I'm so excited to to share this week's episode of the Talkhouse Podcast, which features a fascinating, deep yet kind of low-key conversation between two really talented people that you might not have expected to be paired up: Bob Odenkirk and Marcellus Hall. I'm guessing most people listening to this podcast will know who Odenkirk is. A longtime comedian and writer, he and his pal David Cross gifted the world some of the funniest TV ever created in Mr. Show With Bob And David, and if that was the only thing Odenkirk ever did, it'd be plenty. But of course the other really huge thing in his career is his portrayal of Saul Goodman on both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, two dramas that stand among some of the best TV ever. And I haven't even mentioned his books, the movies he's produced and directed, or the many things he's starred in. Without Bob, there would be no motivational speaker Matt Foley from SNL or any Tim and Eric Awesome Show. He's a legend, and he probably wouldn't want me saying that, which makes him a legend even more. Bob has also been a huge booster for things that he loves over the course of his career, including the aforementioned Tim and Eric plus things like the Birthday Boys and the unheralded movie Girlfriends Day, which he also stars in. And Bob has been a vocal fan of today's other guest, Marcellus Hall, for many years, too. Hall's music career goes back to the 1990s, when he was the frontman of the band Railroad Jerk, a clattering blues-punk band whose self-titled debut was one of the first albums ever released by Matador Records. Railroad Jerk is one of those bands that never quite hit it big, but those who saw them play live—I did once, in Madison Wisconsin—never forgot it. After that band broke up, Hall started another one, called White Hassle, and eventually started releasing albums under his own name while simultaneously enjoying a career as an illustrator—he's done a bunch of New Yorker covers and put out a really touching graphic novel a few years back called Kaleidoscope City. But this conversation was inspired by Hall's return to music after some years away. He just released a brand new album called I Will Never Let You Down. Here's the album's title track, which these guys chat about. In this lengthy and intimate conversation, which took place at Hall's New York apartment, he and Odenkirk start and end by talking about Jack Kerouac, and in between they go to a ton of interesting places. Sometimes these Talkhouse chats really feel like you're eavesdropping, and this is definitely one of those. They talk about Hall's work as well as Odenkirk's, and they dive into the notion that it gets harder as you get older to find that spark of inspiration. Odenkirk admits to some feelings of imposter syndrome, even after all of his success, and they both come across as guys who are still seeking, even after all these years. It's contemplative, but I think ultimately inspiring. This may be the last podcast you hear Odenkirk on for a while, as he's decided to stop saying “yes” to quite as many things as he did in the past. I love that, too. So get yourself some headphones and give this one your full attention—you won't regret it. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Marcellus Hall and Bob Odenkirk for chatting. "I Will Never Let You Down" Marcellus Hall has been doing so much, his resume it'll make you look at your resume and think What have I been doing? Let's back up: The Minnesota-born Marcellus Hall went to the Rhode Island school of design then moved to New York after graduating to form the band Railroad Jerk. Railroad Jerk put out four perfect albums for Matador, thought they recorded a fifth called Masterpiecemeal, that didn't come out but is available now on Bandcamp. After the band broke up, Hall formed White Hassle with Railroad Jerk's Dave Varenka, who were awesome and they put out a handful of brilliant albums like National Chain and Death of Song. After White Hassle called it a day in 2006, Hall put out phenomenal solo albums like The First Line, Afterglow and now his new one I Will Never Let You Down. But what about those ten years? You're probably still wondering. He's been illustrating. As an illustrator, Hall's work has appeared in The Atlantic, New York Magazine, Fortune and he's done several New Yorker covers. He did the weekly comic strip Bill Dogbreath that appeared in The Onion and Baltimore City paper, among others, and he illustrated books--lots of them, like Sherry North's Because You Are My Baby, Lee Bennet Hopkins' City I Love and Karma Wilson's The Cow Loves cookies. Keep in mind, this is a partial list. Another partial list: books that Hall wrote and illustrated, like Kaleidoscope City, Everyone Sleeps, Virtual Reality, and Multiplicity. As for his new album, it's a stunner. A breezy blend melodic muscle and musical finesse, this is an instant classic. Hall plays with a kind of freewheeling precision, and his songs are the kinds of songs you will carry with you for the rest of your life. Trust me. Have I ever let you down? Okay, maybe once or twice, but Marcellus Hall will never let you down. www.marcellushall.bandcamp.com www.marcellushall.com (http://www.marcellushall.com) www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

I love music and i listen to all different genre. Some time i download songs that i never really get a chance to play in a party. So why not just put it in a mix. When i'm riding in my car i tend to have these songs on blast. lol. Screw you and don't judge me. lol. I readily admit to being a pessimist over this year's crop of EDM offerings but my perspective has suddenly shifted.  After having kept the 2014 Catch-up on repeat and now wrapping up the second part to the Summer Hot Mess, I can honestly say there has been some really damn good music that's been released this year. Picking up where pt. 1 left off, the Summer Hot Mess pt. 2 relies heavily on current EDM smashes and several that will soon be.  Charli XCX makes a mid-summer bid with Boom Clap, a song that is already heating up at radio and will soon explode on the world's dance floors with the Cahill remix.  Paramore drops a little disco-pop on us with their latest Ain't It Funny, a personal favorite. The sleeper hit of the summer has got to go to Joywave's Tongues.  The original is a fun low-tech 80s throwback with a hilarious video to back it up.  The remixes by Sted-E & Hybrid Heights and DJ Laszlo take it to a whole new level.  Once those bouncy beats kick in, you're hooked in a loop that you won't get out of your head for days. Robin Thicke's Forever Love is a plea for forgiveness for sticking his dick in just about anything on two legs.  It's likely a smart move on his part to help prevent his ex from bleeding him financially, then again I digress.  Jennifer and Nicki make a show with their new offerings (both of which I'd cast a shoulder of ambivalence towards).  Capital Cities follows up their massive 2013 hit Safe and Sound with One Minute More, which is another excellent slice of summer electro-pop. We also have proven staples like Matthew Koma's Wasted, Rita Ora's I Will Never Let You Down and Calvin Harris' Summer.  You'll notice that R3hab, who has been cleansing his remixes lately with a more polished tone has remixed all three of these songs lending him more commercial cred, while still allowing him to burn the barn down with the same songs in his live performances.  A very smart move if you ask me. Cosmic Dawn's remix of Beyonce's XO is the perfect example of cell phones lighting up the night in a nice slow sway during a live performance.  Why his version was not pushed to radio still mystifies me.  Finally, DJ Taj created a mandatory mashup of Am I Wrong by Nico & Vinz.  To be honest, this is by far the best remix of this song I've heard so far.  Using piece's of Syn Coles remix of Find You by Zedd and Matthew Koma, DJ Taj manages to give this lilting summer smash some dance floor wings without demolishing the original. You can pick up a copy for free on his Facebook page here. The 2K14 Summer Edition for the circuit boys appears to be in great shape as I put the finishing touches on it.  I'll likely have those two sets out early this next week so I can take a much-needed break from the site.  I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far and has a fantastic weekend.  Until the next time …ENJOY! Summer is finally here! Pride season is always an exciting time of year to me, but this year I've been feeling an especially strong amount of emotion. I just turned 38 this month, and I think the combination of being firmly in my late-30's now and having just finished riding my 7th AIDS/LifeCycle has got me thinking deeply about a lot of things. I was (as many were) recently moved by the powerful message that the world got from watching HBO's "The Normal Heart." And then again watching HBO's "The Case Against 8" this week, on the eve of the marriage of Jeff Zarrillo and Paul Katami. I feel tremendous change in my approach towards interpersonal relationships right now as well — with an eye out towards both friendships and romantic love... with changing priorities in my life's work. Maybe it's just Mercury in retrograde, but right now I'm just feeling very deeply. I express a lot of that through music. Music is the motivation that keeps me going. Music is the crutch that supports me through long days. Music is the outlet that allows me to vent and to be creative. So with this podcast, I want to celebrate the beauty that exists in loving each other… in finding love in all of its strange forms and remembering what it means to love one another.
