Any longtime Friday the 13th fan, especially the older ones, would probably agree that Part 8 is the most frequently maligned chapter of the original octology. (Well, Part 8 or Part 5, anyway.) So it was a lot of fun to discuss this movie with my good pal and Found Footage 3D director Steven DeGennaro (@stevendegennaro), a man who deeply loves horror movies. Horror fans are a ridiculously loyal sort, but for the most part they don't love change. Back in 1982, producers John Carpenter and Debra Hill wanted to shake things up in their Halloween franchise. Instead of just bringing boogeyman Michael Myers back for a third slash-fest, the franchise would now be done anthology-style. As in: each new Halloween movie would be its very own thing. Like Tales from the Crypt did a few years later with Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood.  But things didn't go precisely as planned.  For this episode I'm joined by Scott Allen Perry (@scottallenperry), who I worked with on Found Footage 3D, but maybe you've also seen him movies like Keeping Up with the Joneses, The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, and the seasonal classic known as Santa Jaws. Jake's time has finally come! As Scary Stuff's resident fan of found footage horror, Jake has put together a special quartet of movies for an episode dedicated entirely to that subgenre. It might have been a long wait to get here, but we couldn't be happier with the results. This is some of the most fun we've had recording an episode thus far. The first movie up is Devil's Pass (2013) from director Renny Harlin, the movie that gave birth to the "Too Stupid To Live" moment Jake discussed all the way back in Episode Two.  Next up is Savageland (2015), a "mockumentary" style movie that all three of our hosts feel deserves much more attention. And to help spotlight it, author Gabino Iglesias (who's currently accepting submissions for an anthology of found-footage horror stories) was kind enough to come onto our pod to discuss it with us!  We also have a special guest for our next movie: Butterfly Kisses (2018). For this one, we're joined by Trevor Henderson, a fabulous artist whose work decidedly reflects the influence of found footage horror. Lastly we review Found Footage 3D (2016), which is currently available on Shudder and makes for an interesting meta companion piece to Butterfly Kisses. We hope you have as much fun listening to this episode as we did recording it. We also hope you support our special guests: Gabino Iglesias has multiple works available on Amazon (our host Eric particularly recommends the novel Zero Saints), and Trevor Henderson offers prints of some of his works at  https://trevorhenderson.format.com/ And as always, thanks so much for listening!! CW: some of the movies in the episode include references to self-harm and/or suicide, which are likewise mentioned in our discussions. TIMECODES: Devil's Pass = 00:12:14 Savageland (with Gabino Iglesias) = 01:39:14 Butterfly Kisses (with Trevor Henderson) = 03:09:57 Found Footage 3D = 04:34:49

Welcome back to Duncan and Bo Go to Twin Peaksies!  This time around, we’ll be digging into some wonderfully Lynchian episodes, but first we touch on Duncan’s take on Leatherface and Happy Death Day, Bo checks out Found Footage 3D and debates A Dark Song before being a whimp about Hounds of Love.  Then, it’s off to the races with Twin Peaks: The Returnises where  we get into the pie-fueled return of Miriam, Carl’s eerie van powers, Shelly’s poor choices, Belushi’s bloodlust, Tammy gets promoted and Diane gets deputized, Sarah Palmer is not doing well, Gordon entertains a lady and Albert is unimpressed and, of course, AUDREY!!! From the filmmakers behind Found Footage 3D: "When he's hired to document the behind-the-scenes action of the ultralow-budget horror movie Spectre of Death ("the first 3D found-footage horror film"), an aspiring filmmaker packs up his camera and travels with the film's crew to a creepy cabin in the woods. But when the fictional evil presence from their film begins appearing in his behind-the-scenes footage, he has to figure out how to stop it, or it just may find its way into the real world. In the same way that Scream deconstructed the slasher sub-genre in the 90’s, FF3D takes a found-footage horror movie and populates it with people who are aware of all of the rules, tricks, and clichés of the genre. They know how to make a found footage movie. But do they know how to survive one?" FOUND FOOTAGE 3D, the latest release from SHUDDER, is a meta exercise, a pitch black comedy, a geek screed against the mundane, and a fully functional horror movie. To help Trevor and Matt reveal all the Matryoshka dolls of FF3D is the film's writer and director, Steven DeGennaro. In this full interview, DeGennaro walks the Nighthawks through a soup-to-nuts behind-the-scenes look at this sharply funny and deviously clever entry in the meta horror lexicon.

ON THIS THRILLING EPISODE OF CINEPUNX THE DUDES CHECK IN, GO HAM ON SOME WACK AND ON TRACK, AND EXPLORE SOME OCTOBER SPOOKYNESS! Greetings friends! Thank you for joining us for yet another spectacular episode of CINEPUNX! Every episode of this show since the first has been edited by me, Liam O’Donnell, and before we created this show I had never edited a piece of audio in my mother fucking life! This episode was also edited by yours truly, BUT, I wanted to publicly acknowledge that we now, finally, have editing help from Mr. Jaime Burchardt. While learning these skills has been amazing, having some help really frees me up to do other things for the site, like maybe write something or edit Josh’s other show he is trying to launch. ANYWAY, on this episode Josh and I decided to simply catch up, as we had not been able to hang for some time. This is a little unfocused and a little rambling, but as charming as ever. We talk to some extent about our current CINE-WEEN EVENT! We also discuss a number of current films and music events we have participated in, hype some and shit talk others. Mostly excitement though cause we are huge fan boys. There are a few events we also endorse, nothing that shouldn’t be too hard for the listener to find info on. Please comment below if you have any questions or comments or you have an event you want us to talk about on our next episode! We should add some links of stuff we talked about, but who has time for that? How about this, YOU comment with some relevant links and I will add them to this post and even post them on our Facebook page. You nerds.   Sound seems aight on this one, probably cause Steve DeGennaro, director of Found Footage 3D spent like 20 minutes on facebook instructing me on how to use my own sound equipment. As usual we owe big thanks to all our listeners and supporters, to folks like John Foster, Nick Spacek, Andrew Wellbrock, Justin Harlan, Jefferson Creek, AND ALLL THE CINEPUNX WRITERS ROOM, the entire BROAD STREET BREAKDOWN crew, our friends at THE NERDS OF NOSTALGIA, Evan Vellela, Mikey Smack, Justin Miller, Justin Grey, Joe Yanick, Jamie Burchardt and the ENTIRE BEHIND THE SCENES CINEPUNX CREW, and as usual both our wives, Meilani and Susan. PLEASE- RATE, REVIEW,SUBSCRIBE, DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD, and also check out the writing on the website. ON THIS EPISODE WE ARE JOINED BY WRONG EVAN AND CARP TO TALK DREAMS, IKIRU, STRAY DOG, AND SEVEN SAMURAI!!! Hey there dudes and, if we are lucky, WOMEN! (Dudettes is so demeaning!) Welcome to another healthy and robust edition of CINEPUNX! On this episode we are joined by FAM Evan and Carp. A brief perusal of our past episodes will reveal these two dudes to be long time members of the extended Cinepunx family. We asked the dudes to join us for a discussion of the films of AKIRA KUROSAWA. There are some minor sound issues, discussed more fully below.   Now you look here, we KNOW that we are, by no means, experts on Kurosawa films, or Japanese films in general for that matter. I hope our discussion reflects the humility we feel when it comes to movies, and functions for you all simply as a fun invitation to a conversation. We focus on four films in particular that we each love: DREAMS STRAY DOG IKIRU SEVEN SAMURAI These are not some sort of master list, but simply the ones we happen to love. There are so many amazing films in Kurosawa’s filmography, you should come up with your own favorites and let us know about it. Big Thanks to the dudes for coming out for this episode, I make fun but they were really a great asset to our discussion. We talk about a lot of bands and shows and film events I should link you too, but luckily google exists so I can be lazy! This episode features music by FURY and by ANGEL DU$T, both bands are sick so throw them some love! SOUND NOTES: So basically, I fucked this episode up sound wise. I spent some time discussing the issue with new friend of the show Steven DeGennaro, who besides being the director of new horror sensation FOUND FOOTAGE 3D also worked in sound mixing for like 25 years and long story short, I turned up what i should have turned down and turned down what I should have turned up. Human error basically, which is good news cause we cannot possibly afford new equipment right now, but bad news cause this episode is not our best sound wise. With his advice though I am more than confident the problem will not persist into the future. THANKS STEVEN!! Ok so as always SUBSCRIBE RATE REVIEW DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD!!! We are always looking for friends, collaborators, promoters, potential sponsors, guests, and contributors! So shoot us an email, or hit us on facebook or twitter!!
