You learn a lot about a tire when you push it to its edge — and even more when you're the one doing the pushing. That's exactly what Kumho Tire had in mind when they invited a group of dealers and journalists to Atlanta Motorsports Park to test the new Kumho Ecsta UHP tires.Kumho showcased three new products: the Ecsta Sport All-Season, Ecsta Sport, and Ecsta Sport S. But these weren't just lined up for a walkaround. We drove them in conditions designed to highlight their strengths and determine where each tire fits in the competitive UHP market. Wet skidpad sessions, an autocross circuit, and full-track lead-follow laps gave us a real-world feel for how each tire performs.Distinct Performance for Different DriversEach of the Kumho Ecsta UHP tires showcased performance sweet spots. The Ecsta Sport All-Season gripped confidently in wet conditions. Meanwhile, the Ecsta Sport delivered crisp, fast response in dry turns. The Sport S took high-speed corners with control and ease. Kumho didn't just check boxes — they dialed in each tire for a specific type of driver.Kumho Ecsta UHP Tires: Tech That Matches the DriveThe technology inside each tire is what drives each tire's distinct feel. Kumho equipped the Ecsta All-Season with a "High Grip" compound and interlocking sipes for year-round traction. The Ecsta Sport steps up with Kumho's "Innovative Compound Technology." That includes high-dispersible silica and performance resins for sharper cornering and braking. The Sport S, meanwhile, goes all-in on grip. Kumho gave it an aggressive tread pattern and advanced compound mix for control at track speeds.Advanced Testing and Development Methods for the Kumho Ecsta UHP TiresDuring the day-long event, we had the chance to chat with Andy Wallner, a tire development engineer at Kumho, who explained how the team used virtual modeling and AI tools to fine-tune each tire's compound and tread design. “Virtual modeling helps us improve our development cycles, so we're able to develop tires in a shorter time frame,” Wallner said. “[Kumho was] able to get to the target and improve the performance of these tires better than we would have without these methods. [Virtual modeling and AI-testing] doesn't fully replace traditional tire testing and development. However, doing that virtual work upfront helps Kumho design tires more efficiently.”Check out the video above to see how Tire Review Senior Editor Christian Hinton channels his inner video-game driver to test each tire's capability -- and have fun doing it.Looking for more What's Treading? How big is the knowledge gap between you and your customers when it comes to the difference between all-season and all-weather tires in your region? When you consider all the aspects surrounding the tire sale – from driver demands to technological differences to price to simple vocabulary befuddlement – it's easy to understand why your customers are confused.According to Chris Han, Senior Product and Channel Marketing Manager at Kumho Tire, one of the biggest points of confusion stems from the similarity in terminology, as many consumers assume "all-season" means the tire will perform in all weather conditions. "Many consumers think all-season actually means all-weather... but they're not necessarily meant for severe weather conditions," Han says.On this episode of What's Treading with Tire Review, Han emphasizes the evolving landscape of tire technology and consumer preferences, and introduces the Kumho Solus 4S HA32 tire, which was originally launched as an all-weather product but has since been repositioned as a next-generation all-season tire. Han also shares insights into the trade-offs tire manufacturers must consider when developing these products and practical maintenance tips for tire dealers and consumers alike. The EV tire sector is red-hot – and for good reason. Kelley Blue Book reported there were 1.2 million EVs added to the car parc in the U.S. in 2023, bringing the market share of these vehicles to 7.6%. S&P tells us that in the U.S., 2024 and 2025 will have over 130 new vehicle launches, with over half of them electrified. Tire manufacturers aren't taking their collective eyes off of this data, with some putting a lot of effort and R&D into finding ways to stay ahead of the market and hone in on the needs of EV customers.Sharing his thoughts on a recent episode of What's Treading, Shawn Denlein, president of sales and marketing at Kumho Tire USA, discussed the company's two latest EV-specific tire lines – the Majesty 9 Solus TA91 EV and Crugen HP71 EV – and how these lines fit into the EV tire marketplace."Our goal is not only to meet but exceed the expectations of EV drivers," Denlein says. "Kumho wants to be the new benchmark for performance efficiency and reliability in the EV market."On this episode of What's Treading with Tire Review, Denlein dives into Kumho Tire's strategy behind designing tire lines exclusive to EV drivers, how important the EV marketplace is to Kumho Tire, and some of the standout technology found in the company's latest EV tire lines.Tire Review: www.tirereview.comAAPEX: www.aapexshow.com

Leslie is joined by Maria Somma, Organizing Director for the United Steelworkers (USW). The two discuss how workers across the economy – from automakers to health care workers – are using their collective power to ensure they have fair contracts and safe working conditions. The first step in this process is organizing, and as workers seek greater protections on the job, they're capitalizing on this unique moment. It's not just the hot labor market, though the recent low unemployment has certainly helped. The pandemic helped workers in a number of industries understand that they're essential. It has also highlighted what they needed from their employers – in terms of job security, living wages, and more – as well as the power of working together to achieve these goals. Also, Joe Biden, the most pro-labor president in recent memory, has tasked his administration with helping workers to exercise their right to form unions. This unprecedented support, and whole of government approach, has helped tip the balance back toward workers, and away from greedy corporations. Workers are also experiencing a time of great potential as we look to the clean energy transition. Clean technology – like electric vehicles – require a wide variety of raw materials and other components. It's essential that jobs from mining to manufacturing are good, community supporting jobs. That means ensuring workers can exercise their right to organize. The final step in organizing is not, as some might think, a successful vote, but a first contract. This is where corporations like Starbucks double down on their efforts to break workers' collective will. We've seen this protracted bargaining at places like Kumho and OHL/Geodis, though the USW was ultimately successful in both cases. What workers need to help them successfully weather the immense challenges they face, including getting this vital first contract, is the PRO Act. Kumho Tire recently launched the Solus TA51a tire, a grand touring all-season tire that consolidates two products into one. Kumho has also been simplifying other product lines as well; According to Shawn Denlein, president of sales and marketing at Kumho Tire USA, it's a strategy that will become a huge boon to tire dealers.“In 2018 we started this strategy of trying to consolidate all the lines, and there's a lot of benefits to this,” Denlein says. “One, you have an extreme benefit from the manufacturing side, because you're able to concentrate obviously just on one tread. From a developmental side, it's also important because it allows the engineers just to focus on one tread. From the dealer side, you're carrying less inventory and it's not as complicated. Back in 2018 we had 13 treads and now we have nine."On this episode of What's Treading with Tire Review, we grill Denlein on details about Kumho's new TA51a grand touring all-season tire, tire segments the company has its eye on, and how expanded warehousing is expected to help tire dealers in North America.Tire Review: www.tirereview.comAAPEX: https://www.aapexshow.com/

Show #1420 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Wednesday 30th March, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. LOTUS ELETRE OPENS A NEW FRONT IN ELECTRIC SUVS - the new era of Lotus as an EV maker begins with this, the Eletre. It takes elements we've seen on the Evija battery-electric hypercar and Emira ICE sports car, wraps them in a larger package, jacks them up, and throws in a lot of new tech for the brand and the market. - The Eletre is 201 inches long on a 118.9-inch wheelbase, about 79 inches wide, and 64 inches high. Every one of those dimensions puts the Lotus within a couple of inches of the Aston Martin DBX - All we're told is the pack is more than 100 kWh and output starts at 600 horsepower. Every Eletre is all-wheel-drive, with a motor on each axle. - The 800-volt electrical architecture can handle up to 350-kW fast-charging, 20 minutes at a station at that charge rate restoring 248 WLTP miles of the Eletre's estimated 373-mile range in WLTP testing. 62 miles per hour in under 3 seconds and hit a top speed of 161 mph. - The electronic side mirror housings each contain three cameras, one camera for the rear views, one to help stitch a 360-degree overhead view, and one to help enable self-driving. - A slim gauge cluster and a head-up display provides the driver with relevant info, front passengers get a similar slim display that can display infotainment options. Between them, a 15.1-inch infotainment touchscreen that lays flat when not in use. Original Source : https://www.autoblog.com/2022/03/29/lotus-eletre-electric-suv-revealed/#slide-2390677 2025 LOTUS ELETRE FIRST LOOK: SIMPLIFY, THEN ADD AN ELECTRIC LUXURY SUV - multi-link air suspension and continuously variable damping all round. Active ride height and active anti-roll bars, along with rear-wheel steering and torque vectoring will be available as options on the Eletre, along with 23-inch alloy wheels - Four different drive modes—Range, Tour, Sport and Off-Road—adjust steering and accelerator pedal response, along with damping rates and powertrain output. And Individual mode will allow drivers to mix and match some settings to suit their personal driving styles. - The four LIDAR units, one at the top of the windshield, one at the top of the backlight, and one on each front fender, are hidden when not in use, thus preserving the Eletre's svelte appearance. - For context, the Eletre has 2.1 inches more space between the axles than a Tesla Model X and is 2.6 inches longer overall and 0.8 inches lower. This is not a small Lotus. - The rear is dominated two large vents that are bridged by a thin light bar, and a roof spoiler system that comprises two carbon fibre winglets cantilevered from the roof cant rails. The winglets function just like a conventional, full-width roof spoiler, guiding airflow down the backlight and on to a spoiler that deploys out of the tailgate at speed. Original Source : https://www.motortrend.com/news/2025-lotus-eletre-first-look-review/ LOTUS' ALL-ELECTRIC ELETRE SUV HAS A GRILL THAT 'BREATHES' - SUVs are entirely new to Lotus. Even long after Bentley and Porsche brushed aside tradition and released their own first SUVs, Lotus remained a sports-car-only company. With SUVs becoming the dominant passenger vehicle type, it may have been inevitable that Lotus would eventually throw its hat into the ring. As might be expected, Lotus brought a lot of its old sports car tricks into the design and manufacturing of the Eletre. - Lotus says the Eletre features “extensive” use of carbon fiber and aluminum to keep the (still undisclosed) weight down. The exterior body panels are aluminum, and all the black exterior trim pieces, such as the wheel arches, rear spoiler, and side-view mirrors, are carbon fiber. Hard interior trim pieces are also carbon fiber, and the seats are wrapped in a wool-blend fabric that, according to Lotus, is 50 percent lighter than typical leather seating. - An active front grill comprises interconnected triangular panels which stay closed when the Eletre is stopped or when it needs to reduce aerodynamic drag and automatically open to scoop air to the radiator to cool the electric motors, battery pack, or front brakes when needed. During this locking and unlocking sequence, the active grill “breathes” as the illuminated flush-fitting door handles deploy, opening and closing the vented panels. According to Kyle Conner, the weather was perfect, maybe beside from some wind during part of the test. The result is a pretty solid 254 miles (409 km), including the few last miles covered around the fast charging station at lower speeds. - For reference, the EPA Combined range is 274 miles (441 km), Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/576754/kia-ev6-awd-70mph-range/ TESLA GIGA BERLIN-MADE MODEL YS ARE DELIVERED TO MANNHEIM, GERMANY - Giga Berlin-made Model Ys have been delivered to Mannheim, Germany. Five Model Y Performances are reported to have been delivered. - However, it turns out that before that, Tesla had already delivered Giga Berlin-made Model Ys domestically. @samuel_glb/Twitter tweeted that the German-made cars were delivered to the Mannheim delivery center to be handed over to the owners on March 29. Electric vehicle owner Max Wilkinson - who is also a Cheltenham Councillor - recently bought a four-year-old hybrid Mini Countryman. He went home - but returned two hours later by which time the hybrid Mini was about half-charged. A week later Max received a penalty notice saying he'd been fined £90. Mr Wilkinson has paid the fine and doesn't dispute it. But he does think it doesn't quite make sense to restrict car charging to 90 minutes as well. - He said: “It seems illogical that quite a lot of EV and hybrid owners won't be allowed to spend enough time in the car park to get a full charge.” Email me any feedback to: hello@evnewsdaily.com It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast. Leslie is joined by Tom Conway, President of the United Steelworkers (USW). They discuss how the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the federal agency responsible for protecting workers’ rights, has done the opposite under President Trump by becoming an avenue for silencing workers’ voices and defending corporations. Leslie and Tom detail the union-busting tactics of President Trump's NLRB, which have chipped away at long-established rights and practices that allow workers to organize for better lives. (related blog here by USW President Tom Conway: https://www.usw.org/blog/2020/a-thousand-cuts) For example: · The NLRB imposed additional required steps to the union election procedure solely to stall the process and give employers more time to squash organizing efforts. · The NLRB also made it possible for employers to withhold contact information like email addresses of employees, making union communication more difficult. · Employers can now legally discipline workers just for mentioning a union drive to a co-worker while at work. · The NLRB sought to overturn an Oregon ruling that employers could not force employees to attend anti-union meetings. If that gets overturned, workers will get hit even harder with corporate coercion and fear-mongering, weakening the potential for successful union organizing drives If the NLRB overturns Oregon’s law, employers will ramp up the coercion and launch anti-union campaigns every bit as brutal as the one Kumho Tire waged against workers in Macon, Ga., three years ago. After workers began an organizing drive with the United Steelworkers (USW), Kumho forced them into daily anti-union meetings—each lasting up to 90 minutes—in which the company repeatedly threatened to close the plant, haul away the equipment and eliminate their jobs. Kumho augmented that torture with shop-floor conversations in which supervisors continually bullied workers and demanded to know how they planned to vote. The pressure tactics began the moment workers began their shifts each day, creating an atmosphere of pure hell inside the plant. These and other unfair rules allow employers to viciously bully workers with anti-union tactics while forcing employees to stay silent or else risk losing their jobs. But the pandemic has also fueled the momentum for unions among many in frontline and essential jobs · From Whole Foods to Fed Ex and Trader Joe’s, workers have mobilized to gain union protection in the midst of the pandemic · The pandemic further widened America’s rampant income inequality and underscored corporations’ indifference to workplace safety, as workers at Cort Furniture and Orlando International Airport discovered when their bosses herded them into anti-union meetings despite the need for social distancing(!) These and other exploited workers realize that only by organizing can they win family-sustaining wages, decent benefits and safe working conditions. An NLRB that enforces labor rights is necessary for building better lives for millions of Americans. · The president nominates NLRB members and the NLRB general counsel, and the Senate confirms those nominations. · The current NLRB leans heavily anti-worker. The five-person board includes the corporate lawyers John Ring and William Emanuel, and GOP congressional staffer Marvin Kaplan. · The board’s general counsel, Peter Robb, is a longtime anti-union, management-side attorney, who has set in motion many of the anti-worker stances the current NLRB has taken. · To truly fulfill the mission of the NLRB and protect workers, America must have federal officials in charge who truly care about labor rights.
