Ramban on the Torah | 5785 | 25 | Acharei Mot - Kedoshim, by Rav Eli Weber Everyone knows that the Ramban (like all Jews), loves Eretz Yisrael. But why so much. At the end of Acharei Mot the Ramban explains his philosophy. How is sin different in Eretz Israel than outside of it?
Today's daf is dedicated to the memory of the fallen soldiers of the IDF and security forces who fell in defense of Am Yisrael and Eretz Israel, and to the memory of those whose lives were tragically lost in terrorist attacks. May their memories be blessed. We are especially thinking of our Hadran learners who have lost children, grandchildren, siblings and close friends in the past year and a half. We continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers, for the safe and speedy return of our hostages, and for a refuah shleima for all the injured soldiers. Today's daf is sponsored by Naomi Cohen in loving memory of her mother, Elisheva bat Yehuda, Elisabeth Maybaum, on her 6th yahrzeit. "Having fled the Nazi regime as a child, it gave her such joy and hope to see her children and grandchildren living Jewish lives, learning Torah, settling in Eretz Israel and defending it. Tehi zichra baruch." Does one get multiple punishments for an act on yom tov that involves multiple melachot (as is the case for sacrifices for one who violates Shabbat)? If so, why isn't planting also listed in the Mishna? The Mishna listed a case where one plowed and received eight sets of lashes because of unique circumstances. Seven other suggestions are made to cases that could have been brought in the Mishna that would have added an additional set of lashes. Cases are brought regarding cross breeding with animals that are considered both hekdesh and chulin. How many lashes does one receive? If one cannot receive that many, the court assesses how many they can handle (must be a number divisible by 3). What if they change the assessment? Does it depend on whether they already starting giving the person lashes or not? On what else does it depend? How does an assessment work when there are multiple sets of lashes? How does the actual giving of lashes take place? What type of whip do they use? Where does the person receive the whipping?

"יש לי תוכנית," הוא פתח והביט באחיו בעיניים נוצצות.En: Suddenly, Ariel decided it was time to speak. "I have a plan," he began, looking at his siblings with sparkling eyes. He: "אני רוצה לצאת למפגש עם העולם הגדול."En: "I want to go and meet the world."He: מבטים הופתעו, עמדו להיות תמהות, אולי כועסות.En: Surprised looks hovered, perhaps puzzled, maybe angry. He: אך אליאנה, בעודה נושמת עמוק, עזרה לאחיה: "עליך ללכת אחר חלומך, אריאל. אבל זכור שתמיד נחכה לך כאן, בבית."En: But Eliana, as she took a deep breath, supported her brother: "You must follow your dream, Ariel. But remember, we will always be waiting for you here, at home."He: באותו רגע, יורם חש בהקלה מיוחדת. "להיות כאן, איתכם, מרגיש נכון," אמר בקול שקט.En: In that moment, Yoram felt a special relief. "Being here, with you, feels right," he said quietly. He: "אבל אולי אפשר להיות גם וגם. לחיות עם הלב בשני עולמות."En: "But maybe it's possible to live with one's heart in two worlds."He: השיחה התחממה, רגשות שסוף סוף נמצאו את שביל המעבר.En: The conversation grew warmer, emotions finally finding their path. He: בצל ללא גינוי, התמלא החדר בהבנה שקטה.En: In the absence of condemnation, the room filled with quiet understanding. He: אליאנה נזכרת שאולי גם היא צריכה להחליט על שינוי.En: Eliana recalled that perhaps she too needed to decide on change. He: וחזק, ליטף כל אחד את מה שהשיג—טיול מגלה, בית חם, וליבם של השאר המחכים להקפה עתידית יחדיו.En: And strongly, each caressed what they had achieved—a journey of discovery, a warm home, and the promise of future coffees together. He: לסיום, הם יצאו לרחוב הירושלמי, מחובקים לתוך העונה, חוגגים את החיים כמו עצים המתחילים לפרוח מחדש.En: In conclusion, they went out to the Jerusalemite street, embraced by the season, celebrating life like trees beginning to bloom anew. He: כך הסתיימה הפעם הזאת, במסע של גם וגם, בלב פתוח לחידוש, מה שניתן לתמצת כבוקר חדש במשפחתם.En: Thus ended this time, with a journey of both-and, with an open heart to renewal, which can be summed up as a new morning for their family. Although Yakov is excited to go down to see Yosef his son before he dies, he is still afraid, because he knows that this means the Golus is about to start. He doesn't want to establish the Jewish nation in a morally depraved place like Mitzraim. Hashem comes to him and tells him, “Yakov, do not be afraid to go down to Mitzraim, there is a reason for the plan”. Do not worry, you will have all the power and energy to be able to overcome all the difficulties and hardships. It is specifically there where you will become a great nation. However, at the same time you still have to have the feeling of being in pain, of leaving Eretz Yisroel, because a Jew has to always know that his real home is not in Golus but rather in Eretz Israel. That will give him the power to overcome and to stay strong.. לקו״ש ל-ג
Author Moriel Bareli explores the complexities of identity, culture, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Having moved to Israel and learned Arabic, he gained insights from conversations with Arabs. Moriel shares the historical narratives presented in the Quran, the misunderstandings surrounding Jewish sovereignty, and the need for education to bridge cultural gaps. The significance of reclaiming national identity are crucial in understanding the deeper issues at play in the ongoing conflict. Moriel delves into the significance of Eretz Israel in Judaism, discusses the historical and spiritual connections that bind the Jewish people to the land, the challenges faced by Jews living outside of Israel and the importance of returning to their roots. Moriel emphasizes the need for unity among Jews, the role of education in fostering understanding and peace with the Muslim world, the necessity of self-reflection and living with passion and truth to fulfill their purpose as a nation.Moriel was born and raised in New York but at the age of 18 decided to make Aliyah to Israel. He now lives in Samaria with his wife and 2 children, teaches Arabic, gives lectures about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and is the author of “When a Jew and a Muslim Talk”.His passion for the Arabic language began while he was studying in a Yeshiva that bordered the Christian and Muslim quarters of the Old City of Jerusalem. He embarked on a journey to study the language, religion and culture of those surrounding him, eventually leading him to hundreds of conversations with Muslims from all over the Middle East.Connect with Moriel:mobareli100@gmail.comhttps://moriel-bareli.co.il/en/book-eng/Amazon BookJoin us on Whatsapp:Click the link below to join the Listening to Understand WhatsApp community, where we share exclusive information about episodes and topics discussed on the show. Whether you are a Jew living in Israel, Los Angeles, New York, or Mexico City, we are all part of one national collective soul. We are one family; one nation; one people. We are connected on an intrinsic, cellular level. Miriam Tawil, founder and director of Midreshet Eshel, a Sephardic seminary in Eretz Israel, shares with us about the connection between Israeli Jews and Jews who live outside of Israel (diaspora Jews.) She reminds us that Jews are actually supposed to live in Israel. We were exiled from the Holy Land as a punishment, but the ultimate goal is for all Jews, from everywhere in the world, to come together to live in Israel. For those Jews who are thinking about making aliyah, Miriam encourages them to know their Why. Why do you want to come to Israel? Knowing your why gets you through the How. Miriam says that there is something very special that binds together each and every Jew, no matter where they live. She also shares stories of Jews from various backgrounds (Ashkenazi, Sephardic, liberal, conservative, etc.) who come together to help each other. Jews give to other Jews, even if they don't know each other. There is something in the DNA of the Jewish people that enables them to be one big family.

In her new novel, THE BOY WITH THE STAR TATTOO, author Talia Carner brings to the forefront two unique stories—never-before told in fiction—relating to Israel's survival, but which are set in France! Besides being an award-winning novelist hailed as “an author who explores with compassion arenas none had dared entered before,” Talia Carner is an excellent, professional speaker (Gold level Toastmasters). She has appeared in dozens of TV, radio, and podcasts interviews about the social issues and historical backgrounds of each of her previous five novels. Born and raised in Israel, the author served in the IDF. She now lives in Long Island, NY and Boca Raton, FL. THE BOY WITH THE STAR TATTOO is an epic historical novel weaving two yet-untold events set in France, the first set in 1946 in the aftermath of the Holocaust, when agents from Eretz Israel roamed the European countryside to rescue hidden Jewish orphans (Youth Aliya). The second is set in 1969, about the daring escape of the boats of Cherbourg, in Normandy, which were commissioned and paid for by Israel but whose delivery was blocked by a French arms embargo. Sharon, the assistant to an Israeli naval officer stationed in Cherbourg, is set to unravel the mystery of his journey from a French village to Israel. She is unprepared for the moral dilemma she will face upon solving the mystery. http://taliacarner.com The Douglas Coleman Show now offers audio and video promotional packages for music artists as well as video promotional packages for authors. Is Zionism and Israeli identity a burning question in your mind? You're not alone--and we're here to navigate these waters together. Join us as we engage in a conversation with Esther Piekarski. Esther, a Shlucha in Tel-Aviv, shares her experiences in spreading the Rebbe's message about our approach to Israel and Zionism, and clearly delineates what the message should be.As we traverse the ideological differences between Eretz Israel and Medinat Israel, we look to the Rebbe as our compass. We also discuss the Rebbe's views on Israelis serving in the army and how the Diaspora Jews can show solidarity with Israel. It's not just about waving the flag; it's about understanding our unique roles in the Jewish narrative and contributing to the protection of Am Yisrael. The conversation ends with an invitation for you to step out of your comfort zone and strengthen your bond with Israel. After all, our unity is our strength. Together, let's build a better tomorrow for you, for me, for us, for Am Yisrael.Support the show

Han mener at store deler av de troende i sine forsamlinger i Israel er under sterkt teologisk press fra kirker utenfor Israel og etterlyser en større jødisk identitet i de israelske forsamlingene. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman and features writer Renee Ghert-Zand join host Amanda Borschel-Dan in today's episode. Yesterday marked 75 years to Kaf Tet B'November, November 29, 1947, on which the UN General Assembly voted in favor of a resolution that adopted the plan for partitioning Eretz Israel. Currently, Israel is facing a vote on a damning resolution that will come to the General Assembly plenary at some point in December. Berman updates us on how Israel is fighting it so far. Earlier this week, Berman wrote about the possibility of Israel joining the Grain from Ukraine program. What's actually happening here? Ghert-Zand discusses a study by University of Ottawa researcher Dr. Peggy J. Kleinplatz that suggests that the Nazis attempted to sterilize Jewish women in camps through the delivery of a hormonal food additive. What triggered the study and what was found? There is a new Paul Newman memoir 14 years after his death. What were some of the revelations in it? And finally, we hear about a new book that delves into a series of overlooked historical figures, the Rothschild women. Just like Hashem told Yitzchok his true place is Eretz Israel, so too, must we all know that are true place is Eretz Israel. In addition we learn from the Avos how to live our lives from Avrohom Avinu we learn that even those that sit and learn, should also go out into the world, reach out and inspire others, and from Yitzchok we learn that even if you one that spends your time going out reaching out and inspiring others you must set aside, time to sit and study Torah. לקו”ש כה
Is there any truth to the anti-semitic conspiracy theories that Kanye and your weird uncle have been muttering for years? Probably not, but let's take a look at the seed that grew into such an ugly tree. Israel hasn't enjoyed its current form for very long, but there was a not-so-secret plan in place long before the Allied Forces established the nation of Israel after the Holocaust. Join us as we examine the accusation of fascism within one of the groups that suffered the most under its heel.We take a look at Baron Walter Rothschild, the Russian emigration to the Ottoman Empire, the current conflict and the measures to preserve peace, and everything in between. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion has done an incredible amount of harm to the Jewish Community, and the Anti-Defamation League has done lots of work to counter the decades of trouble caused by the hoax and the countless loud voices who repeat that nonsense. Anti-Semitism has no place in a civilized society.Zionism is a movement not isolated to Judaism--in fact, while many Jewish people are not Zionists, many Christians are.In addition to a survey of the history of Eretz-Israel, we critically examine the claim of fascism, comparing reality to Umberto Eco's 1995 checklist of fascist red flags. When it comes to judging somebody else you have to really understand where they're coming from and their struggles that is why a judge from Eretz Israel cannot judge a case outside of Eretz Israel because they don't understand their struggles. However when comes to growing yourself,as important as it is to recognize the past, more important is to put yourself in a healthy mental space for the future, making positive resolutions to change your life only then can you really grow and be protected . It's called an Eretz Israel mindset that is why the Orei Miklot Was only in Eretz Israel. לקו״ש ב

The Three Weeks of Mourning Part 5: Parshat Devarim and The Sin of the Ten Spies - English only. When the ten spies discouraged us from entering the promised land, the Almighty decreed that no one over twenty years old would be allowed into Eretz Israel. The Mishna records that this judgment was made on Tisha B'Av. For those of us who have difficulty mourning over the loss of the Temple, this other judgment shows us that there are more reasons to mourn on this day. Recorded August 6, 2022.

Why is it important for us to study the boundaries of the land that God gave Israel? The first reason is because it is a part of holy inspired Scripture. Secondly, because it is a land that has a special place in the heart of God. It is the land that God promised to give to the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The eyes of God are always upon that parcel of land (Deuteronomy 11:11,12). Not that God is indifferent to the rest of the earth; but He has created and given that particular piece of “real estate” to the Jewish nation as the “theater” for the plan of the redemption of mankind to be accomplished. Deuteronomy 32:8,9 says, “When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel. For the LORD's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.” Ezekiel 5:5 says, “This is Jerusalem: I have set it in the midst of the nations and countries that are round about her.” What a remarkable revelation! It is as if God planned the alignment of every other country on the planet around eretz (“the land of”) Israel, and in particular, the city of Jerusalem. In this lesson I would like to share some significant facts with you about this parcel of land that we have been covering over the past few weeks. I pray that God's Spirit will illuminate our eyes and set out hearts ablaze as we read some of the biblical passages about this land, and see how relevant they are to you and me this morning. Beloved, we are living in both troublesome and exciting times! Against all “odds”, Israel was declared a nation on May 14th, 1948. The prophet Isaiah said, “Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.” (Isaiah 66:8) In spite of numerous attempts to wipe out the Jewish people, the nation of Israel was “reborn”, so to speak, because as I said a moment ago, that piece of property would be the major theater for God's redemptive and prophetic plan. Why is it important to study and learn about the land of Israel? Because in doing so, we learn that our God is a promise-keeping God. Every square inch that Israel obtained in the Promised Land that we have been covering in the book of Joshua was because God is faithful to keep His promises. And what is the connection between what God promised Israel and you and me this morning? For those who repent of their sin and trust in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the cross for their sin debt and believe that He rose again from the dead, God declares: “And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.” (1 John 2:25) “And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. (Hebrews 9:15) All praise, and glory and honor be unto our God Who has promised His children that by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, they which are called will receive the promises of eternal life and an eternal inheritance. Are you thinking what we think you might be thinking? Hm. Zion. I know that word – it’s in the Bible. Isn’t it a mountain? No wait, is it a city? Or is it the Temple? I’m confused. How can I know what Christian Zionism is when I’m not even sure what Zion means? Never fear; in this episode of A Jew and A Gentile Discuss, Ezra and Carly clear that up at the beginning with a really cool analogy. Then, they discuss a common definition of Christian Zionism, analyzing it bit by bit to root out the Good, the Bad and where it can get downright Ugly. Along the Way As they explore various aspects of Christian Zionism, their conversation takes them to: What Scripture means when it says God stretches out His arm Before there was Christian Zionism, there was Jewish Zionism One of the main verses Christian Zionism springs from – and it’s part of “the Good” A “Messianic declaration” necessary for Jesus’ return How Israel’s regathering needs to also lead to Israel’s redemption Putting the shoe on the other foot – What if this attitude about Jewish people was the attitude toward your family? It’s part of “the Bad” that’s possible with Christian Zionism, and it can alienate us from each other Whichever way you look at this particular understanding of Christian Zionism – either from a Jewish perspective or Christian – it really belongs in “the Ugly” category A phrase that has become a trigger to Carly now A poorly-worded part of a Christian Zionism definition that, if carried out to its subtle conclusion, essentially aims to make Jewish people cease to exist in their own faith. Now that’s Bad! And Ugly! A “Really Ugly” thing that emerges out of a fear of the hot-button issue of the Gospel Words You Might Learn in This Episode Zion, Christian Zionism, Am Israel, Eretz Israel, Baruch haba bashem Adonai, aliyah Scriptures Referenced in This Episode Psalm 76:1–2, Psalm 87:2, Psalm 135:21, Psalm 51:18, Genesis 13:14–17, Deuteronomy 12:4–5, Ezra 6:12, Zechariah 14:8–9, Ezekiel 36:24, 2 Samuel 22:50–51, Ezra 3:11, Isaiah 54:10, Ezekiel 20:34, Ezekiel 11:16–17, Ezekiel 36:25, Matthew 23:37–39, Romans 11:25–27, Romans 3:25, John 1:29, John 14:6, Zechariah 14:2, Matthew 15:24, Galatians 3:28, Romans 3:23, Acts 4:12, Romans 11:17–24 Previous Episodes Mentioned Episode 15 – Israel: Promised Land and Political State Other Important Stuff May 2-8 is the 2022 Bless Israel 5K. In September, 1982, during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, the Israeli army took control of West Beirut and the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Chatillah. Bashir Gemayel, the leader of the Phalangist movement (Kataeb in Arabic), had just been assassinated. He had supported the Israelis in their invasion, hoping to free his land of the PLO and of Syrian domination. The individual convicted of the assassination was a Christian. He claimed he had acted because of Gemayel's support of Israel. Many people think Syria was behind the attack. Gemayel's followers were bent on revenge. The visible target was the Palestinian refugee camps. The PLO forces had been evacuated to Tunis by an American-brokered agreement. Part of that agreement was that the U. S. agreed to protect the Palestinian civilians who would be left without security. President Reagan's personal representative, Ambassador Phillip Habib, had negotiated the withdrawal of Palestinian forces and had guaranteed the security of the civilian refugees left behind in the camps. But there was extremely bad blood between the Phalangists and the PLO and this was an opportunity to get revenge for past offenses. The Israelis controlled access to those camps and allowed military units to enter. The killing went on for three days. There was a story in the Jerusalem Post as the massacres were going on. The sun was setting and a military rabbi was leading an outdoor religious service. There were sounds of shooting and screams in the distance. The Jerusalem Post said this will go down in history as the “Rosh Hashana of Shame.” Under domestic and international (i.e., U.S.) pressure, the Israelis set up a three-person commission headed by a very respected member of their high court, Justice Kahan. This is the story of that report. There are two award-winning films that might be of interest. One is an Israeli film called Waltz With Bashir, a graphic-novel type film. An officer is having nightmares of wild dogs. He starts talking to others in his unit. They are also having nightmares. It turns out they were all present during the massacres but they have suppressed what happened on their watch. The other film is The Insult, a Lebanese film. It starts with a simple confrontation between two men in which one calls the other a name. This happens many times every day without consequence so why does this incident escalate? It turns out the two parties are connected personally to these massacres. Even though this is decades later, the wounds are still there. On Sukkos we're judged regarding water. The basis of life, it plays a central role throughout the Torah: Eden, Sodom, Egypt and Eretz Israel are each defined by their water sources. In a cryptic statement about the unique mitzvos of Sukkos, Chazal allude to a little-known journey from the rivers of Eden to the waters of Sodom, and to the stream that will one day flow from the Holy Temple. Learn how Sukkos is part of this journey and why water is so pivotal to our relationship with Hashem.
