Sponsored by Case IH: https://www.caseih.com/The VINE: https://thevine.io/Farmhand Ventures: https://www.farmhandventures.com/The Reservoir: https://www.reservoir.co/F3 Innovate: https://www.f3innovate.org/Today you'll hear from three people: Hannah Johnson, Connie Bowen, and Danny Bernstein. Hannah is the Industry Lead for The VINE at UC Ag and Natural Resources. Connie is the founding general partner at Farmhand Ventures who works with The VINE. Danny is CEO and managing partner at Reservoir, which includes Reservoir Ventures, and nonprofit incubators, Reservoir Farms & Labs, which is what he'll be talking about today. I attended FIRA-USA this past October to try to better understand what's happening in ag robotics and automation. What I didn't expect was to see some really fascinating public-private partnership efforts that I think fill some real needs in agriculture innovation. But as luck would have it, that's what happened, and so I wanted to put together this episode to highlight it. I think this type of work is critical. Running a farm, doing industry-leading research, growing a startup, all of these things are all-consuming tasks. It really is important to build the connective tissue to empower and fully enable new and lasting innovations in agtech. Brought to you by Case IH: Case IH designs, engineers and produces cutting-edge farm equipment based on a comprehensive understanding of farmers' needs, wants and challenges, integrating these insights into their development and manufacturing. For example, take their Model Year 25 Magnum tractor. The new Magnum is purposefully designed to answer farmers' needs in every design and engineering choice. Improved horsepower for pulling heavier loads, faster. Bundled, integrated and ready-to-go precision tech for greater accuracy in the field. And a transmission farmers can tweak for improved control and performance in different tasks. That kind of design thinking is exactly where the future of ag is headed, and that's why you'll be hearing me talk to the folks at Case IH at different points throughout this quarter about what they do and how they're working to push the ag forward.

Back in 2019 to celebrate graduating from college and getting into the Master's program, Hannah and her friend Jamie used Costco travel to plan a trip. They paid one price for a round trip flight, a hotel stay in both Barcelona and Madrid as well as transportation to and from the airports. The trip was for 8 days! Barcelona: Stayed at the NH Collection Barcelona Podium HotelCustoms was really easy in Barcelona, and they made it there pretty quickly. Immediately after putting their luggage in the hotel room, went on a double decker bus tour of the city-this was a good idea because Hannah says they had some things planned but let the bus tour tell them where they would want to go after that.At night they went to Fonta Magica de Montjuïc and saw the coolest fountain and light show! After that they walked down to the restaurants to find some food and ended up at a rooftop bar in a hotel. Great drinks and food! It's called 173 Rooftop Terrace Tapas Bar.The next day they went to see the prize of Barcelona, the Sagadra Familia Basilica. This thing is MASSIVE. They went inside and looked at all the stained glass and got to go up in one of the turrets! She says it was scary and breathtaking. After this they ate lunch at a cute spot nearby called Casa Angela where she had the best croquetas and patatas bravas! After that they went to Parque Guell- which is one of Antoni Gaudi's most famous architecture works. It's like a botanical garden meets a surrealist painting. It is made up of interesting buildings and features built into the side of a mountain.Montserrat Monastery They then took a train from Barcelona to a sketchy little outpost station in the middle of the country. Hannah says they then took the scariest rickety cable car ride of her life up the mountain. It opens up at the top where you can see the craggy rocks of the mountainside. This area is a beautiful monastery that is built into the side of the mountain. It is known for having a black Madonna carved in the 12th century-known as “the dark one, our lady of Montserrat." It survived the storming of the abbey during the Spanish civil war. There are tons of things to do in this area: fun hikes, a few cafes, outside viewing of the living quarters of the monks and nuns, walking around the gardens with the holy water fountains, and listening to the choir and organ inside the nave.Madrid NH Collection Madrid AbascalThe next portion of the trip was Madrid! They took the train from Barcelona to Madrid, and had lunch service on the way, lots of fields, rural areas, not a lot of houses or villages but we saw a lot of farms, lots of pigs-Spain is known for their ham.On their first day in Madrid they went to the Royal Palace and got to see all of the rooms. Lots of history-over 3000 rooms, a grand staircase, beautiful art including “Salome with the head of John the Baptist”, and the royal armory! After the palace they explored more of the city. Text next day, went to the Del Prado Museum which is the classical art museum in Madrid-they got to see so many baroque paintings and Hannah's favorite painting Las Meninas by Diego Velasquez which is one of the most analyzed paintings ever. The next day they went to the modern art museum called the Reina Sofia—and saw the Picasso and Dali exhibits! Because it was a rainy day they spent a lot of time there. For almost every dinner in Madrid they went to this little tapas bar right down the road from the hotel because it was so good!! Hannah says she had ropa vieja empanadas and paella that was to DIE for-this place is called La Gabinoteca.Toledo Aka Castillo La Mancha They took the train from Madrid into the country and stopped at yet another sketchy outpost station! Toledo is Medieval walled city on top of a mountain that is surrounded by the Tagus river on three sides. It is the oldest city in Spain and built pre-Roman empire but captured by the Visigoth Kingdom after the fall of the Roman Empire in like the 5th Century. Known for being the “City of the Three Cultures” where there are heavy influences of Christians, Muslims and Jews throughout history. In the city you can still see mosques, cathedrals, and synagogues from over the centuries that hold art that is culturally and historically significant to those religions.Hannah and Jamie stopped at McDonalds and had some interesting combos—they have eggs on some of the sandwiches, and you can get just plain cherry tomatoes as a side. Top sites to see: Cathedral de Toledo-13 century cathedral Alcazar de Toldeo- the fortress during the Spanish Civil War, Military MuseumSinagoga Santa Maria La Blanca- one of two of the twelve surviving original synagogues in ToledoIglesia de Santo Tome-home of El Greco's most famous work: “the burial of the count of Orgaz”

Problems and pessimism tend to overwhelm the daily news cycle. What gets less attention are the incredible solutions governments and organizations have devised to solve some of the world's most pressing issues. That's why Senior Fellow and Editor-in-Chief of The Catalyst: A Journal of Ideas from the Bush Institute Jonathan Tepperman set out to release an issue dedicated entirely to exploring solutions to problems around the globe called The Fix. The Bush Institute's Chris Walsh and Hannah Johnson authored pieces for the issue, and they joined Jonathan and host Andrew Kaufmann to discuss success stories and the lessons we can all learn on working across divisions — and even what we can learn from the Barbie movie on this episode of The Strategerist After Hours presented by the George W. This week Kat (@kat.defatta) is bringing one of her oldest and best friends on the show, Hannah Johnson (@hanfran5). Hannah is someone who has always just gone for it- whether it be a job, relationship, or just a new experience. She left a stable and (what appeared to be) predictable life after college for a box full of unknowns and moved to L.A. without a job or a clue how she would get one. She's someone who has learned how to appreciate the goodness of what she has even in the midst of not getting what she thinks she wants. Together, Kat and Hannah talk about how to just "do the thing" and leave behind what is expected of you and what society says about "doing it right". And hey, maybe you don't need to quit your stable job and move to Bali. . . but you may need to change up your schedule or reevaluate if the things you feel like you're missing out on are really things you care about. This episode marks the end of an intentional four-episode focus on identity. Last week, I interviewed Grant Johnson about his dream to be a jet pilot and how he wrapped up his identity in what he hoped would be his military career. Today you're going to hear from his wife, LT Hannah Johnson, USN, as she talks about her struggles with spiritual perfectionism, and as she says, the fear of being a fraud or being found out. I started this episode with a short passage from Paul Tripp's devotional book “New Morning Mercies.” Here's what trip has to say about identity, and I hope it's an encouragement to you: “No need to search for myself. No need to grasp for meaning for my life or purpose for what I do. No need to hope for inner peace, that sense of wellbeing for which every heart longs. No need to hope that someone or something will make me happy or give me joy. I no longer need any of these things because grace has connected me to you, and you have named me your child.” As you listen to Hannah's story of military life at the intersection of faith, family, and profession, here are a few questions to ponder: Have you ever asked yourself this question about your calling to the military: “God must not have called me to this because this is impossible and I don't belong here”? How did you work through the doubts? When it comes to your identity, if you had to give an elevator speech on who you are, how would you respond? Hannah said that she struggled with thinking that in order to glorify God, she had to “have it all together and get it all right.” Have you struggled with similar spiritual perfectionism? In what way? Fear of failure or of being seen as a fraud is a label that Hannah says she has struggled with during her military career. What fears are defining you right now? How can your identity in Christ help you combat those fears? Colossians 3:17 (and 3:23-24) are Scripture passages that Hannah says have been pivotal in her understanding of identity and also how that works itself out in her purpose. What Scripture references are your “go-to” verses in your understanding of your identity in Christ?

Dr. Lisa and Hannah are on a mission to help mamas and babies alike so that moms who, for multiple factors, cannot produce breast milk naturally, have an alternative for breast milk if that is what they desire over baby formula. A few years ago, when more and more data started coming out about the importance of specific diet for the tiniest babies, think premature babies with a very low birth weight (under three pounds) whose mothers were unable to lactate due to stress, premature birth, and various factors, donor breast milk was a safe and good alternative. While donor breast milk may lack a bit of the biological antibodies of biological mother's own milk, but it is still full of good nutrition. It is the preferred alternative to feeding formula to tiny premature baby as it could lead to life-threatening health complications. Breastmilk is full of healthy nutrients for the baby, be it your own or a donor's. For some reason, nowadays, a lot of women end up pumping and expressing their milk. Some benefits of feeding your baby breastmilk (yours or a donors), expressed, breastfed, or pumped include: A reduction in infectious diseases as they grow older. Decreased rates of ear infections and bloodstream infections, pneumonia urinary tract infection, meningitis, diarrhea, etc. It also decreases the rate of some other inflammatory diseases, even certain types of cancer. Here are a few takeaways from today's episode:
Oma Episode Part II includes an interview with Art for the Journey's (AFJ) Executive Director, Cindy Paullin, and VCU's OT graduate student, Hannah Johnson. This episode complements the first part of the OMA episode series by exploring the evolution of Art for the Journey through its inception, which began as a non-profit, volunteer organization, until today, as it perseveres through the obstacles the pandemic has presented. It explains how Opening Minds through Art (OMA) was added to AFJ's programs and the impact that it has had on their development and subsequent programs. Art for the Journey overcomes barriers and transforms lives through creative expression, with a special focus on people who do not normally have access to such experiences. They provide a range of art programs aimed at bringing a sense of wellbeing and even healing within an environment of personal engagement, support, and celebration. AFJ provides instruction and art-making experiences to women in prison, low income elderly, at-risk children, children with Juvenile Diabetes, older adults with dementia and Alzheimer's, and veterans suffering PTSD and combat-related disabilities. While AFJ was not created by OT's, much of what they do in their work is very relatable to the field of OT and it's practiced. In this episode, we compare and contrast some of these similarities and bring light to the many ways in which this program is helping numerous populations of the community. Hannah Johnson discusses her experience completing her doctoral capstone project in response to the pandemic and a changing schedule to the curriculum and how she incorporated her OT knowledge into program development with AFJ. If you have any questions about this episode, AFJ, or would just like to connect, feel free to reach out to the student influencers by email or text!" Hello everyone and thanks for checking out my YouTube channel and Podcast "The Study of Antiquity and the Middle Ages." In this awesome presentation Dr. Jacob Lackner explains Medieval Antisemitism and the differences between it and Anti-Judaism, we will begin n Antiquity and then expand to explain events, laws, movements and negative stereotypes in the Middle Ages. In this lecture we see how in many ways Medieval Antisemitism provided the foundation for future acts of antisemitism and in many cases we will also see a parallel with dark periods in our history such as the 20th Century and the Third Reich. Dr. Lackner is the first expert that I have hosted on the show and I was very thankful that he chose to dedicate his time to us so he could teach us about subjects involving the eras that we all love. Below is a list of reading materials recommended by Dr. Lackner and I actually own a few of these myself. On Medieval Anti-Semitism more broadly: Robert Chazan. Frustrated with where she was financially and wanting to improve her life Hannah Johnson went to a sales class where the instructor said, “No one has the right to tell you what you're worth.” Those words changed her mindset and her life. "It just seemed like we were always broke and I never understood why." She went from living paycheck to paycheck, worrying about whether or not she could afford to buy her daughter the next pair of shoes, to running multiple (profitable!) businesses including a non-profit. Hannah Johnson is a children and infant health advocate, a family nourishment speaker, a mom to 2 boys, and most importantly, a work in progress. She has a degree in business and a background in nutrition, strength training and physical fitness. While managing a household, being a wife and a mom, she found herself lost in what she was beyond those roles. With a deep understanding of what it means to nourish our bodies, having children made her realize exactly where that practice begins. So with two little human teachers at her side, she is diving deep into creating connection and education for parents that want to find high quality nourishment for their whole family (belly, body and brain) in the most convenient fashion. She is incredibly passionate about helping children get the absolute best start in life and empowering their parents to bring intentional guidance to raising resilient children.
