lend their support to the UN draft resolution condemning Russia's aggression Ukraine. Business Weekly is presented by Matthew Davies and produced by Philippa Goodrich.

In Business Weekly, we look at the implications of the European Court of Justice clearing the way for the European Union to cut billions of euros in funding to Poland and Hungary. Judges dismissed a challenge by the two nations, with the court ruling that the EU can suspend funding to member states that violate the bloc's democratic values. Sophie Pornschlegel at the Brussels-based European Policy Centre explains how the cut in funding will hit both countries' economies. Also, we hear why India has banned more than fifty Chinese mobile apps, claiming they pose a threat to national security. Amit Bhandari, a senior fellow for energy investment and connectivity at Gateway House, tells us about the power dynamics between the Asian giants. After years of delays, the green light for what will be the largest heated oil pipeline in the world has been given. Running from Uganda to the cost of Tanzania, the pipeline is being heralded as an economic boon for both countries, but has been fiercely opposed by activists who question its environmental impact. The BBC's Joshua Thorpe takes a closer look at whether the region will truly benefit. Plus, a new study has revealed that a quarter of the world's rivers contain potentially toxic levels of pharmaceutical drugs. We hear more on the findings with Dr John Wilkinson from the University of York who co-led the project. And did you know that one in seven of us – that's one billion people - lives with a disability? However, they can be twice as likely to be unemployed than non-disabled people. The BBC's Tamasin Ford has been speaking to those fighting to end the exclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace. Business Weekly is presented by Ijeoma Ndukwe and produced by Matthew Davies.
In business, there are some jobs that are talked about more opaquely in public discourse than others. Think Military Drone Operator or Industrial Slaughterhouse Manager, for example. These are roles that can raise ethical questions that might take longer than a lunch break to explain. Dirty Work: Essential Jobs and the Hidden Toll of Inequality, is the new book from American journalist Eyal Press, which explores the nature of some of those harder to justify jobs, which Eyal says are perceived as 'dirty work' by the rest of society. Eyal is joined by Rosamund Urwin, journalist for the Sunday Times, to talk about the book. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On this edition of Business Weekly, we're looking at BP's latest results. The energy giant made a profit of $12.8bn last year - thanks mainly to surging oil and gas prices. This comes after a loss in 2020. We hear why some are calling for a ‘windfall tax' - a one-off charge that would then be channelled to help struggling consumers battling price rises. We hear the response from BP, and comments from Connor Schwartz at Friends of the Earth and Tom Wilson from the Financial Times. Staying with rising bills, the BBC's Tamasin Ford investigates the cost of living in different parts of the world. She hears how it is calculated and how increases in everyday essentials impact people in different ways. Also on the programme, we enter the world of fashion, and hear how some apps are trying to increase the sustainability of the industry by encouraging us to buy or rent second-hand. We get a tour of the technology from the BBC's Justin Rowlatt and his daughter, Zola. Turkey is a country with soaring inflation. The currency has lost some 50% of its value in a year. Although this means day-to-day life in the country is hard, it does make it an attractive destination for tourists, who will find their money goes further. The BBC's Victoria Craig talks to visitors in Istanbul about how they're getting more value for money, and visits traders in the Grand Bazaar. Finally, Sasha Twining meets ‘Buddy', a robot pet dog designed for those living with dementia. She speaks to the Chief Executive of Ageless Innovation, Ted Fischer, and hears how the interactive dogs and cats can respond to their human owners and could help those who feel lonely or isolated. Business Weekly is presented by Sasha Twining and produced by Matthew Davies.

Couples Working in the Business - Weekly Blitz with Chris Cotton 015
There's going to be a slow down this week that will allow for self reflection and adjustments. However it is important that you're still showing up and taking action. In this episode I walk you through balancing out your energy and how to do the inner reflection was still moving forward. This week there is going to be a drastic shift in the energy that you are feeling right away. There's going to be a slow down of the energy however is also going to have a slight having to it. This thickening or heaviness of the energy is going to cause you to feel a little bit weighted down. But even with the heaviness you're going to feel like there's less responsibility on your shoulders. Now mid-week there's going to be a very emotional time where you're going to be questioning yourself. This will have you moving into self-assessment, moving into uncovering what it is that you would like to change about yourself and what you're doing. This week there's going to be a lot of focus on the ego energy but it doesn't have to be that way. You have the ability to shift this from ego to heart space simply by adding compassion, understanding, getting excited for the future and letting go of the past. Your goal is to re-define yourself which is heart space driven. Business This week in your business it's important to work on your business and not necessarily in your business. Last week we spent a lot of time growing your business making connections but moving things forward. There was a lot of working with clients, offering services and promoting, which was so helpful. You showed up and did all the things that were meant to do. This week is about redefining and doing the structural aspect. Working through your systems, working through your funnels, working through planning out content for the future. This week is about slowing down of events but not of your time. That means that there will be less going on to distract you and take you away from the things you want to work on, however there will be more time focused on planning and strategizing for your business and for where you're moving forward. This week it's vital you focus on self love and acceptance. This will shift your confidence and cause growth in your business. This episode is going to help you understand all the energy that supports the growth and the results that you desire to see. This week the energy is asking you to slow it down. The focus is still going to be on action, but much more aligned and desired action is being called upon. The energy is asking you to enjoy what it is that you do and to have fun. You don't wanna be caught up in heavy energy, caught up in things that do not bring you joy or happiness in your work. By putting your energy into what you love, you allow it to grow at a faster rate. The energy of trepidation is coming in and will cause fighting between your head and your heart. This is causing you to believe that your plans have slowed down, that your goals have shifted and that things are delayed. However, this is not true it's just a false belief and fear coming up that's from Ego. As you shift from head to heart your perspective needs to shift as well. Two weeks ago I spoke about anxiety energy. This week we are asking you to be wary of it again. Asking you to recognize where your fears are. The Universe is helping you by showing you where you're holding yourself back and are holding on too tightly to the past narrative that no longer serves you or serves us as a whole global community. This week it's important for you to recognize what's possible. Recognize the power that you have and the abilities that you hold and then go out and do what it is you do best. If you want to hear all about what to do with this energy in your business and the chakra we are focusing on tune in now! P.S..
