With the start of a new year upon us, many of us are inclined to have new year resolutions, or "from now on" resolutions that aim to improve our lives. However, we should look to God constantly for direction to implement change or improvement, because he is always providing us with the potential to do so, but it is up to us to take action and unlock that potential ourselves.

In Episode 151 of The A&P Professor podcast, host Kevin Patton is joined by Jennifer Stokes, Rachel Hopp, and Abbey Breckling to discuss the Anatomy and Physiology Student Accommodations Handbook. This handbook released by the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), provides instructors with evidence-based suggestions and best practices for making A&P labs and classrooms more inclusive and accessible for all students. Developed by a HAPS subcommittee, the handbook offers guidance on accommodating students with a wide range of needs, from physical limitations to visual or hearing impairments. The goal is to help instructors identify meaningful alternatives to standard lab protocols that promote student success. The handbook is organized by common accommodation requests and includes sections on universal design principles, making accommodations for temporary conditions, and incorporating tactile and visual aids. Lisa Phillips is a model, actress, survivor, and victim advocate who has spent much of her life all over the world. While cultivating a career in the modeling and acting industries, Lisa even found herself overseas and as a guest on Jeffrey Epstein's private island. That specific trip would become quite traumatic for Lisa, and although she would never return to the property again, she would soon be trafficked into a vast and widespread ring that enabled mass sexual assault. However, it wouldn't be until after navigating the legal system and sharing her story with other survivors of the same serial abuser, that Lisa truly was confronted by the depth of her trauma. There are two truths I want you to hold at once. The first truth is that you have no time to waste being someone you're not. I recently interviewed this young entrepreneur named Nicolas Kirkland, and he said something that stuck with me — “Why do you gotta act like everybody else? Everybody else is taken.” We're either on the hamster wheel of trying to fit in or we've slipped into the sinkhole of mistaking someone else's dream for our own. Related note: One of my absolute favorite musical tunes is “From Now On” performed by Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman. He lets his father-in-law and insecurity about growing up poor corrupt his ambitions, and he quickly finds himself living the life of a two-faced businessman. Somehow he lost touch with who he was at the start. But it wasn't too late to turn things around. You can call it “fake it to make it” or couch it in that old saying, “dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” These truths could be mistaken for a contradiction, one demanding authenticity and another promoting inauthenticity, but it all depends on how honest you're being with yourself about who you're meant to be. None of us come into the world born the way we'd like to eventually leave the world. We are in a process of becoming. Maybe you've looked at the sky on a clear night and spotted the International Space Station, a tiny white dot gliding through the stars. Maybe it felt special, a rare glimpse of a human-made satellite in space. But what if you were to look up at the sky and see more visible satellites than stars? What if the Big Dipper and Orion were drowned out by  a satellite traffic jam, criss-crossing through space? A growing number of astronomers are sounding the alarm about such a possibility, even within the next decade. A new space race is already well underway. Commercial satellite traffic in low Earth orbit has skyrocketed in recent years, with more satellites launched into space than ever before. Maureen R replied: "St. Patrick's Day is a family day, starting with donuts, then Mass at St. Colman, one of the oldest churches in Cleveland, that for decades had supported a largely Irish immigrant neighborhood. This Mass is the start of the day for the West Side Irish American Club. The dignitaries and club marching units from pipes and drums to tiny pom pom "Bridgies" march into the church with all the regalia of the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. Parts of Mass are read in Irish Gaelic, and familiar Irish songs and readings are shared. The lighting in the church is changed to green uplights and the hall is filled wall to wall with families in Irish sweaters and Irish pride. After Mass and the marching units parade out of the church, everyone heads to downtown Cleveland for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade, one of the largest of its kind in the U.S. and one of the only St. Patrick's Day parades that is always held ON the day. After the parade, families disperse to the many parties all around town. After marching in the parade, I will head off to entertain the crowds with my band, Ballinloch for the last performance of a two week non - stop Irish adventure."

Like many people, it was online that she first learned about the Asbury revival. Karla Jay  01:30 I just thought, oh, you know, these are people that probably want attention or just want to say that you know, the spirit is being poured over them. Peterson Toscano  01:40 On February 8 2023, after an on campus chapel service, a group of Asbury students decided to stay in the chapel to pray and sing. For the next two weeks students, community members and visitors from around the USA attended impromptu worship services. During that time classes were suspended online and in the media, people called it an outpouring of the Holy Spirit or the Asbury revival. According to Inside Higher Ed, "Asbury is part of the Wesleyan theological tradition, which emphasizes transformational encounters with the Holy Spirit." This year during the two weeks of nearly constant prayer and worship, over 50,000 visitors joined the students. Karla Jay was not interested in traveling the three hours to the Asbury campus. But her sister, who Karla doesn't get to see often, proposed they meet up and visit together. Karla shared with me what she saw and heard. And she reflects on what revival means to her. Karla Jay  02:47 It wasn't hard to find; the campus is not that big. We found it, and we saw that it will be a while before we got in. There was maybe 2000 people outside at the time we went there. Being already suspicious of what was happening, I was looking for like, are there any other Latinos? Are there other Black people here, you know, people that are different from regular white people? Or is this just like a white people movement? There was some other Latinos maybe not as many as I would have liked there to be. But there were some other Latinos in the crowd. The majority of the crowd was white.  Karla Jay  03:28 We waited about 45 minutes to get in. And in the meantime, an usher came in. He asked us, What did we need? And what were we doing there? Like, did we come for anything in particular? And we said, we just came to feel the presence and to be here. He said, Are there any needs that you have that you would like me to pray for you? And we said just that we feel the presence that he prayed for us, that we may feel the presence and that we may be blessed?   Karla Jay  04:03 It was just very quiet, even though there was music being played in the background. The worship leaders weren't not really leading people into worship. They were there. There was background music, people were praying, some people were singing to the music that was being played. Some people, if they felt like it, they went up and gave testimony. People were allowed to go in and out as they felt led. It almost felt like in a programed Meeting for Worship with background music. It wasn't organized. It was spontaneous.  Karla Jay  04:44 We were there for about an hour and a half. And I felt like we had only been there for 15 minutes. I didn't feel bored or anxious then. I usually feel that in a lot of church meetings, I'm bored. I'm anxious that I want to leave. I believe I've already sang these hymns before. I probably already heard that sermon before, whether the person that I'm listening to is new, but I probably already heard the sermon in some way or another. I did not feel that at Asbury. I just felt like there was peace there. And that whatever was happening, a genuine experience for most of the people there.  Karla Jay  05:26 Growing up Evangelical and Holiness, I did see adults making a plea for a revival to happen. But I'd never seen them asking for repentance or turning around. The church has been asking for revival to happen. But at the same time, I don't see many leaders of the church recognizing the sins that the church has been a part of . And some of that sin has to do with issues of justice. What I saw in Asbury is that this movement, or it might be too soon to call it revival, but this outpouring happen in very young people. I mean, these are college kids, they're not older than I don't know, twenty-three. They don't have any influence. They don't have any positions of power. This spontaneous worship happened among them. It didn't happen and an older generation that is not recognizing the sins and you know, like, the younger generation, it's been more honest about the injustice that is happening in this country. That might have something to do with you know, recognizing that not everyone in this country has the same justice and being able to recognize that and be able to say we are going to make a difference. I think that in itself is the movement of the Holy Spirit. God is not going to do an outpouring, and people that are not repenting and calling for justice in this country. If they're not calling against racism, if they're not calling against misogyny, the Holy Spirit is not going to move  in that. Our relationship with God also has to do with a relationship with others around us and how we seek justice for our brothers and sisters. My name is Anthony Kirk, I use he/him pronouns. I live in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and I am currently the pastor of Klamath Falls friends church. I use it for Transgender Day of Visibility events, and I share it with those who are exploring their identity, exploring their gender, their sexuality, and wondering, Well, where do I fit? And it's the beautiful reminder that God knew us since our conception, as we were formed, God knew us and loved us and created us long before society put labels on us and made assumptions. And thank you for the query. It helped me think through what it is that starts my day. After reading today books in the luxury of my bed without hot coffee and a dog, I go for movement in the fresh air. This morning I swept the desk with a sturdy broom while the pollen was still damp so the mask wasn't needed. Some mornings I'd like to scoop leaves or rake or follow the dog around the meadow. But breathing and moving awakens my body and pulls things together. I add a little yoga, maybe a hot shower, but the thing is the motion of leaving my body with the breath that gathers my mind, body and spirit into the center. And there I can face today. One of the 20 Republican members of Congress who have been backing GOP challengers to U.S. Representative Kevin McCarthy's bid to become Speaker of the House is also one of Gwinnett's three congressional representatives. U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde a Republican, is the only member of Georgia's congressional delegation who is backing U.S. Representative Byron Donalds, a Florida Republican, in the speaker vote. As of Wednesday afternoon, Congress had voted six times over a span of two days to elect a speaker, but none of the three candidates — including one Democrat — have received the 218 votes needed to become speaker. Republicans make up a narrow majority in the House, but McCarthy, who has been a house minority leaders for years, has been 17 votes shy of the total needed because 20 Republicans aligned with the Freedom Caucus have chosen to support other Republicans for the speaker's seat. On Wednesday, the group of Republicans refusing to back McCarthy, which also include Representatives Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert, pooled their support around Donalds. Congress can't conduct any other business, including swearing in its members and setting rules for the chamber, until a speaker is chosen, leaving the chamber unable to function. This is the first time in a century that a vote on selecting a speaker has gone to multiple ballots. In truth, all three of Gwinnett's congressional representatives are backing a different person in the speaker vote. As expected, Representative Lucy McBath, a Democrat, is backing her party's nominee for the seat, Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York. It's how the two Republican members of Congress who represent he northern half of Gwinnett vote that is key, however. While Clyde is backing Donalds, new Representative Rich McCormick, also Republican, is backing McCarthy. Prior to the four rounds of voting on Wednesday, when he began supporting Donalds, Clyde backed Representative Andy Biggs, of Arizona in the first round of voting on Tuesday, before moving his support to Representative Jim Jordan, of Ohio — even though Jordan himself was backing McCarthy. Although it wasn't necessarily a vacation, the Brookwood High School Bronco Marching Band recently completed a history-making holiday sojourn to Southern California. On January 2, the Bronco Marching Band performed in the iconic Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif., the first high school ensemble from Gwinnett County to take part in the parade, which has been a holiday tradition for more than 130 years. A collection of more than 330 people, including 215 performers, family and friends made the trip to California. It typically takes a bad 7 to 8 years to be selected after they apply to perform in the parade. Brookwood had originally applied to take part in the 2018 parade but the COVID pandemic prevented an earlier trip. Students had to raise about $2,800 each for the trip, which also included visits to Disneyland (where a New Year's Eve parade performance in the park was scuttled due to the weather), Universal Studios, the El Capitan Theatre (where they saw “Avatar: The Way of Water”), the Griffith Observatory and a walking tour of Hollywood movie locations. The parade itself appears both thrilling and exhausting, covering some 5.5 miles, starting at the corner of Green Street and Orange Blossom Boulevard and heading to its conclusion on Villa Street in the City of Roses. Slotted fifth in a parade of 88 participants, the Bronco Marching Band (one of only 15 high school marching bands in the parade) performed “From Now On” from “The Greatest Showman” for the first mile and then played the song in rotation with Strauss' “Also Sprach Zarathustra” and “The Hey! Song” from “Dr. Who.” The Bronco Marching Band also performed in the 42nd annual Tournament of Roses Bandfest at Pasadena City College on December 30. Two Norcross residents have been arrested and charged with murder in the death of the Norcross man who was found dead near the doorway of his home last month. Nelson Cisneros died near his home on Stanfield Court in unincorporated Norcross on December 15. At the time, police said he had been shot but they had not identified suspects or a motive for Cisneros' death. On Wednesday, however, Master Police Officer Hideshi Valle said detectives identified Norcross residents Requel Rayshawn Johnson, and Antonio Montez Payne , as suspects. They have each been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. Gwinnett County Jail records show Johnson was arrested on December 27 and Payne was arrested on Tuesday. Valle said the Gwinnett County Police Department's Gang Unit as well as the Gwinnett Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit assisted detectives in arresting Johnson and Payne. The suspects are being held in the county jail without bond. Police have not yet released the motive for the murder. Rebekah Blankenship, an eighth grade social studies teacher at Berkmar Middle School, was recently named a recipient of the June Bryant Teacher of Promise Award by the Georgia Council for Social Studies. The award recognizes a beginning social studies teacher who shows exceptional promise in the field of teaching social studies. Recipients of the honor must demonstrate efforts toward the improvement of student learning and engagement in social studies and implement activities that demonstrate the beginnings of service and foster the development of democratic values and citizenship in the classroom, school, and community. Additionally, the teacher seeks out and uses multiple sources to enhance social studies instruction while engaging in ongoing professional development. During her first two years of teaching, Blankenship has demonstrated the ability to develop and implement engaging lessons for students, her principal said. Encouraging special-needs students to become part of the fabric of Jones Middle School has been a priority for Jaclyn Boyce and Ashley Saye for more than a dozen years, but the special-education teachers have cranked it up a notch for the 2022-23 school year. Boyce, who teaches students with severe and profound intellectual disabilities, and Saye, who teaches students with moderate intellectual disabilities, are both firm believers in getting their charges out of the classroom and into the general student population in an effort to improve their sense of belonging at the Buford school by participating in daily activities. Starting 13 years ago with the establishment of the Buddies Club, Boyce and Saye developed a host of initiatives to get their students out and about in the halls and they're constantly seeking out new opportunities for the students to interact with their schoolmates. Buddies Club also includes monthly social events taking place both in and outside of the school walls, with visits to a nearby corn maze and movie theaters as highlights. Other inclusive efforts include having students serve on the student council and as peer leaders, which Saye said gives students a chance to develop and display leadership skills and boost confidence alongside their same-age peers. Some students — there are about 15 intellectually disabled students at Jones Middle — also visit home rooms to interact with students and teachers, help out in the school's media center, eat lunch in the cafeteria (or invite students to dine with them in their classrooms) and take part in Connections classes, which Boyce said provides great opportunities for social experiences. Perhaps the most novel recent initiative has been “JonesDash,” based on the popular DoorDash food delivery service. Several times a week, faculty members place orders for snacks and drinks and students do the rest, writing receipts, tracking down the items requested in the school's small “store,” delivering the orders to teachers and collecting payments. She had found a kitten in the engine compartment of her truck. A tiny, terrified, little thing we figured was about 7 weeks old. The neighbor couldn't keep her (allergies), so we took her in. On the way to her doctor's appointment I played the show, hoping to calm her down. It did not work. Aside from a minor ear infection, and being a bit thin for her age, she was given a clean bill of health. I now have a new baby, little Minka. And thank the gods, she's finally putting on some weight. And I think she likes the show, since when I was cooking recently she tried to climb up my leg. But really that was either your playlist or the bacon. Any way, your work has been the soundtrack for the arrival of a new bundle of joy into my life. I will try to send a picture of sweet Minka." From Now On is an idiom. This phrase does not have any special story for how it originated. It came to be used regularly as a part of the English language. The only misconception is that some people thinks it means “immediately” but it means more of “starting from now”. From Now On does not deny the past or the present, no it makes a declaration in the face of the past and the present. From Now On is our proclamation!

Sue Thaden founded Client Resources Inc., a women-owned IT talent and solutions business in 1999, growing to employ over 180 IT professionals with clients across numerous industries and geographies. Its innovation lab has spun out other successful endeavors, including From Now On, a sports and event based marketing and communication platform working with more than 100 U.S. college & athletic departments, college conferences and NCAA Championship events to drive fan engagement. In our recent conversation, Sue talks about the genesis of this business, the nature of entrepreneurship, as well as her personal character and journey as a female founder and leader, especially in a world where female-forward attitudes are in the minority.

Many ecologists now believe that trees are in constant communication with their surroundings. Linguists may roll their eyes at claims of ‘talk,' or ‘language.'
