Former Tar Heels Harrison Ingram, Armando Bacot, and Cormac Ryan landed with teams in the NBA last week. Harrison Ingram was drafted in the second round by the San Antonio Spurs, while Bacot and Ryan signed deals with the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder, respectively. Tyler Hansbrough discusses the pro prospects for all three and explains how X-10 and 2-way contracts work. This year's version of the draft was noteworthy for it's general lack of perceived talent and the 2nd-round selection of Bronny James by the L.A. Lakers. We discuss whether that pick was warranted. Plus, we talk about how well the 76ers' lottery selection of Jared McCain will go over with its fan base and wtf is going on with Kyle Filiposwki. All that and more on our best episode yet!Brought to you by Jimmy's Famous Seafood.

North Carolina is still looking to make a frontcourt splash in the transfer portal and Illinois transfer Coleman Hawkins might just be that guy. Part of the problem right now is that Hawkins is currently in the NBA Draft. CBS' Matt Norlander suggests that if Hawkins returns to college, the Tar Heels would be in play for his services. Would Hawkins be more or a 4 or 5 for Carolina…or play some of both? Why are there misconceptions about Hawkins and his temperament? Could he be next season's version of Cormac Ryan from a fiery standpoint? What critical things does Hawkins still need to work on improving? Reports from reputable sources CBS and Field of 68 confirm that RJ Davis will return for a fifth year at North Carolina. While it's not enough yet to proclaim it from the mountaintops, it is enough to discuss what n RJ Davis return means and looks like for UNC. Seth Trimble is also back for UNC and the Tar Heels will have to figure out how to best deploy him. What is Trimble's sweet spot? Davis and Trimble will form a loaded backcourt along with Elliot Cadeau and Ian Jackson. Also – Carolina has had multiple transfers who have been that intangibles guy to hold teammates accountable – Brady Manek, Harrison Ingram, and Cormac Ryan. Who will that be next season? Last Friday, James Okonkwo announced plans to enter the transfer portal. On Tuesday, the day after the National Championship, Seth Trimble did the same. As things stand currently, those are the only two Tar Heel defections of any kind (transfer or NBA Draft). Will Coach Hubert Davis see any other players transfer out this offseason? We wait to find out. What holes are still in the roster? The biggest is the one vacated by Armando Bacot at the center position. UNC needs another big to fill out the frontcourt. Additionally, the Heels lost their starting Small Forward, Cormac Ryan. Is his replacement already on the roster, or will Coach Davis go looking to fill that void as well? North Carolina's rising junior guard Seth Trimble announced on Tuesday, April 9 that he is entering the transfer portal. This is sad news for the Tar Heels, but unfortunately not unexpected in this day and age of college athletics. Trimble is the second Tar Heel to go portaling, joining James Okonkwo. Armando Bacot, Cormac Ryan, and Paxson Wojcik were all out of eligibility. Is Trimble's decision an indication of the plans of other backcourt players such as RJ Davis or Elliot Cadeau? How does Trimble's defection affect UNC's depth? The Tar Heels currently have four available scholarships – how will Hubert Davis utilize them? The end of North Carolina's basketball season comes with an opportunity to revisit preseason bold predictions. Some go well, others…not so much. The North Carolina Tar Heels fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sweet 16 of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The North Carolina Tar Heels 2023-24 season came to a screeching half on Thursday night as Hubert Davis' squad fell 89-87 to Nate Oats and Alabama. It was a defeat that feels crushing because this team loved each other and played for each other so well. Armando Bacot and Cormac Ryan and Paxson Wojcik's careers aren't supposed to end that way. Unfortunately one of RJ Davis' worst shooting nights of the season (And his only game without a three) came at a rather undesirable time. The meeting with Caleb Love and Arizona in the Elite 8 was clearly not meant to be as both parties fall short. North Carolina's offense and defense and Alabama's offense are all rated top-16 at KenPom in adjust efficiency. The outlier? The Crimson Tide defense which ranks outside the top 100. In fact, only seven teams in the nation surrender more points per game than Nate Oats' team. How will RJ Davis, Armando Bacot and company be able to exploit that matchup? On the flip side, Alabama's offense is electric, headlined by Mark Sears. UNC's top-tier defense will need to be on their game. Rebounds and turnovers are critical statistics in this game. Carolina needs to secure every defensive rebound they possibly can. It's can't just be Bacot; Harrison Ingram, Jae'lyn Withers, Jalen Washington and others must all chip in. In transfer portal news, Belmont's Cade Tyson is an intriguing target for the Tar Heels. Could he slide right into the spot vacated by Cormac Ryan? North Carolina finally knows its opponent for the First Round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels will play Wagner out of the Northeastern Conference. The Seahawks were the six seed and raced through the NEC Tournament and were able to beat Howard in the NCAA Tournament Play-In Game in Dayton. Wagner only has seven players. While that's unfortunate, UNC must take advantage of the opportunity to run and attack. It should be a big day in particular for Armando Bacot. Once Bacot is cooking, we should expect to see RJ Davis, Harrison Ingram, Elliot Cadeau, Cormac Ryan, and the rest of the Tar Heels take off. It's also time to start devoting some brain power to the transfer portal, where the Heels will likely need to find an Armando Bacot replacement. North Carolina won the ACC regular season by going to Durham and beating Duke by five points inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Tar Heels once again beat Duke without a starring performance from RJ Davis. Rather than a negative, think of the offensive depth that shows. In this game that came in the form of Cormac Ryan. Is his performance repeatable? He might not hit six threes a game, but he can drive and attack game after game. The Tare Heels survived a Kyle Filipowski run early in the second half but responded with a veteran-level 9-1 run to take back control. Next up, the Heels are the one-seed in the ACC Tournament. If I'm not showing up heavy, why show up at all? Doing it a little different this time, barely any vinyl played until halftime of the episode. I had the thought to do something different and this is what came of it. Blasting a custom deet dooted Lord of the Rings cold open for the absolute boys one time. I got all fired up making that til 3:30 AM on Friday. At one point I just held my hands up in ecstasy at what I'd just managed to fondle around and put together. Barely even remember doing it, just looked up and it had put itself together basically. Real nice. Also Kanye's Jesus Is King album was a beautiful pickup this weekend. Sounds so good on vinyl. Full and heavy sound. Some great songs that I didn't debut as well. My Carolina boys managed to fight off the Cameron Crazies, The Duke player and the ref that looks like Keith David. North Carolina travels to Durham on Saturday to take on Duke inside Cameron Indoor Stadium to wrap up the regular season. Carolina has responded nicely to their 2-3 skid by winning five straight with just the finale left. A Tar Heel win clinches the regular season, while a Duke victory allows the Blue Devils to claim a share. In the first matchup, Duke pestered RJ Davis with size, while the Tar Heels put Cormac Ryan on Tyrese Proctor. Both defensive wrinkles were effective. Will both coaches use the same approach? Will Armando Bacot be dominant again? Can the Heels slow down Jared McCain and the Duke 3-point attack? Can Hubert Davis' club get out to a hot start on the road? North Carolina might not have been able to ask for a better script for Senior Night as Armando Bacot played his final home game at the Dean E. Smith Center, along with Cormac Ryan, Paxson Wojcik, and the rest of the seniors. Was it RJ Davis' final home game? That's yet to be determined. North Carolina put away Notre Dame convincingly, as we've been waiting for all season. They did so with defense and several extended offensive runs. Critically the Heels held leading scorer Markus Burton to just nine points on 3-11 shooting (season average: 17). The Heels, led by Harrison Ingram's 14, once again won the rebounding battle, which they've now done 19 straight times. UNC clinches at least a share of the ACC regular season championship, with the possibility of winning it outright on Saturday at Duke. Locked On Tar Heels - Daily Podcast On North Carolina Tar Heels Football & Basketball
There has been fear that North Carolina relies too heavily on RJ Davis, particularly coming off his 42-point performance vs. Miami. Simply zoom out to realize that the Tar Heels have been led in scoring by four different players in the last four games (Armando Bacot, Cormac Ryan, Davis, and Harrison Ingram). It also helps that they have a dynamic playmaker in Elliot Cadeau, who, by the way, can also call his own scoring number.North Carolina struggled down the stretch of the first half vs. NC State, but really turned things around and took a lead they wouldn't relinquish with an early second half 14-2 run. The Heels slowed down both DJs – Horne and Burns, flipped the turnover battle, and ultimately swept the season series. Locked On Tar Heels - Daily Podcast On North Carolina Tar Heels Football & Basketball
The 2023-24 North Carolina Tar Heels have multiple players who could be the dominant offensive player in any given game, RJ Davis, Cormac Ryan, Armando Bacot, Harrison Ingram, Elliot Cadeau. Should we be concerned that Davis' 42 point performance was accompanied by no other Tar Heels in double-figures? Does offensive balance have to be viewed as sharing the scoring load within each game or can it look like Cormac Ryan leading the scoring one game, Armando Bacot the next, and RJ Davis the one after that? How realistic is it that all five players on the floor could be hitting on the same day? How realistic (and catastrophic) is it for all five players on the floor to be off on the same day, particularly come March Madness. Court storming has been in the news A LOT this season. What does a coach think about them? Coach Rob answers that question for Isaac Schade. Coach Rob and Isaac both recount Monday's trip to Chapel Hill and the various special moments it held – watching the Milligan JV play in the Smith Center, interacting with people from the Locked On Tar Heels community, and more! The North Carolina Tar Heels have just three games left in the 2023-24 regular season. They have a strong record, but more to be accomplished in Armando Bacot's final year. In order to achieve those heights, what are the tweaks UNC should make down the stretch? In a change from earlier this season, one of the recent struggles is closing out games comfortably. What are some steps the Tar Heels could take to help shore up those end game moments? For the first team in at least the last 40 years, the top six Tar Heels in minutes played (RJ Davis, Bacot, Cormac Ryan, Harrison Ingram, Elliot Cadeau, and Seth Trimble) all have an assists-to-turnover ratio above 1.0. What's contributing to this and how is it helpful? Locked On Tar Heels Discord: https://discord.gg/DGhGSEPP2d Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
Tim Donnelly says UNC basketball got a much needed win on the road over UVA basketball, the first win for the Tar Heels over Virginia basketball since 2012, which should be a confidence boost for Hubert Davis & Cormac Ryan after Tony Bennett slowed down RJ Davis, Harrison Ingram, and Armando Bacot. Also, NC State basketball earned a home win over Boston College basketball.
Cormac Ryan never lacked confidence and in Saturday's performance at Virginia, his confident stroke paid big dividends for North Carolina as the Tar Heels used that hot shooting and a suffocating team defense to beat the Cavaliers, 54-44. Inside Carolina's Postgame podcast features Taylor Vippolis and Tommy Ashley breaking down the how and why it all happened and what the Heels have left on the ACC schedule to make the goal of a conference regular season championship a reality.
