We're discussing Makoto Shinkai's The Garden of Words this week! Get ready, because this week, Brad is fully locked and loaded and ready to not stop talking about great Shinkai is! Also, we talk about Blue's week from hell, Blue finally watches anything pertaining to Chainsaw Man and is now greatly intrigued by it, and we jump back down the well of discussing women's fashion! All of that and more, this week..... on BNB!
This week we talk about a short film called The Garden of Words, even though there were not very many words spoken in that garden the movie was still a pleasure to look at even if the story was lacking. But in terms of scoring Jack and Rick are split on this a little more than usually. Jack was not impressed with the story and did not have a need to drive to want to watch it again. Rick on the other hand enjoyed it more and would not mind seeing it again. What they do agree on is that you will enjoy the art for it. Producers: The Answer Studio, TOHO animation Studio: CoMix Wave Films Aired: May 2013 Genres: Drama, Romance, Slice of Life Source: Original Run Time: 46 min. Jack's score: 5 / 10 Rick's score: 7 / 10 Next week's choice is Corpse Princess. Have you seen next week's choice or one of the previous ones? Let us know what you thought of them or give us a recommendation on what we should watch next! Want to Advertise on our podcast? www.podbean.com/featuredanimepodcast Want to buy some merch? Makoto Shinkai is a name that has become increasingly prevalent over the years and for good reason. After hitting the anime industry in 2007 with his beloved film 5 Centimeters Per Second, he quickly established himself as a director with the ability to combine masterful artistic talent with emotional, bittersweet storytelling. Seven years later, Makoto releases The Garden of Words, where he honed in on beautiful animation styling and world building, leading to shortly after releasing Your Name - the second-largest grossing domestic film just behind Spirited Away, and the fourth-largest ever, behind Titanic and Frozen. In this episode we will cover both films 5 Centimeters Per Second and The Garden of Words and discuss our thoughts, hot takes and if Makoto Shinkai is truly the next Hayao Miyazaki. This episode kicks off a whole month of Makoto Shinkai movies! Cat and Joe start the month of Cupid and heart-shaped boxes, with the forlorn love story of The Garden of Words. Both Cat and Joe are left breathless by the extraordinarily beautiful animation of this rainy day film that doesn't outstay its welcome - coming in at only 46 minutes long. While this film offers poetry, nostalgia and some sentimental themes, it never quite tips over into sappiness. Cat and Joe also offer some hot takes which DRASTICALLY change the meaning of the film with a couple of fun conspiracy theories. Available to watch on Netflix, CrunchyRoll and Vudu.
The gang brainstorms the engineering of a fart closet and Zea gets uncomfortable talking about feet. This week Izzy wraps up our theme on Adolescence with Makoto Shinkai's "The Garden of Words". This film, while beautifully animated, takes some of us to places never before imagined, where an unemployed grown up can hang out with a truent high schooler with a thing for feet, *cough*, I mean shoes and fall in love with them and everything is fine.

We talk about the works of Shinkai, the new Bakugan and what the hell is happening in Index...Again.
We yearn for companionship, a connection. A touch, to be recognized, to be loved. Garden of Words uses the idea of koi and the rain to illustrate this need. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/sagesrain)
We apologize in advance, but I don't think we had anything original to say about Makoto Shinkai's blatantly moist foot fetish film. A subpar episode on our part and we hope to do better in future :3

I only play hooky when it's raining.
This one’s been a long time coming…It was supposed to come after Cross Game, then I just didn’t get around to editing it. Then I decided that the top anime and movies lists should come first, so it just got pushed to the backburner. But never fear, Ink! Your suffering (ENJOYMENT!!) wasn’t for naught. I’m here to present everybody with the Taiiku Podcast’s greatest episode: Love Live School Idol Festival! To convince Ink (@AnimatedInk) to join in on the fun, I had to throw in Garden of Words, which he did a beautiful write up of over at Ani-Gamers. But I don’t regret that! Joining us is almost-regular Chris (@gokuffy) as we have a little fun talking about Shinkai and Love Live. Listen Show notes: 0:14 – We start the show! It’s Garden of Words time! Break time! 45:07 – We’re into Love Live talk! Much to Ink’s chagrin. 2:08:29 – I lied! There was more stuff I was supposed to edit in somewhere, but then I didn’t because I’m lazy. There’s a music buffer… That’s it! Next time, the artist formerly known as cyborgpop, Kyle (@ANewtypeCentury), and Chris join me for top movies of 2015!
Seamus is back to talk about popular shoujo manga; including AKB49 - Renai Kinshi Jourei, Whispered Words(Sasameki Koto), Tenbin wa Hana to Asobu, and Kimi ga Suki!! Then dakazu explains the comedy of the long running Afro Tanaka series and we talk about teacher/student romances done right in The Garden of Words for Manga in Motion!!!
Andrew and Chris review The Garden of Words (Kotonoha no Niwa). Following the review, they dabble a little into spoilers. If you have not watched the movie, avoid listening beyond the 35:35 marker.
Zac reviews Garden Of Words.
