BROWNSVILLE, Texas - At a recent ceremony at the Cameron County courthouse, County Judge Eddie Treviño and VTX1 CEO Patrick McDonnell signed an MOU to bridge the digital divide that exists in the county by expanding broadband servicesAt the signing ceremony, Cameron County leaders were asked why those chose to partner with VTX1 rather than another internet service provider. The other ISPs that made a bid for the project were AT&T, Charter Communications, and SmartCom.In answer to that question - why partner with VTX1 - Cameron County Commissioner David Garza said: “The key attribute was that VTX1 was willing to sit down and work with the county and allow us to put a system in place for broadband service in Cameron County that involved Cameron County having to spend zero tax dollars. That was one of the main attributes, besides the reputation VTX1 brings to the table.”Here is an in-depth audio interview with Cameron County Commissioner David Garza about the new Cameron County-VTX1 partnership. AUSTIN, Texas - Cameron County's general aviation airport will benefit greatly from the construction of a second causeway to South Padre Island, according to Cameron County's commissioner for Precinct Three.David Garza spoke in support of additional funding for general aviation airports in the public comment portion of a recent Texas Transportation Commission meeting in Austin. One of the agenda items dealt with additional funds for aviation appropriated by the 88th Legislature. Garza started his remarks by saying he has had many meetings and encounters with the TxDOT's aviation division. “We have been the recipients especially of the grant program over the course of years.”Garza said that when he first became a county commissioner he “inherited an overgrown, pretty much abandoned airport.” He said that with with the help of the TxDOT's aviation department, Cameron County has been able to clean up the Port Isabel-Cameron County Airport.“We've been able to, at this point, clean it up to the point where it is immaculate,” Garza said. “We've done major capital projects that they (the aviation division) has been part of.”Garza referenced state Sen. Robert Nichols, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation. Nichols had earlier spoken about funding for general aviation airports at the TTC meeting.“From our perspective, it's very evident that he and Chairman Canales were very receptive to hearing our needs and (the need to) increase the funding.”State Rep. Terry Canales is chairman of the House Committee on Transportation.“General aviation airports play a key economic role in our communities,” Garza said. “They are critical. They're unheralded, pretty much, in the state of Texas. If you don't fly in or fly out or know about them… it's not on your radar.”Editor's Note: The attached podcast features remarks on general aviation airports by state Sen. Robert Nichols and Cameron County Commissioner David Garza at a recent Texas Transportation Commission meeting. To read the new stories and watch the news videos of the Rio Grande Guardian International News Service go to www.riograndeguardian.com.

Barton sits down with David to talk about his path as an athlete, father, and fitness instructor.  David has completed 17 Ironman Triathlons including the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.  They have taught David about discipline, mindset, focusing on the "controllables" and much more. He is also 5 ½ years sober and so much of who he is and what he prioritized today comes from his sobriety and  being the best father he can be for his two teenage kids.  Behind his exterior of muscles and a big smile, Austin local David Garza is just as compassionate at heart as he lets on. As one of Austin's most motivated fitness instructors, Garza gladly admits to spending time surfing Pinterest for motivating quotes to share with others. Referred to as the “Tony Robbins of spin” by some of his clients, Garza cherishes being able to make others feel special, whether that's by playing someone's favorite song during a class or sitting down with someone for coffee to help them tackle the obstacles in their way to a healthier lifestyle. “I have been pretty blessed to have found this career, where I can use music and fitness and really talk in a deep way of how we are doing,” Garza says. “And, because I have gone through some ridiculously challenging things in my life, I am able to look at somebody and say ‘Hey man, I get it. Let's try and figure out what's going wrong, pinpoint it and see what we can do in a positive way to figure out what we need to get done to get you out of this funk.'”When Garza came out of college, his lifestyle included smoking and drinking, and at one point, he even weighed close to 300 pounds. Coming up on four years of being sober, Garza says he can consider his past experiences struggling with nutrition and unhealthy habits as a blessing, because they make it easy for him to be able to discuss topics that can typically be hard to talk about. “I get to share with a lot of people who are struggling, and I have been down that path, and I feel like I can truly relate to somebody struggling with lots of different things,” Garza says. “While I know there are a lot of challenges out there, I also know that you can overcome those challenges, because you want to be a little bit better than you were yesterday.”Garza is heading to Nice, France in September to compete in another Ironman Triathlon World Championships. To contact David, find him on Instagram @davidgarza1He is currently teaching classes at HIT Athletic in North Central AuUse this link to get a 30 minute discovery call scheduled with Barton if you're interested in his 12 week coaching course. https://calendly.com/bartbryan/30minFor more information about Iron Neck products and to receive a 15% discount on your order, use this link -> https://bit.ly/46ZmUhKTo get the Free weekly workout PDF, just email Barton: Barton@bartonguybryan.comTo hire Barton for a Speaking Event, Click here: https://www.google.com/url?q=https%3A%2F%2Fcalendly.com%2Fbartbryan%2F30-minute-meeting-clone&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AOvVaw2a_wCbF6yDMtR_5pNdIg4PBarton on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/bartonguybryan/Podcast Website is: https://www.podpage.com/the-mindset-forge-podcast/Become a Patreon Sponsor of the podcast for extra cool stuff including a Free weekly workout program by clicking here - https://themindsetforge.supercast.com/v1?

Money-swap arrangement allows RGV MPO to speed up Veterans Bridge project by four years

BROWNSVILLE, Texas- A project to improve inspection facilities at Veterans International Bridge at Los Tomates in Brownsville is being fast-forwarded four years thanks to an innovative money-swap arrangement. The Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization would not have had money in the budget for the project until 2026, even though it is shovel-ready. So, the executive director of the RGV MPO, Andrew Canon, approached other large MPOs around the state to see if they could help. The North Central Texas Council of Governments said they could help. They agreed to essentially loan RGV MPO $14.6 million for the Brownsville port of entry project. If they had not done this, NCT COG would have had to return its money back to the Texas Department of Transportation. In return, RGV MPO will give the $14.6 million back to NCT COG in 2026 from its so-called Category 7 funds - without interest.“It is a huge project we are going to advance four years,” Canon said, referring to the Veterans International Bridge project.NCT COG has already approved the money-swap deal. RGV MPO approved the swap at a board meeting last Thursday. Now, it must be approved by TxDOT. RGV MPO Chairman Ambrosio Hernandez said Veterans International Bridge is one of the major ports of entry for the Rio Grande Valley.“Any port of entry that gets optimized in a more expeditious manner is always a win for the Rio Grande Valley. We are proud we were able to help as the RGV MPO, to move this project along,” Hernandez said. Hernandez said fast-forwarding the inspection facilities project at Veterans International Bridge is all the more important because the USMCA trade agreement is ramping up. “The more bridges we have functioning, the better off we will all be. The more trade we get, the more jobs are created,” Hernandez said. “I congratulate the RGV MPO for moving on this project and any other project that serves the entire Rio Grande Valley.”Cameron County Commissioner David Garza is a member of the RGV MPO. He said the Veterans International Bridge project is important for the whole region. “It increases the capacity and the speed at which we can get trade and goods through the bridge and into the state of Texas and the rest of the nation,” Garza said. “It is important for mobility of product into our country from Mexico and we know that there chokeholds in different areas. Some of them (trucks) are backed up a day or two.”Advancing the Veterans International Bridge project by four years does a number of things, Garza explained.“It gets the project done but more importantly it also will save us dollars doing it at today’s cost versus the cost four years from now. Who knows what those costs might be,” Garza said.“We don’t want to wait four years and then find out that the dollars we have are not enough to cover what we are doing. This presented an opportunity for us to take advantage of someone’s excess dollars.”Garza added: “It is a win-win situation for everybody.”Editor’s Note: The main image accompanying the above news story shows an inspection facility at Veterans International Bridge at Los Tomates in Brownsville. Growing up in Dallas, John Thomasson found the bass guitar the same way many did - a friend started a band and no one else played bass. He attended the Booker T. Washington School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and then the University of North Texas, where he studied music. After that, he was part of a band called Little Sister (later changed to Sister 7) and had some minor radio hits in the 90s. After moving to Austin, John started playing with one of his heroes - Davíd Garza, playing on his first major label record called This Euphoria. In 2000, John got married, quit playing music for the most part and went back to school to get a degree in Psychology and focused on musical cognition. After working some tech jobs at Apple and Hewlett Packard, he wanted to play a little bit more while preparing for grad school. He started recording and touring with Matt Nathanson in 2004, and one of Matt's songs that John played on was "Come on Get Higher", a double-platinum single. Working with Matt also gave him the chance to play on the original Conan O’Brien show and Late Night With David Letterman. After the birth of his first son, John and his growing family moved to Nashville in the fall of 2009. There, he learned about the family-friendly way that Nashville acts toured and that sealed the deal for him. He landed the gig with Little Big Town in April of 2010 and has toured with them ever since. During that time, he also recorded with LBT on numerous successful records, including: Tornado (platinum album) which featured hit singles "Pontoon" and "Tornado", Pain Killer (Platinum album) which including the triple-platinum single "Girl Crush" and gold single "Day Drinking", The Breaker, Wanderlust (produced by Pharrell Williams), and most recently, Nightfall (Self Produced).Spotify playlist of some of John's work:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0s9wubeza5T6XMKuZNyeED?si=vj4C1X7fTiWhrsQnU7E-MwJohn Thomasson on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/johnthom/Little Big Town website:http://www.littlebigtown.com/Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=9JCBNUCRNRVKY&source=url)

Rather than build the album track by track by overdubbing, she and her producer assembled a group of talented musicians and put them in a room. Together. At the same time. This live-in-the-studio vibe permeates the record and gives it an authenticity typically found on albums by artists she lists as influences. There are shades of James Taylor, and her idols Neil Young, Nick Drake and Bob Dylan, and collaborations with MeShell Ndegeocello, David Garza and Jesse Harris - the latter of which is best known for penning key tracks on Norah Jones' multi-platinum debut - all of which saves the record from being a mere throwback to Graham's singer/songwriter forebears.
