We hop in the time machine and drive up I-95 to 2300 South Swanson Street in Philadelphia to bear witness to 1997's ECW Barely Legal, Extreme Championship Wrestling's first Pay-Per-View. We are treated to some of the bloodiest, and most violent action we've watched on this podcast. We had to watch through our fingers a few times! But we meet young stars like Rob Van Dam, Lance Storm, Raven, and Taz. Plus there's some familiar faces like Terry Funk, Bill Alphonso, and Rick Rude. We experience one of the hottest crowds we've ever encountered, with such enthusiastic chants that we can't repeat them here. Plus, what the hell is the deal with The Sandman? Shane will give his thoughts on the ECW Television Championship and why it was held in such high regard. then, back to the matches and the grudge match of the century, Sabu vs Taz. a very real and intense rivalry between the two but where did that very real heat come from? Then, the 3 way dance to decide the #1 contender to the ECW World Title between Stevie Richards, Sandman and Raven. The winner would then go, on the same night, to face the champion, Terry Funk. This may be one of the greatest ECW shows ever and was their very first ever pay-per-view. Terry Funk takes on the Sandman and Stevie Richards in a 3-Way Dance where the winner will face Raven in the main event for the ECW Title. This was a big, crowning moment not only for Funk but also for the company as a whole. Shane Douglas and Pitbull #2 had a brutal brawl over Douglas breaking Pitbull #1's neck. Taz and Sabu has an awesome fight to culminate their blood feud, and this one ends in a big twist! There's also much more on this show. In the news, we discuss wrestlers switching companies, behind the scenes drama in ECW, major injuries in WCW, AAA trying to sue WCW, and much more! ECW PPVs are few and far between on the Network, so it is always special when one pops up. While Barely Legal is certainly historic and influential, that does not mean all is good on this card. There are more spots than a dalmatian, all the iconic ECW guys, and classic ECW shenanigans that cause the flow to go out the window. Two And A Half Marks is not affiliated with the WWE/WWF/WCW/TNA/AEW/any promotion or any of the professional wrestlers named in this podcast. The guys discuss Barely Legal, the first-ever pay-per-view from Extreme Championship Wrestling, held in April 1997.
Harry and Shane take two inaugural PPV's as they are watching the first ECW PPV and seeing how it stacks up with the future AEW's All In. Harry also tries to get Shane to play All Star Pro Wrestling (to little avail). Harry blows everyone's ear drums with his Bill Alfonzo impression. Both shows having timing issues. Wrestling Nerds. BWO. Michinoku Pro. Dream Matches. See you on the Jericho Cruise!
We couldn't chronicle 1997 without paying a visit to WWF and WCW's wild stepbrother who smokes cigarettes in the school bathroom but somehow still seems to have figured out a better way to live. ECW was here for a good time, but unfortunately not a long time, and we had a blast chronicling their first foray into PPV. This will definitely not be our last venture into the Extreme. Also, we recorded this episode two days after Conor McGregor fought Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, and the Snark Marks discuss that fight and McGregor's bizarre super heel turn starting around the 3:09:30 mark. Episode 17: We take a pit stop back in time and look at ECW's first ever pay per view. We gush over RVD's talent and Emily gets a little crush on an unlikely wrestler. We also attempt to match the Sandman in drinking speed to unfornate though unsurprising results.
Welcome, boys and girls, to another Lawcast Classic. This time it's ECW Barely Legal, the very first ECW pay-per-view. Hear all about the tortured path this promotion took to finally getting on pay-per-view, including being canceled after the Mass Transit Incident. And then the show came and they somehow managed to put on a great show, one of ECW's very best pay-per-views. We've got Taz and Sabu finally settling their grudge after over a year of build. We've got Terry Funk vs. Sandman vs. Stevie Richards with the winner getting a shot at Raven for the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. Plus The Eliminators vs. The Dudley Boyz, Rob Van Dam vs. Lance Storm, and a tremendous Six Man Tag Team Match featuring The Great Sasuke and Taka Michinoku.
The first ECW PPV and, as a result, the first ECW PPV of our 1 Year in Wrestling Podcast! Lots of great angles in this one - Terry Funk as the unlikely champion - going through 2 matches to win the belt..Douglas with all the 'grab him by the halo' heat in what leads to an absolutely awful match v Pitbull#2...RVD was off the card initially - but ends up filling in for an injured Candido v Lance Storm..and, of course, Taz v Sabu!! The Dudleys v The Eliminators is tremendous, as well, as the opener.

20 years ago Pay Per View got taken to the EXTREME when Extreme Championship Wrestling's Barely Legal took over the airwaves on April 13, 1997. Three Way Theater is kicking off a brand new review show in addition to our regular movie reviews as Mike, Lumberjake, JC, and a special guest tackle a single event from wrestling history and determine what the best match of the card was. Joining us for ECW Barely Legal is stage and screen's own "All Good" Anthony Greene as we determine what was Best In Show/Match of the Night/Five Star Classic/Four guys fucking... talking about wrestling. Like! Comment! Subscribe! Share! Listen and download RIGHT NOW on Podbean, iTunes, and on ThreeWayTheater.com!
Damien and Desmond talk wrestling. A lot. They needed a reason to bullshit regularly. Okay, another reason to bullshit regularly. So, why not go through the pay-per-views of ECW, the little wrestling promotion that could? See, Desmond is a lapsed fan whose final days were in the Attitude Era, and Damien is the fount of knowledge. That's the framework. This episode discusses the beginnings of Extreme Championship Wrestling, and, in particular, its first true PPV: 1997's Barely Legal. There's lots of critical talk about the ECW stable. Except New Jack. The producers of this podcast respect and admire Mr. Jack in every way and mean no disrespect in any way.
And we're back! And this time, we're going back to the mid 90's when ECW was just getting started in the realm of pay-per-views. To kick things off with Season 3, we're headed to Philadelphia, PA for Barely Legal, a show that barely made it to ppv. But it's one that delivers on all fronts. Follow us on Twitter (@newbloodpod) and Facebook (New Blood Rising Podcast)! We're going to the extreme!!! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/newbloodpod/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newbloodpod/support

The Lapsed Fan goes extreme for the first time this week, as the co-chairmen of TLF go hard on the very first ECW pay-per-view, 1997's Barely Legal.Hosts Jack Encarnacao and JP Sarro assess all that was ECW, including exclusive insight from a 2010 interview Jack conducted with Paul Heyman discussing the state of the pay-per-view industry at the time ECW was looking to break in, and the absurd lengths the promotion had to go to to convince the PPV industry they weren't “real”or somehow akin to UFC.It's a table-busting look at a revolutionary night, including:- Sabu's penchant for setting up high spots without immobilizing his opponent first- Joey Styles' blend of technical analysis, histrionics, and jabs at WWF and WCW- Heyman's booking methods, including more than one twist at the end of virtually every major match- Why the Taz character worked- Why ECW struggled- A look at Rob Van Dam at the point just before anyone cared much about him- Terry Funk's self-destructive peccadilloes and inspiring performance- Blue. World. Order. All that and so much more, as The Lapsed F'N Fan walks up to the line of legality with a one-of-a-kind take on ECW Barely Legal.

ECW! ECW! ECW! OH MY GOD! Ach ja: OH MY GOD!
