It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a UFO! It's an Iranian mothership! It's a radiation probe! Or maybe it's really just a plane. The wave of alleged noctural drone sightings in New Jersey has led to some wild theories about what the mysterious lights in the sky could be.Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R–N.J.) claimed that the drones were coming from an Iranian "mothership" in the Atlantic Ocean, then retracted his claim after the Pentagon denied it. (The Iranian navy does have a sort of aircraft carrier for drones—and publicly-available satellite imagery shows that it's still sitting in the Persian Gulf.) The mayor of Belleville, New Jersey, claimed the drones were part of a secret search operation for missing radioactive material, although the materials have already been recovered. Rep. Nancy Mace (R–S.C.) even asked whether it could be aliens from outer space. But there might be a simpler explanation. Gov. Phil Murphy has suggested that at least some of the sightings were just normal air traffic misidentified by over-eager drone spotters. Police documents obtained by Reason under the New Jersey Open Public Records Act back up that theory. A map of drone reports produced by the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office shows a dense concentration of sightings along the flight path of airliners leaving New York City. Dr. Toya explains that, despite medical culture often stigmatizing self-advocacy, asking is not just a negotiation skill but a life-changing habit that aligns personal and professional values.Dr. Toya sheds light on barriers such as fear of rejection, cultural conditioning, and judgment that discourage physicians from requesting better schedules, pay, or wellness accommodations. She reframes "no" as an opportunity to understand objections, gain clarity, and move closer to "yes." Her approach focuses on understanding your true desires, knowing the real reason behind your requests, and ensuring everything you ask for reflects your value and matches what matters most to you. BioDr. La Toya Luces-Sampson, affectionately known as Dr. Toya on social media, is a wife, mother, board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist, perinatal mental health specialist, and Coach. Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, she moved to the United States where she went on to earn both her Bachelor and Medical Degrees from Howard University in an accelerated 6-year BS/MD program. She completed her residency training at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia and has lived in Northern California since. After caring for pregnant and postpartum women as an OBGYN for more than a decade, she now focuses on the unique needs of physician moms who rarely feel supported as they navigate caring for their babies, a new identity, and the ongoing intensity of clinical medicine. Dr. Toya helps Physician Moms set up systems, navigate complications, advocate for themselves in both personal and professional contexts, so they can feel good about themselves, with confidence and joy. Drawing from his best-selling books (including Real Artists Don't Starve, The Art of Work, You Are a Writer) and expansive experience as an author, entrepreneur, artist and coach, Jeff "dismantles the myth that being creative is a hindrance to success by revealing how an artistic temperament is in fact a competitive advantage. For centuries, the myth of the starving artist has dominated our culture, seeping into the minds of creative people and stifling their pursuits." Richie Norton and Jeff Goins share interesting stories with each other to help people understand how to thrive in pursuing their craft and living dreams through practical, timeless strategies, principles and tactics. This is a powerful podcast around inspiration, courage and business for creatives. "Through inspiring anecdotes of successful creatives both past and present, Goins shows that living by these rules is not only doable but it's also a fulfilling way to thrive. "From graphic designers and writers to artists and business professionals, creatives already know that no one is born an artist. Goins' revolutionary rules celebrate the process of becoming an artist, a person who utilizes the imagination in fundamental ways. He reminds creatives that business and art are not mutually exclusive pursuits. In fact, success in business and in life flow from a healthy exercise of creativity. Expanding upon the groundbreaking work in his previous bestseller The Art of Work, Goins explores the tension every creative person and organization faces in an effort to blend the inspired life with a practical path to success. Being creative isn't a disadvantage for success; rather, it is a powerful tool to be harnessed."
