KT doubles down on his call to fire Rangers manager Bruce Bochy—even after a 16-run game. The crew debates whether this is the most wasted year of elite pitching in Rangers history.A player poll reveals which MLB managers players love—and which ones they avoid like the plague. One player even says, “I like using my cell phone,” in response to Ron Washington's no-phone policy. The guys riff on this with a side-splitting Bochy impression that morphs into “Sling Boach.”Plus, conspiracy theories fly as the gang reacts to Rodgers casually revealing he's been married for months. Is it Britney Spears? A ghost? A Belushi lookalike? The speculation is wild and hilarious.

Alan Zweibel Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson Live from the Zoom Room, it's Alan Zweibel! It was so great to jump back in with the fabulous, funny, and fun Emmy Winner. Alan took us back to his earliest days in the biz, how he made his way in, the first joke he sold, still funny! The Catskill Mountains, Morty Gunty, Freddie Roman, Rodney Dangerfield, maybe his first collaborator… with whom Alan comes full circle, presently. Doing standup with Billy Crystal, leading to years of collaboration, being discovered by Lorne Michaels… SNL, Alan's game changer. Gilda, a partnership made in heaven - how Roseannne Roseannadanna and Emily Latella came to be, Belushi, Ackroyd, the current film, Saturday Night, where it felt right, where liberties were taken, how it felt to have someone play him. Co-creating It's The Garry Shandling Show with Gary, how they worked together. Writing Lunatics with Dave Barry, long distance, For This We left Egypt with Dave and Adam Mansbach, and a great story about how that friendship and collaboration began. Broadway with Billy and with Martin Short, and the cute, sweet note after their encounter at the SNL 50th reunion. Alan's current collab with Barry Levinson, how that started and where it is today, that full circle Rodney story coming to fruition currently… and through it all, Robin. Alan's love and wife since the early SNL days… and his most fruitful collaborator. Alan's devotion to his family is what stories are made of, as is his work ethic, resiliency, tenacity, and talent. His storytelling is what good conversations are made of, served up with laughs, lots of them. What an inspiration! Loved every minute of this. And I sure did need the eggs. Our guest today, RJ Cutler opened up 2021 with his raw, emotional, and remarkable new documentary Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry. He's a phenomenal documentary and TV director and producer with nearly thirty years of experience in the business. The $2 million dollars documentary film which was directed, written, and produced by Cutler centered around singer-songwriter teen sensation and Grammy Award artist, Billie Eilish --- Revealing the creation process of Eilish's debut studio album ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?'The very intimate telling of Eillish's solid support system and family, navigating the ropes of the music fame as a young artist depicted unconventionally and astoundingly. From college, Cutler started off as a theater director in New York for nine years until he transitioned to filmmaking in 1993 with his debut film, The War Room. The film follows James Carville and George Stephanopoulos, at first during the New Hampshire primary, and then mostly in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the Clinton campaign headquarters. Producing the film, he was able to combine his journalism and theater directing backgrounds. The film went on to win an Oscar®.He's taken on great subject matters and big presences in his documentaries; the likes of legendary John Belushi, Anna Wintour, and Dick Cheney.Belushi, released in 2020, examines the too-short life of comedian, actor and musician, John Belushi, original SNL cast member, using previously unheard audiotapes recorded shortly after John Belushi's death. Cutler credits his storytelling to the ability to connect the subject to the processes. People's desire to have their stories told, especially in documentaries, transcends the technicalities of making a documentary.Other well-known films or shows from Cutler are The September Issue (2009), Thin (2006), and Dear… (2020)Dear... profiles game-changing icons and the people whose lives they've inspired.Inspired by Apple's groundbreaking “Dear Apple” ad for the Apple Watch, Dear... is an inventive approach to biographies of the influential people who are shaping culture and society today using letters that fans have written to them. Dear... focuses on key moments from subjects' lives and their work that has profoundly impacted not only the individuals who have written letters but the world at large. All episodes are available to watch now on the Apple TV app with an Apple TV+ subscription. We talked a lot about Cutler's journey in the industry and how he landed the project to direct the first TELL ALL of the coolest 19-year-old in the US right now.Enjoy my enlightening conversation with RJ Cutler.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.

The Not Ready for Prime Time Podcast: The Early Years of SNL
John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd were at the forefront of American comedy in the late 1970s and early '80s. Emerging from The Second City, they both joined the original cast of the Not Ready for Prime Time Players as Saturday Night Live was being formed in 1975. On that show, they helped redefine television comedy and ushered in a new era of revolutionary satire. By 1979, they had a #1 hit record with their band, The Blues Brothers, and a year later, they released a motion picture about the characters, which became a major box office success.Daniel de Vise chronicles the lives and careers of both Aykroyd and Belushi in his recent biography, The Blues Brothers: An Epic Friendship, the Rise of Improv, and the Making of an American Film Classic. Beginning with their childhoods, the book recounts their individual comedic beginnings, explores the friendship they forged, details their joint rise to comic stardom, and culminates in an in-depth look at the making of this comedy classic.Daniel joins us to discuss not only John and Dan but also to share stories about his research and writing process. We delve into their iconic roles and the legacy of both performers—as well as that of Jake and Elwood—helping to cement what makes these two comedic legends truly unforgettable.Listen till the very end to hear how you can win an autographed copy of Daniel's book,The Blues Brothers: An Epic Friendship, the Rise of Improv, and the Making of an American Film Classic! You can also purchase a copy of here!---------------------------------Subscribe today!Follow us on social media: X (Twitter): NotReady4PTPodInstagram: notready4ptpodFacebook: The Not Ready for Prime Time PodcastContact Us: Website: https://www.notready4ptpod.comEmail: notready4ptpod@gmail.com
That Show Hasn't Been Funny In Years: an SNL podcast on Radio Misfits
Nick looks back at the work of actor, writer, and director Buck Henry during the first five seasons of Saturday Night Live. Henry, who already had a rich history in TV and film during the 60s and 70s, became a mainstay in the early years of SNL, hosting the show a record 10 times in less than five years. Known for his sharp humor, Buck was always hilarious in sketches, delivered wonderfully meta monologues, and created recurring characters that stood toe-to-toe with anything the regular cast members could produce. In this episode, you'll hear some of Buck Henry's classic sketches, including "Lord and Lady Douchebag," "The Meeting in Sodom," and the incredibly controversial "Uncle Roy" bits, where he played a pedophilic babysitter—a character that remains infamous. You'll also hear from Buck Henry himself as he reflects on his time working on the show, dealing with censors, getting injured on live TV, and the fallout from the Uncle Roy sketches. Of course, Nick will also cover Henry's hilarious work with John Belushi, playing the straight man to Belushi's unforgettable Samurai Futaba character. It's time to celebrate Buck Henry—a brilliant writer, a hilarious performer, and an SNL legend. [Ep94]

Another unusual podcast. Jennifer begins by talking about her meeting over at United Talent Agency where they're talking with her about doing some shows... and then spoke about her "uncorked event" in Manhattan Beach last Monday. We then spoke about a book she's been reading that on the back cover talks about someone meeting Jimi Hendrix on the flipside - someone who has shown up often in our sessions, whether in the books BACKSTAGE PASS TO THE FLIPSIDE or TUNING INTO THE AFTERLIFE. (People who report being greeted by him on the flipside included Janis Joplin (who left the stage a few months after him) by Charles Grodin who saw him as a talk show host, by John Lennon who saw him waiting for him onstage to play "Blue Suede Shoes." Also Harry Dean Stanton said he was playing at the Monterey Pop festival, and later Fred Roos said the same about seeing Jimi on the flipside. Everyone recognizes him. I was at a screening of a new film called "Rebel With a Cause" a documentary about the late great actor and humanitarian Charles Grodin. It's a terrific film with interviews of Robert De Niro, Martin Short, Steve Martin and others. Jennifer hasn't seen the film, no one has seen the film, but Charles was able to answers questions about the screening and about the content of the film. Then a number of people stopped by to talk about the film, about how they all get to watch the film because people they know in our group of the flipside were in attendance, and by connection, so were they. Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse (both answer questions), Heath Ledger - as well as Paul Allen, Junior Seau and Dave Duerson - who were reminding Jennifer this morning about how "oxygen therapy can help with brain trauma" - in reference to fellow football player Brett Favre announcing he has Parkinson's. I'm sorry I didn't get to everyone. I like to point out that people can talk to them if they take the time to ask them questions and wait for the answers. The answer might not be verbal, they may be visual. Another mind bending session - and it ends with a conversation with Phil Hartman - someone Jennifer didn't know, but who Charles Grodin was instrumental and helping to get an audition with his friend Lorne Michaels, who cast him in the SNL show. Phil talks about seeing Belushi on the flipside, and about his reaction to seeing Charles Grodin as well. It's all mind bending, but that doesn't stop us from sharing this information. Hope it helps.
This summer, the Green Rush team is revisiting our extensive archives, curating a selection of over 300 past episodes. This collection will feature memorable moments, insightful interviews, and some of the team's favorite episodes, providing both new listeners and long-time fans an opportunity to explore or rediscover the best of Green Rush. Stay tuned for the upcoming launch of our new podcast in the fall, "Alternatively Speaking." We're revisiting our interview with Jim Belushi, actor, musician, comedian, all around entertainer as well as cannabis entrepreneur and the founder of Belushi's Farms. Jim has long been a household name due to his distinguished acting career but he's also incredibly active in the cannabis community with a nearly 100 acre farm in the heart of Oregon's beautiful banana belt, he is out there getting his hands dirty and producing some of the most-talked about cannabis in the state. With brands like Captain Jack, The Blues Brothers and Good Ugly Weed and Belushi's Secret Stash, Jim Belushi's cannabis products are quickly becoming the most talked about product line across the state. Jim was gracious enough to sit down with our hot Anne Donohoe and guest host Phil Carlson to talk about his cannabis journey and venture into becoming a cannpreneur. In the discussion, Jim dishes on the role cannabis plays in his life, his work with important advocacy organizations like the Last Prisoner Project and why he loves getting into the dirt and actually taking part in the growing of his own plants. This episode was a real treat and something that we hope all of our listeners can enjoy – we sure did! So don't sit back, lean forward and enjoy! Jim Belushi, Hollywood Star and Cannabis Entrepreneur It's been 12 years since Jim first came to Oregon's Rogue Valley where his dear friend John has a sprawling property along the Rogue River, one town over in Shady Cove. Their children are the same age and attended classes together in California, so the families gathered for many activities over the years. With Jim's own family's experience and numerous others marred by opioids and the stigmatization of cannabis, Jim was incredibly grateful to have been led to the Rogue River where he first envisioned Belushi's Farm and his own part in the agricultural and healing gift of cannabis. Cathy Moriarty Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson Girl Crush! I've had one for years on Academy Award Nominee, Cathy Moriarty, now after spending a virtual hour with her, forgetaboutit! I always knew she was an incredible actress, whether making me laugh or cry, but, what an amazing woman… mother, daughter, loyal friend, and pet rescuer. We talked the Bronx, where we both come from, Alexanders, our mothers, gratefully still with us, Cathy's pre-Pesci discovery acting days… high school drama, plays, dinner theatre, no agent, no professional training, but grabbing stage time wherever she could, auditioning and then a bathing suit contest to win a coveted pair of shoes that would change her stars. The trifecta at 17, the beforementioned Pesci, DeNiro, and Scorcese––Raging Bull. Her first film which led to that Oscar nod, on-the-job master classes, and a friendship with her character's namesake that would last the rest of Vikki LaMotta's lifetime. Neighbors. Belushi's last film. Ackroyd's kindness. All Cathy learned about comedy from them. Soapdish, how she almost didn't get it, who almost did, one of Cathy's favorite films for so many reasons. A horrible car accident, getting back to work… Kindergarten Cop, Forget Paris, Casper, Speilberg, Eric Idle, Copland, Stallone, more DeNiro, Analyze That, and how easy they are together. Despite all the work, Cathy's so un-Hollywood. Unfazed by celebrity and stardom, she dreamt of being a great actress not a movie star. A mother, who loves to cook, and thanks to Marty's mother (Scorcese) she prides herself on making the best sauce and meatballs around, she's also a savvy businesswoman who's owned a few restaurants and very successful pizzerias. We're regulars at the Encino location. There was so much more to talk about than we had time for - there's a slice of pizza in our future… I have witnesses! What started out as respect, and adoration… I adore, more! Saturday Night Live over the decades has served as a building block for comedians, using that platform as a way to get your name out there and eventually spin their popularity into other ventures. One of the earliest, and most iconic cases, being the American Classic that SNL alums Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi created with “The Blues Brothers.” A new book, by writer and journalist Daniel de Visé, gets into how Aykroyd and Belushi's kinetic, comedic energy was spun into a just as entertaining production process. Along with the film's influence on pop culture humor, it also shares how the film's appreciate of blues music is best encapsulated by its soundtrack and appearances by Aretha Franklin and James Brown. For this week's FilmWeek feature, we talk to Daniel de Visé, author of “The Blues Brothers: An Epic Friendship, the Rise of Improv, and the making of an American Film Classic” about what he was able to uncover from revisiting this film the captured a special moment in American film and comedy.
Back in 1980, I recall going to the cinema to see a new film, The Blues Brothers. Music and car chases…..what wasn't there to love? The critics hated it because….ya know….that's what they're paid to do. A few years after initial release, it became THAT cult film that everyone watched – on TV, on video or at late night cinema screenings (in Melbourne, it became an audience participation phenomenon similar to Rocky Horror). The question is how did the film get made? Welcome to episode 115 of See Hear Podcast. Kerry, Tim and I welcomed to the show journalist and author Daniel De Vise. He's written a great new book called “The Blues Brothers: An Epic Friendship, the Rise of Improv, and the Making of an American Film Classic”. As the title implies, it's not just about the making of the film (although a large part of it is devoted to that subject). Daniel did extensive research to talk about the early lives and characters of Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. They were a part of the new North American comedy movement Second City, National Lampoon and Saturday Night (later Saturday Night Live), so he writes much about those institutions. There's talk in the book about Aykroyd's love of blues and how he (and Robert Cray's harmonica player) made Belushi a blues fanatic. There's stories of 70s cinema, addiction, egos, friendship, men in bee costumes, and origin of The Blues Brothers. We were rapt that Daniel came on the show to talk about his book and about the blues, the accusations of racism thrown against the comedians who wanted to bring brilliant blues and soul musicians back to the spotlight, the comedy movement as the new rockstar, how rock musicians started taking themselves too seriously…..and a TON of other things. Yeah, we even talk about The Blues Brothers movie. The environment that led to the film is hugely important and it would be impossible to talk about it without telling the wider story as to how the film got made. Daniel has done a terrific job in doing this. I hope you enjoy listening to our conversation even half as much as we did having it. You can follow his goings on at danieldevise.com, and you can pick up the book in both physical and e-book formats wherever you usually get your reading material.
