Today, we're exploring oxalates, what they are, how they affect our health and how reducing them can help alleviate a variety of health issues. Oxalates are natural compounds found in many plant-based foods. They're classified as anti-nutrients because they bind to essential minerals like calcium and magnesium, making these nutrients unavailable for absorption. Additionally, oxalates can form sharp crystals that may contribute to physical discomfort and other symptoms. When the body starts eliminating excess oxalates, a process known as oxalate dumping, it can cause a range of symptoms that vary widely from person to person. Let's take a closer look at how we can manage this process to improve overall health and prevent further oxalate buildup. Adopting a low-oxalate diet is a proactive way to address the root causes of chronic symptoms, including physical discomfort and nutrient imbalances. By listening to your body and taking gradual steps, you can empower yourself to regain balance and vitality. #oxalates #nutritiontips #healthyeatingideas #naturalhealing

When Monique was 47 years old, her 2 ½ year old daughter was diagnosed with an oxalate problem. At that time, Monique had never heard the word “oxalate” before! When she then decided to eat a low oxalate diet herself to model it for her child, she quickly discovered that lower dietary oxalate didn't just help her daughter - it helped her! This led to Monique diving into learning more about oxalate through the Trying Low Oxalates support group, which was the only place to get good information at that time. She couldn't help but think: what if it was possible that she had been dealing with oxalate for decades and had never been diagnosed? And if that had happened to her, could it be happening to others? This ultimately led to a complete career change; in her 50's Monique went back to college to study nutrition. Now a nutritionist, she also brings years of previous business experience as a problem solver, in addition to a Master's degree in Library and Information Science, to her passion for helping people regain their health; she dives into the research to read and learn and connect the dots regarding how dietary oxalate could be impacting our health in ways we might never have imagined. She also eats a carnivore diet and has never felt better. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Danny: Hi Dr. Cabral, Firstly, thank you for everything you do. You have helped me really understand my own body and has equipped me with the knowledge and insight into my own health and to try to provide the best help for my family and friends. My question is regarding my 3 year old son. He has what I believe to be eczema and is quite stubborn. I have listened to previous podcasts regarding eczema and I know you have said it usually stems from a food allergy. I have tried eliminating the main food groups from his diet such as dairy, eggs, gluten and soy. It may have improved slightly but doesn't seem to ever clear up, could it also be a reaction from chlorinated tap water? Any help would be appreciated, I would also like to know what I can apply topically for temporary relief, many thanks! Danny: Hi Dr. Cabral, I hope you are well. My wife has very up and down allergies. Some days she will sneeze a few times a day like normal and other days she will be sneezing all day with a runny nose and constant sniffles. She always sneezes first thing every morning once we wake up and sniffles. She has recently completed a 14 day detox that did not fix the issue. Could this be an issue with over production of histamine or a gut based issue? Dustmites? Any advice would be much appreciated. Erika: Hi Dr Cabral, long time listener from Australia, first time writer. I am 31, have a fairly complex history of EBV, fibromyalgia, pudendal neuralgia and occipital pain. At the start of the year I started using a Novothor red light therapy bed. I started using it for 20 minutes, up to 6 days a week. The improvement in my pain and fatigue symptoms was huge and I was incredibly happy with the progress. About 2 months ago - about 5 months into using it I started developing skin sensitivity/mild burning side effects. First in my inner thighs then on my forearms. I tried decreasing the treatment time, taking longer breaks between treatment and still experience the skin sensitivity afterwards. Do you have any ideas what might have caused the change in response? What do you recommend? Thank you! Gabby: Hi Dr. Cabral, thank you so much for all your work and spreading the knowledge around the world! I am writing, as I regularly listen to your podcast, however, I still feel unsure where to start my healing from. I do not have any particular health issues, but I would like to stay healthy and fit. I am also curious what is your approach to Bioresonance therapy. I've had Vegetative Resonance Test done, which showed that I have high amounts of mercury (I used to eat lots of fish) and aluminium in my body, despite the fact that I use non-aluminium deodorant and do not drink from aluminium cans. It also showed a lot of parasites. Could you let me know then your thoughts on Bioresonance and also would you recommend first starting heavy metals detox or getting rid of parasites? Thanks a lot! Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral & team, I have completed the CBO protocol as well as the parasite protocol, gut sealing protocol, but my oxalate sensitivity still lingers. It improves when I have dairy, however I am very sensitive to dairy (due to lectin sensitivity that actually leads to inflammation. I have tried taking calcium citrate but I don't know if its working. I have also tried high oxalate veggies like broccoli but its doesnt seem to be enough. I am on a low oxalate diet but I don't want to be forever. Recently i have tried incorporating goat cheese however i react to it since the goats in my area are fed high lectin diet. And there are no A2 cows in my area or sheep. What would you recommend as an alternative? In this episode you'll hear me respond to one of our Flipping 50 members asking a question about being sore in menopause, for no reason. If you're sore, stiff, or even have a little niggle or “catch,” this is for you. If you've passed this kind of thing off for arthritis or getting old, stick around. If not you, a girlfriend or sister needs to hear this. Paulette asked: “I'm looking for suggestions about what helps with muscle stiffness and soreness unrelated to injury. I have noticed in my transition to menopause that I have much more muscle stiffness and less flexibility, despite being quite active and doing yoga several times a week. It's mostly my legs and hips...and low back...well, probably every muscle...lol. I wake up stiff and it generally improves within a few minutes of movement, but I notice it throughout the day when I bend down, or try to get down on the floor or up from there. I'm sure this is a common complaint among 50 plus women...what helps with this?” Reasons for Being Sore in Menopause Some women experience this and it can be due to a lot of things… The changes in estrogen during menopause can lead to various symptoms. Specifically, estrogen deficiency can cause a snowball of symptoms. Some of the habits we thought were good, are actually not, or not going to match the status of our hormones and their influence on muscles, bones, connective tissues, gut health, sleep, sex and every cell in our body. Over time, women are finally getting more savvy. As we find more women less willing to accept weight gain, belly fat, frequent injuries, stiffness, or in this podcast, soreness as normal processes of aging… and instead as clues we need a pivot from prior habits or beliefs, we'll all start making aging better instead of dreaded! Reduce or eliminate: Dairy Gluten / Wheat Eggs Soy Peanuts Corn Nuts (including almonds and almond flour or almond milk) Oxalate consumption can also be a problem. The body makes oxalate acid that can contribute to muscle pain or soreness as well as gut issues. (Listen to the podcast for a food high in oxalate and the flips) If you have any other leaky gut signs (gas bloating, constipation, diarrhea). But.. you don't have to have these gut signs, by the way, to have a problem with the gut or these oxalates. They're sneaky little things. Lack of Gut Issue Doesn't Mean You Won't Be Sore in Menopause Here are some suggestions for increasing your anti-inflammatory response. Add or increase: Salmon Omega 3 supplements Magnesium Vitamin D Antioxidant rich brightly colored veggies Matcha tea (a clean, tested for mold and heavy metals ceremonial grade is super high in antioxidants having one of the highest ORAC values) Habits: Epsom salt baths Longer warm up and cool down Infrared Sauna Pay a little more attention to your mobility work As a side note: Genetics play a part in whether you tend to get sore or not. There are two specific genes identified with this. Certainly with conditioning, you'll experience less soreness. But a unique workout, involving small muscles you don't use often will cause more muscle soreness than something that focuses on glutes or quadriceps that are used to a lot of activity. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Anonymous: Hi, I'm wondering about what to be careful with when purchasing contact lenses. I read in The Rain Barrel Effect that the solution for contacts contains some heavy metals, is that already the solution they come in? I buy the daily ones because they're the softest & my eyes are already so damaged from them, that I can hardly stand them (so I only wear them on very special occasions, maybe once a month). Could you also explain why that happens? Do you have any brand recommendations for daily contacts? What about eye sight surgery? Is that something you would recommend? I know quite a few people who had it done and are very happy with the results, but it still seems quite scary to me, although I know this technology has evolved significantly in the past 20 years. Thank you for your advice Jackie: Hi Dr Cabral thanks for everything you and your team do - it is life changing. I am doing Cbo protocol after heavy metals. I have high oxalate according to big 5 and reduced kidney function according to gp, how long does it take for a low oxalate diet to clinically lower oxalic acid in your experience? Working on the root cause but trying to reduce symptoms along the way. Anonymous: What are the dangers and/or side effects of taking too much Vitamin K? And what's the upper limit with dosing? Jamie (male): Thank you for all you and your team do. An amazing example of the power of why, entrepreneurship and the health industry! Is there anyway to bring forward REM sleep? Seems it doesn't really matter what time I get to sleep (easier said than done with young kids) REM seems at its best 5:30-7:30am. Issue is I get up at 5:15am. Any suggestions as I couldn't specifically find bringing forward REM sleep in the back catalogue… thank you Sheila: Hello, I'm on week 3 of CBO protocol. I just started week 3 and I started getting hives on my legs. One ingredient is bromelain in the Candida supplement. Bromelain is a “red” on my IGg food sensitivity test. Is there another product I could use instead of this one? Please advise. Thank you for your time.
