He is an Austrian and libertarian of sorts but had some qualms with my anti-IP writing so presented a paper "Is There Room for Intellectual Property Rights in Austrian Economics?" at the Austrian Scholars Conference in 2008, which I attended and commented on. After 18 years we finally decided to get around to talking about this. I had planned on an hour but we ended up talking for 3. It turns out we were old friends but not that close; we didn't know much about each other. So the first 30-50 minutes or so is more preliminary discussion. To his credit, he read a good deal of the huge deluge of material I sent to read up on and asked many very good questions. He did not engage in intentional equivocation that is characteristic of many on the pro-IP side, and he was reasonable in conceding many of my points and was willing to ponder my push back. I was hoping to get him to see the light, since I have in person seen many people change their minds on IP after a long discussion but have never had it happen while recording. We did not resolve the issue, partly because we just didn't have enough time to keep going, but I think we made some progress. Maybe we will have a Part 2 later. Who knows. A lot of past guests have mentioned Elizabeth Hargrave's Wingspan as an answer to a question. Whether as the current game, 60 minute game, or just in passing, there is no denying Wingspan's impact on the industry since its debut in 2019. It was nominated for, and won, lots of awards that year and in 2020. It has had four expansions so far with a fifth in the distant queue according to the Stonemeir emails.Its deeper impact came in 2024 with the release of Wyrmspan, a reimaging, or reimplementation, of Wingspan, by Connie Vogelman with additional development by Hargrave. As a result of his experience coupled to the developing Opioid Crisis of the late 1990's, he developed a keen interest in providing effective chronic pain management without the use/misuse paradigm implicit with the opiate crisis. With this as motivation, he wrote the ebook "Debunking Chronic Pain Management Misconceptions and finally finding practical solutions published in 2009.Dr. Jarhed Macarubbo Peña, PhD, LPC, CRC specializes in psychophysiological approaches to complex health conditions. He integrates evidence-based modalities from somatic therapy, mindfulness, biofeedback, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Peña completed his studies at Michigan State University with a focus on stress responses in autistic young adults. He previously worked as a clinical therapist in a private practice and had served in academic and research roles at Michigan State, contributing to peer-reviewed publications on autism, vocational rehabilitation, and rural health equity. He has an independent practice helping patients with various autonomic nervous system dysfunction including chronic pain, functional neurological disorders, pelvic floor dysfunction, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), tinnitus, hypertension, POTS, fibromyalgia, and anxiety disorders. Dr. Peña brings a background in exercise physiology and over a decade of interdisciplinary experience in rehabilitation, behavioral health, and wellness.Mary McLaughlin, PT, DPT is a doctor of physical therapy at The Recovery Project- Livonia. She is passionate in treating patients with chronic pain and has been a leader in the development of the Chronic Pain Management Program of Michigan.
