As we work our way through the alphabet from A to Z in my drug pronunciation series, we're on the letter “L.” Disclaimer: we don't cover pharmacology in this series. Just drug names.   In this episode, I'll divide liraglutide, Victoza, and Saxenda into syllables, tell you which syllables to emphasize, and share my sources. Written pronunciations are helpful, so you'll find all three below and in the show notes for episode 324 on thepharmacistsvoice.com. Once you've listened to this episode, practice saying liraglutide, Victoza, and Saxenda. Repetition is the key to mastery.   Thank you for listening to episode 324 of The Pharmacist's Voice ® Podcast. The FULL show notes (including all links) are on https://www.thepharmacistsvoice.com/podcast.  Select episode 324.   Liraglutide = LIR a GLOO tide  LIR, like a Learjet Uh, which is a short “A” sound or a schwa “A” sound.  GLOO, like the sticky substance we use to stick two things together And tide, like the ocean tide Sources: Novo Nordisk Customer Service, MedlinePlus, and drugs.com    Victoza = VIC-tow-za  VIC, like Victor Tow, like a tow truck And za, like pizza Emphasize VIC Sources: Novo Nordisk Customer Service, drugs.com, and the FDA's website    Saxenda = sax en duh Sax, like a saxophone En, like the letter “N” in the alphabet Duh, which is an interjection we use in the US to mean, “Isn't it obvious?!” For example, if someone told you, “Water is wet,” you might say, “Duh! Water IS wet.”

Robert Price is a voice teacher, director, and level five advanced clinical massage therapist specialising in the voice and jaw. He trained in voice studies at the Central School of Speech and Drama before teaching and directing in many drama schools and currently serves voice users at his Vocal Massage London and at the Voice Care Centre. Robert teaches vocal massage to other teachers, osteopaths, physiotherapists, and SLTs, and he's here to help us understand how we can perform massage on ourselves and guide our clients in self-massage in the studio. KEY TAKEAWAYS Robert finds massage beneficial for stress and anxiety. He discusses how vocal massage helps shift from a sympathetic to a parasympathetic state, calming the nervous system and fostering connection. Individuals should listen to their bodies and engage in self-massage with care, avoiding extremes and focusing on gentle, thoughtful touch. Robert also recommends seeking professional training for those interested in pursuing vocal massage as a practice. Robert's vocal massage techniques for stress management include gently mobilising the larynx, performing anterior neck stretches, massaging the submental region, encouraging thoughtful self-touch, using a holistic approach with whole-body techniques like Qigong, and ensuring consent-based touch. These methods promote relaxation, improve mobility, and reduce tension in the vocal area. Example Daily Routine. Morning: Start your day with a few minutes of gentle neck stretches and submental massages. Afternoon Break: Take a short break to practise deep breathing and light self-massage on your neck and shoulders. Evening: End your day with a more extended self-massage session, focusing on the entire neck and throat area, and incorporating whole-body stretches. BEST MOMENTS  "The fundamental value of massage is to move people from a sympathetic state to a parasympathetic state." "The benefits of vocal massage are subjective. It usually helps people, but quite what's happening within that is about the person." "Consent and safety are at the heart of manual therapy. The person should have agency over the touch and feel comfortable throughout the session." Raising Magical Children in a Modern World In this episode of 'Practically Magick', hosted by Courtney Pearl, a pagan witch and spiritual guide, the focus is on raising magical children. Courtney begins by sharing her personal spiritual journey and her method of incorporating magick into her parenting, emphasizing empowerment and teaching children to believe in the magick of life. She discusses using oracle cards in events and with her own children to engage them in magick and introduces the concept through a card reading featuring an owl, symbolizing wisdom and magick. Courtney also shares a story from Irish mythology about the Children of Lir to illustrate the power of stories in teaching children important life lessons and morals. The episode further explores how to create a spiritually enriching environment for children outside of traditional religious structures, offering practical advice for parents seeking to include magick and spirituality in their parenting. Courtney's approach blends various spiritual teachings, art, storytelling, and personal empowerment, aiming to foster a sense of magick and creativity in children from a young age. 00:00 Welcome to Practically Magick: A Journey with Courtney Pearl 00:37 Introducing Magickal Oracle Cards for Kids 01:26 The Owl Card: A Symbol of Magick and Wisdom 02:59 Raising Magickal Children: Embracing Spirituality and Creativity 04:20 Storytime: The Legend of the Children of Lir 12:11 Exploring Personal Spirituality and Teaching Kids Magick 15:21 Crafting a New Spiritual Path: From Mormonism to Magick 21:20 Creating Magickal Moments: Storytelling and Activities for Kids 27:20 Exploring Parental Guidance and Storytelling 28:46 The Challenge of Modern Distractions and Screen Time 29:08 Collecting and Sharing Diverse Stories with Children 30:37 Incorporating Spiritual Themes into Parenting 34:20 Empowering Children Through Art and Self-Discovery 36:20 Magick, Self-Identity, and Repentance: A New Perspective 39:33 Engaging with Magick in Everyday Life 45:20 Closing Thoughts and Invitations 45:59 Upcoming Events and Workshops #PracticallyMagick #MagickalParenting #SpiritualLiving #PaganParenting #EnchantedLearning #FamilyMagick #MythicalTeaching #OracleForKids ----more---- # Raising Magical Children: A Journey into Enchantment and Empowerment In today's fast-paced world, where technology and modernity seem to overshadow the mystical and the ancient, there's a growing movement among parents and educators to reconnect children with the enchanting aspects of life. As a guide and voice in this movement, Courtney Pearl from the beloved podcast, Practically Magick, takes listeners on a profound journey, sharing insights and wisdom on how to nurture magical children in a modern era. ## Discovering the True and Real Magick in the World Courtney, a pagan witch, card reader, healer, spiritualist, and more, opens the discourse by emphasizing the inherent magick in the world and the importance of recognizing and fostering it within our children. She draws upon her rich experience as an artist, teacher, and mystic seeker to illuminate the path for parents and educators alike. ### The First Steps The journey begins with the use of tangible tools like oracle cards designed for children, which serve not only as a medium for fun and engagement but also as a gateway to intuition and the magical world. Courtney's personal approach to introducing magick to children through such tools illustrates the power of simplicity and joy in the magical education of the young. ### Stories and Mythologies A significant portion of the podcast dives deep into the art of storytelling as a medium for imparting spiritual wisdom and moral values. Courtney narrates the compelling Irish legend of the Children of Lir, using it as a vessel to transport wisdom about life, transformation, and the power of stories themselves in shaping beliefs and moral frameworks. This segment highlights the crucial role of myths and stories in the spiritual and moral development of children, presenting them as foundational elements in building a magical upbringing. ### Practical Magick in Daily Life Courtney doesn't stop at stories and myths; she further extends the concept of magick into the realms of art and everyday life. By reflecting on her personal journey and practices, she provides listeners with practical advice on incorporating magick into the daily routine, from art lessons filled with intention and creativity to special story times that blend the ancestral wisdom with the whimsy of the modern imagination. ### Challenges and Opportunities Despite the beauty and appeal of raising magical children, Courtney also touches upon the challenges parents might face, from resistance to engagement in magickal activities to balancing traditional spiritual upbringing with modern values. She advocates for patience, persistence, and the understanding that the path of magick is unique for each child and family. ## A Call to Magickal Parenting The blog post inspired by Courtney Pearl's podcast, Practically Magick, beckons parents, educators, and anyone involved in the lives of children, to embrace the enchanting, the mystical, and the magickal in the upbringing of the next generation. Courtney's insights and personal anecdotes serve as both a guide and an inspiration for those looking to navigate the journey of raising magical children – an endeavor that promises to enrich both the lives of the children and their guardians with wonder, empowerment, and a deep connection to the magick that permeates our world. Raising magical children in today's world is both a challenge and a profound opportunity to reconnect with the wonders that modern life often causes us to overlook. By infusing our children's lives with magick through stories, creative practices, and everyday acts of wonder, we not only enhance their lives but also revive the ancient wisdom that holds the key to a more connected, intuitive, and enchanting existence. Courtney Pearl invites us all to partake in this journey, reminding us that magick isn't just found in the pages of old tales or the rituals of the ancients; it's right here, in the art we create, the stories we share, and the lives we build with our children. Through her words and wisdom, we're reminded of the powerful role we play in shaping a world where magick is not only believed in but lived and breathed daily.

A handsome structure it will be, and after a long journey the project got the go-ahead just after we recorded this episode.Michael shares stories of why he hates sheep, his adventures delivering potatoes with his father around Northern Ireland, the business reasons for moving into whiskey, the challenges of launching a distillery, why he's committing to pot-still whiskey, and the benefits of the founders' cask trade. We wrap with a wee, warming, amber dram of Lir Green Crest. TRANSCRIPT OF AUDIO From the Cumberland Gap to the Atlantic Ocean, this is Virginia Water Radio for the weeks of October 30 and November 6, 2023, and particularly for Halloween. MUSIC – ~18 sec – Lyrics: “Summer's over, winter's coming; summer's over, winter's coming.” That's part of “Winter is Coming,” by The Steel Wheels.  It sets the stage for an episode on the origins of Halloween in the ancient festival of Samhain, first observed centuries ago by Celtic peoples.  Celtic lands include Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and areas of England and France.  Samhain marked the end of the Celtic year on October 31, when summer had faded, winter was approaching, and—in Celtic belief—the dividing line between earth and the spirit world was thin, allowing spirits of the dead to roam.  As described by Miranda Aldhouse-Green in her 2015 book The Celtic Myths, quote, “It was at the festival of Samhain, at the edge of winter, that the world of humans was most at risk from the inhabitants of the world beyond: the boundaries were suspended and the spirits could prowl among the living, to their good or detriment depending on the character of the individual phantom,” unquote. Along with Halloween's date, many of its traditions can be traced back to Samhain practices, such as donning costumes or disguises, believed by the Celts to help them avoid being recognized by wandering spirits. When they weren't wandering the earth at Samhain, Celtic spirits and Celtic gods were believed to reside in what was known as the Otherworld.  In Celtic beliefs, watery areas were considered access points to the Otherworld.  Celtic mythology also gave special significance to swans, whose beautiful appearance on the water might have suggested connections to Celtic gods.  Here's a short version of an Irish legend about Samhain and swans; the opening and closing sounds are Tundra Swans, a North American species whose Berwick's Swan subspecies is found in Ireland and Wales. SOUNDS  - 4 sec – Tundra Swans. Oenghus was the Celtic god of love.  In the myth called “The Dream of Oenghus,” the god dreamed he saw a woman named Caer, the Celtic goddess of sleep and dreams, and he became smitten with her.  He searched far and wide for her, eventually finding her among a group of other women at a lake, and learning that every other year at Samhain the women turned into swans.  At the next Samhain, Oenghus returned to the lake and, by turning himself into a swan, was able to win Caer's heart.  The story ends with the pair of swans circling the lake three times, casting a sleep enchantment on everyone below, and flying off together.       SOUNDS  - 4 sec – Tundra Swans. I hope your Halloween has rich traditions and a bit of mystery, perhaps about waters or water creatures from worlds unknown. Thanks to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the swan sounds.  Thanks also to The Steel Wheels for permission to use part of “Winter is Coming.”  We close with another musical selection, which has become a Halloween-episode tradition on this show.  Here, for about 50 seconds, is “A Little Fright Music,” composed and recorded or Virginia Water Radio by Torrin Hallett. MUSIC – ~50 sec – Instrumental. Welcome back to episode 22 of the BookTok Book Club Podcast. Today we are talking about Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier with Serene Heiner @magicalbooknook We loved getting to know Serene and learning a little bit more about how she fell in love with books. Serene's parents are big bookworms, so it's no surprise that she has been reading for as long as she can remember.   And of course, we always get excited about new books. Join us today as we discuss Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. Daughter of the Forest is a historical fantasy novel by Juliet Marillier first published in 1999. It is loosely based on the legend of the Children of Lir and "The Six Swans" (a story that has many versions, including one by the Brothers Grimm). A girl (Sorcha) must sew six shirts from a painful nettle plant in order to save her brothers from a witch's enchantment, remaining completely mute until the task is finished. Falling in love complicates her mission. Join us again next week and be sure to check out our previous episodes. Connect with us on Tiktok @cindygwrites, @cynthiagwrites and @aekingauthor

Tom Morley emailed around St Patrick's Day: "Marc, Our Chattanooga - based band Stringer's Ridge played a concert on St. Patrick's Day at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. (I am there on the faculty at the famous folk arts school usually once a year teaching beginning or intermediate Irish Fiddle.) We had a wonderful crowd and it was a great way to spend the best Irish day of the year! I am enclosing several photos of us at the historic Keith House where we put on the concert. (Tom Morley - fiddle, Fran Morley - bodhran, Bryant Haynes - guitar) Thanks for all you do to promote Irish trad music!" STRINGER'S RIDGE Marilyn S. Hansen sent a photo about Easter Rising Band: "14 seminarians got together years ago in St. Louis and developed an Irish band. Most of them are married now. They play at each other's weddings, but they also have regular gigs. The interesting part is how their kids take part… This is last year‘s celebration. I was out of town this year celebrating my sister's birthday the day before St. Patrick's Day. Thought I'd send you last year's photo. I'll send you a few that they've sent to me for this year. EASTER RISING BAND Pete Watson emailed St Pat's photos: "Hi Marc, The Bookends had a fabulous time playing a number of shows throughout Ontario around St. Patrick's Day.Attached is a photo of Miriam (left) and Cait (right) on St. Paddy's Day for our gig at The Rec Room, Toronto, with our regular special guest bodhrán player extraordinaire, Romano Di Nillo.Romano is just back from 4+ years with Come From Away on Broadway and we were so glad to have him with us for these shows. The venue was handing out some "paddywhackery" to attendees and these 3 couldn't resist putting some on!" THE BOOKENDS-PETE WATSON Bruce Cummings, a Piper emailed a photo: "Hey Marc!Just to say how much I enjoy listening to the Celtic music you provide. You asked for pictures from St. Patrick's Day 2023, so here's a couple. I am part of the Lane Fire Brigade Pipes and Drums in Eugene Ore. We had a great weekend piping in the area.Keep up the good work!" BRUCE CUMMINGS PIPER Jim O'Connor of Boston Blackthorne emailed a photo: "Hi Marc -hope you had a fabulous holiday! Boston Blackthorne played 3 nights in Western MA, centered around St Patrick's Day as well as the big parade (the nation's oldest) in Holyoke MA.We played to crowded enthusiastic fans in Northampton MA and Holyoke MA.But perhaps the best gig (and story) was the one that arose spontaneously back in the lobby of our hotel after our St Pat's evening show. The hotel lobby is most frequently empty but this night is was crowded with about 100 boisterous folks from Minnesota, visiting Massachusetts to support a Women's college Hockey team. We were approached by the unofficial spokesperson who pointed at our guitar and fiddle and asked, “Can you really play those?” I answered of course we can, and this is your lucky night! Not only has your party been invaded by musicians, we are an Irish band and this is St Patrick's Day! We proceeded to unpack our instruments and did a set of singalongs like Charlie on the MTA for the Boston connection.Halfway through the set our wives came into the lobby -my wife grumbled to Pete's wife, “This party is going to keep us up all night!”Pete's wife Maureen looked a little closer and exclaimed, “Hey that's Jim and Pete in the center of it all!”They joined the fray, we had the best gig of the year playing for this group of strangers from the Midwest, wonderful folks who doubtless went home with a great tale and the definition of the work “Craic!” JIM OCONNOR

Please be aware the stories, theories, re-enactments and language in this podcast are of an adult nature and can be considered disturbing, frightening and in some cases even offensive.  Listener Discretion is therefore advised.  Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained.  I'm your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the things that go bump in the night, frighteningly imagined creatures, supernatural beings and even some unsolved mysteries but I promise all sorts of weirdness.  So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma....  And on today's Dark enigma well, I got an interesting listener suggestion, complaint, meh suggestion – They wanted to know why I haven't done any Irish stories – well honestly, because I have yet to perfect an Irish Brogue that isn't truly embarrassing, so here you go!  So, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight.  The choice of libation, as always my darlings, is yours, so choose your poison accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say Lir that will be a single shot and every time I say children, that will be a double shot.  Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today's dark enigma… so don… your best Irish Kilt and a thick fisherman's sweater or Celtic tunic as we jump into today's offering of The Traditional Irish Legend The Fate Of The Children of Lir – oh and the Brogue still isn't worthy, so I won't be embarrassing myself by using it, sorry.  Now at the time when the Tuatha de Danaan chose a king for themselves after the battle of Tailltin, and Lir heard the kingship was given to Bodb Dearg, it did not please him, and he left the gathering without leave and with no word to any one; for he thought it was he himself had a right to be made king. But if he went away himself, Bodb was given the kingship none the less, for not one of the five begrudged it to him but only Lir. And it is what they determined, to follow after Lir, and to burn down his house, and to attack himself with spear and sword, on account of his not giving obedience to the king they had chosen. "We will not do that," said Bodb Dearg, "for that man would defend any place he is in; and besides that," he said, "I am none the less king over the Tuatha de Danaan, although he does not submit to me."

The Cru welcome writer J.W. Surface to the WriteLab Studios for this episode.  Stories feature a classic fantasy; a classic fairy tale; an imagined mythology; a true crime tale; and some limericks.  I guess it's a genre fiction evening?  Oh, and there are apples. So many apples. From The Standard Dictionary of Folklore, Mythology, and Legend, 1949 ed. Lir, King. The earliest known original of the king in Shakespeare's King LEAR (1605), an ocean-god of early Irish and British legend. He figures in the romance The Fate of the Children of Lir as the father of FIONNUALA. On the death of Fingula, the mother of his daughter, he married the wicked Aoife, who, through spite, transformed the children of Lir into swans. Lir appears in the MABINOGION as Llyr and in Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae (c.1136) as Leir, the supposed founder of Leicester, from which later source Shakespeare derived his plot. Stories begin around the 15:30 mark.Check out our website for a featured story from this week's episode, and be sure to follow us on Instagram (if that's your sort of thing). My name is Liza and I am from Russia (unfortunately), I have recently discovered your podcast and I would like to say thank you for what you are doing. I love Celtic music, songs and dances, also picked up some piano notes when visiting Scotland. Utterly magnificent sounds and composition. I enjoy listening to your podcast while I am walking through the woods near my country house or collect berries there. It helps me to escape from the harsh reality and just meditate in the great outdoors. I sent you some photos of our my favourite places" Thank you for emailing Liza. I appreciate you sharing those beautiful photos. And I hope you stay safe in this terrible period of history. Rex Edwards emailed: “Marc. Long time fan and podcast subscriber. You provide the modern and I'm a long time supporter of Alan OLeary and his trad podcast on liveIreland.com which I think has hit hard times.  He has great connections to the old timers.  Don't know if you've heard of him but any visibility you could give him would be great.  He's always asking to share with friends but that would require me making friends. Your show is a great delight and many thanks.  Rex” Find more about Copperplate.

Lost Celts        www.facebook.com/LostCelts BUY SELCOUTH BY MARC GUNN My latest CD features Sci F'Irish music. That means it is original songs fusing pop culture themes with Irish drinking songs. There are some traditional music on the album. But mostly, it features songwriting by Marc Gunn with guests including: Screeched Inn, The Muckers, Jamie Haeuser, Sam Gillogly, Nathan Deese, and Mikey Mason. Selcouth means, “when everything is strange and different, yet you find it marvelous anyway.” The album is not completely Celtic and it's not just science fiction and fantasy. It's a fusion of the two. It's heartfelt and a lot of fun. It's now on sale in my Bandcamp store. Check out Selcouth now. Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Donald Rice of Poitin Band sent a couple thank yous: "Marc, Thanks so much for including our reel set on the upcoming show. Boatsmen starts with me playing clawhammer style banjo which takes a while to learn. Anyway, we appreciate being included on your wonderful podcast.  I listened today from Sicily where my wife and I are visiting some friends and their lovely cat, Thai. Slain" He also wrote: "Marc, Thanks for including the photo of Poitin Band and our Irish polka set on the Courting Tales episode of the podcast. That picture was taken last year at the Old Crossing Treaty Park in northern Minnesota where we played at the Chautauqua and French - Canadian/Metis Festival. It's a great multi - cultural festival and we are booked again for this annual event in late August 2022. We are so proud to be part of your great podcast." Shel O'Toole emailed: "Hi Marc, I shared a link to your podcast page with the whole network of Irish muso's in the greater Ballarat region of Victoria,  Australia.  I'm not sure how many members there are but definitely more than a few.  Hopefully you'll be getting more input from Australia soon. I'm a bit jealous you are in Scotland.  One of my grandmothers hails from Ayr.  I hope to get there one day and explore that fine country.  Meanwhile I'm loving the music from both Scotland and Ireland." Woodland Folk emailed some flower and foot photos. You can see what I'm talking about when you visit the shownotes. I also posted a photo from a run that I took on my most recent Celtic Invasion of Scotland. We ran around the Estate we were staying in. They had cleared the trees up there. So this is not the most dramatic of pictures. But it was a fun run.
