Joseph De Laine, whose father pushed Clarendon County, S.C., residents to file the lawsuit that resulted in Brown v. Board of Education and the end of separate but equal public schools, looks back on the historic 1954 Supreme Court case.
Pleasant Grove School was significant in education and ethnic heritage. It is one of the oldest surviving purpose-built schools for black students in Clarendon County, South Carolina, and the only surviving pre-war school in the rule Alcolu community. The significance began in 1933 when the black community in Alcolu purchased land and built the school through volunteer fundraising efforts and ended with the school's closure in 1953. Pleasant Grove was a segregated school serving black children during the Jim Crow era and operated in the Clarendon County, white-run school, District. Functioning as a community hub, Pleasant Grove school had a basketball court a baseball field behind the building. The school closed in 1953, at that time 159 students were enrolled. The Pleasant Grove School along with other small real schools were replaced by South Carolina's school equalization program. A state effort to preserve segregated public education. Pleasant Grove School is emblematic of how African Americans pursued civil rights in the early 20th century within the structures of white supremacy. This Rate Watch Wednesday is focused on Medicare Supplement Plan G, for a male and female, ages 65 and 70 in Clarendon County, South Carolina (zip code 29001). As I have said before, Medicare Supplement plans are all Federally regulated by the government. There is no reason for anyone to pay more for their Medicare Supplement Plan G with one carrier over another because the letter of the plan dictates the coverage, not the carrier. You are not getting any additional benefits by paying more. That’s why it is important to shop your Medicare Supplement coverage every year, and we can help you with that. You may ask, “Why do these companies charge different prices if they are all the same?” That’s a great question. Carriers have different administrative costs and they have different profit goals. There’s tons of different reasons why these big companies charge different prices. What you need to know is, just like in your Medicare book, Medicare Supplement Plan G is the same with every carrier. If you have any questions regarding Medicare, please give our office a call at 1-855-368-4717 or visit one of our pages: https://www.seniorhealthcaredirect.com/ https://www.facebook.com/MedicareBob/ https://twitter.com/MedicareBob https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy_avKva4VN0DBEgjP7I43w?view_as=subscriber

Call in to chat 661-467-2407 Marcus Mosiah Garvey Jr. was a Jamaican-born political leader, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator. He was President-General of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL). He also was President and one of the directors of the Black Star Line, a shipping and passenger line incorporated in Delaware. The Black Star Line went bankrupt and Garvey was imprisoned for mail fraud in the selling of its stock. His movement then rapidly collapsed. Prior to the 20th century, leaders such as Prince Hall, Martin Delany, Edward Wilmot Blyden, and Henry Highland Garnet advocated the involvement of the African diaspora in African affairs. Garvey was unique in advancing a philosophy to inspire a global mass movement and economic empowerment focusing on Africa known as Garveyism. Garveyism would eventually inspire others, ranging from the Nation of Islam to the Rastafari movement (which proclaim Garvey as a prophet) and the Black Power Movement of the 1960s. Garveyism intended persons of African ancestry in the diaspora to "redeem" the continent of Africa and put an end to European colonialism. His essential ideas about Africa are stated in an editorial in the Negro World entitled "African Fundamentalism", where he wrote: "Our union must know no clime, boundary, or nationality… to let us hold together under all climes and in every country.
