Former skeptic Henare Whaanga grew up with an ex-gang member father and a mother who was an ex-Jehovah's Witness. His father supernaturally encountered God in prison, and he took Henare with him to preach the Gospel. However, Henare became frustrated with the evangelical church's emphasis on blind faith. His questions were met with shallow responses from the church, and his belief started to crumble. Unable to find any substance in Christianity, Henare left the church, but then he stumbled upon apologetics, leading him to a deeper exploration of key questions: Did Jesus really die and rise again? Is the Bible trustworthy? Guest bio: Henare Whaanga is the Regional Director at Thinking Matters, New Zealand's leading apologetics organization, where he works to strengthen the understanding and defense of the Christian faith. He is a devoted husband, father, lay pastor and Bible teacher. Resources Mentioned: Frank Turek - I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist Works of Lee Strobel Works of J. Let us know what you thought of the show! There's Christian light. And there's Jason Perry. The former Navy SEAL, former SWAT Team member, and current pastor is not only Christian heavy, but wants us to see Jesus as a meek warrior too. That's the savior he found, after growing up an atheist, attempting to fill an abandonment hole with patriotism and coming to the end of himself, right into the arms of Jesus. Speaking of his time as a Navy SEAL and hints of Jesus he encountered, "So these breadcrumbs that God put there are just men of God in my life that I noticed all have one thing in common. They all had an incredible peace about them. The rest of us were raging and thrashing and dealing in a high octane profession, guys who have to decompress somehow. The only effective way I've seen people handle that without damaging themselves was Christians. Everyone else, we went to the bar and went to women and went to other things. But they went to the Lord and they were the only ones who handled it. They were the most resilient people I've ever seen.”Our Sendoff today comes from Prayercast. Do you have to believe that the Bible is completely without error to be a true Christian? If you don't agree with the Bible, you ultimately find yourself at odds with the teachings of Jesus and that's never a good idea. But if both the Old and New Testaments have discrepancies, why should we consider our Bible to be inspired? This week, Frank dives into the issue of the inspiration of Scripture and tackles several questions from the audience, briefly discussing topics like abortion, free will, and God's sovereignty. He'll also examine some of the apparent contradictions in the Bible and offer insights from scholars and theologians regarding the variations between the eyewitness testimonies recorded in the New Testament. During the episode, Frank will answer questions like: Do humans beings inevitably make mistakes? If so, how can we trust the Bible? If everything happens for a reason, do we still have free will? How did St. Augustine approach the inerrancy of Scripture? Why is it important to have an eternal perspective? Does the parable of the landowner contradict the promise of rewards in heaven?   Additionally, Frank will take us into the cosmic realm and explore the implications of the Big Bang on the creation story in Genesis. For those wanting to go deeper into these questions, Frank shares his recommended reads to expand their understanding. If grappling with challenging passages in the Bible has been a hurdle for you, this episode is a must-listen! By the conclusion of this podcast, you'll gain a deeper understanding of how to interpret the Bible within its literary and historical framework, empowering you to steer clear of common misinterpretations of Scripture. Is it necessary to have all the answers to complex theological or cultural questions when talking to non-Christians? Absolutely not! But the fear of not having a response, let alone a convincing one, can be overwhelming, leading many Christians to shy away from sharing their beliefs. When you feel trapped in such situations, is there an easy way out? Christian apologist and author Eric Hernandez knows a thing or two about how to navigate tough conversations with skeptics. This week, Frank invites Eric on the show to talk about his new book 'The Lazy Approach to Evangelism: A Simple Guide for Conversing with Nonbelievers,' a wonderful resource for Christians who want to be more effective as they engage non-Christians with the Gospel (think 'Tactics' combined with 'I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist'!). During the episode, Frank and Eric role play through a lively debate Eric recently had with a feminist lawyer on abortion and answer questions like: What are the 5 essential tools for "lazy apologetics"? Rebutting vs. refuting - what's the difference? How did Eric stump a pro-choice advocate? How can Christians defend the faith when talking to people who don't believe the Bible? What two principles did the Apostle Paul instruct us to use when dialoguing with non-Christians? What did Jesus do when He was confronted with a well-packaged logical fallacy? Evangelism can be tough at times, but it's a lot easier when you get a good grasp on how to spot faulty and inconsistent ideas. As you'll hear during this conversation, learning how to graciously shift the burden of proof to your opponent can make a world of difference. Want to learn more about how to master the art of lazy apologetics? Make sure to grab your copy of 'The Lazy Approach to Evangelism' today! Dr. Frank Turek and Hanna Sims recently co-authored a curriculum called "Yes, God is Real" which is designed to teach apologetics to children between the ages of 7 and 12 years old. Dr. Turek is the best-selling author of I Don't Have Enough Faith to Become an Atheist and Hanna Sims is a children's ministry specialist. They believe that today's children need to learn earlier than ever before that the Christian faith is not based on subjective opinions or personal choices but on truth, evidence and the solid foundation of God's Word. Dr. Turek and Ms. Sims discuss with Wayne Rice and John Coulombe such questions as "What is apologetics?" and "Aren't children too young for apologetics?" and they point grandparents to resources that can strengthen the faith of children and give them the tools they need to stand firm during their teen and young adult years. "This curriculum is not just for kids," says Coulombe. Janell, Dagmar, and Dubois talk about what the Bible says about who goes to heaven. They talk about the pluralistic views, what happens to someone who has never heard of Jesus or grew up in a culture where Christianity is unknown. They also talk about how creation is God's general revelation and what that means for us. Although homeschooling our kids gives us many more opportunities to disciple our children, it does not guarantee that they will embrace our faith. Often our teens will ask questions or make statements that can invoke fear and cause us to react, but as you'll hear in this episode, questions are actually a GOOD sign. I had a mom reach out to me recently who was concerned that her teen was expressing doubt about the existence of God. It's that time of year again! You're sitting around with family at the Christmas dinner table, and Uncle Joe insists on picking apart your Christian faith. What's the best way to respond? Ignore him while you play with your mashed potatoes? Or do you try to refute his objections? You know you need to give the reason for the hope that you have, but how can you engage with his statements without starting a family feud? In this week's episode of I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, Frank explains that every objection to the Christian faith assumes a standard beyond the person who is making the objection and gives examples of simple questions you can ask Uncle Joe (and others like him!) to place a seed of doubt in his assertion that something is wrong with the Christian worldview. Frank addresses some of the most common objections to Christianity, including: God does immoral things in the Old Testament There's too much evil in the world Christians are hypocrites and do evil things Christianity is too exclusive God doesn't show himself enough The Bible doesn't recognize LGBTQ+ rights there's no evidence for God PLUS--Frank shares testimonies from three people whose lives have been transformed by the Holy Spirit through the work we do here at Cross Examined! Do Christians have good historical reasons to put our faith in the resurrection of Jesus? Can we really know what happened 2,000 years ago? No one doubts the works of Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar or the history written about them, so what makes the historicity of Jesus so special? And what do non-Christian scholars say about the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus? If anyone knows the answers to these questions, it's New Testament scholar Dr. Michael Licona! His seminal work, The Resurrection of Jesus: A New Historiographical Approach, has been praised by many as the most thorough and useful tool to those looking for an in-depth study of the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. Mike currently serves as Associate Professor in Theology at Houston Christian University and president of Risen Jesus, Inc. In this special midweek episode of 'I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist,' he sits down with Frank to discuss the following topics as they relate to Jesus and the resurrection: problems with postmodernist history the uncertainty of historical knowledge what is a historical fact? the tools and rules of historical research how our worldview affects how we study history objections to the resurrection of Jesus the intersecting philosophies of science, history, and theology This is a fascinating and in-depth discussion, and you'll definitely learn something new! Instead of ignoring culture or simply imitating it, what if Christians took it seriously and thought well about how they could incorporate its valuable truths into our teaching? This is what the apostle Paul did with the Athenian leaders at Mars Hill (Acts 17:16-31). What would it look like in our day? If God made humans in His image, does that also mean we have the right to “play God” whenever we want? Many atheists and pro-choice advocates criticize God's morality when He (ironically) “plays” God by taking life prematurely in the Old Testament. But they don't bat an eye when advocating for abortion and call it a “moral right.” It doesn't make sense! However, what about capital punishment? It seems like pro-lifers who support the death penalty are also contradicting themselves. What's the difference? In this episode of 'I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be An Atheist', Frank continues the discussion from last week on how to answer some of the most common abortion arguments, including a discussion on Numbers 5:27-28, which many people mistakenly cite as an example that God is not pro-life, and the important difference between vaccines and abortions when people declare “my body, my choice”! Frank also answers listener questions, including those on Mormonism, near-death experiences (NDEs), and whether or not it's a good idea to use fictional and unbiblical stories as a bridge to the Gospel. After 49 years and 63 million dead, the Supreme Court finally overturned Roe v. Wade. Do you have a constitutional right to a dead baby? Finally, the Supreme Court has answered properly… NO. However, despite this good news, there is still much work to do, as now the decision goes back to the individual states. As Christians and concerned citizens, what do we do now? In this episode of I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, Frank addresses the following questions: What did the Supreme Court actually do and what does the constitution say? What does this decision tell us about the importance of voting for pro-life presidents? Have Christians set up a theocracy? What about my body, my choice? How to make the case for life! Oh, and what would Satan actually say about the Supreme Court decision? The Babylon Bee's microphones were in Satan's press conference after Roe v. Wade went down. Politicians and citizens on both sides of this issue can no longer hide behind the excuse, “Well, the life issue doesn't really matter because the Supreme Court has tied our hands.” Well, they just untied them. We must make a case for our position, and we need to do it now. Hollywood Heroes: How Your Favorite Movies Reveal God - https://amzn.to/3yo0OXb   Frank Turek is an award-winning author or coauthor of several books, including "I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist" and his latest, "Hollywood Heroes". He hosts a weekly TV program  broadcast to 32 million homes and an apologetics podcast on over 180 stations. As founder and president of CrossExamined.org, Frank speaks over 100 times  per year, often to youth and college students. He has debated several prominent atheists, including Christopher Hitchens and Michael Shermer.   Seven fictional stories — Captain America, Iron Man, Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Batman, and Wonder Woman — point us to the Ultimate Hero, Jesus Christ.   Think about it. What if Batman knew your name and wanted to be friends with you? What if you were the one Tony Stark died to save? What if it was you Luke Skywalker would stop at nothing to redeem? Hollywood Heroes will awaken you to these questions and help you see the God who stops at nothing to redeem you. And it will strengthen you to invite others into conversations of faith and life in Jesus.   Fictional stories about heroes help us realize that there is evil to fight, there are souls to be won, and there is growth to be achieved. These heroes help us recognize that regardless of religious or cultural beliefs, sacrificing your life for another is a powerful and beautiful display of love.   Fictional heroes help us to reconsider what is tangibly in front of us through the lens of story rather than just living through another day in our ordinary lives. Appealing  straight to the heart, the stories bypass artificial barriers that would normally block them because our worldview has been threatened.    When we examine out-of-this-world qualities like idealism, genius, a willingness to sacrifice, discipline,  loyalty, humility, courage, wisdom, focus, power, and love, we discover that Jesus practices them perfectly.   Connect with Dr. Turek & Cross Examined: Website - https://crossexamined.org/   YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/c/CrossExamined   Podcast - https://pod.link/1297439270   IG - https://www.instagram.com/drfrankturek/   --   Connect with Frank and The Super Human Life on Social Media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coachfrankrich/   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/584284948647477/   Website: http://www.thesuperhumanlifepodcast.com/tshlhome   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjB4UrpxtNO2AFtDURMzoKQ
