This week we ventured back to 1984 to cover "Fatal Games." It's the story of a group of athletes at Falcon Athletic Academy. They're training hard for the Nationals competition with hopes to make it to the Olympics. But someone is stalking the athletes killing them one by one using a javelin as their weapon of choice. I won't spoil anything here, but this movie ends up having some very relevant topics currently in discussion in today's sports world. Hello Horror Heads! We were supposed to take this week off but unfortunately for all of you we are here and to celebrate the Olympics we are doing "Fatal Games," the olympic horror movie with a javelin killer and gratuitous nudity, also probably the only Olympic themed horror movie. Back after a three-week sabbatical, with what is probably the best podcast we've recorded. There's a little bit of catching up to do in this one. We've got some talk about getaways to #Wisconsin and the #RockyMountain and bar/restaurant experiences on the road. FYI, Brandon does not "play fast and loose" with the rules of golf as Steve says. He counts his score the way he's supposed to, otherwise how would he spend four hours outside irritating himself? Fatal Games: Olympic hopefuls prepare for a national tournament with hopes of qualifying for #TeamUSA. A mysterious figure starts killing them one-by-one. Why? You won't find out until minute 86 of this 88-minute smorgasbord of man-butts and lady-mullets. Surf Nazis Must Die final grade: Steve This movie is horrible, but not the worst. Having a trans homicidal maniac makes this movie woke. Not even the nudity can make this one watchable. 1/5 Brandon Characters not worth caring about. Some of the important things that make a movie good are missing, like the bad guy's backstory not appearing until the movie was over. The East German Judge gives this one a 1,2/5 Cocktail of the Week: French 75 1 oz Gin 1/2 oz Fresh-Squeezed Lemon Juice 1/2 oz Simple Syrup Champagne/Prosecco/Sparking Wine/Bubbles of Your Choice Combine non-bubbly ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake to combine. Strain into a champagne flute. Top with bubbly. Garnish with a twist of lemon. Cocktail Grade: A classic cocktail for a reason. Refreshing, easy-to-drink. You can dial down the simple syrup if you're using a sweeter/dolce/demi-sec sparkling ingredient. Light the torch, hit the track… Olympics fever has arrived at Kill By Kill!! And what better way to celebrate the gold standard in human achievement happening in Paris than to review one of the dumbest and repetitive slashers we've ever encountered from the good old USA - 1984's FATAL GAMES!! We're training to reach the top by discussing how this movie fails at almost every turn: bland characters, dingy settings, partially clothed showers, sinks full of dirty dishes, completely unclothed chase sequences, Oscar-winning performers, performance-enhancing drugs that decrease everyone's onscreen performance, and that's before we get to the prerequisite lockers full of corpses!! All this, plus a surprising connection to Body Double, the return of The Breather, and for the first, and hopefully only time, we have a primarily javelin-based edition of Choose Your Own Deathventure!! This episode won't make the podium, but this episode might! Watch Fatal Games on Shudder right now!! Part of the BLEAV Network. Get even more episodes exclusively on Patreon! Andy takes a look at an obscure 80s slasher, Fatal Games.
This week on the podcast, an atypical 80s slasher: Fatal Games. In advance of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, we turn our attention to sports-related horror on the show. This shoestring effort dials back the gore, and dials up the eye candy. It's a spirited effort that benefits from strong performances and notable character actors like Sally Kirkland (The Sting) in lead roles. So, subscribe, check out the discussion of Fata Games and watch this not exactly podium-worthy entry into the 80s horror milieu.
This week Brian and Anthony watch the 1984 VHS classic, Fatal Games. This movie is directed by Michael Elliot and stars Sally Kirkland, Lynn Banashek and Sean Masterson. Enjoy the strict adherence to proper javelin form and the many shower scenes. The movie starts at 32:35 into the episode and the mid movie break is 39:39 in the movie. Today on the 5: One of the staples of the slasher trend in the 80s was the "themed" slasher film. One of the many entries of this type was 1984's Fatal Games. This one uses potential Olympic athletes as the potential victims, but it really didn't take advantage of the idea.

It's Django Nudo and Snot Peddler this week, as Smutty battles a non-Covid cold. Exciting Cultpix events in Stockholm around this weekend. First there is the book launch today (27 August) in Stockholm of "Frigjorda Tider", the book that blows the lid on sex and pornogrpahy in Sweden during the 1960s and 1970s. Yes, Sweden had a 'sexy' reputation, but in some way it went much further than anyone suspected. This book uncovers those sins. Then on Monday 30 August we kick off the inaugural double bill screening at Bio Aspen, with "Christina - Swedish Nymph" (1972) and "The Lustful Vicar" (1970), both of them beautifully restored by the Swedish Film Institute and shown for the first time in this way on the big screen. But if you don't live in Stockholm, fear not, we will be bringing these films to cinemas in other cities and other countries too. We review the crop of new films, including slasher-with-cool-score "Fatal Games" (1984), Texan time travel indie "The Yesterday Machine" (1965), Ida Lupino's noir masterpiece "The Hitch-Hiker " (1953), and the strange Lynchian-Tetsuo Swedish horror short "Spik-bebis" (1987).The big topic this week is secret agent comedy TV show "Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp" (1971). It is James Bond/Man from U.N.C.L.E./Get Smart/Mission Impossible crossed with The Monkees, with all parts played by chimps and dubbed by humans. We discussed how this amazing piece of television history ever got made, who composed the music how it could come back today and play lots of clips from the great soundtrack with the Evolution Revolution band and the secret agent playlist. Suaver than Daniel Craig, funnier than Roger Moore, hairier than Sean Connery, you will not want to miss the adventures of Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp.
As a group of teens trains for the upcoming Olympics, an insane murderer begins to inventively pick them off. Bee & Ryan look into this low budget slasher, full of confusing plot lines and full frontal nudity to figure out just how well it stacks against other slashers.Plus in our pop culture check-in we discuss the new twilight book Midnight Sun, Amazon Prime's Get Duked, 90's horror including Body Bags & Stir of Echoes, Dave Franco's directorial debut The Rental, and more!

We hope you did all your calisthenics. Your lungs. Your squat thrusts. Because this week we are talking about the 1984 athletic slasher FATAL GAMES. This movie kind of reminds us of another slasher. But, we just can't put our finger on it. Oh well. I'm sure they are nothing alike. Anyway, we also talk about some bands we saw and some bands worth checking out. Is winning worth killing for? I mean; probably. Tune in to find out if this movie is worth killing for.

Jerry Goldsmith vs. John Williams. Science Fiction fans tend to be a polarized bunch when it comes to the two biggest franchises: Star Trek and Star Wars. Both have huge fan followings and both have had an enormous impact on pop culture. While Star Trek has featured many different composers, the legendary Jerry Goldsmith is responsible in large part for the film scores. Meanwhile, to date, all of the Star Wars films have been composed by John Williams. Both of these composers are outstanding, but when the fan debate turns to these two men, the question often asked is "Who is a better composer: Jerry Goldsmith or John Williams?" In this episode of Melodic Treks, host Brandon-Shea Mutala is joined by Jason Cullimore, Suzanne Williamson, and Davis Grayson to determine—in game-show style—which best conveys the desired feelings in their music. We take a look at nine different categories of film scoring and rate them. Who will win? Listen and find out! Chapters Intro (00:00:00) Jason Cullimore (00:01:17) "The Sparrow and the Hawk" (J. Despite having its peak in the 50's and 60's, the drive-in movie theatre will be forever ingrained into history. Where else can you spend a summer night watching two movies, stuffing your face full of popcorn and hot dogs, hanging out with buddies, and (hopefully) making out in the backseat of your car? In the spirit of this bygone cinema-going experience we've come up with lists of movies we'd love to see paired up and on a giant outdoor screen while the speaker hooked up to our car window gives off the crackly sounds of tinny gunfire and explosions. First off we catch you up with what we've been watching as Chris takes a big journey back to the 80's with the likes of the javelin killing slasher flick Fatal Games and Flashdance while Josh continues his path towards depravity with I Spit on Your Grave 2 as well as discovering one of his favourite vampire movies of all-time. Plus much more! Thanks for listening! Be sure to head to iTunes to subscribe and drop us a five star rating/review - every little bit helps! Links to all our web stuff at www.gbwpodcast.com
This week Jim Wallace and I look at the 1984 slasher film (can one slash with a javelin?) set at a gymnastic and athletics college, Fatal Games. A javelin wielding killer is picking off students one by one, a doctor is juicing these kids at the hope of securing the Americans the gold at the olympics, there are lesbians, red herrings a-plenty, rather a lot of nudity and at least one utterly pointless birthday.Find out what we thought, ENJOY!Support the After Movie Diner over at www.Patreon.com/aftermoviedinerVisit us on the web at www.aftermoviediner.com
Brittany's selection this week was the 1984 track and field slasher Fatal Games! We always thought javelins looked dangerous and this movie proves it.
