Do you ever feel like you're just checking things off a list instead of truly living? That might be a sign you're caught in the productivity trap–the constant cycle of achievement without connection that only leads to burnout. When you think about checking boxes and meeting goals, do you feel the exhaustion mixed with that spark of excitement? As achievers and ambitious souls, we can bring meaning and creativity to our goals, but that same drive can easily turn into an addiction to achievement. In this episode, I share a nuanced view of productivity and how to understand that achievement isn't strictly good or bad. You can continue to achieve and be productive from a place of healthiness and wholeness, rather than exhaustion and that emptiness.Escaping the productivity trap isn't about doing less. It's about doing from a different state. Maybe a shorter task list is part of the solution, but true life alignment happens when your actions come from creativity and growth. Healthy productivity means shifting from a hustle-driven, adrenaline-fed way of producing to a more aligned, grounded, and truly fulfilling way of creating results. So ask yourself: What will be different when you can be more connected with who you are and your values? When your actions are guided by meaning, creativity, and the expansion of self, you become a stronger, brighter presence in the world. What you'll learnHow to celebrate your achievement instead of constantly chasing moreA personal story about how my addiction to achievement began alongside my desire for moreHow to recognize when your success starts to define your worthThe biological reason behind why we get stuck in the productivity trapHow self-connection and life alignment help you guide your actions with meaning rather than pressureJoin me on October 30th, 2025 for a live workshop on the productivity trap. If you feel burned out and exhausted, like you're always doing but it's never enough, or that something is missing and you're not in alignment, this is for you. We live in an age where truth twists into confusion, opinion drowns out data, and it's increasingly difficult to figure out whose expertise we can trust.Where did our mistrust in expertise come from? Its roots stretch back to deliberate misinformation campaigns beginning in the 1950s spread by the likes of Big Tobacco, Big Oil, and conservative church movements. Then social media poured gasoline on the fire, accelerating the spread of misinformation and making sowing division highly profitable.Misinformation campaigns take advantage of our brains' natural tendency to protect the familiar and mistrust outgroups. And they capitalize on the very real betrayals people have experienced at the hands of corporations, governments, schools, and healthcare systems. Our challenge now isn't just knowing the facts, it's interrogating our own beliefs, asking where our evidence comes from, and resisting the pull of certainty. As leaders, we need to discern who we give our attention to, practice critical thinking, resist manufactured controversy, and platform voices committed to both truth and connection.Today's guest is a neuroscientist and author of Why Brains Need Friends, who works to make science accessible, relational, and rooted in respect. He doesn't focus on winning arguments or shaming people into submission. He focuses on bridging divides, building trust, and reminding us that our brains–and our lives–are wired for connection.Ben Rein, PhD is an award-winning neuroscientist and science communicator. He serves as the Chief Science Officer of the Mind Science Foundation, an Adjunct Lecturer at Stanford University, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY Buffalo. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed papers on the neuroscience of social behavior, and is the author of Why Brains Need Friends: The Neuroscience of Social Connection. In addition, Rein educates an audience of more than 1 million social media followers and has been featured on outlets including Entertainment Tonight, Good Morning America and StarTalk with Neil DeGrasse Tyson. He has received awards for his science communication from the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, the Society for Neuroscience, and elsewhere.Listen to the full episode to hear:How an especially vivid nightmare redirected Ben's path to neuroscienceWhy the division and isolation of modern life is so bad for our brains and overall healthHow engaging with strangers isn't as awkward as we often think it is, and why we should do it moreHow small social interactions build our sense of belonging, community, and wellbeingWhy we need to recognize and then override our gut reactions to those we perceive as belonging to outgroupsHow social media sound bites vastly oversimplify the complex and unknown systems in our brainsWhy Ben's primary mission to to help people understand the value of looking to data and evidence rather than personalities and experiencesWhy we all have to get better at fact-checking and questioning why we're ready to believe somethingLearn more about Dr. Ben Rein:WebsiteInstagram: @dr.benreinWhy Brains Need Friends: The Neuroscience of Social ConnectionLearn more about Rebecca:rebeccaching.comWork With RebeccaThe Unburdened Leader on SubstackSign up for the weekly Unburdened Leader EmailResources:Golden Holocaust: Origins of the Cigarette Catastrophe and the Case for Abolition, Robert N Proctor"Assessing ExxonMobil's climate change communications (1977–2014),” Geoffrey Supran and Naomi Oreskes, 2017 Environmental Research Letters 12 084019The Creationists: From Scientific Creationism to Intelligent Design, Ronald L. What if booking out isn't your goal but you still want to increase your revenue?Or what if you can't technically "book out" because you're an agency owner or service provider who already has team members or subcontractors that allow you to take on as many clients as you want? For some of my clients, booking out looks like raising their prices so they can double their profit without adding more calls or client delivery to their calendar. For others, it's streamlining their team and capacity to serve more clients. The truth is, booking out can look different for everyone — and it doesn't have to mean exhaustion, over-delivery, or delivering offers that no longer fit your future vision. In this episode, I'm sharing four ways Thought Leadership Marketing will help you increase your income — without tripling your workload. These are the exact pathways my Reclamation clients have used to move from six to multi-six figures while staying aligned with the business they actually want to run.✨ In this episode, I'll share:Why raising your prices isn't just about believing you're worth moreHow third-party credibility builds trust so clients say yes fasterWhy org contracts are more accessible than you thinkThe connection between thought leadership, retention, and referralsHow paid speaking and workshops open doors to higher-ticket opportunitiesAnd because women of color are naturally thought leaders because we created what we once needed, Thought Leadership Marketing is available to you now. And it can help you make 6 to multiple six figures and beyond while remaining true to your values and making a deep impact. And that's exactly what I'll be teaching at my upcoming workshop on Oct 1st: Make 6 to Multi-6 Figures While Posting Less Through Thought Leadership Marketing Register here for the workshopLearn more about Reclamation Mastermind

What if the thing you've been trying to fix your whole life isn't actually the thing that needs fixing? At 38, Patty Cabot began a journey that would unravel decades of emotional pain, body image struggles, and silence surrounding childhood trauma. In this raw and inspiring conversation, Patty shares how deep inner work—not dieting—finally brought her peace, perspective, and a surprising path to love. If you've ever felt stuck or wondered why certain patterns keep repeating, this episode offers powerful insight into healing, self-trust, and reclaiming your story.Guest Bio Beginning in her teens, Patty Cabot battled drastic weight fluctuations. Desperate to break the cycle and thinking it was what prevented her from meeting men, in her late 30s Patty embarked on a therapeutic journey that led to her unresolved childhood sexual abuse. Over 12 years she worked with her therapist and EMDR, a chiropractor to release trapped “fight or flight” responses, a sex therapist and attended group therapy for sexual abuse. Patty published Not That Girl Anymore, a memoir about the alternative therapies she explored in the hopes of undoing the ruin within to claim the happiness she – and everyone else struggling with trauma – deserves.Turning 40 and finding the wound beneath the weightWhat if the thing you've been battling for decades - your weight, your relationships, your shame - was never the real issue? This week's guest, Patty Cabot, spent 20 years trapped in a cycle of yo-yo dieting, self-doubt, and emotional isolation before a turning point at 38 led her to finally confront the childhood trauma she thought she had long since buried and forgotten about. Through therapy, unconventional healing modalities, and a fierce determination to find love and wholeness, Patty transformed her life from the inside out. In this episode, you'll hear about:*Trigger warning* discussion of childhood sexual abuse; no detailsHow a cycle of weight loss and gain led Patty to uncover deeper unresolved traumaThe transformative power of EMDR therapy and what it taught her about her pastWhy anger was the only emotion she could access, and how she learned to feel moreHow vulnerability became a gateway to healing and connectionThe role running (literally!) played in finding love and confidenceWhy publishing her book helped lift the final layer of shameThe profound insight: “it's not your shame, and it's not your secret to keep”Patty Cabot's midlife transition is a powerful example of what's possible when we stop treating the symptom and start addressing the root cause. After decades of believing her weight and romantic struggles were the problem, Patty finally faced her childhood trauma head-on, peeling back the layers of self-protection to rediscover her worth and capacity for love. Her healing wasn't linear, but it was bold, and in the process, she transformed shame into self-acceptance and silence into storytelling. Today, she's helping others believe that healing is not only possible—it's worth it.If you enjoyed this episode, please rate, follow, and share The Big Four Oh wherever you listen to podcasts.
