He is perhaps best known as the film noiresque spokesman for GEICO insurance posing rhetorical questions in the vein of Robert Stack or Rod Serling, which are then acted out in humorous fashion. He' starred in the 1995 movie The Brothers McMullen and 1996's She's the One with Jennifer Aniston. He's also had large supporting roles in One Tough Cop and The Bone Collector. His writing credits include the novels CAL, ″And All the Roses Dying...″, Dice, Hourigan's Song and THE SOFT DRIVE. He has recorded and produced four albums, Hero (1999) and To Be Down (2002), SPEED (2016) and The Center EP (2017), as well as various singles, including The Other Side, The Hammer and Thank you again....  Miami Dolphins Tales From The DeepWhile not widely recruited out of Tuscaloosa High School, a chance film room discovery by Bear Bryant led to Bob Baumhower playing on the defensive line for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Baumhower helped lead the Tide to a 31-4 record during his college career while earning consecutive All-SEC honors in 1975 and 1976. The Miami Dolphins took Bob in the second round of the 1977 NFL Draft and he was thrust into the starting lineup, making an immediate impact at nose tackle as a rookie. Baumhower would play his entire nine-year career in Miami, playing in 130 games with 129 starts, earning five Pro Bowl nods and five All-Pro selections (2 first-team; 3 second team) as well as he anchored the Fins Killer B's defense of the 1980s. In 2008, he was inducted into the Miami Dolphins Honor Roll. In The Tank, Bob shared his unlikely path to the University of Alabama and how one conversation with the legendary Bear Bryant changed his life. He also recalled some rookie hazing from Dolphins great Manny Fernandez, enjoying the fun and sun of South Florida with the likes of Mark Duper, Nat Moore, and Hugh Green, partnering with Joe Namath in his first experience in the restaurant business that would lead to a life-long post-football career, and a trip to Lion Country Safari that resulted in an unexpected house pet.

With some sports media news in the headlines, we are pleased to be joined again by Richard Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) from Sports Illustrated.  We recorded on Operning Day for the English Premier League, so we chat about NBC's near-universal popular coverage as well as their paid app and whether people will purchase.  That seques into a discussion of The Athletic, the paid content sports writing site, their successes so far and would their model work in a city like New York. We talk about ESPN and how necessary they are for a fan whose favorite sports are undercovered (like hockey and soccer). We also discuss where ESPN fits in with Disney's new streaming strategy. We end with some brief wrestling chat, what Richard is enjoying with the current WWE product and being able to wrestling from around the world online.  We are working lining up some guests to discuss the Premier League and the other European leagues starting up, but were not able to get them in time for today's podcast.
