April Lynn Holt was a mother of two, living outside of Nashville, Tennessee, working hard to create a good life for herself and her family. TikTok was a huge passion of hers, and she began making content back in the pandemic and had garnered over 200,000 followers. Her content was mainly surrounding her family, her faith, and lifting other people up. She was really big on manifestations and elevating your life, so her content was a reflection of that. Her content also centered around her husband, Donovan Holt. However, in 2021 the two of them separated. It was an amicable decision, but eventually they decided to give it another go. But in July of 2023, April realized she no longer wanted to be with him. So that month she asked him for a formal divorce. 2 weeks later, her 7 year old son found her with a plastic bag duct taped to her head in their bathroom. Three days later she died. From the beginning, April's mom Jamie knew there was more to the story, and she was right. She learned that Donovan had gotten into an argument with April, strangled her, and then staged it as a suicide. Through her hard work, April is on the path towards getting justice. "I took responsibility for things that wasn't mine to take."So begins the brave stories of four men who share their personal experiences of what it was like being in relationship with a woman with Borderline Personality Disorder (or with traits of it).If you've ever been unsure about whether your partner may have traits of BPD, this is a good one to listen to. For example, ever felt like your role in your relationship is solely that of a caretaker? In one man's words, "I felt like a caregiver and she was my responsibility."Thrillingly, this episode is about more than just the intensity of being in an unhealthy relationship. It's also the story of freedom, expansion, and joy. It's how these men got out, and the brightness, love, and peace that's possible on the other side.In one man's words, a turning point was interacting with someone who treated him with kindness and respect: "It was a healing moment and I began to imagine a different life for myself."What does it take to get out of an unhealthy relationship? What is life like after you do personal growth work and heal? Sex, dating, and relationships are complex, and here we delve into all the dynamics at play from beginning to end.---Memorable quotes from this episode:“Anything I shared about myself was eventually used against me, and sometimes in cruel ways.”“My life in the relationship was like being on a rollercoaster with no safety harness.”“My self-worth started to come back, and that's what made me think, ‘What am I doing in this situation?'”“In my current relationship, I feel grounded, safe and loved. It's a world of difference.”“Now life is pretty fucking great.”---Work with usWant to go deeper than the podcast? Jason and I are ready to work with you! I want to say thank you to my client who agreed to share her QHHT session as we brought forward the higher self. Please be patient as the channeling began, even though she is miked up, the higher self came in speaking very softly. So I do recommend to listen to this segment with earphones. I promise, the volume seems to self correct itself as the higher self begins to adjust and it get's louder. I feel as though a lot of what her higher self advises can be applied to all of us. This is what I love about this work…you can listen to these sessions and receive so much knowledge that can help to make changes in your own life. One of the topics of todays session is domestic violence. Some of the content may be triggering or distressing for some individuals. My client was a victim of domestic violence for 4 years in this life today. In this life, she did get out and returned home. During her session, there was a scene where she jumped out of one life into another one where she saw herself running away from someone on a street. Someone was chasing her. There was not much more of this scene shown to her because her feeling was that he caught up to her and she did not survive. It is interesting that the higher self already knew that this was one of her questions and they wanted to show her the “why” behind the domestic violence experience today. In that life…she did not make it out. So when she came into this body and life, that was one of the lessons she wanted to conquer. It took her 4 years….but she did get out and was safe with her family. I love what the higher self says about this lesson. Ironically, her ex partner is currently in jail for killing someone. During this episode, Brooke Ward, LMFT shares the challenges she and her husband experienced before learning they were in a mixed neurotype marriage. When Brooke was diagnosed with ADHD she began to do some individual work to better understand her neurotype, however she soon realized that her husband might also benefit from better understanding his neurology. That process led him to discovering that he is AuDHD and has Sensory Processing Disorder. Brooke shares her lived experiences and the ways in which trauma and unknown neurodiversity impacted her marriage. She shares about some of the major misunderstandings that occurred and what led her to believe that the root cause may be neurological differences. In this episode we discuss lots of important issues including: Co-dependency. Feeling alone and like you are being taking advantage of. Being a creature of habit. Lack of communication or being angry and emotional. Feeling abandoned when your partner is focused on their deep interest. Sensory issues with an infant. Changes to routine after having a child. Dysregulation and emotional communication. Creating structure and routines for parenting. Change can be like working with play-doh or titanium. ADHD and impulsivity and instant gratification. Motivation, capacity and the ability to see things differently. Unmasking and changing careers. Understanding sensory sensitivities and the benefits of earbuds and comfortable clothes. Increased ability to repair after conflict. Memory loss after emotional dysregulation. Understanding your partner may not always be able to show up for your emotionally. Abuse is abuse no matter what your neurotype is. Understanding reactions that are not appropriate to the situation. Lack of awareness and education on Autism, ADHD and neurodiversity in universities that are training helping professionals. Stigma, shame, stereotypes create challenges...we need a paradigm shift! Patience, awareness, capacity, motivation, accountability, and shifting your internal views. Letting go of unrealistic expectations and hope of what you thought your relationships would be. Understanding that there will be grief. The impact of gun violence in America is well-documented as 23,000 people in the U.S. were killed by a firearm in 2021, and firearms are now considered the leading cause of death for our nation's youth. For women, the statistics are even more dire, as the presence of a gun in her home makes her 3-times more likely to be murdered. And if her abusive partner has a firearm, femicide risk increases 1,000%. More than just statistics, the lives and futures of women are increasingly at risk from the American obsession with guns coupled with its pervasive misogynistic culture.Alicia Nichols, Deputy Director of the National Domestic Violence and Firearms Resource Center of the Battered Women's Justice Project, joins the conversation to explore the link between firearms and lethality risk in intimate partner violence relationships, as well as the myriad responses to gun violence that will improve safety for women and keep guns out of the hands of violent offenders.

What does it look like not only to survive, but to thrive after trauma? --- “Banksias, if you can imagine, they've got this woody core, with those eyes dotted around the core. So those eyes contain the seeds of the banksia tree, and these seeds – these pods – open up after the ashy heat intensity of a bushfire. So we really loved this metaphor because it represents our hopes for survivors who've experienced something incredibly painful and traumatic – like a bushfire can be – without minimising the severity of that incident, but also capturing the possibility for new life and beauty and hope.” Banksia Women is a domestic violence support service affiliated with St John's Anglican Church Darlinghurst, in Sydney's eastern suburbs. It was born just as Covid was kicking off – which complicated what they do, but certainly hasn't held them back. In this episode of Life & Faith, manager Keely Oste explains what it means for women to heal and even flourish after surviving domestic abuse. She talks about the needs, courage, and triumphs of the women she works with – and Shradha, who joined Banksia Women in January 2021, opens up about how it's made such a difference to her, and to others. “The first basic thing was: I'm not alone in this. I think that was the biggest thing that helped me to not feel ashamed about the situation because it was not my fault, and I was not the only one - there were a group of women who were of different ages, of different ethnicities, of diverse backgrounds. And it still gives me goose bumps to see that so many beautiful women, so many educated women, so many middle-aged women and pretty young women are going through such things … and that gave me, like, 50 percent I was out of my pain, to see that I can get help from someone and my story can help someone else.” --- Explore: Banksia Women If you or someone you know is experience domestic violence, please know that help is available. Jennifer Roach One would have had to be quite isolated last week not to read AP's story about a father and member of the Church sexually abusing his daughters, and Church officials' reported failure to act appropriately and help the victims despite knowledge of the incidents. There is a ton of information to work through on this story, with some saying AP isn't being fair, and others wondering if the Church is more concerned about its image and protecting the institution than helping victims. We're joined this week by Jennifer Roach, MDic, LMHC. She has been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for three-and-a-half years. Previously, she was an ordained pastor in another denomination. Jennifer is a survivor of abuse and works as a licensed mental health therapist. We're thankful she's here to provide insights on a difficult topic. It's clear the Church failed to protect victims in this case. The safeguards in place didn't do their job. But that doesn't mean the Church has nefarious intent. Please sit with us as we work through this issue. Other news follows after about 45 minutes. Some corrections: In our discussion, we had noted that the information at the time made it unclear whether either bishop was explicitly told not to report anything. Since the time of recording, the AP released a video of Bishop Herrod, in his own voice, saying that the helpline told him he was not allowed to call; his hands were tied. He later says that he passed that same information along to the next bishop. It's also important to note that an Arizona grand jury took up the question of bishop culpability last year in case GJ21-0072 and did not charge either bishop with a crime. https://youtu.be/Ool6oN9P-hY Abuse in the Church Links Church's official response Michael Austin's "better" Church response A concise summary of events National Domestic Violence hotline RAINN National Sexual Assault Hotline Other Latter-day Saint News The Church finally announces who will dedicate the Washington DC Temple - President Nelson! The only person we are called to depend on with all our hearts in God. When we take our eyes off of Jesus and place them on another it can really hurt relationships, others, and ourselves. Understanding healthy dependency is important because we can refocus and do better when we learn about what we do wrong in relationships. Join me with Lidia Martinez as we dive into the different forms of dependency. We talk about cultivating and nurturing healthy relationships by having healthy boundaries with the people you love. The Shelby I know from TikTok takes no shit and speaks her truth, no matter what. But it wasn't always like this. Shelby found herself in a narcissistic abusive relationship that left her feeling isolated, worthless, and silenced. Today, she tells us her story with authenticity and vulnerability for THE VERY FIRST TIME. TW: We share stories of domestic violence and physical abuse. If you or someone you know is being abused - help is available. The National Domestic Violence hotline is 800-799-7233 OR text START to 88788. Last, but not least, this episode is sponsored by Shelby's dogs. Turns out, her doggies were also not a big fan of her abuser. Please be patient with the doggies barking from time to time.
