While New York State implemented mental health, drug, and opioid courts to handle modern crises, the implementation of these options has remained patchy and ineffective. Members of the Treatment Not Jail (TNJ) Coalition detail the real experience of people suffering from addiction in our legal system. The system as is does not address the root causes of addiction nor consider the best approaches for rehabilitation from substance abuse. This results in years spent toiling through a system with pending charges and little hope. This week on The Public Good, Tom Culkin and Laura Robinson of the TNJ Coalition join us to provide updates and insight on the Treatment Court Expansion Act for New York State. Tune in to learn about the statewide advocacy to ensure humane, safe, and fair legal processes for people in New York. To learn more about our work, visit our website at ppgbuffalo.org. On today's episode of the English Wine Diaries is Laura Robinson and Mathew Abbey from Burn Valley Vineyard in Norfolk. Laura's family moved to Crossways Farm in North Creake in October 1989, but it wasn't until 2016 that they decided to plant vines on their land, harvesting their first crop after the hot summer of 2018. Since then, they have built and expanded a winery and developed a portfolio of still, sparkling and sweet wines and vermouths. Laura, who has a background in forensic science, works with her sister, Sam, to run the vineyard while her brother, Jack, farms the surrounding land. Mathew, who has been working in the wine industry for over 17 years including a decade in New Zealand's top wine regions, joined the team in 2019. This year they won the Independent English Wine Award trophy for their 2022 Chardonnay, shining a spotlight on Burn Valley and the wider region of Norfolk as a future hot spot for the grape and still winemaking in the UK. We talk about their growing, diverse portfolio of wines, how they feel Norfolk has grown as a wine region over the last few years and the wines they would like to make in the future. BUFFALO, NY- April 3, 2024 – A new #research paper was #published in Aging (listed by MEDLINE/PubMed as "Aging (Albany NY)" and "Aging-US" by Web of Science) Volume 16, Issue 6, entitled, “Targeting mitochondrial dysfunction using methylene blue or mitoquinone to improve skeletal aging.” Methylene blue (MB) is a well-established antioxidant that has been shown to improve mitochondrial function in both in vitro and in vivo settings. Mitoquinone (MitoQ) is a selective antioxidant that specifically targets mitochondria and effectively reduces the accumulation of reactive oxygen species. In this new study, researchers Sher Bahadur Poudel, Dorra Frikha-Benayed, Ryan R. Ruff, Gozde Yildirim, Manisha Dixit, Ron Korstanje, Laura Robinson, Richard A. Miller, David E. Harrison, John R. Strong, Mitchell B. Schaffler, and Shoshana Yakar from New York University College of Dentistry, City College of New York, The Jackson Laboratory, University of Michigan, South Texas Veterans Health Care System, and The University of Texas Health Science Center investigated the effect of long-term administration of MB or MitoQ on skeletal morphology during the aging process. “[...] we administered MB to aged (18 months old) female C57BL/J6 mice, as well as to adult male and female mice with a genetically diverse background (UM-HET3). Additionally, we used MitoQ as an alternative approach to target mitochondrial oxidative stress during aging in adult female and male UM-HET3 mice.” Although the researchers observed some beneficial effects of MB and MitoQ in vitro, the administration of these compounds in vivo did not alter the progression of age-induced bone loss. Specifically, treating 18-month-old female mice with MB for 6 or 12 months did not have an effect on age-related bone loss. Similarly, long-term treatment with MB from 7 to 22 months or with MitoQ from 4 to 22 months of age did not affect the morphology of cortical bone at the mid-diaphysis of the femur, trabecular bone at the distal-metaphysis of the femur, or trabecular bone at the lumbar vertebra-5 in UM-HET3 mice. “Based on our findings, it appears that long-term treatment with MB or MitoQ alone, as a means to reduce skeletal oxidative stress, is insufficient to inhibit age-associated bone loss. This supports the notion that interventions solely with antioxidants may not provide adequate protection against skeletal aging.” DOI - https://doi.org/10.18632/aging.205147 Corresponding author - Shoshana Yakar - sy1007@nyu.edu Sign up for free Altmetric alerts about this article - https://aging.altmetric.com/details/email_updates?id=10.18632%2Faging.205147 Subscribe for free publication alerts from Aging - https://www.aging-us.com/subscribe-to-toc-alerts About Aging-US Aging publishes research papers in all fields of aging research including but not limited, aging from yeast to mammals, cellular senescence, age-related diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's diseases and their prevention and treatment, anti-aging strategies and drug development and especially the role of signal transduction pathways such as mTOR in aging and potential approaches to modulate these signaling pathways to extend lifespan. In honor of this spooky season, Dr. Laura Robinson and I sit down and unpack what is often considered the scariest movie of all time... THE EXORCIST. It is Dr. Robinson's favorite scary movie, and you can tell immediately because her passion for it shows in this episode. The Exorcist is definitely one of my Horror Mount Rushmore picks and what I believe to be THE BEST CHRISTIAN MOVIE OF ALL TIME! (hot take alert) This movie didn't just change horror movies, it changed movies and had a profound impact on society at large. We talk about key themes, great scenes, Priests as heroes, how gross and disgusting the special FX are, the novel, William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist: Believer, and how it even influenced the Satanic Panic of the 80's. While the goal may have been to scare the hell out of people, Blatty & Director William Friedkin may just have scared the hell into us. On this episode of Mormonish Podcast we bring you Part 2 with Laura Robinson, PhD, the author of several excellent articles on Operation Underground Railroad and Tim Ballard. Laura received her doctorate degree from Duke University and works in the public sector in Indiana, and is an affiliate researcher at Virginia Tech. Laura began looking into OUR because of the strong evangelical support for the organization, eventually researching and writing a series of very thought provoking articles. She eventually struck an unlikely friendship with Lynn Packer, who has been studying and reporting on OUR for years, and was able to share information back and forth with him in this interesting and productive collaboration. Speaking with Mormonish, Laura shares her unique perspective on recent events involving OUR and Tim Ballard from a point of view most of us haven't heard before. She also brings several important issues to light regarding international rescue operations that need to considered more fully. The big picture of OUR's international recue missions is something very complex. We learned quite a lot in our conversation with Laura and we're really excited to share this important episode with our Mormonish viewers and listeners. This will be part one of two. Dr. Laura Robinson is an absolute pop culture and theological genius. I've been trying to get her on the podcast for a LONG TIME and we finally made it happen. (We recorded this episode in April, so things have changed since then.) Hopefully we'll get a chance to deep dive a movie soon. In this episode, we journey through a number of movies, books and TV shows (House of the Dragon, Redeeming Love, Black Snake Moan and more) and how these stories tell us about God and ourselves. Laura's brain moves a million miles an hour and we both get super excited, so we move quickly through a number of subjects with tons of references and analogies. Buckle up! There are so many messages out there about pushing through your comfort zone you can end up thinking if it doesn't hurt I must be doing it wrong. But what if you need your business to be comfortable and safe because you're already dealing with life stuff? For example looking after elderly parents, being a career, or dealing with a chronic illness? In this interview, Laura shares how she's adapted her own business to suit her, her goals, and her family. And how she's expanding her comfort zone rather than pushing through it. Laura shares valuable lessons she learned that changed and simplified the way she runs her business. Key takeaways from this episode Voxer works like leaving a voicemail message on Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger, but there isn't a time limit to how long the message can be. The person can listen in real-time while you're leaving a message in Voxer. We need someone accountable to keep our work on track and motivated. We can learn how to have a successful business without burning ourselves out. Working on something without burning out is a choice you have to own. Choosing not to burn yourself out gives you space to be more creative and earn more. It's better to expand your comfort zone than go out of it. Your business will have its hard parts, but you don't have to make it harder for yourself. Always ask yourself how you can make things easier and simpler. Dig deep and figure out what is making things hard to be able to work on it more effectively. There are many ways to do things; You can always pick the strategy that will work for you. In the fast-paced world of marketing, finding a balance between a thriving career and personal life can be a daunting task. In the latest episode of Marketing Like a Mother, Michelle talks with inspiring copywriter and market mentor, Laura Robinson. Laura's journey is a testament to the power of resilience, adaptability, and the pursuit of a business that harmonizes with life's complexities. Laura is a marketing mentor for people who sell their expertise online as services, courses, programs, memberships, and more. She often works with people who need to shape their business around Life Stuff (and as a neuro-ambiguous, spoonie, mum to two boys that were home-educated, she has plenty of experience doing that for herself!) In this episode, Michelle and Laura discuss: How Laura started her business when life got nuts and nothing else would work Creating a business that feels comfortable and not striving for more Laura's experiments with urgency and pricing Shaping your business with intentional experimenting Figuring out what works for you and respecting your own boundaries Timestamps 00:02 Marketing Strategies for a Family-Friendly Business 02:16 Reflection on Corporate Career and Family Life Challenges 03:40 The Journey to Becoming a Successful Entrepreneur 05:01 Navigating a Decade of Business Adaptations: From Blogging to Mentorship 07:18 Exploring Adaptability and Self-Awareness in Business
Welcome to another episode of Brand it! — where today I am joined by Laura Robinson of Worditude. Laura is a marketing mentor for people who sell their expertise online as 1:1 services, courses, memberships and programmes. She has business, marketing and copywriting qualifications up the wazoo, and she especially loves to apply her 20+ years of experience working with people who want a comfy business — one that brings in the money they want and need, in a way that comfortably fits with whatever Life Stuff they've got going on. Having spent years berating herself for making slow progress, not keeping up, falling behind people who started out at the same time as her, Laura realised she's actually pretty freaking amazing for sticking with it, and growing her business slowly but surely each year. In this episode Laura and I celebrate how awesome it is to have Life Stuff going on, and still be building a business anyway — especially when a whole lot of business advice is actually not that useful for us. At the end of 2021, Laura set herself a a massive challenge…. Go for a walk everyday for a year! At the time she honestly thought she would last a week, or maybe a month tops. There were a few reasons for the challenge but one of the biggest ones was listening to someone who had lost a massive amount of weight, describe how they could finally be happy now they are living in a thinner body. Laura had heard this before, but this time she reflected and realised she was already happy. She had a wonderful family, a great job and a wonderful life… she was just frustrated that she had been trying to change her body every day for at least 25 years and nothing had ever worked. It was in that moment of reflection that Laura realised she had been doing so much damage to her body and her mind while striving for something that really in the grand scheme of things didn't matter. She needed to be kind to herself like she would be to her family or best mate! What really mattered was that her 3 kids had a great role model that didn't obsess over their weight and could keep up with how busy they were. Ultimately the decision to walk every day was for the kids, but she also needed to fit it in around them and was working almost full time. The more walking Laura did, the better she felt physically, but she also felt better emotionally and mentally. Within the first few weeks she discovered so many more amazing benefits and became acutely aware how much her mindset was changing. She also realised that of all the people she was following on social media, not one of them was like her. While there was extreme dieting or extreme fitness models, and loads of weight loss surgery accounts, nobody was taking a gentle approach. Laura decided that ‘you can't be what you can't see' so began sharing her journey on Instagram. The community that has grown from this experience has kept Laura inspired to continue encouraging and inspiring people to be as kind as they can be to themselves, and to spread kindness across the whole community in the hope of making this world a more loving and nurturing one.Socials:Insta: Laura Robinson @legging_it_with_laura Enjoy the visual here on Youtube

Writing a musical is a long process, and once the writers are have finished that last page…that's really only the beginning of their journey. By the time an actor comes along to audition for it, there's usually been years of drafts, workshops, and revisions. Listeners of this podcast know that this summer has been a welcome return to the stage for me in a new theatrical adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, my first musical since the covid shutdown. And it all started with a self-tape audition back in February of this year that then culminated in several callbacks with the creative team a few weeks later. Well today, I'm joined by two of the people who were in that audition room: composer Matt Vinson and writer Matte O'Brien. While there have been individual writers and composers on previous episodes, this is the first time welcoming a musical writing team to the show. Matt and Matte have done several musicals together, but for this conversation we focus on the many years it has taken for Anne of Green Gables to get to Goodspeed Musicals in Connecticut, and how they are preparing for its potential future. Matt and Matte share three stories of its humble beginnings, learning to take (and not take) feedback from others, and how actors influence the rewriting and editing process. Montgomery Her 1908 novel about a red-headed orphan girl has sold more than 50 million copies and made her known throughout the world with generations of fans. But what is really known about L.M. Montgomery, who was called ‘Maud' by close friends and family. She started out as a single schoolteacher, but went on to marry a minister, gave birth to two sons, and wrote many more books. But in 1985, publication began of a journal Montgomery had been keeping for fifty-three years. It was quite a shocking exposé of a woman who was often depressed, dealt with a horrible marriage, yet found her greatest happiness from deep, intimate and meaningful relationships with female friends. And so for decades an undercurrent of Lesbianism has been debated not only for the central character of Anne Shirley but also the author herself. This came to a head in 2000 when professor Laura Robinson published a paper named “Bosom Friends: Lesbian Desire in L. M. Montgomery's Anne Books,” where she argued that Anne had more passionate relationships with her female friends than her male love interest. This has not sat well with those who view Anne's female friendships as both innocent and platonic. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Friday, July 15. There will be a chance for rain early and a chance for rain at the end of the day Friday. According to the National Weather Service there will be a 40 to 50 percent chance for rain in the Cedar Rapids area Friday morning, with the chance decreasing by 1 p.m. The chance for rain will spike up to around 30 percent Friday night. Emergency responders are continuing to search the Cedar River near Palisades-Kepler State Park for an 11-year-old girl, identified Thursday by the Linn County Sheriff's Office as Zyah Thomas of Cedar Rapids. Crews were called to the state park Wednesday afternoon when the girl reportedly went into the water and began to struggle, according to a new release. The search continued throughout the rest of Wednesday. In a tweet Thursday, the Sheriff's Office identified the girl by name and called the incident a drowning. Sheriff Brian Gardner said Thomas was visiting the beach area Wednesday with her family. Progress on a 640-acre solar farm near Coggon — approved by the Linn County Board of Supervisors after contentious public meetings — is on hold while a court resolves a case brought against the supervisors by a family who lives near the planned project. On Wednesday, the Iowa Utilities Board denied Coggon Solar LLC's request for a certificate of public convenience, use and necessity until the court acts. The certificate is the permit that authorizes Coggon Solar LLC to operate a public facility within the area and is typically for public utilities or similar entities. https://www.thegazette.com/local-government/linn-county-supervisors-vote-2-1-to-approve-coggon-solar-project/ (In January, the supervisors voted 2-1) to approve rezoning in the area to allow for the project. The approval meant that about 750 acres would be rezoned from agricultural to agricultural with a renewable energy overlay that expires after 35 years. In February, Martin Robinson, Paula Robinson, Tom Robinson and Laura Robinson filed an appeal and initiated a proceeding in Linn County District Court to challenge the zoning decision. The Robinsons had been present at several of the meetings about the solar project and had expressed concerns about the effect it might have on property values, among other criticisms.
