Keith Jarrett var trött och flygeln inte så bra men där och då skapades världens mest sålda solo-piano-album. Berit Nygren tecknar Jarretts porträtt. Ett program från Jazzradion i P2. Lyssna på alla avsnitt i Sveriges Radios app. Keith Jarrett hade gett två mindre hyllade solo-piano-konserter i Lausanne, Schweiz och Bremen, Tyskland och när den då 29-årige Jarrett kom till Köln den 24 januari 1975 var samtliga 1400 platser i dess operahus utsålda. Det var bara det att scenarbetarna hade ställt dit en mindre och sämre flygel än den konsertflygel som var beställd. Själv var han trött efter en lång bilfärd och hade ont i ryggen men genomförde konserten ändå och gav ut den på skiva.Det blev hans och skivbolaget ECM:s internationella genombrott.Idag har skivan sålts i kanske fyra miljoner exemplar och anses vara världens mest sålda solo-piano-album, i alla fall på jazzområdet. I det här programmet får ni höra tänkbara orsaker till det liksom hur allt började i Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA, hur det fortsatte på 1960-talet med Charles Lloyds kvartett och med Miles Davis, hur Jarrett fick kontakt med Manfred Eicher och saxofonisten Jan Garbarek vilket i sin tur 1974 ledde till albumet ”Belonging” tillsammans med Palle Danielsson, kontrabas och Jon Christensen, trummor.Den idag 80-årige Keith Jarrett spelar inte längre på grund av två strokes men under sina aktiva år kunde han avbryta sina konserter och skälla ut publiken om någon hostade eller nös. Döm om min Berit Nygrens förvåning när jag hörde just sådant på albumet ”Radiance” som spelades in live i Japan och gavs ut år 2005. Det frågade jag honom om i en längre intervju samma år, då bara en bråkdel av intervjun fick rum i radio, men här får ni alltså höra betydligt mer ur den.
