Guest post by Shiran Mlamdovsky Somech, who is the founder of Listen to My Voice, an award-winning, AI-based media campaign against domestic violence, a social tech entrepreneur, and an AI Impact Leader at tech companies. Shiran harnesses her passions for creativity, technology, and humanity by leveraging generative AI for good through global, diverse projects. She also has a years-long experience in volunteering to help women at risk. Shiran graduated from the Kellogg Executive MBA program at Northwestern University. I would like to share with you how we used generative AI creatively to create social impact and battle domestic violence, and give you some inspiration and practical tools based on that experience. Generative AI and social impact Developing an idea I come from the high-tech industry. Throughout my whole career I have been working with cutting-edge technologies and supporting entrepreneurial women as well as women at risk. The idea of the campaign came to me as a result of several circumstances. First, working at Drive TLV, an innovation center for smart mobility and sustainability, brought me into contact with a truly avant-garde generative AI tech company D-ID, that enables businesses and creators to generate photorealistic digital presenters from text and still photos. Second, while working with D-ID, I met a survivor of domestic violence. Her husband tried to kill her but she survived and shared her story with the whole country. By doing so, she dramatically increased the awareness of domestic violence. In addition, at the same time period, I was introduced to the Michal Sela Forum, which encouraged the use of technology in combating domestic violence. The survivor's story led me to the thought that, tragically, the women who were murdered cannot be heard. But if they could be, what would they say? As a result of this chain of thoughts, an idea popped into my head: these murdered women needed a voice! This is how the Listen to my voice, Listen to Your Voice AI-based media campaign was born. At that moment, I was unsure of whether this was a brilliant idea or an insane one! I shared it with my colleagues at D-ID and with a friend who was the managing partner of DIBOOR advertising agency. Luckily, they all supported it, and from this point on, I had a mission. To dedicate myself to it, I quit my job and together we created a truly life-saving campaign. What we did and how we are combating domestic violence Using D-ID's AI technology, we ''brought back to life'' five very different Israeli women who were murdered by their partners. We animated and dubbed their still photos to create a ''video'' of them telling their own story. To show that domestic violence can happen to anyone, anywhere, we chose victims from different backgrounds in terms of age, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. These videos went viral thanks to their powerful message and the illusion of a real interaction with the victims that triggered a strong emotional reaction. Thanks to this effect, we have increased the awareness of dangerous relationships and the importance of safe separation. The impact The campaign was an outstanding success by every measure: it reached 10M views in only 3 days. It was aired on the national news and went into overdrive on social media. It was backed by almost 100 local municipal leaders around the country, presented in Knesset committees, covered by the international press as BBC and Reuters, and featured at the UN and NATO. We have also won international advertising awards, such as three Golden Drum awards. The campaign's engagement rate was 5 times higher than the average, with men being almost half of the audience. I see it as a great achievement because to create a change, we needed to engage with all genders. Our campaign has already saved lives. While the campaign was promoted, the clicks on the helpline numbers and the risk assessment questionnaire reached 1,000. We also received real-time emergency inqu...

O excesso e a escassez trazem danos. This episode features an interview with Tomer Shiran, Founder and Chief Product Officer at Dremio. Dremio is a high-performance SQL lakehouse platform that helps companies get more from their data in the fastest way possible. Prior to Dremio, Tomer served as VP of Product at MapR and also held product management and engineering roles at Microsoft and IBM Research. He also has a master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University as well as a bachelor's from Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. In this episode, Tomer and Sam dive into the economics of storing data, how to build an open architecture, and what exactly a data lakehouse is.-------------------“I think in the world of data lakes and lakehouses, the model has shifted upside down. Now, instead of bringing the data into the engines, you're actually bringing the engines to the data. So you have this open data tier built on open source technology. The data is represented in open source formats and stored in the company's S3 account or Azure storage account. And then you can use a variety of engines. We at Dremio, we take pride in building the best SQL engine to use on the data. There are different streaming engines, like Spark and Flink. There are different batch processing and machine learning engines. Spark is an example of that as well that companies can use on that same data. And I think that's one of the really important things from a cost standpoint, too, is that this really lowers your overall costs, both today and also in the future as you scale.” – Tomer Shiran-------------------Episode Timestamps:(02:04): What open source data means to Tomer(03:14): Tomer's motivation behind Apache Arrow(06:42): How Tomer solved data accessibility (08:43): The unit economics of storing data(14:31): Tomer's motivations for Iceberg and how it relates to Project Nessie(17:06): What is a data lakehouse?(18:31): What gives Dremio its magic?(23:39): What cloud data architecture will look like in 5 years(27:19): Advice for building an open data architecture-------------------Links:LinkedIn - Connect with TomerLinkedIn - Connect with DremioTwitter - Follow TomerTwitter - Follow DremioVisit DremioGet started with Dremio

PAFOW Podcast Shiran Yarolavsky Of Cassiopeia by Al Adamsen
Shiran Avraham is an Israeli singer-songwriter with Yemeni roots. Avraham talks about her grandmother's journey from Yemen to Israel and how the stories her family told her about Yemen impacted her identity and her work. Although she found it difficult to connect with Arabic music while her peers were listening to the modern pop music of the 90s, she fell in love with it once she connected with her grandmother and learned about her roots. This added another rich layer to the already diverse influences that make Shiran one of the most remarkable artists to appear from the Middle East in years. Translating and singing some of her original songs into Yemeni Arabic has allowed her work to cross even more religious, cultural, and musical divides. @shiranmusic @batovrecords @YnewsAW Alex@Yemennews.org COVID 19 Update: 216 Cases 40 Deaths and 8 Recovered
A remote workforce has proven to be challenging to a lot of companies who have traditionally run operations from a centralized location. Aside from the technical issues (ie:security and connectivity) productivity, engagement and mental health become more difficult to manage. Today we take a dive into how we can utilize policies, tools and data to create a more engaged remote workforce. Our guest today: Shiran Yaroslavsky, Co-Founder & CEO of Cassiopeia Tech A startup that empowers managers that lead fully or partially remote teams to maximize workplace experience. Our solution delivers actionable insights to boost team collaboration, belonging, and mental health by analyzing communications patterns (not content) within and among teams. Shiran is an expert in all things related to data driven products and people analytics and was featured in 2019 Forbes 30 Under30 list. In this episode we cover The problems of managing a remote workforce Providing direction on how to fix it What are the remote work challenges are companies facing today? 77% Managers feel it is harder for them to manage their team remotely Don't have visibility, water cooler talk Creating a sense of belonging becomes more difficult (more than third were affected) Needs not being met. Need more empathy (fear, uncertainty) (36% of employees would like their managers to be more empathetic to their challenges at home to improve their work experience.). Lead with an open approach Be more sensitive to employees’ needs and how we interact. Why is this important? Managers need to constantly asses the team pulse Remote teams are the future (GitLab report. 86% of respondents believe remote is the future) New skills and tools that help to adapt to the new environment Challenge with surveys People are fearing for their job Rick’s Input Leaders must adapt, or parish Changes operational efficiency and the need for more hands on management Cuts the need for layers of management What needs to happen for a company to be successful in managing a remote workforce? There are 3 main domains companies should adjust in order to be successful in managing remote teams: Establish Remote Work policies & culture that are suitable for remote work. There are 3 things we need to pay attention to. Rules - We need to establish new rules for gaining clarity Will we pay people for overtime if they work off-hours? How do we manage security and passwords? Norms - When do we email, text, or message people? Are cameras always on for online meetings? How do we run and manage meetings? Design our broader company DNA - How do we communicate when we aren’t satisfied with something? How can we stay connected while working remotely?Establishing the right culture will help us to foster trust Training for managers My interview with Amy Cappellanti-Wolf. Today the new leader is more about empathy. It’s still about driving for results but in a more collaborative way. Much more listening and a lot more guiding rather than directing. The new leader also needs to be more flexible and innovative to adapt to the new challenges as the world is changing very fast. Training can help to gain these new skills. Tools needed Working remotely is not just working from the office only with Zoom. Working remotely creates new challenges for leaders. According to our data - 77% of managers indicate it’s harder for them to manage their team remotely. There is a workplace experience gap that technology can help in closing. Team Insights tools. It is more challenging to use Surveys for feedback tools (employees are busy and insecure while as a manager you need fast real-time insights to act on). Communication shifted to online - people analytics can empower remote managers. Examples from Cassiopeia - We analyze communication patterns to provide actionable insights to improve collaboration, belonging and mental health. For example - create a healthy workday balance. Experience of new employees Communication platforms (zoom, Slack etc) Collaboration tools - to share documents, thoughts, goals. Rick’s Nuggets Your policies need to start with your interview process and carry through to onboarding and tenure. Not just when the person is already working for you Implement the same management tools in the hiring process. It provides a real life picture of how you work. Key Takeaways: Be Aware of the workplace experience gap created by the shift to remote work Design the right policies and company culture to allow your company to prosper while working remotely. Use the right tools to boost your teams’ collaboration, communication, and employee experience.

When your data lives in multiple locations, belonging to at least as many applications, it is exceedingly difficult to ask complex questions of it. The default way to manage this situation is by crafting pipelines that will extract the data from source systems and load it into a data lake or data warehouse. In order to make this situation more manageable and allow everyone in the business to gain value from the data the folks at Dremio built a self service data platform. In this episode Tomer Shiran, CEO and co-founder of Dremio, explains how it fits into the modern data landscape, how it works under the hood, and how you can start using it today to make your life easier.
