Mike and Kenny review the animated adventure film Flow, spot and discuss the faith themes reflected in the Latvian film that won the 2025 Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film. Directed by Gints Zilbalodis, and taking over 5 years to make, Flow was made by using the free and open source software Blender.  Flow follows a cat, a capybara, a ring-tailed lemur, a secretary bird and a labrador retriever who find refuge together in a small boat following a massive flood that covers most of the land around them.  Praised for its wonderful and unique visuals and aninmation, Flow is able to communicate the story through the visuals and animal as well as other sound effects.  Flow is streaming on HBO Max. Faith Spotted: The use of a boat to usher animals safely through a sudden flood echoes that story of Noah and the Ark. In addition the story uses the road narrative to present a community gathered and working together despite differences to  survive amids great challenges and dangers. The different instincts and abilities of the animals serve to help them and the community survive. As with people of differeing nationalities, faiths, and cultures, the Christian faith calls for care of and for one another, and living into what unites, all peopel are children of God, rather than separates persons, nations, and faiths and communities.  All of the animals showed faith in taking the chance to get in the boat and leave their home and native areas. The cat shows the faith necessary to make changes that go against it's instinct to swim so as to catch fish for itself and provide for the other animals.  The boat is an early symbol for the work of the Church. Jesus often taught from or used boats in his ministry. Likewise the church is sent into the chaotic waters of a broken world to offer refuge, new hope, new life. Not mentioned in the episode but certainly a faith element is the presenation of the whale. Several times a whale appeared to save the cat, and later the other animals when their boat got caught up in trees. The Whale (great fish) was used as an insturment of God to rescue and deliver Jonah to the city of Nineveh, where his message of judgement inspired the city to repent, receive grace, and not be destroyed by God.  Depending on how one reads or interprets the film, there is a presenation of eternal, resurrection life, as well as an act of sacraficial love by two of the animals.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. The 2024 Super Bowl was the most-watched program in American television history with 123.4 million viewers. The House of Mouse let loose several bits of exciting news after their quarterly earnings call on February 7. Animation fans were surprised with the release of a teaser trailer for Moana 2, which will be in theaters in November. Bob Iger also announced that Zootopia 2 will release in 2025 and Frozen 3 and Toy Story 5 will drop in 2026. Fans of the recent Percy Jackson and the Olympians series officially received the news that season two has been greenlit. Disney is investing $1.5 billion Epic Games - known best for Fortnite. CEO Bob Iger explained that the goal is to create a gaming universe that features beloved characters from Disney's hottest franchises such as Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and more. And last - but never least - it was announced that Taylor Swift's concert film The Eras Tour will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning March 15.Last week we discussed the seemingly-rushed new Jurassic World movie, which had announced that its director would be David Leitch. But talks between Universal and Leith fell through and the director is no longer attached to the project.  In a surprising move, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences governing board announced a new category that will first be given away in 2026 - Best Achievement in Casting. It's been nearly 25 years since a new category was announced - the last one being Best Animated Feature Film in 2001. A joint statement from the Academy Casting Director Branch governors expressed appreciation for the acknowledgment and recognition for casting directors. Official rules will be announced in April 2025 and films of that year will be the first ones considered for the award.  Paramount released the first trailer for its limited series and Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off, Knuckles, starring Idris Elba in the lead voice acting role. The six episode show will debut on Paramount+ on April 26. This March, Marvel Comics will release a prelude comic for the X-Men ‘97 animated show. The first issue features a wraparound cover by Russell Dauterman. The limited series will be four issues long. Celine Song is reuniting with A24 for her second feature film following her Best Picture directorial debut Past Lives. The new film, titled Materialists, is described as a romantic comedy with Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans in early talks to star. Sony is shutting down its Funimation app and moving subscribers over to Crunchyroll, but the move does not include their already purchased content. Seven Star Wars comics will feature variant covers featuring some of the women of the galaxy far, far away for Women's History Month in March. HBO is developing an Aegon's Conquest Game of Thrones series, which will serve as a prequel to House of the Dragon. Mattson Tomlin, who wrote parts of Matt Reeves' The Batman and is co-writing the upcoming sequel, will write the series. Michael Chaves, who has directed previous installments in The Conjuring franchise, including 2021's The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun II is in negotiations to direct what is being eyed as the fourth and final outing in the franchise currently under the working titled The Conjuring 4. After being saved from a tax break death at Warner Bros., the John Cena and Lana Condor movie, Coyote Vs Acme is officially being shelved forever. Although Warner Brothers did attempt to shop the film to other studios including Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount, their asking price of between $75 and $80 million for the film was too high to attract a buyer. Wicked author Gregory Maguire will release a new prequel titled Elphie: A Wicked Childhood on October 1. Maguire has written eight Oz-inspired books.

In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing FROZEN (2013), which you can find for streaming on Disney+.  Written and directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and loosely based off Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen," the film follows sisters, Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel) who from tragedy grow apart but rediscover the other after their parents deaths and as Elsa is to be crowned the new Queen of Arendelle.  Things go wrong and Elsa flees but not before casting an eternal winter on the land.  Anna, now having a better understanding of her sister, chases after her to let her know that she isn't alone and that together they will fix things.  Will Anna get to Elsa in time and convince her that together they are stronger?  Fantastic voice acting, a remarkable soundtrack, a strong story and stunning visuals make this one of Disney's new classics and rightly so.  This film was a winner for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year and Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song at the 2014 Academy Awards.  The film clocks in at 1 h and 42 m and is rated PG.  Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. Coraline  is a dark fantasy horror children's novel by British author Neil Gaiman. Gaiman started writing Coraline in 1990, and it was published in 2002 by Bloomsbury and HarperCollins. It was awarded the 2003 Hugo Award for Best Novella, the 2003 Nebula Award for Best Novel, and the 2002 Bram Stoker Award for Best Work for Young Readers. The Guardian ranked Coraline #82 in its list of 100 Best Books of the 21st Century. It was adapted as a 2009 stop-motion animated film, directed by Henry Selick under the same name.   Coraline is a 2009 American stop-motion animated dark fantasy horror film written and directed by Henry Selick and based on Neil Gaiman's novella of the same name. Produced by Laika as the studio's first feature film, it features the voice talents of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, Keith David, John Hodgman, Robert Bailey Jr., and Ian McShane. The film tells the story of its titular character discovering an idealized parallel universe behind a secret door in her new home, unaware that it contains a dark and sinister secret.   Just as Gaiman was finishing his novella in 2002, he met Selick and invited him to make a film adaptation, as Gaiman was a fan of Selick's The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. When Selick thought that a direct adaptation would lead to "maybe a 47-minute movie", the screenplay had some expansions, like the introduction of Wybie, who was not present in the original novel. Selick invited Japanese illustrator Tadahiro Uesugi to become the concept artist upon discovering his work when looking for a design away from that of most animation. His biggest influences were on the colour palette, which was muted in reality and more colourful in the Other World, similar to The Wizard of Oz. To capture stereoscopy for the 3D release, the animators shot each frame from two slightly apart camera positions. Production of the stop-motion animation feature took place at a warehouse in Hillsboro, Oregon. Bruno Coulais composed the film's musical score.   The film was theatrically released in the United States on February 6, 2009 by Focus Features after a world premiere at the Portland International Film Festival on February 5, and received critical acclaim. The film grossed $16.85 million during its opening weekend, ranking third at the box office, and by the end of its run had grossed over $124 million worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing stop-motion film of all time after Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The film won Annie Awards for Best Music in an Animated Feature Production, Best Character Design in an Animated Feature Production and Best Production Design in an Animated Feature Production and received nominations for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and a Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film. It has since developed a cult following in the years since its release.   Opening Credits; Introduction (1.20); Background History (9.33); Coraline Plot Synopsis (10.37); Book Thoughts (12.26); Let's Rate (31.40); Introducing a Film (33.14); Coraline Film Trailer (36.35); Lights, Camera, Action (38.55); How Many Stars (1:00.24); End Credits (1:02.03); Closing Credits (1:03.30)   Opening Credits– Epidemic Sound – Copyright . Have you ever wondered what it is like screenwriting inside the Marvel and Studio machine? Wonder no further, today we have screenwriter and director Joe Cornish. Joe was one of the writer's on Marvel's Ant-Man. The English comedian and filmmaker burst onto the scene in 2011 with his very successful film directorial debut, Attack The Block, starring John Boyega, who played Moses, a low-level crook, teenage gang leader, an orphan looking for respect around the block. The British sci-fi comedy horror film centers on a teenage street gang who have to defend themselves and their block from predatory alien invaders on Guy Fawkes Night.Cornish and his comedy partner, Adam Buxton form the successful duo, Adam & Joe an ironic pop culture sketch show which gained a lot of success in the UK alongside Cornish's long-term work in the UK TV entertainment industry. In 2011 he joined iconic directors, Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg as a writer for the screenplay and story for the 3D animated action-adventure film, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn --- co-written alongside Edgar Wright and Steven Moffat.Intrepid reporter Tintin and Captain Haddock set off on a treasure hunt for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock's ancestor. This $135 million budget film grossed $374 million at the box office and received a plethora of nominations including Oscars for Best Original Score, a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film, two BAFTA nominations for Best Animated Film and Best Special Visual Effects.Cornish co-wrote the screenplay for the Marvel Comic character, Ant-Man, along with Wright, Adam McKay, and Paul Rudd in 2015.Rudd, starring as Ant-Man is armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Similar to most Marvel Studio movies, the film carried a big budget of $169.3 million and grossed $519.3 million. His latest film, The Kid Who Would Be King (2019), which was written undirected by Cornish, joins a band of kids who embarks on an epic quest to thwart a medieval menace.Joe honestly, was extremely forthcoming and transparent about a lot of things; like what really happened behind the scenes on Ant-Man and what it's like to write inside the Marvel machine, working with filmmaking legends like Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. And we also discuss his craft, how he approaches screenwriting and directing, and much more.Enjoy this conversation with Joe Cornish.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are discovering the true meaning of the holiday season. We watched the 2019 film from Sergio Pablos, Klaus. If there's a better Santa Claus origin story, then one, I don't know what it could be, and two, I don't want to hear about it. This film has given me everything I could possibly need, thank you very much. The real question is why didn't this film win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film? We loved Toy Story 4—heck, we even talked about it in our inaugural episode—but was that one better than this masterpiece? Survey says, NO.Regardless, Klaus is a film with the canny ability to warm just about anybody's heart. Even a Grinch's cold insides and that's a damn hard thing to do. That's not even to mention the gorgeous animation. This film is a feat for the eyes and a warming salve for the heart. In this episode, our host Anna Smith makes a foray into an animated comedy featuring a robot apocalypse full of "delicious sight gags, absurd one-liners and deliriously silly set-pieces" - in the words of our guest, Catherine Bray. Computer-animated science fiction film The Mitchells vs The Machines, nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the British Academy Film Awards and at the Oscars this year, it is the first mainstream animated feature that has a queer heroine at its heart. Katie Mitchell is a feisty teen and aspiring filmmaker whose road trip with her quirky, dysfunctional family of outsiders is interrupted by an army of robots who try to capture all of humanity. They are led by evil AI genius PAL, an ‘Alexa' or ‘Siri' equivalent gone rogue, voiced by Olivia Colman. It's a wild ride and a thought-provoking satire on our over-reliance on technology. First up Anna talks to Abbi Jacobson, who does a brilliant job of voicing Katie, our young protagonist. Abbi previously co-created and co-starred in the TV series Broad City. They are joined by the production designer and lead character designer for The Mitchells vs The Machines, Lindsey Olivares. This conversation on Girls On Film is the first time the two co-creators of the character Katie talk to each other about their work. Next up Anna talks to film critic Catherine Bray about her take on the film's fabulous feminist sensibility. The Mitchells vs The Machines is available now on Netflix. In early 2021, Centrum hosted award-winning director, writer, and story artist, Brenda Chapman for a month-long residency. A few months later, Michelle Hagewood catches up with Chapman to revisit conversations started over that residency. Chapman reflects on the ups and downs of her long career at Disney, Dreamworks, and Pixar and shares her early influences and the threads that connect to her newest projects and endeavors. Brenda Chapman started her career as a story artist at Walt Disney Feature Animation in 1987, where she worked on several animated films including The Little Mermaid, and the Oscar nominated Beauty and the Beast. Chapman was the story supervisor on the original The Lion King, for which she won ASIFA’s Annie Award. She then helped launch DreamWorks Animation Studios, and co-directed the 1998 release of the Oscar winning Prince of Egypt. Chapman was the first woman to direct an animated feature for a major Hollywood studio. Joining Pixar Animation Studios in September 2003, Chapman created, wrote and directed Brave – inspired by her relationship with her daughter - for which she was the first woman to win an Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film of 2012. Her first live-action film, Come Away, starring David Oyelowo and Angelina Jolie, premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Chapman and her husband, filmmaker Kevin Lima (Enchanted, Disney’s Tarzan, A Goofy Movie), created ‘Twas Entertainment, which focuses on family entertainment. Currently, Chapman is writing a feature script for Gutsy Animations UK, executive producing on projects for ‘Twas, as well as working on a novel, a memoir and a children’s book.

You guys better get ready for a hell of a ride because our guest today brought a great conversation. We have accomplished screenwriter and director Joe Cornish on the show today. The English comedian and filmmaker burst onto the scene in 2011 with his very successful film directorial debut, Attack The Block, starring John Boyega, who played Moses, a low-level crook, teenage gang leader, an orphan looking for respect around the block. The British sci-fi comedy horror film centers on a teenage street gang who have to defend themselves and their block from predatory alien invaders on Guy Fawkes Night. Commercially, the film did not perform as it was acclaimed critically. It is rated at 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, won the Audience Award for Best Film (Midnights) at SXSW 2011, and many other awards from all major film festivals that year.Cornish and his comedy partner, Adam Buxton form the successful duo, Adam & Joe an ironic pop culture sketch show which gained a lot of success in the UK alongside Cornish’s long-term work in the UK TV entertainment industry. This $135 million budget film grossed $374 million at the box office and received a plethora of nominations including Oscars for Best Original Score, a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film, two BAFTA nominations for Best Animated Film and Best Special Visual Effects.Cornish co-wrote the screenplay for the Marvel Comic character, Ant-Man, along with Wright, Adam McKay, and Paul Rudd in 2015. Rudd, starring as Ant-Man is armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.  Similar to most Marvel Studio movies, the film carried a big budget of $169.3 million and grossed $519.3 million. His latest film, The Kid Who Would Be King (2019), which I highly recommend everybody to watch, joins a band of kids who embarks on an epic quest to thwart a medieval menace.Joe honestly, was extremely forthcoming and transparent about a lot of things; like what happened behind the scenes of Ant-Man and what it's like to write inside the Marvel machine. And we also discuss his craft, how he is as a director, how he likes to approach his writing and many more.Enjoy this conversation with Joe Cornish.

Pixar's twenty-third film, Soul (Disney+), offers glimpses into the afterlife and the nature of the soul, not as an academic presentation on metaphysics or theology, but to tell a story about life. Nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature Film, there's no doubt that Soul is a fun, compelling film, beautifully scored and animated, and voiced by excellent talent (such as Jamie Foxx as Joe and Tina Fey as 22). Christian readers are sure to have had a few red flags raised, theologically speaking, leading to several questions. Joe is almost dead, but he can return to his body? The afterlife made a mistake? Souls exist before they are born? Humans can visit celestial realms via meditation? Does God exist or do anything in this fictional world? Parents may be especially alarmed, unsure of how to assess Soul, or not sure if their children should even be allowed to view it. In the end, Soul is about life and the wonderful possibilities and experiences it holds for each of us. There is more to life than achieving our dreams. And biblically Christians are to live our lives, glorifying God in what we do. Soul is not crafted to teach us the minutiae of eschatology, including what happens when we die. Instead, it focuses on the value of life and making the most of the time we have. Ultimately, Soul is a life-affirming story, celebrating the promise that life holds. For the Christian, made in God's image, we have the potential for what we paradoxically may term ordinary greatness. Our lives may seem ordinary, but we are destined for royalty as children of God. Yes, this life can be heartbreaking and difficult, but it also holds so much more that is good and true and holy. This Postmodern Realities episode is a conversation with Journal author Robert Velarde about his online-exclusive article, “Has Pixar Lost Its Soul? :Assessing an Animated Journey to the Afterlife and Back”. https://www.equip.org/article/has-pixar-lost-its-soul-assessing-an-animated-journey-to-the-afterlife-and-back/Please note this article will be fully accessible by the public in the future, to get early access to read it now, please see our FAQ section on Early Access to Online-Exclusive Articles by clicking here. https://www.equip.org/early-access-to-online-exclusive-articles-faqs/We'd also like to invite you to subscribe to the Journal. Charlie, Carrie, and Paul are children displaced from London by German bombings and are put into the reluctant care of Miss Eglantine Price - an apprentice witch learning her craft via a correspondence course.○ The children find out Miss Price’s secret when they see her flying on a broom and attempt to blackmail her. Miss Price buys their secrecy with a transportation spell that allows their bed to travel anywhere in the world and explains that she is trying to use her powers to end the war. However, in a bit of an ironic twist, it appears as though the war has put a premature end to her course. Still determined to use magic to end the war, Miss Price and the children take the bed to London to find her teacher, Professor Emelius Browne. They find Mr. Browne, but it turns out that he is nothing but a street magician turned con-artist who had no idea that his “spells” actually work. When Miss Price asks about the spells, he says he got all of them from a book he found - but he doesn’t have the entire book.Delighted at the prospect of his spells actually working and the idea of a duo performing act starring himself and Miss Price, Mr. Browne leads the group to the Portobello Road marketplace in hopes of finding the rest of the book - in their search they come across the mysterious criminal the Bookman - who has the other half of the book, which reveals that the spell is written on a medallion on the mystical Island of Naboombu. Our group takes the bed to Naboombu and meet the King - who is wearing the sought-after medallion and is very upset that they don’t have a referee for their soccer match. Mr. Browne agrees to referee the match and attempts to use the opportunity to get a better look at the medallion. After a chaotic soccer match, the group manages to retrieve the spell and return to England. The “substitutiary locomotion” spell makes inanimate objects move in a lifelife way, and as the group returns and finds a Nazi invasion in England, Miss Price uses the spell to create an army of inanimate objects and fend off the Nazis. Afterward, she is pleased with her success, but has decided to give up magic and continue looking after the children. For our first episode of 2019 we wanted to review Sony's "Into The Spider-Verse" which was a stunning way to end a brilliant year for comic-related film and television. The film also started 2019 by winning the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film and all while receiving global praise for an interesting, exciting new look at a character we already know so much about. It's an all-star cast, a heart-felt script and a wonderful reminder of why we all love Spider-Man so much no matter who happens to be under the mask.

节目组:The Screen Age 荧屏时代 节目名称:WALL-EY: Hello, everyone. Long time no see, I'm your friend Mico. Alice, I have a question, what do you think about environment like after 700 years?F: Let me see. I think air won't be clear and pollutions will get worse.Y: Have you ever think we during that period, we can't live in the Earth.F: Crazy. How do you say that?Y: What we will talk today is about this.B: In 2,700 AD, the Earth have been became a huge landfill by human's destruction. So human beings have to left away from the Earth because the inhospitable environment, and people could only move to other planets, and then commission robots to clean up the company until the earth's environmental system renew to achieve ecological balance.I: After the mankind left, the garbage cleaners sent the robot WALL-E to the Earth in batches and gave them the only command - the garbage dispenser. However, as time goes by, the robots broke one by one, and finally the only one left, continually work at this forgotten corner.B: Blink of an eye on the past few hundred years, desolateness and loneliness become to a timeless theme to him. However, a sudden spacecraft broke the peace here, it also brought a full-time search mission robot Eve, when WALL-E experienced hundreds of years of loneliness, as he saw another robot, he fall in love with her, I: After search, Eve found a green plant and brought it to the spacecraft in outer space. WALL-E followed Eve, launched a crossing through the whole Milky Way galaxy, start an exciting and imaginative fantasy journey. After several twists and turns, mankind eventually returned to Earth and began to transform the earth's ecological environment.A: WALL-E is a very classic Disney movie. It is a movie full of entertaining, thrilling, moving and satisfying. It makes a refreshing change from the 'go green' campaigns we're all so used to. The movie gives robots emotion like human beings. The robots even save the earth eventually.L: Yep, it is actually a creative movie. The characters suit me fine. Thumbs up for Wall-E, he is such a cute and adorable robot, you will fall in love with him immediately, so does EVE. I am also impressed by their sweet love. My heart feels warm when they holding each other's hands.A: WALL-E is also a film with practical significance. In the past decades, environmental pollution is becoming more and more serious. The earth is in a very dangerous situation. To some degree, the movie warns people to protect the earth. L: In deed, WALL-E is a successful movie. It wins one Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film in 2009. Besides, it gains another 87 wins and 85 nominations.A: WALL•E is directed by Andrew Stanton. He was educated at The California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. And, where he studied character animation there. I: After graduation, Stanton began working as a writer on the TV series Mighty Mouse, the New Adventures . In 1990, he became only the second animator and ninth employee to join Pixar Animation Studios.A: He went on to write and direct such worldwide hits as A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo and and WALL•E , the latter two both won Oscars for Best Animated Feature. ApparentIy, Stanton is a great animator.Y: We should to protect our living environment, not only for ourselves but also for our inferiors.F: That's all for today's program. Ryan Coogler (Creed) has been tapped to direct Marvel's Black Panther. The movie will star Chadwick Boseman and Andy Serkis and is scheduled for a February 2018 release.
