You and the Sunshine, Dylan...The Life and Times of a Caring Friend by Linda Sanders Amazon.com Dylan, the Golden Retriever therapy dog, has helped so many. As Sanders writes, "I considered it my responsibility to do whatever was necessary to see that he could fulfill his mission in life . . . to be of service to others." Sanders carries on Dylan's work with this book. With touching photos and heartfelt, unadorned prose, sometimes humorous, sometimes stark and uncompromising, Sanders reveals the depth and power of interspecies communication, bonding, and support. When Dylan looked at you, his gaze penetrated directly into your soul. Any posturing of the ego or cultural assumptions of human superiority evaporated into the profound comfort of sharing the essence of one's existence with another sympathetic being. In one photo, Larry, sitting in a wheelchair, cries and calls Dylan the names of every dog he used to have. Dylan returns his gaze and the caption reads, "Yes, I'm right here, we all are." We could learn much from Dylan. You and the Sunshine, Dylan is life-affirming, funny, touching, makes one cry, surprising, informative, and healing. The photos alone tell an incredible story of caring for others who need it most. There's no other choice, but to love this book that makes you smile between some tears. With deep psychological insight and inspired prose, Sanders breathes new life into Dylan's legacy. Dylan's Veterinarian, Anne Rylestone, DVM, PhD About the Author Linda Sanders recently retired after working for 50 years in demanding private and public sector management positions. Although she succeeded in finding time for creative pursuits of music and theater, as well as carrying out her personal mission to ease people's suffering in any small way she could, it was only after she retired that she found the time to write her first musical comedy, "Living the Island Life" and her first book, "You and the Sunshine, Dylan...".

Recorded on board the Flock to Marion Cruise, I had the incredible opportunity to speak with two field researchers, Danielle Keys and Leandri de Beer — women who've spent months living and working on Marion Island, one of the most remote and wild places on Earth. They share what life is like on the island, from preparing for a 13-month stay to navigating extreme weather, and the highs and lows of field research in such an isolated environment. But more than that, they offer an honest and heartbreaking look at the devastating impact invasive mice are having on Marion's seabirds — and why this matters.Their first-hand experiences bring to life the urgent need for the Mouse-Free Marion Project, one of the most important island restoration projects in the world today. This is a cause that needs your support — not just for the birds, but for the sake of preserving one of the last truly wild places for future generations.Visit our online store to get your birding related merchandise at great prices https://www.thebirdinglife.com/online-storeIntro and outro music by Tony ZA https://soundcloud.com/tonyofficialzaLinks from show:Visit the Mouse-Free Marion Website - https://mousefreemarion.org/

President Trump's announcement of sweeping new tariffs on goods entering the United States from around the world has caused chaos in international markets, and producers have been trying to work out what it'll mean for them. The UK faces tariffs of 10% on all exports to the States. The US is the third largest export market for UK farmers after Ireland and France, according to the most recent DEFRA figures. On average, we sell £68 million worth of cheese, £23 million worth of pork and around £3 million worth of beef to the States every year. Salmon is another major food export. All week we've been visiting islands and hearing about the advantages and challenges of living in some of the UK's most beautiful places. A survey by the Young Islanders Network found the biggest concern for young people in Scotland's islands, is housing – or a lack of it. We speak to people about some of the problems they've faced - and some of the solutions. For communities on the Isle of Lewis off the west coast of Scotland. ferries are essential - and for crofters who have livestock, the ferry service is a vital part of their farming business. However getting animals on and off the island by boat isn't always predictable. In Guernsey, dairy farmers have welcomed a decision to increase the support they receive from the island's government.Firefighters are warning of the 'extreme risk' of wildfires in Scotland. The fire service has issued its third warning this year after fires in hills near Glasgow and in Aberdeenshire. It says after a spell of warm weather there is plenty of dry vegetation which can act as fuel for fires, and is urging people not to light fires outside this week.Presenter = Charlotte Smith Producer = Rebecca Rooney

This Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD), January 27th, marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp complex. The theme this year is 'For a Better Future', with organisers saying it's an opportunity for people to come together, learn both from and about the past, and take actions to make a better future for all. In this special Island Life, we take the time to pause and remember them. We hear from holocaust survivors, and Siobhán Fletcher speaks to the Deputy Director and Head of Research at London's Wiener Holocaust Library, Dr Christine Schmidt.

When it re-opened after the time of Covid, and Island-wide church closures, the Promenade Methodist Church in Douglas formed a Working Party of church members, to forensically examine all aspects of church life - its purpose, its finances and most importantly its future - they asked some searching questions, and even considered whether the best stewardship would be to sell the site, re-invest the proceeds in other Methodist church ministries, and form a new worshipping community elsewhere. But after much research, talking and listening it was agreed that the church on the Prom should remain - a beacon of hope - its illuminated cross visible from the ferries coming into Douglas harbour - but its outreach should now be re-shaped to meet the needs of today's local community. And so The Prom Space was born - same church - but with a new purpose! And on today's programme, two members of that Working Party - Stephanie Gray and Amanda Walker - talk about the past, the present and the future - at The Prom Space! There's also a mention of Holocaust Memorial Day on 28th January, commemorated by a special programme here on Manx Radio as part of our Island Life series of programmes, presented by Siobhan Fletcher at 5:30pm on 28/1/25 and available afterwards as a podcast.

Robert Winfree, Mark Radulich, Zachary Strobel and Chris Owen present their The Wild Robot 2024 Movie Review! The Wild Robot is a 2024 American animated science fiction survival film based on the book series of the same name by Peter Brown, produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures. The film was written and directed by Chris Sanders, produced by Jeff Hermann, and executive-produced by Sanders's longtime collaborative partner Dean DeBlois. It stars the voices of Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Catherine O'Hara, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames. In the film, Roz (Nyong'o), a robot shipwrecked on an uninhabited island, must adapt to her surroundings, build relationships with the local wildlife, and become the adoptive mother of an orphaned goose.Sanders first encountered the original The Wild Robot book through his daughter and years later was offered an opportunity to direct a film adaptation at DreamWorks. The film uses a hand-painted aesthetic, inspired by classic Disney animated films and the works of Hayao Miyazaki. It would be the final film to be animated entirely in-house at DreamWorks, as the studio would begin relying heavily on outside vendors after 2024. Kris Bowers composed the film's score, marking his first score for an animated film. The Wild Robot premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2024, and was theatrically released in the United States on September 27, 2024. The film received critical acclaim and has grossed $54 million against a $78 million budget.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

This is the final story of my five-week stay in Malaysia. In the fifth week, I went to a small island called Tioman Island and went diving. Compared to the bustling city of Kuala Lumpur, life in the village on the island was simple, and the people were friendly and warm. It was a very quiet and comfortable place. I also had many wonderful encounters, and it was the week where I interacted with the most people and had the most valuable experiences during my five weeks. It's a beautiful island that I definitely want to return to next year. The script is available here: https://www.makiko-japanese.com/ I will update this episode on Youtube as soon as possible!! Strap in, folks! We're taking a wild ride from the sunny shores of Nassau to the frosty plains of North Dakota with none other than Sheldon King, the Territory Sales Manager at Mattress Firm North Dakota. This isn't just a story of selling beds—it's a masterclass in embracing challenges, finding purpose in every corner of life, and speaking life into every moment. Sheldon King, originally hailing from the Bahamas, shares his incredible journey—from falling in love (with his wife Bailey and North Dakota's unique culture) to managing ten thriving mattress stores across the state. Sheldon brings his rich tapestry of experiences, from track and field at Dickinson State University to navigating the ups and downs of sales, all while wrangling cattle on horseback (well, sometimes from a Kubota). His path to success in the mattress industry wasn't just about selling products; it involved a significant transition from a spec-heavy, product-focused approach to a more effective, story-driven, customer-centered strategy. Along the way, Sheldon has gleaned invaluable leadership lessons from his mentors, shaping a management style that emphasizes building relationships, understanding customer needs, and leading with empathy—wisdom that has propelled his career to new heights. Key Takeaways: Speak Life into Every Challenge: Sheldon's philosophy is simple but profound—choose positivity, and you'll attract success. Fail Fast, Learn Faster: Whether it's selling mattresses or wrangling cattle, Sheldon believes in the power of quick failures to fuel rapid growth. Building Relationships: It's not just about the sale; it's about building trust, solving problems, and ultimately changing lives. From Skeptic to Success: Sheldon recounts his initial skepticism about the mattress industry and how a single, heartfelt customer interaction changed everything. If you're not having fun, you're not doing it right. Tune in to hear how Sheldon keeps it light while crushing it in the mattress game.

In our first episode, Mark Baratto speaks with Nadene Grossman Orr who handles all of the planning for Fantasy Fest, the Annual Key West Songwriters Festival, and many more events through her company We've Got The Keys. We go deep into why she moved to Key West and what she loves about living and working here, and some of her favorite spots in town to eat drink and be merry. MORE ON NADENE Nadene arrived in Key West Florida in 1991 just after Graduation from SUNY Geneseo. Looking back on her introduction to Island Life – she established a strong foundation with the best Key West jobs … Cocktail Server, Crew on the Catamarans, and Concierge! The 3 C's! She learned the Island inside and out and made lasting friendships that grew into the professional relationships she has today with so many local business owners and industry professionals. So in love with the Island Lifestyle - Nadene turned her passion into Business in 2004 - establishing We've Got the Keys - Wedding & Event Planners for the Florida Keys. We Coordinated nearly 800 Destination Weddings up until December 2015 when we changed our focus to Corporate Events, Destination Management and Producing City-Wide Festivals & Events. With an eye for detail, Nadene's focus is on designing creative Incentive Travel programs for our corporate clients, introducing visitors to uniquely Key West experiences, customized tours, one of a kind adventures and culinary delights – Nadene & her Team challenge themselves daily to delight, impress and inspire our guests! Nadene is thrilled to be a producer for the Annual Key West Songwriters Festival – founded in 1994 - this event is the largest of its kind - bringing more than 175 Performing Singer-Songwriters to Key West each year to perform their original music on Key West's intimate stages - including beaches, bars, theaters and boats! One of the founding producers of the Annual Key West Film Festival, Nadene and her team at We've got the Keys helped to establish this new festival for Key West – founded in 2012 we worked with the Film Festival for its first Three Years. With a deep sense of Community involvement – Supporting local events and non-profit organizations over the years has been an integral part of our work. In November 2015 Nadene proudly accepted the role of Event Director for AIDS Help Inc. – coordinating their annual local events, including Taste of Key West, Vintners Dinner, Tree of Hope, & The Coronation for King & Queen of Fantasy Fest. January 2017 Nadene was selected to become the new Director of FANTASY FEST! The We've got the Keys Team took on their Biggest EVENT to date! A creation of both me and my ex-wife). His personality had an incredible, calming influence on me. His personality rubbed off on me, and Boo-ah is a deeply kind, generous, and deeply thoughtful, mindful character. Effect on Emotions Being aware that you can't change something, and learning to accept it reduces massively, frustration for me. So one thing that I got out of my experience in Mauritius, and my depression, was that frustration in my life reduced significantly afterward. Because I could accept that things move at speed, they move out. If I can't change that speed, then I need to accept that speed is something I don't appreciate or don't want in my life, or happening. If I can't change it, I need to accept it. And that reduces stress and reduces frustration. And it's been life-changing. Thoughts on Breathing The only time I ever focus on my own breathing is when I'm singing, and what I've learned from singing is that I got quite powerful lungs, so I can actually get a lot of air in and sing quite a lot of time without taking another breath. So one of the things I do when I'm singing, I'm playing with double bass, is learn to breathe incredibly deeply, and that may be added to the pleasure of playing the music because I would imagine I'm getting huge hits of oxygen every time I do that. And it's more along the lines of manipulation. But manipulation is a kind of bullying. And it's psychologically very violent. It seems like normal behavior, and what I also know is it's a normal relationship, but I feel bullied. And if I am mindful of the fact that I don't want to do what they're pushing me to do, and can just say, well, actually, no, this is what I need, this is what I want. I would be much better off. Welcome to another episode in my Friendship Stories series. The childhood that my guest Kammy is going to describe in this conversation is unlike any I've ever heard. She grew up on a remote island just two square miles in size, without much contact with the rest of the world. Looking back, Kammy can see that the friendships from this time in her life shaped her relationships to come, and the bond she shares with other children from the island is unrivaled.  This is a fascinating conversation so different from the rest of our Friendship Stories.  * The Friendship Stories series came from the dozens of interviews I conducted while writing my new book The Life Council: 10 Friends Every Woman Needs.
