The Bible: Inerrant, Authoritative, and Our Foundation - Matt Popovits by St. Mark Houston
Religious skeptics in our time, consistently deny objective truth. Making assertions that, “we can't really know who God is, or even if there is only one God”. But looking to the Inerrant and Infallible word of God, we can echo and stand on the words of Isaiah 45:5-6; “I am the Lord, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me, that people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none besides me; I am the Lord, and there is no other.”May you be encouraged and equipped by today's episode, to answer the question “Are there more Gods than one?”Q. Are there more Gods than one?A. There is but one only (Deu 6:4), the living and true God (Jer 10:10).Scripture:Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Isaiah 43:9-12, Psalm 90:2, Jeremiah 10:6-10, Proverbs 26:4-5, Acts 17:22-31PBHB GIVEAWAY: https://www.stayreformed.com/giveawayAdditional References:Buy A Puritan Catechism: https://a.co/d/esRURdtRead A Puritan Catechism: https://www.chapellibrary.org/pdf/books/cwpr.pdf?srsltid=AfmBOop_iUZJzFz_3HbHFqJUqPMbSUhhfZUx9FY_-KuyKA9_kwqb8Kh6The Second London Baptist Confession (1689): https://founders.org/library-book/1689-confession/https://www.chapellibrary.org/pdf/books/lbcw.pdf?srsltid=AfmBOorAi1b6iCPqv94DjBcMhSSpcDOGwJrb9hXJSlgqxrFSgo9ofc0-Social Media:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@StayReformedTwitter/X: https://twitter.com/stayreformedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/stayreformed/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stayreformedpodcast/Website: https://www.stayreformed.com/Email: contact@stayreformed.com
Q: My Bible says that John 7:53 - 8:11 isn't found in the earliest manuscripts, so why are we including this in the Bible that we say is the inerrant word of God? Takeaways Inerrancy is a complex issue, focusing on original autographs. Manuscript evidence is abundant but requires careful analysis. Textual criticism helps us understand variations in biblical texts. The ending of Mark and the story of the adulterous woman are key examples. Historical accuracy of certain passages can still hold value. Translation and tradition play crucial roles in understanding scripture. The Bible's reliability is not diminished by textual criticism. Faith and critical thinking are essential in biblical study. Understanding the context of scripture enhances its interpretation. Summary In this episode, Tim responds to a video from an Instagram channel called Leading Second that asserts the belief that if you don't believe the Bible is true, you have no place in leadership. Tim unpacks the loaded statement and explores the concept of a biblical worldview. He challenges the idea of the Bible being infallible and examines the flawed logic behind it. Tim also discusses the different portrayals of God in the Bible and the need for interpretation and contextual understanding. Takeaways The belief that if you don't believe the Bible is true, you have no place in leadership is a loaded statement that lacks nuance and ignores different interpretations of the Bible. A biblical worldview is often defined by specific verses that align with conservative political views, rather than a comprehensive understanding of the entire Bible. The idea of the Bible being infallible is based on circular reasoning and ignores the historical context and authorship of the texts. The Bible does not present a univocal portrayal of God, and different passages can contradict each other. Interpretation and contextual understanding are necessary. Examining the evidence and contradictions in the Bible can lead to a more nuanced and intellectually honest understanding of its teachings. The message he is required to transmit is, he believes, both universal and eternal. Yet the more he studies sympathetically the world of the young Church as well as his owncontemporary world, the more he feels in despair at making accurate translation. Patterns of thought,Today, Dr. Robert Plummer attempts to answer the question "Is the Bible inerrant or infallible?" And if I'm honest, he leaves us with more questions than he answers, all while trying to paint those who doubt inerrancy as having a view that lacks nuance and critical thought. I don't often have the opportunity to listen to commentators like Andrew Klavan. With God having blessed us to do this program at the volume we do, you can watch content or you can produce it. But, in my show research Andrew plays a big role. I stand on the side of the Bible being the complete and inerrant word of God. If some parts of the Bible don't count, no parts of the Bible count. And yet, some smart people discount large portions of it. On his show, Andrew Klavan shared some of his views as a Jewish man who has converted to Catholicism. We also take a look at the trailer for a movie based on Eric Metaxas' book Letter To The American Church. He is a proponent of the fact that the American church is where the German church was leading up to the Holocaust. I also asked Gemini to defend Darwinism vs Intelligent Design. Do you have to believe that the Bible is completely without error to be a true Christian? If you don't agree with the Bible, you ultimately find yourself at odds with the teachings of Jesus and that's never a good idea. But if both the Old and New Testaments have discrepancies, why should we consider our Bible to be inspired? This week, Frank dives into the issue of the inspiration of Scripture and tackles several questions from the audience, briefly discussing topics like abortion, free will, and God's sovereignty. He'll also examine some of the apparent contradictions in the Bible and offer insights from scholars and theologians regarding the variations between the eyewitness testimonies recorded in the New Testament. During the episode, Frank will answer questions like: Do humans beings inevitably make mistakes? If so, how can we trust the Bible? If everything happens for a reason, do we still have free will? How did St. Augustine approach the inerrancy of Scripture? Why is it important to have an eternal perspective? Does the parable of the landowner contradict the promise of rewards in heaven? Additionally, Frank will take us into the cosmic realm and explore the implications of the Big Bang on the creation story in Genesis. For those wanting to go deeper into these questions, Frank shares his recommended reads to expand their understanding. If grappling with challenging passages in the Bible has been a hurdle for you, this episode is a must-listen! By the conclusion of this podcast, you'll gain a deeper understanding of how to interpret the Bible within its literary and historical framework, empowering you to steer clear of common misinterpretations of Scripture. In Episode 37, we discussed the Word of God as our our offensive weapon. In today's interview, we are going to get to know our weapon better. Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Ephesians 6:17 "Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." How did the Bible as we have it today come into existence? Old Testament: Jewish scriptures as accepted by the Jews. New Testament: Process of textual criticism by councils and people. How did history, language, and culture affect the Bible? New Testament written in Greek (Alexander the Great hellinization). Manuscript evidence: We have numerous fragments of scripture within 25 to a couple hundred years of the actual event. 1 Cor 15:3 lists “in accordance of the scriptures” people that Jesus appeared to. If original witnesses are still alive when manuscripts published, they are more likely to be accure Other secular historical sources document basic parts of Jesus' life and the Gospel narrative. How can Christians be confident in the authority of the Bible? All the disciples go to death confessing Jesus as Lord and resurrection, except John who was exiled to Patmos. Nobody will die for a lie, but people will die for something they believe is true. If we claim the Gospel message, Jesus claims the scriptures are true. So we either accept or reject Jesus as Lord. “The Bible is without error.” This claim, the claim that the Bible is “inerrant,” is what lies behind most Christians' claims when they insist they are “preaching the Bible,” that they attend a “Bible church,” that “the Bible is true,” and so on. When most conservative Christians claim to be “literalists,” what they mean is that they are “inerrantists.” But what does this claim mean? Why is it so central and widespread among conservative Christians? Dan explores these topics in this week's episode, and argues that we need to understand the claims of inerrancy to understand why it ultimately doesn't back up claims about the authority or accuracy of the Bible. In this episode of Casual Conversations, Pastor John Whitsett explores how the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God. The difference between the dictation vs. the dynamic theories of inspiration is the key to understanding the Bible's inerrancy. John covers this in his blog Kingdom Thoughts and Reflections. You can find this post at https://www.johnwhitsett.com/blog/inerrancy-and-inspiration-of-the-bible. Nazarene Statement on the Bible: We believe in the plenary inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, by which we understand the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, given by divine inspiration, inerrantly revealing the will of God concerning us in all things necessary to our salvation, so that whatever is not contained therein is not to be enjoined as an article of faith. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/momentum-ministries6/support
In recent years, more and more scholars and Christians have abandoned the belief that the Bible is without error, commonly known as "inerrant." Some of what scholars point to for such argumentation against the Bible being inerrant would be Christ's post-resurrection reports. How should Christians that believe in biblical inerrancy handle matters where the Bible records "false statements" made by ungodly persons? Or could the frailty of human memory cancel out the trustworthiness of the Bible? Dr. Bill Mounce joins our host, Trevy Trev, to talk about Dr. Mounce's latest book, "Why I Trust the Bible" where he discusses why the Bible is still "trustworthy." Of course no evangelical Christian would deny the inerrancy of the writings of the Apostles. But does this mean that in all their teachings outside of their inspired writings they were also equally inspired and inerrant? Questions about whether it's a bad sign when a church's statement of faith says they believe the Bible is inerrant “in the original manuscripts,” how the Gospel of Mark can be inerrant if someone else added 16:9–20, and whether the Gospels were meant to be complementary. Is it a red flag when a church's statement of faith says they believe the Bible is inerrant “in the original manuscripts”? How can we say the Gospel of Mark is the inerrant Word of God if someone added 16:9–20 into it? Were the Gospels meant to be complementary? Did the writers intend for us to harmonize them?
All believers, and particularly those in full time ministry, must be convinced of the inerrancy and authority of Scripture. Listen in as Dr. Danny Akin, President of Southeastern Baptist Theology, teaches with such clarity and conviction on this topic. We were already "convinced" on this topic, but Dr. Akin taught us new things and deepened that conviction."This book will keep you from sin or sin will keep you from this book."
In this episode, Phil, Kevin and return guest, Brandon Sutton, discuss the first "sola" of the five solas of the reformation, "Sola Scriptura." What does it mean, and why is it important?
In today's sermon we ask questions related to the Bible, and whether it is the authority which is the word of God to be believed and obeyed; or whether its words were inspired by God; or whether it's infallible and free from errors and untruths. There are so many different beliefs and theological perspectives, and there probably will be until the end of time.
How should we treat the Bible? Inerrant? Infallible? Does it contain errors?
