Instead, Biden will be delivering remarks from Alaska. 4:05pm- On Sunday, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin announced he would be pardoning Scott Smith—the Loudon County father who was unjustly arrested and charged with disorderly conduct while speaking-out against the sexual assault of his daughter during a local school board meeting. The Wall Street Journal Editorial Bord writes: “The press treated Mr. Smith's verbal protest as part of some larger right-wing campaign of violence. The National School Boards Association cited the episode as an example of potential domestic terrorism in a letter to President Biden. Attorney General Merrick Garland followed with a letter asking the FBI and U.S. Attorneys to investigate threats against local school boards that haven't materialized. These actions appear to have been an attempt to fit Mr. Smith into the Democratic Party's portrayal of conservative critics of government as motivated by hatred. But Mr. Smith was understandably angry at the treatment of his daughter. A state investigation later found fault with the Loudoun school board's handling of the event.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/glenn-youngkins-good-pardon-virginia-scott-smith-threat-public-school-investigation-71376b98?mod=opinion_lead_pos2 4:30pm- Speaking from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, President Joe Biden commemorated the 22nd anniversary of the terror attacks on September 11th, 2001. 4:45pm- In an editorial posted to Fox News, former Navy SEAL and New York Times best-selling author Jack Carr reflected on the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks and the U.S. military's withdrawal from Afghanistan. Mukasey argues that “the 14th Amendment's Insurrection Clause” would not apply to former President Donald Trump. Meaning he could not be deemed ineligible to hold office again. Mukasey writes, “[a] good deal of attention has focused thus far on whether the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was an ‘insurrection or rebellion' and, if so, whether Mr. Trump ‘engaged' in it. Those questions, however, need not be answered until two preliminary questions of law are addressed: Is the presidency an ‘office . . . under the United States,' and was the presidential oath Mr. Trump swore on Jan. 20, 2016, to support the Constitution taken ‘as an officer of the United States'?” He continues: “The latter question is easier. The use of the term ‘officer of the United States' in other constitutional provisions shows that it refers only to appointed officials, not to elected ones. In U.S. v. Mouat (1888), the Supreme Court ruled that ‘unless a person in the service of the government . . . holds his place by virtue of an appointment . . ., he is not, strictly speaking, an officer of the United States.'” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/was-trump-an-officer-of-the-united-states-constitution-14th-amendment-50b7d26?mod=opinion_lead_pos5 4:15pm- While appearing on CNN with Erin Burnett, Harvard University Law Professor Laurence Tribe explained that Donald Trump should be deemed ineligible for public office under the 14th Amendment. Shaheen responded, “we've got to look at circumstances on the ground.” Senator Sheldon Whitehouse was asked a similar question and said: “That would depend.” 6:15pm- On Thursday, Senator JD Vance (R-OH) attempted to pass the “Freedom to Breathe Act”—effectively forbidding federal mask mandates. It was ultimately blocked by Senator Ed Markey (D-MA). 6:20pm- While appearing on CNN with Erin Burnett, Rep. The 43-page document paints a disturbing picture of failures at the homes in Menlo Park and Paramus where dozens of deaths occurred early in the outbreak. It said poor communication, lack of staff competency and other issues led to the coronavirus spreading ‘virtually unchecked throughout the facilities.'” You can read the full article here: https://apnews.com/article/new-jersey-nursing-homes-covid-justice-department-17bc00ec2c9216dedbae73ecf4823748# 6:40pm- In a recent Wall Street Journal opinion editorial, Michael B. In U.S. v. Mouat (1888), the Supreme Court ruled that ‘unless a person in the service of the government . . . holds his place by virtue of an appointment . . ., he is not, strictly speaking, an officer of the United States.'” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/was-trump-an-officer-of-the-united-states-constitution-14th-amendment-50b7d26?mod=opinion_lead_pos5

The failure of our elected officials to ensure that policies and plans were in place to hold him in custody until he was transferred to state prison — or (my preference) extradited to Brazil — is inexcusable. This convicted murderer is here illegally and there is a warrant for his arrest in his native Brazil. " Read more from Guy on this subject here. Today's guest has been growing houseplants since age 5, and the last 25 years he's been doing that not just at home, but also in historic Longwood Gardens Conservatory in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, where he's the conservatory manager. In 25 years working in the conservatory at Longwood Gardens, Karl Gercens estimates he's seen more than a million pots of display plants, many of them species we think of as houseplants, move through its galleries as different seasonal shows were staged. Each one has to be exceptional to make the grade, the best varieties and grown to perfection. So I know he has the answers on both fronts on which plants to choose and how to care for them.

If there was one thing you think society should talk more about, what would it be?“Something that I am passionate about because we get it so wrong is; How we value and remunerate our work?”_________If you've been lucky enough to travel to Uluru and see the breathtaking light installation at the base of the monolith you'll be excited to meet my guest today! The ‘Field of Light' as that art installation is known, was a project that initially was only going to showcase for a few short months but has become so popular that it's been extended time & again. It truly is a breathtaking sight. The Field of Light is the brainchild and magical work of British artist Bruce Munro who is very well-known for producing large immersive light-based installations in many locations around the world. These dynamic exhibitions are made up of thousands of components and incredible logistic feats in their own right - let alone being so beautiful and bringing so much joy to all those that see them. Bruce is an artistic diarist, who has spent over 30 years collecting and recording ideas and images in his sketchbooks, which he returns to over time as source material. Language, literature, science, and music have also greatly influenced his work. Frequently, Bruce's subject matter is his own experience of fleeting moments of rapport with the world and existence in its largest sense of being part of life's essential pattern. His reoccurring motif is the use of light on an environmental scale in order to create an emotional response for the viewer. Bruce completed a B.A. in Fine Arts at Bristol in 1982. Shortly after he moved to Sydney where he worked in design and lighting, inspired by Australia's natural light and landscape. Returning to England in 1992 he settled in Wiltshire, but his love for Australia was never lost and it was fitting when he finally got to realise his dream to light up the Central desert in such a magical way. Bruce's work has been shown at Museums and Botanical Gardens internationally, notably, Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, The Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Waddesdon Manor for the Rothschild Collection, Buckinghamshire; Beyond Limits 2016 for Sothebys at Chatsworth House; Messums, Wiltshire and the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne. His work Field of Light continues to be exhibited at Uluru, NT, Australia, Sensorio, California, USA and at the LBJ Wildflower Centre in Austin, TX, USA. Bruce's work is held in private and public museum collections internationally including Cheekwood Garden and Art Museum, TN, the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford and Texas Tech University TX.Whilst he's a global superstar in this world as his work has been featured at Museums and Botanical Gardens internationally, it was Bruce's down to earth manner and sheer love of creativity and the process that I remembered fondly the first time I met him all those years ago. But making the time to take on healthy behaviors can actually make you more productive in all other areas of your life.  It really comes down to having well-defined goals, setting your priorities, and sticking to them. I find this especially helpful if you feel you've failed in the past – you simply didn't have these goals as your priorities then, which is okay. I understand that it can feel overwhelming to try to start a fitness routine when you already have so much going on. Letting the overwhelming feeling win is easy, but by setting out your top three priorities daily, you can start getting a grip on it all.   Put Yourself First As women physicians, we're used to putting everyone else before ourselves. This is counterproductive! By putting yourself first, you fill your cup, giving you so much more energy, space, and opportunity to serve the other people and priorities in your life.  One of the other big excuses for fitness is procrastination. We tend to procrastinate on what isn't a priority for us. What if you did make your health and fitness a priority? Imagine what could change. I want you to invest in yourself. I want you to put yourself first. I want you to prioritize your health, wellness, fitness, and happiness. You are so worth it. Do your decisions align with your top priorities? What steps can you make this week to stop using any of these top ten excuses not to exercise? Let me know in the comments on the episode page.   In This Episode  How often we all use time as an excuse not to do something [4:00] What happens when we create the time to take on healthy behaviors [5:15] The importance of a clearly defined goal [8:15] What happens when you change your thought process about failure and priorities [11:30] How to prioritize exercise when you already have so much else going on [15:45] Why you are least productive when you're overwhelmed [16:45] What transformation happens when you put yourself first [23:00] Why we procrastinate on our health and fitness goals [24:45] Why you need to invest in yourself and your health [28:45]   Quotes “There are 24 hours in a day, and that's never going to change. It's not actually about the time, it's about how you use the time and what you choose to use your time on. It all comes down to priorities.” [3:26]  “We set ourselves up for disappointment. We set ourselves up for failure if we don't go ahead and define what it is that we want, and we agree to trust the process. That's why it's important that we know what we're getting ourselves into. Even if we get ourselves into something that's not comfortable, we can trust ourselves to be successful because we know what we're trying to achieve.” [9:16] “It starts with us. We have to agree that we are worth it, and there is no more putting a hold on ourselves.” [17:47] “It is so easy to try and put others first, but you will show up as your best self if you are putting yourself first. You are the most important person in the room.” [23:06] “The investment that you make in yourself and your health is priceless.” [28:43]   Resources Mentioned Transform Check out the full episode page here Find Life Coaching for Women Physicians Online Follow Dr. Ali Novitsky on Facebook | Instagram  Subscribe to Life Coaching for Women Physicians on Apple Podcasts Podcast production by the team at Counterweight Creative   Related Episodes Episode 128: Rethinking Weight Loss Episode 129: So Much More Than Weight Loss Part 1 Episode 130: So Much More Than Weight Loss Part 2

WINTER ROSE TALES: Part 1   On today's podcast, we have the first three of our Winter Rose Tales. These tales will feature the gardener, their gardens, and what they do to care for their roses in winter.   Elena Williams Suzanne Gilbert Lynn Hunt Elena Williams... a   I enjoyed being an elementary school teacher for 20 years and now I have transferred the experience over to teaching mostly adults about roses. I am the 2022 American Rose Guest Editor, A Master Consulting Rosarian, Horticulture and Arrangement judge and the Pacific NW Assistant District Director.   I have lived in and grown roses in zone 8B for 11 years. It is a maritime climate that stays relatively warm due to the warm influence of Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean.   I am a member of Seattle RS, Tacoma RS, Puyallup RS and my very local Kitsap County Rose Society.    Suzanne Gilbert...   My love of roses started as a young girl growing up in Baltimore, Maryland. I went with my parents to Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania and came home with three roses Peace, Tropicana and Chrysler Imperial. After moving to Houston with my family in 1989 I started growing roses more seriously with the help of the Houston Rose Society. I feel that one of the most important factors that I can attribute to growing roses successfully in my area has been the articles in the HRS newsletter, The Rose-Ette and the mentoring I have received from the consulting rosarians when I joined the Society. In 2012 I became a Consulting Rosarian.   I enjoy teaching about growing roses and I have given many presentations to gardening groups in the Houston area. I have served on the board of the Houston Rose Society as the publicity chairperson. I am currently serving as the president of the Houston Rose Society. Besides the satisfaction I receive from growing beautiful roses in my garden, roses have helped my meet and connect with so many wonderful people who have become very special friends.   Lynn Hunt...   I'm not sure when my love of roses started, perhaps before the age of two. My Grandfather had several roses in his Miami garden. I have a photo of me at 14 months stopping to sniff a blossom. Later, one of my neighbors planted a lovely crescent-shaped rose garden in his yard. He was always giving friends a few blooms and I wanted to learn more about how to grow them. So, I joined the Tidewater Rose Society and the ARS in 1979. The rest as they say, is history! I have loved my time as an ARS Consulting rosarian (now Emeritus) and as an accredited Horticultural Judge.  You meet so many wonderful people and make lifelong friends as a rosarian. I have been honored to judge roses in England and Australia, and I served on the permanent panel of the Biltmore International Rose Trials.   I've written about gardening for about three decades in publications from Fine Gardening and Horticulture to my own award-winning blog, The Dirt Diaries.  I've also been blessed to have a wonderful professional career as a writer and broadcast producer. My interest in journalism started early, just like my love of roses. I was interviewing local celebrities at age 9, and snagged an exclusive interview with The Beatles in 1964 when they arrived in Miami to perform on the Ed Sullivan Show. I was 13 at the time, and star reporter of my junior high school newspaper.  Writing, roses, and of course, a wonderful family ... A combo that has made my life very sweet. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Revillaging + Grounding + Slowing down and being in connection to our environment and our community with Stevie Storck. Guest Bio: Stevie Storck is a professional interior designer turned author and mother of 2. After releasing a craft book and taking a pause from client design work during the pandemic, in 2022 Stevie made a career pivot to writing and hosting local in-person events around the concepts of slow decorating and soulful, seasonal living. At Imbolc, she held the first gathering of her Cross Quarter Club and released the issue of her Midseason Journal - the first of four seasonal collections of blog posts that will be featured on her website throughout this year. She is also in the initial planning phase of creating a course on Slow Decorating. And she is navigating all of this while primarily being a stay at home mom to her two small daughters. In this episode, Emily + Stevie discuss what the term re-villaging means, how life is cyclical, full of birth and death, and re-birth, and our businesses are no different. They discuss how focusing on creating a business that sustains the long term actually creates successful + abundant short-term results as well. Stevie describes how the pandemic + being a new mother forced her to slow down and she was able to experience the magic of watching her daughter discover the world around her. That coupled with her newfound love of gardening led her to want to live a slower, simpler pace of life being connected with the seasons of nature. This was the birth of her Cross Quarter Club. A club that meets seasonally throughout the year and includes a creative workshop, a sharing activity, as well as community building. As a former Interior Designer, Stevie shares about her course she is in the process of launching. She recognized that as a society we are conditioned by shows like HGTV to think decorating takes place as a massive overhaul in a short period of time, but that isn't a reality for the majority of the population. Her course will be designed to help you to discover your unique style, design your space and decorate your room, at your own pace with a realistic budget, and without the help of an interior designer. As a founding member of the WMNûp community, when Emily asked her what this community has done for her Stevie referred to it as the fertilizer that she was needing for her garden.
