In this brief episode, Chris follows up on his recent informal debate with Marek Kizer with some thoughts on the concept of "pre-adjudication" and its implications for biblical justice. Biblical law requires that judges "inquire diligently" in matters of justice (Deut. 19:18). Pre-adjudication bypasses this requirement.

The final command of Jesus to His Church is what we have come to call the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-19). It involves sharing the gospel with all nations and teaching these new disciples to obey all the commands Jesus has given. How does this command of Christ square with a robust doctrine of free speech?  Does this obedience to Christ involve coercion or force? How does the Old Testament law apply to nations today? Do laws against blasphemy still apply? If so, how?

In this sermon we consider the reason Jesus did not come to abolish the law. He recognized that the law is abiding. It is just as permanent as the planet. This, of course, has several implications. Jesus applies this truth about the law by reminding us that obedience to the law is the measure of greatness in his kingdom. Here is a call for us to revere and obey God's law, not as a Savior to save us, but as a rule to guide us.

In this sermon, we consider Jesus' words, "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." These words are important yet debated as to their meaning. This sermon makes the case that Jesus came to make the commands of the law fully known. May we see Jesus as our great Savior and great Teacher and value the importance of the law.

Our voyage as a church through the big, beautiful biblical story has thus far been like every long road trip I've ever been on: the very first part is a thrill! You cross the city limits, begin to feel like you're on vacation, out of the same-old, same-old, and your eyes look to the horizon with optimism and energy as you consider the grand journey you are undertaking. Then, after a couple hours, your initial enthusiasm is slowly and inevitably smothered by Barstow. Your trek's terrain moves from promising and dynamic to monotonous and monochromatic. You begin to wonder if you should have just flown instead. For many of us following the “You are Here” series, episodes of Creation, Fall, Promise, and Exodus are the interesting scenic spots early in the trip. Biblical Law—our destination for this week—on the other hand, can easily fall into that “Barstow” category: “thou shall, thou shall not”; technical iron-age instructions on everything from oxen and food purity to hygiene and scheduling. What do we do with these long scrolls besides speed through or skip right over them? This Sunday, we are going to discover that what at first appears to be a long, strange stretch of ritual literature was absolutely treasured by our ancient ancestors in the faith for a reason. Let's explore the power and purpose of torah in the larger story and in the story of our lives as followers of Jesus! -James

Many Christians have noticed that ‘PRIDE month' is more subdued this year. While this is good, we also need to be careful. Our goal is to see God's law instituted throughout all of society, not just to make things a little less ghey. Many who uphold portions of God's law, such as ‘thou shalt not murder', cringe when they read God's prohibition and punishment of Sodomy. The reality, though, is that God is good and loving in everything that He does, and his laws about homosexuality are both righteous and they protect society from great harm. Tune in now as we discuss how America has abandoned God's good standard. SOURCES: [1] Rushdoony, R.J,, “The Institutes of Biblical Law, Vol.1”, pg 432. Could you imagine a world where a foreign entity has the power to make decisions on our behalf? In our latest episode, former Congresswoman, Michele Bachmann, sheds light on the dangerous potential of handing our sovereignty over to the World Health Organization. With her vast political experience and current role as the Dean of the Robertson School of Government at Regent University, Bachmann offers a unique perspective that intertwines faith, culture, and government. From discussing the WallBuilders Pro-Family Legislators Conference to understanding how the Biden administration's plans could affect our nation, we uncover a world where God worked through imperfect people to create greatness. We explore the critical role of training the next generation of leaders with a biblical worldview - a mission that is core to Bachmann's work at Regent University. We also confront the threat of the Marxist 1619 project and reveal the importance of understanding the biblical basis of law amidst increasing government lawlessness. However, our discussion doesn't stop at the crossroads of faith, culture, and government. We also question the real implications of global governance, especially in the wake of COVID lockdowns. Bachmann probes the increasing authority that the World Health Organization is assuming over global pandemic responses, and how it threatens our sovereignty. With countless proposed amendments to the international health rules and a looming global pandemic treaty, we highlight the urgency of voicing our concerns to federal officers and governors. So, tune in if you're interested in staying informed and understanding the steps you can take.Support the show

Gary deals with an argument making the rounds on social media about Biblical Law. In keeping with the "carnal Christian" debate that was popular in the 1990s, a new group of Christians are positing a similar argument about Old Testament law being "done away with" by Jesus on the cross. Every "position" has some sort of law, and this one is no different. As Gary points out, it's very similar to the "borrowed capital" argument that atheists rely on to make their own case.

Last week I went through ten authors and a number of books that have shaped my life and thinking. I include the full list below. This quote from Neil Postman highlights the significance of reading. One must begin, I think, by pointing to the obvious fact that the written word, and an oratory based upon it, has a content: a semantic, paraphrasable, propositional content. This may sound odd, but since I shall be arguing soon enough that much of our discourse today has only a marginal propositional content, I must stress the point here. Whenever language is the principal medium of communication—especially language controlled by the rigors of print—an idea, a fact, a claim is the inevitable result. The idea may be banal, the fact irrelevant, the claim false, but there is no escape from meaning when language is the instrument guiding one's thought. Though one may accomplish it from time to time, it is very hard to say nothing when employing a written English sentence. What else is exposition good for? Words have very little to recommend them except as carriers of meaning. The shapes of written words are not especially interesting to look at. Even the sounds of sentences of spoken words are rarely engaging except when composed by those with extraordinary poetic gifts. If a sentence refuses to issue forth a fact, a request, a question, an assertion, an explanation, it is nonsense, a mere grammatical shell. As a consequence a language-centered discourse such as was characteristic of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century America tends to be both content-laden and serious, all the more so when it takes its form from print. Mike Winther talks about making a difference in your world. This lecture was given in June of 2012 in Colorado. He talks about sanctifying the world the same way we try to sanctify our families. Our families should be a sanctifying influence on society.  This lecture is about how we can make a difference in our world. It's also about how people in the past have made a difference. First, we talk about whether we can make a difference, our long-term view, the two kingdom view of Christianity, and more biblical insights.    You'll Learn: [02:58] A lot of homeschooling families not only want to sanctify their family, but they feel they have a duty to sanctify the world. They want to raise world-changing children. [03:18] Justification is having your sins atoned for. Sanctification is the process of learning to live and operate in a Christ-like manner. Sanctification is a lifelong process. [03:58] Our families ought to be a sanctifying influence on society. [04:51] Parents hope they bring all of their children to Christ, but they may not. They hope their children are a sanctifying influence, but they may not be. [05:08] Families have an obligation to sanctify the society around them. [06:43] How William Wilberforce adopted the cause of eradicating the slave trade. He was here for a reason and eventually saw the victory of his cause.  [10:06] How we can make a difference. Can we make a difference? What can we do to purify society? [12:06] The two kingdom view of Christianity. Christ is the king of the spiritual kingdom, and the physical world is a different kingdom. [16:03] The biblical view of the role of the church. Matthew 16. The forces of Christ should be on attack not the other way around.  [19:24] Psalm 2 and Psalm 110. No Old Testament passage is quoted more in the New Testament than Psalm 110. [24:08] In the Old Testament, the role of the kings and the priests were always separate. [27:31] If we really understand history, we might not think that things are getting worse and worse.  [29:43] How do we actually make a difference in the world? The Bible refers to our children as sharp arrows. Debate sharpens the arrows and makes them powerful communicators. [30:33] Debate does not aim the arrow. As homeschool parents, we need to be careful that we are pointing in the right direction. [30:59] 1. Solidify your relationship with Jesus Christ. 2. Study and learn God's word. 3. Study history. 4. Pray for Direction.  [37:33] 5. Have a cause bigger than yourself and help your children have a righteous cause. 6. Educate yourself. 7. Think long-term.  [41:47] Persuasion. It's our job to change hearts and minds. 1. Learn gentleness. 2. Be gradual. 3. Be humble.  [52:16] There are so many causes we can find to sanctify our world. We might wonder how to understand them, whether they are relevant for us today, and if we should care about laws that seem to be obsolete. With all these questions and doubts, it can cause us to ignore Old Testament law or gloss over it without a second thought. But what if we are misreading what God intends? What if God's Old Testament law could be sweet to us today (Ps 19:10)? What if it is useful for us knowing the heart of God and how to follow Him?
