Jim Miller is the founder of Crit Hit AZ, a convention focused on tabletop gaming in Arizona, and is now Co-Director of Tabletop Games of Game on Expo, happening on March 15th to 17th in Phoenix. He is also a game designer and community builder, and, like all weirdos, a lot more than all of that. I got to know Jim a long time ago, back when I was publishing my first games. Jim was super supportive of my work and the first photos of people playing my games on conventions are probably from Crit Hit AZ. Gratitude, Jim!
The word is charcuterie, so the nerds start by sharing their thoughts on charcuterie boards. Andy announces that Leila is taking over the job of doing the sound editing on this show, then they talk about Hearts and Whist and Icehouse and Magic. Keith reports on GameHoleCon and shares his spoiler-free thoughts about Bodies and Loki Season 2. After dropping the spoiler curtain, they discuss the finale of Season 4 of Lower Decks, with a few added thoughts about the Fall of the House of Usher and The Last of Us.

This week's guest is Luke Crane and we get into the philosophy behind TTRPG creation. We talk about making games as a teen, creating his games Burning Wheel, Mouse Guard and Torchbearer. We talk about his LARP Inheritance, and Luke and Steve playing it together at Gen Con 2023. Follow Luke Crane: Website--Flaming blood drips from the ceiling onto narrow ledges over a pool of fire-blood that'll stick to you like napalm. Trap! A portcullis drops down in the doorway you came through, cutting you off from escape. The ledges collapse underneath you. She's bleeding fire, yelling her true name and the name of her true love (who's somewhere nearby). You can heal Janet's magical wounds to calm her down, but to break the curse you must bring her true love before her. She wields the oversized Book ov Blood & Fire like a flail to knock you into the pool, or flings pages for a ranged attack. If a page hits you, make a mental save (with a solid debate argument) or suffer The Rules: When you bleed, your blood becomes fire. You must say your true name and the name of your true love. The proprietors are Keeper, a kindly middle-aged woman who'll train you to see a TacocaT, and Sage, an old, bearded, zen dude with long hair who'll teach you to symbiotically bond with a TacocaT. They're both wearing deer antlers covered in hanging crystals. To see a TacoCaT, you must clear your mind and think only taco thoughts. When you do, there's a ton of them. They're everywhere and it's cat chaos. They're pouring out of an interdimensional TacocaT waterfall into a cuddle puddle pool in the center of the room.A TacocaT is an adorable, squamous, symbiotic dream cat from the elemental plane of tacos. They have hard-taco-shell armor with fur tufts poking out between their plates, a hot-sauce hiss, and excrete delicious churros. When you bond with a TacocaT, they can regurgitate an infinite amount of tacos of whatever variety you can imagine, and they can attach to you to create a full body TacocaT armor. The floor is an unstable pile of 10-foot diameter wooden nickels. In front of you are three massive wheels that spin vertically every time the giant troll Gorm Gasher puts a new nickel in the slot hundreds of feet above you. Roll a DEX save to avoid being hit by the giant wooden nickel. A sign reads, “Three crowns wins the jackpot!” Wheel symbols: 1) Good-cherries, 2) tooth, 3) sausage nunchucks, 4) numeral 9, 5) eyeball, 6) crown. The game: Rig the wheels to hit the three crown jackpot, but remember the winning combination on the wheels are facing away from you. When you hit the jackpot, a magic crown prize materializes (1/day summon 4 ninjas or reroll one die). Then the floor opens up. You and the nickels spill into the giant casino's shag carpet floor, that to you is like a forest.Art: Tiger Wizard Words: Steve AlbertsonStory by: Andrew Bellury, Steve Albertson, Chris O'Neill —Dungeon Cats is a rules-light, casual TTRPG by our own Tiger Wizard. This week's guest is Gavin Norman of Necrotic Gnome. We talk about OSE - Old School Essentials, and his incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign for Dolmenwood RPG with Exalted Funeral. The Kickstarter is live now though Sep. 8, 2023.Follow Necrotic Gnome: Website - FB - IG - XTwitter--In the center of the room is the Cauldron of Sadness. It has arms to stir itself and quick legs that dance and leap, yet it never spills a drop. It has a duality of goblin faces on either side. One is the quintessential personification of sadness, the other of happiness. The game: PCs secretly write down six items that are connected to their past. Designate three as happy and three as sad. These items appear on tables. The cauldron tells you to each choose an item that isn't your own, and add it to the cauldron. PCs tell the cauldron when they're done adding items.Resolution: If more sad items were added, it opens a portal of sadness, and sorrow begins to take over the world. If more happy items were added, a portal of happiness. If an equal amount of happy and sad items were added, the cauldron shrinks down and becomes a small pouch. Once a day you may draw from the pouch to pull out a specific item that is meaningful to whoever you're targeting. Roll a d6: 1-3 the item makes them sad, 4-6 the item makes them happy.Art: Tiger Wizard Words: Steve AlbertsonStory by: Andrew Bellury, Steve Albertson, Gavin Norman--Sky ov Crimson Flame this Saturday from 7 - 9 pm EST on the Goodman Games Twitch channel. We talk about game mastering, preparing to run campaigns and deep diving into world building his campaign settings for The Scouring Campaign, The Wasteland Campaign and The Malagorn Campaign.--Catwalks look down into the Idea Pool where aquatic creatures swim through liquid infinity. Elias Thugburger tells you the rules. Pay him a meaningful memory (lose it forever), and in exchange you may put together a fishing rod and cast it into the Idea Pool. The memory you put in influences what you pull out.Assemble your fishing rod by choosing one rod, reel, hook and bait. Add up the combined numeric value of the four items: 4) World-enhancing idea. 5-8) Banal idea. 9-11) World-changing idea that spawns a new religion. 12) World-ending idea.Rods: Corn stalk (1), Harpoon (2), Spine (3)Reels: Snail (1), Celestial hair (2), Hoof (3)Hooks: Molten plasma (1), Kraken beak (2), Superglued toenails (3)Bait: Gummy worms (1), Old boot (2), Photo of your best friend (3)Cast your line to pull out a fish who whispers the idea in your ear.
