the Blessings of God are new daily.
This week in Church on Fire, we're in Acts 15 with Pastor Brian McCormack. The gospel is Jesus plus nothing equals everything. The second you take out the "nothing" and add anything to it, you ruin the whole thing. That's what was at stake in the Jerusalem Council. Some believers were trying to load new converts with extra requirements to prove they really belonged. Peter, James, and the wider church pushed back and kept the gospel clear. When gospel clarity goes down, the song of the church shifts from "look at what he's done" to "what have you been up to?"Then something else surfaces. Acts 15 opens with the word "But," which means it's responding to what came just before, Paul and Barnabas returning to celebrate that God had opened a door of faith. Read that way, this whole chapter is about an enemy trying to close a door God has opened. When attacking the messengers didn't work, he moved to attack the message. Keep your Jesus, just add a few things.Four things kept the door open in the early church, and still do now: guard the gate, protect the treasury, empty the armory, hold the line.

This week Seth Paridon and Jon Parshall take a deep dive into the withdrawal actions fought by General Jonathan Wainwright's troops of the Northern Luzon Force from December 24, 1941 through January 1, 1942. The guys get into the actions of some of the men who, quite literally, held the door open so that General Parker's Southern Luzon Force could escape into Bataan during the latter portion of 1941. Wainwright's battered troops of the 11th and 91st Filipino Divisions as well as the American tankers of the 192nd and 194th tank battalions do battle with Homma's troops in sharp fights not often spoken of. Daryl and Lima react to Andrew Berry's bombshell that a Deshaun Watson contract extension isn't off the table, breaking down exactly how well Watson would have to play to make that conversation even remotely realistic. Daryl sets the bar at top 10 quarterback play leading to a playoff run, then immediately acknowledges how improbable that sounds given Watson has played just 19 games in six years. The guys agree on one thing: even if Watson somehow resurrects his career elsewhere after Cleveland moves on, they're fine with it.

In Week 5 of our Church Unbranded series, Pastor Matt Piland dives into one of the most famous passages in the entire Sermon on the Mount: Matthew 5:13-16. Jesus doesn't tell His disciples to try to become salt and light; He makes definitive identity statements: "You ARE the salt of the earth” and You ARE the light of the world." In this challenging message, Pastor Matt confronts our natural impulse to build our own little territorial kingdoms where we try to remain king, inviting us instead to step out into a decaying and dark society to quietly preserve, heal, and reflect the glory of our Heavenly Father.

If you recruit long enough, you will hear this phrase more than any other. I'm happy where I am. For many leaders, that statement feels like the end of the conversation. They back off, close the file, and move on. But the best recruiters understand something important. That sentence usually means not right now, not never. In this episode of Recruiting Conversations, I walk through how to respond in a way that builds trust, opens curiosity, and keeps the relationship alive without pressure. Because recruiting the right way is not about pushing someone to leave where they are today. It is about building a relationship that positions you as the leader they think about when circumstances eventually change. Episode Breakdown [00:00] The Phrase Every Recruiter Hears "I'm happy where I am" is often the most polite way someone says they are not interested today. The mistake many leaders make is assuming that means the door is permanently closed. [01:15] What They Are Really Saying When someone says they are happy, it usually means: They are not in enough pain to move yet They do not see a compelling reason to explore They do not know you well enough to trust the conversation They have not yet heard a vision that feels bigger than their current experience Your job is not to challenge their happiness. Your job is to build a relationship that keeps the door open. [01:40] Step 1: Acknowledge and Affirm Start by respecting where they are. A simple affirmation disarms resistance and communicates that you are not trying to pressure them. Example mindset: Being happy in this industry is a good thing. It tells me they have built something meaningful. [02:10] Step 2: Shift From Change to Curiosity The goal is not to make them dissatisfied. The goal is to make them curious. Instead of pushing a move, ask questions that invite reflection. When was the last time you had a conversation about what is possible long term, not about making a move? Questions like this open dialogue without creating pressure. [02:50] Step 3: Position Value Without the Pitch Many leaders make the mistake of immediately launching into a sales pitch. Instead, offer a simple preview of what you are building. Share the vision, the leadership philosophy, or the kind of environment you are creating. This positions you as someone worth knowing, not just someone trying to recruit them. [03:30] Step 4: Follow Up With Purpose Do not treat the conversation as a closed loop. Maintain connection with meaningful follow-up. Share insights, invite them to leadership conversations, or include them in masterminds and events. People who are happy today may not be happy tomorrow. Markets shift. Leadership changes. Opportunities evolve. And when that moment comes, they will remember the leader who stayed present. Key Takeaways "I'm Happy" Is Not a Closed Door It is simply a signal that the timing is not right yet. Respect Builds Trust Faster Than Pressure Affirming someone's current situation shows integrity. Curiosity Opens Conversations Thoughtful questions create engagement without resistance. Vision Attracts More Than Persuasion Preview the environment you are building instead of pitching a move. Consistency Wins the Long Game Meaningful follow-up ensures you are the first person they think of when things change. Recruiting is not about convincing someone to leave where they are today. It is about building relationships that position you as the right leader when their next chapter begins. Want Help Building These Conversations? If you want help scripting early-stage recruiting conversations or creating a follow-up cadence that builds trust instead of pressure, I would love to help. You can schedule time directly on my calendar and we will walk through: How to handle early recruiting objections How to structure curiosity-driven conversations How to build a long-term recruiting relationship strategy How to follow up with value instead of pressure Visit bookrichardnow.com and grab a time that works for you. Let's build a recruiting system that keeps the right doors open and positions you as the leader people call when they are ready for their next chapter.
The government has left the door slightly ajar on help at the petrol pump. Political reporter Lillian Hanly reports.
God has opened the gates of influence in this hour, and the Church must recognize the moment. There is a long term cultural strategy shaping media, law, education, and government, and most believers do not see how intentional it really is. This is not about conflict, it is about Spirit filled sons and daughters rising into positions of wisdom, leadership, and service across every sphere of society. If you want clarity on what God is doing in America right now and how you can move from prayer to purposeful influence, this message will show you where you fit in the unfolding reformation. When you're raised in a family that trades ghost stories like recipes, you learn the world is never empty. For one young woman, that truth took root inside a narrow Oregon townhouse — a place her family called a crossroads for the dead. For years, spirits came and went: the basement dogs, the Native man who cooled her cheek, the old woman who whispered “that's nice” right beside her ear. But the most terrifying presence never left. It lingered at the top of the stairs, knocking politely in threes — always waiting to be invited in. When her cat refused to enter her room, when the blankets dipped with unseen footsteps, when a man's shape pressed across her chest in the dark — she realized the haunting had learned her rhythms. Even grief seemed to feed it. Cleansings, crosses, and courage only kept it at bay for a while. And sometimes, when the night goes still enough, she can still feel the townhouse breathe back.
