Marjie Kennedy replied to the Celtic Music Magazine feedback request: "I wanted to let you know that on March 17th I will be at the Hibernian parade in the Dogtown neighborhood of St. Louis Missouri. St. Louis has two parades each year because the Dogtown one is on March 17 every year, and the downtown St. Louis one is always the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day (unless the 17th falls on a Saturday, in which case I think they end up both being the same day). I will listen to your podcasts either before or after those festivities. And this past Sunday, March 12, I celebrated by including some Celtic music and other Irish tunes on the radio program that I host on KDHX.org called Lotsa A Cappella. Thanks for all you do for Celtic music!" Tera Bochik replied: "I'm usually driving around doing my patrol rounds as a security guard. Unfortunately I have to work on St. Patrick's day. (Missing the First Annual 20th World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day parade in Hot Springs, AR.) I celebrate by listening and sharing about the podcast to anyone who asks what I'm listening to." Von Rothenberger replied from Lucas, Kansas: "Happy Birthday! Erin Go Braugh! Thank you for all that you do." Rick Cunningham of Boxing Robin replied: "Hello Marc, Many thanks for including Boxing Robin on Vol 2 of the St. Patrick's Day podcast! Have fun at the gig tonight - we're playing 80 miles away but at least it's a fairly early gig! All the best. The second picture is what two pens I recently made looked like while they were still on the lathe at our local makerspace. Thanks for making the podcast! Thanks. I Usually work around the house. I especially like to listen while doing yard work." For St Patrick's Day? "Hanging at two of our favorite Irish pubs, drinking Guinness and Jameson, and listening to some great Irish bands. We constantly have Celtic music on in our house and we are planning a trip to Ireland this summer. Our trip three years ago got squashed due to the pandemic." Travis Senzaki replied: "Hi Marc, thank you for continuing to put out this podcast year after year! This St. Patrick's Day, the podcast is really my only connection to Celtic culture, so I'll be spending the evening listening with my kids. Over the years of listening, I have moved from the US to rural Japan, where there is no other access to my Irish roots. I have to travel to even find Guinness on tap. But thanks to you, my kids have picked up on Celtic music (or "Daddy's car music", as they call it) and even recognize it when some of the common themes find their way into movie or game music. I hope to continue sharing this music and culture with them as they grow older, and your podcast remains my best resource to do so. Thank you! Thanks again for all you do! I'm looking forward to listening to the St. Patrick's Day episode(s) over a glass, even if I have to pour it from a can. Slainte!" Sarah Shorter replied: "Good morning Marc. We are enjoying some autumn sunshine down in new zealand. I'm listening with my son (18 months old) and he loves the show. St Patrick's for us will be attending play centre (a parent run education centre) where we will be making shamrock fairy bread.( green sprinkles on buttered bread cut out with a cookie cutter) quite a conglomeration of celtic and new zealand cultures. We will also be bringing in a play list to share with the kids ( aged 0 to5 ) I'm just putting it together now starting from the best of 2022 and 2023 Playlist.. Kia Ora"

In the latest installment of our popular Six Degrees of Scotland series, we pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II by exploring her connections to Scotland and its people. Discover Balmoral Castle, the queen's paradise in the Scottish highlands. Learn why Elizabeth II was often more popular among Scots than the monarchy itself. And we'll look at how the queen's example of duty and morality inspired generations across Scotland and the rest of the UK. Along the way, enjoy music from Jocelyn Pettit, Elephant Sessions, Robyn Stapleton, and Breabach.

That picture was taken last year at the Old Crossing Treaty Park in northern Minnesota where we played at the Chautauqua and French - Canadian/Metis Festival. I'm not sure how many members there are but definitely more than a few. Hopefully you'll be getting more input from Australia soon. I'm a bit jealous you are in Scotland. BUY SELCOUTH BY MARC GUNN My latest CD features Sci F'Irish music. That means it is original songs fusing pop culture themes with Irish drinking songs. There are some traditional music on the album. But mostly, it features songwriting by Marc Gunn with guests including: Screeched Inn, The Muckers, Jamie Haeuser, Sam Gillogly, Nathan Deese, and Mikey Mason. Selcouth means, “when everything is strange and different, yet you find it marvelous anyway.” The album is not completely Celtic and it's not just science fiction and fantasy. It's a fusion of the two. It's heartfelt and a lot of fun. It's now on sale in my Bandcamp store. Check out Selcouth now. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! I've been listening for several years now and thought I'd finally reach out to let you know what I'm doing while listening. Most of the time, I'm studying anatomy. The music itself is far more calming to me than most other genres because it reminds me of hot summers of my childhood dancing for Trinity Irish Dance at Irish fests. No matter what, I always have paper and pen near by to write down the names of the amazing musicians showcased on this podcast. Thanks for widening my celtic musical world orld and keep it up! Slain! Maire P.S Thanks so much for pronouncing Celtic correctly!" Charlene Adzima emailed: "Hey there Marc, I'm Charlene Adzima, fiddler and singer with Wisconsin - based all - female Irish music trio, The Lilies of the Midwest. As the pandemic seems to be waning, we've been reaching out to venues, festivals, radio shows, and podcasts to let folks know that we have an authentic, energetic, and charming stage presence and we'd like to get known outside of our small part of the Midwest. Our core instrumentation is fiddle, concertina, and mandolin, with the occasional guest guitarist or percussionist. With our Ohio - based guitarist Rick Nelson, we recorded a 6 track EP called Flora, which we'd like to offer you to play on your podcast. Thanks much and all the best! " Peter Bengtson emailed: "Hi Mark, I was walking yesterday and tried to get on SeriusXM. Something was wrong and I couldn't get on. I got on your podcast - Episode 546 I think. Once that episode was over, another episode started. I listened to a total of 4 or 5 episodes. This works great for me. In the past, it seems that once the episode I listened to stopped, I had to go to start a new episode of Celtic Music or startup SeriusXM."
Frank Evans, banjo player with the wonderful Canadian bluegrass band The Slocan Ramblers joins us on Episode 636 of Folk Roots Radio to chat about their latest album “Up the Hill And Through The Fog”. They also picked up a Juno Award Nomination for their last album, the excellent Queen City Jubilee from 2018. The Slocan Ramblers will be touring extensively in Canada and elsewhere this summer. Every week Georgian Bay Roots shares the best music that's made in and played in Grey Bruce with a mix of roots music from across Canada and around the world thrown in. Send us tracks and requests to georgianbayroots@summerfolk.org This week we feature songs by Arrandale, Scarlett Jane, Greg Smith, Jimmy Pearson,Treasa Levasseur, Corb Lund, the Dry Bones, Jocelyn Pettit, James Hill, and Richard Garvey.
Includes a tribute to Allen Toussaint, who passed away this week. Tracks 24-30 were all written by him. Such good tunes and lyrics - and what a groove!! Also featured music from Caravan, the new CD by Jocelyn Pettit, Squamish fiddle prodigy who launches that CD this evening.
This week's show featured selections from the latest disc supplied with fRoots magazine, the esteemed English folk music publication that informs the content of most of my show - and has done ever since I started the show in 1985! I also previewed some of the artists coming to The Rogue in the next few weeks, including Buckman Coe, Linda McRae, Cannery Row, T. Nile, Sarah Jane Scouten, Dana Sipos, and Thad Beckman. I squeezed in some Remembrance Day songs, and some music acquired at the recent Celtic Colours Festival in Cape Breton. Also aired some music from the new (3 days old) CD by local fiddler Jocelyn Pettit, who launches that CD next weekend at The Rogue.
Welcome to another edition of Folk Oasis! This one focuses on the Festival du Bois, which returns to Mackin Park in Coquitlam Feb. 26 to March 1. Jocelyn Pettit, a young fiddler/stepdancer from Squamish, will be performing at the festival and was my featured interview this evening. Also prepare to be wowed by a track from "Les Yeux Noir", a French gypsy-klezmer outfit playing in Vancouver this weekend. It's still Heart Month, so take care of your ticker! Then it'll take care of you...As always, many thanks/gros merci for listening. Have a great rest of the week!val folkoasis@gmail.com
Back from Friendly Manitoba! Had a great time at the National Campus & Community Radio conference. So many bright, engaged folks involved in the same kind of programming that we offer here at CiTR. Thanks again to GAK for last week's podcast. This week, the usual mix of new (mostly Canadian) releases. Tonight's special live session featured 18 year-old fiddler and stepdancer Jocelyn Pettit, who lives in Squamish. Extremely engaging, poised and talented. Hope you enjoy this one - she did a great job.Until next time, enjoy summer (officially here this weekend!) and thanks again for listening.cheers, valfolkoasis@gmail.com
