Men, do you know who you are? Not just your name, not just your job title—but your lineage.Today, in Day 3 of our St. Joseph Lenten Series, we focus on one of his most overlooked but crucial titles: Noble Offspring of David. This isn't just about history—it's about your identity. St. Joseph wasn't just a humble carpenter. He was a direct descendant of King David, fulfilling God's divine plan. And guess what? So are you.In this episode, we break down:✔️ Why St. Joseph's royal lineage matters for Catholic men today ✔️ What true nobility looks like (hint: it's not about wealth, power, or status) ✔️ How your name and your actions define your legacy as a manThis episode is a wake-up call. You are not just another guy drifting through life. You are a son of God, called to lead, protect, and serve. Will you answer that call?3 Powerful Quotes from the Episode:"True nobility is not about power, fame, or fortune. It's about living in a way that reflects the goodness of God.""Men, we come from a royal lineage—spiritually and historically. Are we living up to it?""If you're not walking in step with God, you are failing as a man. Period."Key Takeaway for Men:

The Eads Bridge, opened in 1874, is the oldest functioning bridge across the Mississippi River. This St. Louis crossing, named after its designer/builder, James Eads, pioneered the use of steel, then a new material; the construction of long-span arches without falsework; and deep underwater foundations. Eads himself led the creation of an elaborate international financing scheme to pay for the bridge and promising large profits for its investors. Today the Eads Bridge carries 4 lanes of road traffic and the Metrolink light rail line. Bringing us the history of this National Historic Landmark is John K. Brown, whose recent book, Spanning the Gilded Age; James Eads and the Great Steel Bridge, presents this story in detail, addressing financing of the economic expansion of the post-Civil War United States; the self-dealing and conflicting interests of the banking, railroad, construction, and materials industries of the time; as well the beginning of an integrated, standardized U.S. rail network. John is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Science, Technology, and Society at the University of Virginia. He earned three degrees in history: a BA from Emory and MA and PhD degrees from University of Virginia.

I play solo at Hugh O'Neill's in Malden, and several shows with my bandmates, The Boston Harbor Bhoys (Waltham Sr. Center, Medford's Ford Tavern, Framingham Elks fundraiser, Quincy's Assembly, and Boston's Green Dragon). So many songs, so many memories. I loved playing Hugh O'Neill's, where a table of young people requested The Saw Doctor's "N17" and ran out from their tables on the refrain each time to shout out "and the grass is green!". To the Sr Center in Waltham where the ENTIRE room of 100 people got all the hand - claps right on "Wild Rover" by the 2nd refrain, and the beautiful emotions expressed from our rendition of Danny Boy. To guests at the Framingham elks getting up to do all the dance moves to "The unicorn song", to seeing old fans from the South Shore of Boston that we haven't seen in 4 years requesting "Raglan Road", to jumping around The Green Dragon with my harmonica and tambourine leading hand claps on 'Finnegan's Wake" getting the whole bar clapping together. Agh, it was all so wonderful, went through a range of song styles and eras in the Celtic music catalogue, and it was wonderful connecting with audiences from the 20's up to their 90's, who all appreciated the music and experience in their own ways. It was one for the books! “

This St. Patrick's Day, Paul and Dan discuss the rich history of Irish myths, legends, and stories in the D&D game. From Druids and Bards to the Banshees and Firbolg, what are some of the best ways to spice up your game with inspirations from the Emerald Isle? Irish mythology is the body of myths indigenous to the island of Ireland. It was originally passed down orally in the prehistoric era. In the early medieval era, some myths were transcribed by Christian monks, who heavily altered and Christianised the myths. Irish mythology is the best-preserved branch of Celtic mythology. The main supernatural beings in Irish mythology are the Túatha Dé Danann ("the folk of the goddess Danu"), also known by the earlier name Túath Dé ("god folk" or "tribe of the gods"). Early medieval Irish writers also called them the fir dé (god-men) and cenéla dé (god-kindreds), possibly to avoid calling them simply 'gods'. They are often depicted as kings, queens, bards, warriors, heroes, healers and craftsmen who have supernatural powers and are immortal. Prominent members include The Dagda ("the great god"); The Morrígan ("the great queen" or "phantom queen"); Lugh; Nuada; Aengus; Brigid; Manannán; Dian Cécht the healer; and Goibniu the smith. They are also said to control the fertility of the land; the tale De Gabáil in t-Sída says the first Gaels had to establish friendship with the Túath Dé before they could raise crops and herds. They dwell in the Otherworld but interact with humans and the human world. Many are associated with specific places in the landscape, especially the sídhe: prominent ancient burial mounds such as Brú na Bóinne, which are entrances to Otherworld realms. The Túath Dé can hide themselves with a féth fíada ('magic mist'). They are said to have travelled from the north of the world, but then were forced to live underground in the sídhe after the coming of the Irish. When Louis Damani Jones speaks, one can't help but feel the warmth of his heart and the depth of his spiritual journey envelop the room. This St. Louis psychotherapist brings to our latest podcast episode a rich tapestry of childhood experiences within an intentional community, the pull of activism, and the complexities of faith that have shaped his life. His candid recounting of this journey reveals the emotional resonance of sacred music and the spiritual guidance received from a Coptic priest, which would ultimately challenge and deepen his understanding of Christianity. Louis' narrative is a testament to the powerful role of tradition and liturgical practices in shaping one's faith and the unexpected paths that lead us back home.As our conversation unfolds, we learn of Louis' internal struggle between the tenets of Eastern Orthodoxy and Catholicism, a conflict that finds resolution through his study of early church councils and the pivotal Tome of Leo. With a renewed embrace of Catholicism, Louis discusses the integration of Eastern spiritual disciplines into his practice of faith and offers insights into the active role of charity within the church. His reflection on the challenges of reentering the Catholic community, coupled with the practical advice he offers for those seeking to deepen their spiritual journey, makes this episode a beacon for anyone navigating the waters of faith, identity, and service. Support the show

And for Patrick's Day? "Probably the same as I do for any other day (being 73 years old, single and living alone having lost contact with all my friends due to those infernal lockdowns we had in Melbourne." He's celebrating "By just listening to your great podcasts each time they are issued and remembering back to my days as an energetic Scottish (yes, not Irish) Country Dancer and Highland dancer (not so good at the Highland stuff…LOL). I still have a kilt in my closet (a bit moth eaten now) which I ceased fitting into about 30 years ago. Keep up your great sessions, and I look forward to (I hope) a bonus session. Slainte!"

For St Patrick's Day?  "Hanging at two of our favorite Irish pubs, drinking Guinness and Jameson, and listening to some great Irish bands. We constantly have Celtic music on in our house and we are planning a trip to Ireland this summer.  Our trip three years ago got squashed due to the pandemic." Travis Senzaki replied: "Hi Marc, thank you for continuing to put out this podcast year after year! This St. Patrick's Day, the podcast is really my only connection to Celtic culture, so I'll be spending the evening listening with my kids. Over the years of listening, I have moved from the US to rural Japan, where there is no other access to my Irish roots. I have to travel to even find Guinness on tap. But thanks to you, my kids have picked up on Celtic music (or "Daddy's car music", as they call it) and even recognize it when some of the common themes find their way into movie or game music. I hope to continue sharing this music and culture with them as they grow older, and your podcast remains my best resource to do so. Thank you! Thanks again for all you do! I'm looking forward to listening to the St. Patrick's Day episode(s) over a glass, even if I have to pour it from a can. Slainte!" Sarah Shorter replied: "Good morning Marc. We are enjoying some autumn sunshine down in new zealand. I'm listening with my son (18 months old) and he loves the show. St Patrick's for us will be attending play centre (a parent run education centre) where we will be making shamrock fairy bread.( green sprinkles on buttered bread cut out with a cookie cutter) quite a conglomeration of celtic and new zealand cultures. We will also be bringing in a play list to share with the kids ( aged 0 to5 ) I'm just putting it together now starting from the best of 2022 and 2023 Playlist.. Kia Ora"

Bill Connelly began his life in the sports business as an Athletic Trainer for the Cincinnati Stingers of the World Hockey Association and wrapped it up as a Special Projects Manager for FC Cincinnati of Major League Soccer. However, the majority of his storied career was spent with the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League - where he retired in 2017 as the team's Director of Operations. This St. Clairsville, Ohio native was inspired to pursue the sports business after the brutality of a full team "pile on tackle" in High School inspired him to switch his focus to become an Athletic Trainer (versus a full-contact Athlete). While a student at The Ohio State University, he had the opportunity to learn his craft under the staff of Coach Woody Hayes, which led to an introduction to the Bengals founder and legendary icon of football - Paul Brown. Over his 41-year career with the Bengals, Bill rose from Assistant Trainer to eventually becoming the Director of Operations for the team. He was described by the Bengals during his retirement celebration as the "Churchill of the Stadium" - doing any and all jobs to assure Bengals success, both on and off the field. After retiring from the Bengals, Bill assumed the role of Special Projects Manager for FC Cincinnati, successfully working with the startup soccer Club to design and operate TQL Stadium and the Mercy Health Training Center - both heralded as the finest Soccer Stadium and Training Centers in North America. Bill is well known throughout the NFL and MLS communities as a team player, problem solver, mentor, advocate, and friend to all. He is a proud father, husband, and grandfather. He and his wife Terri reside in Cincinnati and Norris Lake, Tennessee.

The poem is titled “A Returned Soldier's Lament” I've renamed the song 1924 partly because I have made small changes to the text  -  and have added a verse,  but also the date is really significant to the meaning of the words.  The poem references WW1 from that date: being 6 years after the war ended, 9 years after the majority of the ANZAC troops joined the war and 8 years after their greatest involvement and losses both at Gallipoli and all along the Western front. Oh  -  and it's going to be on our next duo album that will be out sometime this year.  Caveat warning, however; -   we're so busy doing a load of other things  -  including the beginnings of a new Purcells Polyphonic Party album as well as festivals and folk clubs and recording for TV and games…. that any plan for launching is going to have to be quite  vague. 44:20 - Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer "1924" 50:12 - THANKS 51:48 - Paddyman "The Best Pub Party in the World" from One for the Road 54:36 - Kellys Wayke "Walk the Mile" from Kellys Wayke 58:10 - the commoners "What's Your Whiskey For" from What's Your Whiskey For 1:01:42 - Michael Maloney "'Round the Mountains of Mourne" from January Hopeful 1:05:32 - CLOSING 1:07:11 - The Druids "South Australia" 1:09:35 - CREDITS The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast was produced by Marc Gunn, The Celtfather and our Patrons on Patreon. This St. Patrick's day I don't really have plans but will definitely have corned beef for supper. I may get ambitious and make a coddle or stew at some point. I eat up all I can about it I.e. the language, music, movies and pictures and culture. Some things don't fit well with multitasking...you fit into that category. Onward" Michael Corbett emailed: "Hi Marc! This is Michael from Seldom Sober.  You were a great supporter of ours when we released our last CD in 2019.  I'm sorry to tell you that Colleen, the other half of Seldom Sober, is having health problems. It would really lift her spirits for you to play one of her tune sets.  Since our last CD was 4 years ago it doesn't get much attention anymore, but she loves hearing that we're being played around the world.  We were actually big in New Zealand when the CD first came out.  Just let me know which episode it's on.  She knows I listen to your podcast, so I'll just tell her I heard it Thanks for your consideration!  Please keep up the good work!  You sponsored the main stage at the Savannah Irish Festival in 2019, and we appreciate that!”

This bike comes with the Milwaukee-Eight 117 ci air/oil cooled V-Twin engine with a heavy breather, making around 106 horsepower and 126 ft. lbs. of torque. That was apparent when I got into the power band at around 3500 rpm. The bike has plenty of get up and go and you can easily pass and get around slower traffic.  This bike was inspired by the King of the Baggers series and you should really check it out if you haven't. This ST sits an inch higher than a Harley Street Glide Special model, which makes it the same height as models such as the Ultra Limited. This provides for more lean angle on the ST model and I found that to be the case during my testing. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Harley was able to shave 13 lbs off the Street Glide ST in comparison to a Street Glide Special model, making the ST weigh in at around 814 lbs in operating condition. Some of the weight savings are because the Harley Street Glide ST only comes with a solo seat and has no passenger pegs but you can add both after purchase. The saddlebags are also squared off and don't contour the mufflers like on the special models.  Law Abiding Biker Podcast Episode #295: The Harley Street & Road Glide ST-Guests Paul James, Bjorn Shuster, and Eric Buckhouse of Harley-Davidson The Street Glide ST has a 19-inch front tire and 18-inch rear tire, 49 mm dual bending valve front forks, premium standard height (13 inch) hand-adjustable rear suspension, dual front and single disc rear brakes, 6 speed transmission, Boom Box GTS Infotainment System, and 6 gallon fuel tank. The ST gets 41 mpg in premium operating conditions. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The Harley Street Glide ST is a great foundation if you are going to build it out as more of a hot rod. It was designed for weight, power, and performance and for it to be faster, more nimble, and have more lean angle. And, for the first time you get that CVO power train in a non-CVO bike The ST is really a blank canvas for performance parts and you could easily make the Milwaukee Eight 117 ci engine a 131 ci engine with a stage four kit. There are plenty of OEM Harley performance parts for the Street Glide ST to include Ohlins suspension.  And as always, you'll get an honest review on this website and on our YouTube Channel. Yes, Harley loaned me the bike but in no way was I paid for this review and Harley has never told me what or what I cannot say or I simply would not do these reviews.  NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: A Real World Harley Street Glide ST Ride and Review Pros: I really liked the stock stereo system with the Boom Box GTS Infotainment System with two-way speakers and it was pretty loud and clear, even when traveling at freeway speeds with a full-face helmet. During the time we had the ST we did a Boss Audio Stereo/Amp Kit install on another bike and tested it against the stock Harley system. Of course, the Boss Audio system was much louder.  I like that the Harley Street Glide ST sits an inch higher for that extra lean angle and I really liked the look of the differing front fender.  I am 5'-08" tall and the bike fit me fine and I was flat footed when stopped with plenty of bend in my knees. The stock seat was pretty comfortable and has a nice curve up in the back, keeping you in the saddle when rolling the throttle and giving some lower back support. But, if I was long distance touring I'd replace the seat.  The stock suspension performed very well, even when on a gravel road with potholes.   Cons:  The Boom Box Infotainment System does not come with a WHIM (Wireless Headset Interface Module) out of the factory. The WHIM allows you to have Bluetooth headset connectivity with the Boom Box while using a Harley branded Sena wireless headset. You need this to activate both Apple Car Play and Android Auto. You can also use a Harley branded 7 pin wired headset instead. If you want any wireless headset functionality though, you'll have to add a WHIM during or after your purchase. I think that all Harley's with the Boom Box should come stock with the WHIM like the CVO models do.  The Harley Street Glide ST comes with a LED headlight and taillight but the front and rear signals are still halogens.  Lurch is 6'-4" tall and also test rode this bike. He reported that his shin was up against the heavy breather and that he'd have to change that out immediately with a lower profile air intake. He'd also move the floorboards forward, install an extended brake pedal, and install taller handlebars.  Final Thoughts: Really, the question is whether you spend the extra $2,500 on the Harley Street Glide ST or save it by buying a Street Glide Special.  I'd say that if you are really looking to have a hot rod of a bike, add many performance parts, and really push it in the corners then the ST should be your choice.  If you're looking to do more relaxed riding, tour long distances, and maybe have a passenger, the Street Glide Special is all set up for that upon purchase with a passenger seat and pegs and is $2,500 less. But, it does have the smaller Milwaukee-Eight 114 ci engine with a few less horsepower and overall torque. It's still a great engine and has plenty of power for most.   With that said, make no mistake about it, the Harley Street Glide ST would be awesome too for long distance touring if you set it up with a passenger seat and pegs. Overall, I can say that you will not be disappointed if you buy the Harley Street Glide ST and it was a dream to ride. Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! Their war on fossil fuels at all costs coupled with trillions in spending has created record high inflation, gas prices and global instability.  Fox Business host Charles Payne offers a razor-sharp rebuttal to Faux-cahontas' claims that greedy, big business is to blame for your price increases.  Have you heard what the Biden administration is doing to bully your bank now?  The Treasurer of West Virginia Riley Moore sounds the alarm on what he and red-state treasurers are doing to fight back.  Plus Hot Air's Ed Morrissey discusses the political sinking ship that is the Democrats while he and Stigall discuss what Republicans need to do to capitalize this year for a big win in November.

It's that time of year when the whole world turns green and all eyes are on the island of Ireland. So what film classic have we chosen to mark St. Patrick's Day this year? The classic John Ford film THE QUIET MAN, showcasing the Duke's on screen chemistry with our own Maureen O'Hara? Nah. DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE, a film that traumatised generations of Irish schoolchildren with it's depiction of the Banshee and Death Coach (and Sean Connery singing). Nope. This St. Patrick's Day we wanted to shine a light on the 2012 Horror Sci-Fi film GRABBERS. Imagine if John Carpenter set THE THING on Craggy Island and was everyone was drunk.

What did Christianity look like at the edge of the world? In a land of wildness and deep magic, a land where the spirit world was known to be nearer and less controllable than many wanted to believe, Christianity took root by matching wildness to wildness, by overwhelming and directing these magical impulses to their proper ends. This St. Patrick's Day, Fr. Hayden and I revisit the story of St. Patrick and the form of Christianity that emerged from his mission to the Irish, asking if this might be the spiritual tradition we most need in our own time. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and on this episode, Bishop talks about the patron saint of mental health...St. Dymphna. Born in Ireland in the 7th century, she was killed by her mentally unstable father when she was just 15. She is now known for her intercession for those suffering from mental disorders. Then we also celebrate the Feast of St. Christopher this month...but not St. Christopher, patron saint of travelers. This St. Christopher was canonized in 2000 and was marytred because of his membership in the Cristero movement. The show wraps up with Bishop's reflection on Pentecost Sunday.

This week we're diving even deeper into the world of everything St. Patrick's Day with the most Irish person we know (and one of our oldest friends), Margaret Moore! She'll explain what it means to her to be Irish and how to respectfully celebrate everyone's favorite day to drink (hint: it doesn't involve a Kiss Me I'm Irish t-shirt or shamrock sunglasses). We suggest you put on your Irish sweater, listen to some bagpipes, and truly get to know the reason for the season. And grab a Guinness while you're at it.Some articles to learn about Irish culture:PRAOH.org - The Forgotten Saint PatrickPRAOH.org - The Penal LawsTheIrishStory.com - The Easter Rising of 1916PRAOH.org - The First Bloody Sunday: Jim Larkin and the Dublin Lockout 1913Lohud.com - This St. Patrick's Day honors 'heroes of 1916'NYTimes.com - CITY LORE; For the Irish, Dancing Days Are Here AgainYouTube.com - Mary Holt Moore "I Am of Irish America"AOH.com - Wren Night
