This Week on America's Podcast – we're heading into the desert with the album that made U2 a household name: The Joshua Tree. Joining us for this sonic pilgrimage are Travis Perrotta and Andy Rodriguez to help decide—does this album “Bullet the Blue Sky” or make you want to “Exit” because you “Still Haven't Found What You're Looking For”? No spoilers—but Bono might be lurking in your conscience. Tracks of the Week: Jerry picks Giant's “I'll See You In My Dreams” – pure 80s power-ballad magic, Aqua Net sold separately. Andy throws down “Rock Forever” by Judas Priest – because some priests don't preach, they shred. Mooger chills things out with “Don't Dream It's Over” by Crowded House – a song so smooth it should come with a hammock. Travis goes full Zappa with “My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama” – rock, rebellion, and a guitar with unresolved issues. And we wrap it all up with Marc's pick: Sammy Hagar's “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight” – because who doesn't love a dramatic mic drop? Until next week, go where the streets have no name, be kind, and as always—be a good human. #AmericasPodcast #U2 #TheJoshuaTree #StillHaventFound #PodcastVibes #RockTalk #ZappaZone #CrowdedHouseFeels #JudasPriest #SammyHagar #EncoreThankYouGoodnight #BeAGoodHuman

In this lively intro to The Rhythm Section Podcast, Derrick and Jeff recap a night to remember—Jeff and Steve Owen's birthday bash at Neil's Music Room on Friday, April 11th. With Generation-X bringing the house down (and one unforgettable version of Iris), the guys share laughs, memories, and a hilarious moment from the performance that's not to be missed. Plus, they introduce a brand-new character to the show: the sweet, sassy, and slightly over-the-top Lil' Sweet. For the feature interview, hosts Derrick and Jeff sit down with the one and only Johnny “Hellraiser” Lamb—drummer for Aquanet, Chasing Angels, and StoneRowe. Johnny shares how he first linked up with the popular '80s tribute band Aquanet, dives into the story behind his powerful new project Chasing Angels, and reflects on his emotional performance at Pete Mendillo's Celebration of Life. They also take a trip down memory lane with stories from Johnny's early days in Dover Crossing, his decades-long career in the U.S. Air Force, and his longtime friendship with the legendary Mad Drummer. From hair metal to heartfelt moments, this episode hits all the right beats.   StoneRowe Band https://open.spotify.com/artist/7wdohfmDQRno324HkPrOLx?si=9-O0l6MaRoyfX7TL6YbaPw   TIP BUCKET If you find it in your heart to donate to the cause and help fuel the podcast you can do so through our new Venmo and CashApp. Your support is greatly appreciated and will help shine a brighter spotlight on the great Memphis Music Community. Show Notes Episodes 482: Save the Last Dance For Me This week host Dave Bledsoe was criminal trespassed from Arbor Terrace Teaneck for slow grinding with  Mrs. Maria Santamarino during the retirement village's Valentine's Dance. (Maria was into it!) On the show this week we remember the “fun” of high school dances in the 80's, so grab your ruffles, soak yourself in Aquanet and let's get ready to slow dance to Bon Jovi! Along the way we discover that Dave was asked out on a date by a girl, once.(We don't believe it either) Then we dive right into a quick history of “Prom” before we hit the dance floor.  We cover all the big dances, Homecoming (Football prom), the Snow Ball (a euphemism Dave keeps trying to make a thing), Sade Hawkins (nerd prom) and finally Senior Prom. (Wedding practice) Relive the memories with a tick-tock countdown the Best Night Of Your Life ™. (Or, if you are like Dave, and never went to prom tell you what all the cool kids did that night.)  Our Sponsor this week is The King of the Prom, who wonders if he can interest  you in some life insurance.  We open with a disastrous prom date and close with Selina Joycee who would like to make a reservation on your dance card. Yes, the 80's, renown for it's C-List part time carnies and birth place of all kinks known to men & women, AND ONLY MEN & WOMEN. The 80's... come and sit a spell. Everyone get out your Aqua Net hair spray and G.I. Joe lunchboxes because it is time to hop in the Hot Tub Time Machine and go back to the 80s!  In this, the 80th episode of the Camerosity Podcast, we revisit the decade where Michael Jackson and Madonna reigned supreme, taking a look at everyone's favorite cameras from that decade.  The Nikon F3, Minolta Maxxum 7000, Olympus XA2, the Minox 35 series, Contax RTS II, and many, many more. Joining Anthony, Paul, Theo, and Mike on this show are returning callers AJ Gentile, Mark Faulkner, Miles Libak, Mina Saleeb, Pat Casey, Patrick Rapps, Will Pinkham, and first time caller Christopher Wells. Each person shares stories of the cameras they used during the 1980s, but Patrick Rapps didn't get the message about the 20th century and went back all the way to 1889 with his beautiful and fully functioning Kodak No.2 String Set.  This camera was the follow-up to the original 1888 Kodak and shares many of the same design features, including that camera's distinct round film gate! We get into a little bit of history of early point and shoot cameras and how their autofocus systems work and why so many of these early cameras consistently have such high image quality.  We discuss the history and merits of Kodak's Disc film cameras and two features of those cameras that influenced cameras that would come later.  We revisit the era of electronic still video cameras like the Canon Xap Shop and the original Sony Mavica.  We talk about focusing auto focus cameras and reflect back on how focus screens work from the Rick Oleson episode.  Theo shares with us a strange 3 lens 110 film camera, and finally, we answer a question asked in the Camerosity Facebook page about a recommendation of a compact SLR for a 10 year old. As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you! Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show. We LOVE people who are into shooting or collecting cameras, no matter how long you've been doing it, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, the Camerosity Discord server, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance.   Our next episode will be Episode 81 and we are planning on tackling the complex and wonderful world of Zeiss-Ikon.  Since the recording of Episode 80 however, some scheduling conflicts have come up which may require us to pivot this show and postpone it.  We won't know until we get closer to the show date, so if Episode 81 comes and it is not about Zeiss, we didn't forget, we just had to change at the last minute.  As of right now however, it is still on.  We will record Episode 81 on Monday, November 11th at 7pm Central Standard Time and 8pm Eastern Standard Time. Geoff, Dave, and Russ are busting out their finest Members Only jackets to bring you a gnarly selection of tunes that'll have you reaching for your Aqua Net. We'll be walking on sunshine with Katrina & the Waves, spinning right round (baby, right round) with Dead or Alive, and don't worry - we promise not to make you listen to "Don't Worry, Be Happy" on repeat like your local radio station did back in '88. But wait, there's more! We're blasting off with Peter Schilling's "Major Tom," proving that space was the place in the 80s. And of course, what would a trip back to the 80s be without doing the Safety Dance with Men Without Hats? As if that weren't enough to overload your Walkman, the guys dive into a totally mental discussion about the lyrics of some classic songs that'll have you saying, "Gag me with a spoon!" Are you like me and just a little too young to have experienced firsthand some of the retro pop culture you've grown to love? Then I've got five films to help take you back to the 70s and 80s, that weren't made during that time. These films are like me—not quite retro. First, we have It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019), which deliver a one-two punch of horror and nostalgia. This film adaptation of Stephen King's It moves the setting up to the late 1980s and mid-2010s, modernizing the original story just a bit, but still leaning into the nostalgia of childhood, friendship, and conquering childhood trauma. Next up is 2011's Super 8, written and directed by J. J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg. Set in 1979, a group of kids while making a Super 8 movie accidentally record a train crash and get footage that they shouldn't have seen. It's a wonderful send-up of horror and sci-fi directors, like Spielberg, George Romero, John Carpenter, and Alfred Hitchcock, while also being a poignant exploration of grief. If you need something to lighten the mood after the scariness of the It films and Super 8, you'll enjoy 1998's The Wedding Singer! The tagline for the film is “He's going to party like it's 1985!” and boy, does he ever. Wonderfully silly and surprisingly sincere and romantic, The Wedding Singer is a lot of fun from start to finish. Grab your Aqua Net and enjoy this fun rom-com with the person who wants to grow old with you. Our final selection for our Not Quite Retro movie night is the 2021 Paul Thomas Anderson film, Licorice Pizza. While met with some initial controversy, this is a multi-award nominated and winning film from the writer and director that brought you Magnolia and Boogie Nights. Set in 1973, Licorice Pizza watches our leads, Alana Kane (played by Alana Haim) and Gary Valentine (played by Cooper Hoffman), grow up, figure out life, and fall in love. It's a mythology of early 70s San Fernando Valley legends with an amazing soundtrack, a cast stacked with phenomenal actors, and the band HAIM, as well as their parents. Make a martini, or maybe just grab two cokes, and enjoy the feel-good comedy that is Licorice Pizza. We hope our selections this week take you back to a time in history that you may or may not have experienced firsthand. If you did, do these films accurately capture that time period? Which films do you think capture it best? Thanks for joining us on this trip back to the 70s and 80s in this episode of the Video Store Podcast. Back after a three-week sabbatical, with what is probably the best podcast we've recorded. There's a little bit of catching up to do in this one. We've got some talk about getaways to #Wisconsin and the #RockyMountain and bar/restaurant experiences on the road. FYI, Brandon does not "play fast and loose" with the rules of golf as Steve says. He counts his score the way he's supposed to, otherwise how would he spend four hours outside irritating himself? Fatal Games: Olympic hopefuls prepare for a national tournament with hopes of qualifying for #TeamUSA. A mysterious figure starts killing them one-by-one. Why? You won't find out until minute 86 of this 88-minute smorgasbord of man-butts and lady-mullets. Surf Nazis Must Die final grade: Steve This movie is horrible, but not the worst. Having a trans homicidal maniac makes this movie woke. Not even the nudity can make this one watchable. 1/5 Brandon Characters not worth caring about. Some of the important things that make a movie good are missing, like the bad guy's backstory not appearing until the movie was over. Close your eyes and picture the 1980s. Well, don't close them because you have to keep reading. What do you see and hear? Aquanet? Bangs? A magazine hidden under a teenage boy's bed? High-pitched male vocals? Nunchucks? Playboy Playmates...I mean Angels...I mean highly-skilled operatives of "The Agency" take down a presumably-notorious Kingpin. It's not paradise all the time. Unfortunately, investigation isn't LETHAL's strong suit, so we never really have any dots connected. But this movie is jam-packed with what The Agency does specialize in, explosions, gun fights, bikinis and boobs. Hard Ticket Final Grades Steve: Mid-Tier, middle of the road, perfectly average. Excellent soundtrack. Watchable. 50% Brandon found a certain charm in the 1980s nostalgia and he has a soft spot for blow-up dolls that blow up and a toilet snake that can only be killed by a bazooka round to the face. Formidable Opponents

On this episode of Formidable Opponents we take you back to a simpler time, a time where a show choir mega stars got together for a good cause,  a time when going out to eat at your local Pizza Hut was considered fine dining, a time where music told the the decade's story and those storytellers may have utilized an excessive amount of Aqua Net (pink).  Yes, we're revisiting the 80s this week and although we have a deep appreciation for synthesizers, bright colors and big hair, we do have a few things to say about some bands that we feel may have received more credit than they should have.  That's not to say we don't care for them; after all, the eclectic sounds and the variety of over-the-top (Not the Sylvester Stallone movie) expression is what made the 80s such an important time for music.  This week Formidable Opponents debates and discusses "Most Overrated 80s Band!" Support the showReach out to us and follow us:formidableopponents@gmail.com (Contact us)https://formidableopponents.buzzsprout.com/ (Website)@Fopponents (Twitter)formidable_opponents (Instagram)FormidableOpponents (Facebook)@formidableopponents (Tik Tok)https://www.buymeacoffee.com/foropponents (Show us some love)Merchandisehttps://formidableopponents.creator-spring.com/Cover art by Creative Little Pillhttps://www.instagram.com/creativelittlepill/https://creative-little-pill.creator-spring.com/Magic Mindhttps://www.magicmind.com/opponents

Picture it: Suffolk, England, December 1980. The Cold War was colder than your ex's heart, and disco was hanging on for dear life. Our story unfolds in the midst of RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge, two bases with more secrets than a politician's email account.

Broadcasts – Christian Working Woman

Presented by Lisa Bishop As we get started in talking about grace, I want to take you back to a hot summer day in the mid-80's as I was entering my mid-teen years. I still get flashbacks from my spiral permed hair that blew away all height restrictions with the backcombing and amount of Aqua Net hairspray I used, but I digress. On this particular summer day, I was in the driveway of my childhood home, excited to wash my dad's 1979 Oldsmobile. Now I know that may sound weird, actually enjoying washing a car, but for a little bit of backstory, my dad loved cars. Growing up, I would see him take meticulous care of them by washing and waxing them on a pretty regular basis. A clean car made my dad really happy. So, I was eager to get out my bucket of soapy water and pull out the long green garden hose to make the boxy, brown, five-seater, top-of-the-line car shine. I didn't have my driver's license yet and had never driven, let alone been behind the wheel of a car. So, my dad pulled the car out of the garage and parked it in the driveway for me to wash while he did some gardening in the backyard. There I was, lathering up my dad's Oldsmobile, rinsing it off, and using old bath towels to dry it until it glimmered. I was so proud and even happier to know this was something that would mean a lot to my dad. To impress my dad a bit more, I thought it would be cool if I not only washed the car, but I parked it all by myself in the garage. Now mind you, on the other side of the garage was my dad's prized possession, a 1969 Firebird convertible. Gold, with a white top, in mint condition, and perfectly polished. You can see where this story is heading. I got behind the wheel of this brown boat of a car, aiming to park it in the garage when instead, I nervously drove it into the left side of the garage door. In a panic, my foot hit the gas, and I swerved to the right. I had managed not only to dent the right side of the car, but also to side swipe my dad's precious convertible. I know you are probably wondering, “What were you thinking?” Well evidently, I was not thinking clearly. At that point, I was completely freaked out and scared to death to tell my dad what had happened. I was worried he would be really mad at me. In my hysteria, I found my mom. When—in the midst of hyperventilating—I told her what had happened, she said, “Don't worry! Everything will be just fine.” And we proceeded to walk to the backyard together to tell my dad. When I told him what happened I will never forget what he said. “I love you, Lisa. It's just a car. We can get it fixed. You are more important to me than a car.” In that moment I expected to get what I deserved—a tongue lashing for my carelessness and a life sentence to my bedroom. But that's not what I received at all. Instead, I was the recipient of something powerful. The powerful and impactful gift of grace. The grace my dad extended to me that day did something to my mind and heart that forever left an impression. It taught me, amongst many things, to value people over possessions. My dad's selfless act was based on his character. He saw how fearful and upset I was, and he chose to respond with mercy and kindness rather than erupt and be rash with his words. When he could have punished me, instead he lavished me with love. The concept of grace can be hard to grasp but it was made tangible on that hot summer day in 1984. Ephesians 1:3-8 tells us about the grace that has been given to us in Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood,

Heralded as one of the greatest decades in history… when greed was good, Jordache jeans were worn above the belly button, Hair stood on end with the aid of Aquanet, bands like Depeche Mode ushered in a new generation, a next generation of SciFi was born, and cars were seen as superheroes. This the only time where there is a juxtaposition of both analogue and digital while a generation of petrol heads were both living their best lives and early adopters simultaneously.  The Malaise era might have been the start of the “square bodies and round headlights” movement, but the 1980s… oh the 80s! That was the era of MTV, Killer-Bs, Body Kits and a massive evolution in the automotive industry. Where arguably, some of the iconic cars of our generation were born and carry on through today.   And like all What Should I Buy (WSIB) episodes… we have some shopping criteria. This time, we're going to settle a long standing argument about “Hot Hatches.” What is the actual difference between a shooting brake, liftback, hatchback, wagon and a sports coupe? Our panel of petrol-heads are challenged to solve that mystery as well as find our “first time collector” the best econobox that will make their friends go “where'd you get that?” at the next Cars & Coffee.  Picking up where we left off, the year is… 1983 and there is NO CORVETTE, but instead the world is introduced to GTI. Joining us tonight are veteran WSIB panelists… our 90's expert Mark Shank, Don Weberg from Garage Style Magazine, William Ross from Exotic Car Marketplace, bowtie man and square body historian Mountain Man Dan, and returning guest Jeff Willis, along with our executive producer: Tania!  ======================================================================== Check out our membership program and go VIP at: https://www.patreon.com/gtmotorsports Other cool stuff: https://linkin.bio/grantouringmotorsports GTM = Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - gtmotorsports.org

We are covering the 80's classic Pretty in Pink starring Molly Ringwald as Andie, a creative outcast who crushes on Blane, played by Andrew McCarthy. He's a 'richie' who also falls for her until Andie's 'bestie' Ducky, played by John Cryer and Blanes social circle gets involved. In this episode: we contemplate if Ducky is the Limoncello La Croix of the 80's (good at first but then nauseating the more you get), get nostalgic about Aqua Net hairspray and smoking in schools (obviously not together), and critique Andie's style which causes Corrine to run out of outfit juice and Tamara to call her Molly Wrongwald. We are putting our 80's rose tinted glasses on for this episode and it makes everything look Pretty in Pink, so join us.

Three podcast thralls have been selected to look back on “The Gamesters of Triskelion” - an iconic TOS episode with a lot of problematic elements when analyzed with a modern lens.  We discuss the episode, how interpretations change over time, and whether core messages still hold up.  And as always, we'll watch the lights in the sky.   Content Warning:  Discussions of violence, slavery, sexual assault, and transphobia.   HOSTS Sue Grace Kennedy   EDITOR Andi   Send us your feedback!
