A New Perspective of Adam and Eve (From Ancient Sources)

Little known wisdom about Adam, Eve, the Garden of Eden, the Snake, and the results of the Sin that happened thousands of years ago. Teachings from the Holy book, “Pirkei D’Rebbe Eliezer”, (Sayings of Rabbi Eliezer Ben Huncarus) Adam and Eve were the first man and woman. They are central to the belief that humanity is in essence a single family, with everyone descended from a single pair of original ancestors. ---------------------- In the Book of Genesis of the Hebrew Bible, chapters one through five, there are two creation narratives with two distinct perspectives. In the first, Adam and Eve are not named. Instead, God created humankind in God's image and instructed them to multiply and to be stewards over everything else that God had made. In the second narrative, God fashions Adam from dust and places him in the Garden of Eden. Adam is told that he can eat freely of all the trees in the garden, except for a tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Subsequently, Eve is created from one of Adam's ribs to be his companion. They are innocent and unembarrassed about their nakedness. However, a serpent deceives Eve into eating fruit from the forbidden tree, and she gives some of the fruit to Adam. These acts give them additional knowledge, but it gives them the ability to conjure negative and destructive concepts such as shame and evil. God later curses the serpent and the ground. God prophetically tells the woman and the man what will be the consequences of their sin of disobeying God. Then he banishes them from the Garden of Eden. ---------------------- Welcome! How Adam and Eve's Eating From the Forbidden Fruit Still Effects Us Today (& How it Will Be Fixed)

Rav Dror teaches the consequences of eating the forbidden fruit and how it will be fixed with the coming of the Messiah in the Final Redemption. Forbidden fruit is a name given to the fruit growing in the Garden of Eden which God commands mankind not to eat. In the biblical narrative, Adam and Eve eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and are exiled from Eden. In Abrahamic religions, a messiah o is a savior or liberator of a group of people. The concepts of Mashiach, messianism, and of a Messianic Age originated in Judaism, and in the Hebrew Bible. The Messiah, 'the anointed one'), often referred to as King Messiah, is to be a human leader, physically descended from the paternal Davidic line through King David and King Solomon. He is thought to accomplish predetermined things in only one future arrival, including the unification of the tribes of Israel, the gathering of all the Tribes of Israel to Eretz Israel, the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem, the ushering in of a Messianic Age of global universal peace, and the annunciation of the world to come. The Story of Rav Yosef Schwartz, the hidden righteous man who saved a prostitute: 02:04 Rav Dror also teaches about the Divine Presence (Shechina) and the World to Come after the Final Redemption and the coming of the Messiah. These lessons are from the Holy Book, "Letters (Alphabet) of Rabbi Akiva". He also teaches about the 10 Lost Tribes of Israel, where they are now, how to find them, and why the Nation of Israel is much larger than the Jewish People. The Tzadikim Nistarim ("hidden righteous ones") or Lamed Vav Tzadikim ("36 righteous ones"), often abbreviated to Lamed Vav(niks), refers to 36 righteous people, a notion rooted within the more mystical dimensions of Judaism. The singular form is Tzadik Nistar. Lamedvavnik, is the Yiddish term for one of the 36 humble righteous ones or Tzadikim mentioned in kabbalah or Jewish mysticism. According to this teaching, at any given time there are at least 36 holy persons in the world who are Tzadikim. These holy people are hidden; i.e., nobody knows who they are. According to some versions of the story, they themselves may not know who they are. The Shekhinah is the English transliteration of a Hebrew word meaning "dwelling" or "settling" and denotes the dwelling or settling of the divine presence of God. The prophets made numerous references to visions of the presence of God, particularly in the context of the Tabernacle or Temple. The shekhinah is referred to as manifest in the Tabernacle and the Temple in Jerusalem throughout rabbinic literature. Welcome! "Good Gravy" as my friend and Americana musician, Joe Buchanan loves to say. This episode is for all the spiritual seekers out there. No matter your background or religion, there is always someplace out there that can become Home.Joe and I met a few years ago at Limmud Atlanta ( think TED Talks but Jewish themed) where we were both guest presenters and ended our weekend with a massive porch jam session that lasted till late in the evening.A Texas native, Joe Buchanan makes Jewish Americana music. Grounded in the idea that there is always room at the table, Joe's music highlights the values, Torah (the Bible), and history of the Jewish people to deliver stories steeped in the struggle and triumph of the human spirit, all while praising God for the goodness in life.Raised with one foot in Houston and one in the Texas Hill Country, Joe grew up swinging off ropes on the Frio River and spending time like any kid - trying to figure out what was what. The biggest question was about Gd and despite a deep belief in a creator, he couldn't find much that he agreed with in what he was hearing. The struggle led to more struggles and he finally decided that he and Gd would sort it out later. Then one day, about 13 years into his marriage, Joe found out that his wife was Jewish. Now, with the discovery of his wife's heritage, their family started down a path that would change everything and allow him to start living his purpose and passion as a musician. His debut album, Unbroken, is filled with music that speaks to the incredible beauty of finding a home after a lifetime of searching. His follow up album, Back from Babylon is country like you remember it. Southern roots forward, stories that dig deep, and a little bit of honky-tonk. With inspiration from the Torah and his South Texas upbringing, Buchanan’s lyrics speak straight and true.Check out his website loaded with music, tour dates and more:https://joebuchananmusic.com/homeDownload Unbroken on Amazon Music:https://amzn.to/2tDDuWmDownload Back from Babylon on Amazon Music:https://amzn.to/36G5Pd6Learn more about Limmud International:https://limmud.orgLimmud Miami:https://www.miamilimmud.orgLimmud Atlanta:https://limmudse.org/about/

It highlights the complex and often conflicted nature of an intimate, individual religious performance that is at once and the same time also one of the most pressing political issues in contemporary Israeli sociopolitics. Yaacov Yadgar is the Stanley Lewis Professor of Israel Studies at the University of Oxford. His most recent book is Sovereign Jews: Israel, Zionism and Judaism (SUNY Press, 2017). Multiracial Family Man
On being Black & Jewish, conversion, race & racism in the Midwest, and interracial marriage with Rabbi Tiferet Berenbaum, Ep. 62

Ep. 62: Rabbi Tiferet Berenbaum loves to laugh.  She also loves purple.  She loves her husband, her family, her congregation (Shir Hadash -- http://www.shirmke.com/) and Milwaukee.  In fact, if you talk with Rabbi Berenbaum for more than 3 seconds, you will realize that she's filled with love, laughter, terrific listening skills, and, as she puts it "a love of text."  Starting out as the only child of Black Southern Baptists (including a father who was blind), Rabbi Berenbaum slowly but surely found her true spiritual home in Judaism.  Along the way, she had a front seat at the intersection of race, racism and religion, giving her valuable insights into how different groups of people see the World and helping her develop and refine tremendous powers of empathy. Listen, as Rabbi Berenbaum describes her own conversion to her childhood, her conversion to Judaism, her views on and personal experiences with racism, and her views and thoughts on the challenges facing Judaism in the 21st Century.
