SERIES 2 EPISODE 190: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Timing is everything, and for once the timing was perfect. Steve Bannon has been ordered to go to prison. Ordered on June 6th. Ordered on the anniversary of D-Day, when we destroyed everything his predecessors stood for. He doesn't get it yet. We will destroy HIM and what HE stands for. And all who stand with him. And Trump. And as he stood outside court - jailed by a Trump-appointed judge who once clerked for Clarence Thomas - he was boasting to the vapid press that, no, he will destroy us and his fascism will subsume America, as he insisted no jail would ever shut him up, a protestor behind him drowned him out with shouts of "Lock Him Up!" because when all you have is noise and threats, you tend to forget that there is always somebody else with more noise and bigger threats. THERE IS ALSO NEW POLLING on what happens if Trump joins him in the slammer. The Reuters-Ipsos Poll says actual jail time could cost Trump 23% of his voters. That could be as much as 17,000,000 votes. Even as time and timidity wear that number down, it's a remarkable game-changer. PLUS: Trump glitched again at a Word Salad Rally in Phoenix, while the Democratic National Committee is actually putting up billboards near his events emphasizing "CONVICTED FELON DONALD TRUMP." And there's more from The Supreme Court: a watchdog group says Clarence Thomas may have gotten as much as $4,000,000 in gifts in the last 20 years. And Brett Kavanaugh is writing a book! Hey! Is it a book about assault? B-Block (24:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: There's a name-that-hockey-team contest in Salt Lake City and the six final choices are all nightmarishly bad. So, Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, J.D. Vance, Doug Burgum, Ben Carson, Byron Donalds, and Elise Stefanik. You're being vetted to run with Trump? When he encouraged them to HANG the last guy? And your daily reason to fire Merrick Garland: there may be videotape of Carlson, Hannity, Ingraham and others at Fox vivisecting Trump and saying his 2020 Election claims are crap, and you are working to RETURN THESE TAPES TO FOX? C-Block (33:25) FRIDAYS WITH THURBER: Any time the news is full of Trump-driven drivel and MAGA conspiracies, is a good time to remember Thurber's account of the day in 1913 that the dam outside his home of Columbus, Ohio, broke and everybody fled. Only it hadn't broken - and they were running in the wrong direction anyway. "The Day The Damn Broke."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Violent Vacation with Peruvian Nuns was a tape released by the UK skate/thrash band The Stupids in 1986. In the village where I grew up (literally, legally a “village”), I was not on the cutting edge of knowledge about hardcore punk. The only radio stations within range were top 40, oldies or country, except for a freeform college radio station from Ann Arbor. When my family took a month long road trip in maybe summer 1988, we stopped a few days in San Diego. I might have passed over this tape at the swap meet, never heard of The Stupids before, but the cover had a cartoon of a twitching guy in a wheelchair by Don Martin. Great music, problematic pseudonyms and album titles, probably problematic lyrics but who can understand what Brits are singing? And I bet they used the cartoon without paying Don Martin or Mad Magazine. Rascals!Credits:The opening and middle transitional music clips were from The Sun Sets at Dawn (1950), and the closing music was from Killer Bait (1949), both films in the public domain. SERIES 2 EPISODE 52: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: It is nearly impossible to be shocked by anything bubbling up in Jack Smith's prosecutions of Donald Trump, and yet Smith has pulled it off. He has promised the court that during the trial of the United States vs. Trump for the stolen documents and secrets: "Why it occurred, what Trump knew, and what Trump intended in retaining them – all issues that the Government will prove at trial, primarily with unclassified evidence." It's a stunning guarantee, buried deep in Smith's filing, answering why Trump should to get his wish to delay the trial until after the election. And he tantalizes us: because nothing else in the motion even REFERS to it, let alone explains it. But it does dovetail with the latest grim details from Israel - and the awful echoes from Washington.Senator Josh Hawley, Republican of Missouri, has now demanded that American aide to Ukraine be CUT OFF and sent instead to Israel, as if there were a reason for such a false either/or choice, and apparently unaware that people can see that his own performance and that of the rest of the Republican anti-Ukraine caucus is not in support of Israel but actually in support of Hamas and Iran. Twice in the last year the Kremlin invited Hamas to send delegations to Moscow and the terrorist group's leadership met with Putin's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov in September 2022 and this past March. There is considerable analysis being done in Europe that the Russians encouraged – even bribed – Hamas, to undertake the full-scale attack that began from the Gaza Strip on Saturday and continues even at this hour. The Russians, this analysis reasons, wanted this because they are Iran's leading ally and because a Middle East conflict of almost any size would amount to a second front, in which Western resources being dedicated to fighting the Russian invasion of Ukraine, might be re-directed TO Israel. In other words, Josh Hawley is doing exactly what the Russians want: degrading western support for Ukraine on the false excuse that the money must go instead to defend Israel. THAT would just give Russia a freer hand in Ukraine, and more money and materiel, to send to Hamas, to DEFEAT Israel, as Iran wants. It MUST not be forgotten, especially not at this hour, that on May 10th, 2017, in the Oval Office, Trump disclosed classified intelligence – classified intelligence obtained by the Israelis – about an ISIS plot the Israelis unraveled in a town in Syria. Trump gave the information, directly, to Putin's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The same man who twice met with the Hamas delegations in Moscow. PLUS: not only confirmation that Egypt warned Israel about an attack from Gaza, but a reason to suspect that somebody in the Netanyahu government has thrown the defense services under the bus to protect the troubled Prime Minister. B-Block (26:12) IN SPORTS: Steve Garvey? Running for Senator? The baseball hero whose political career died in 1988 when he became "The Father Of Our Country"? His old team underscores baseball's playoff crisis. Hockey dives further into homophobia. And one of that game's best ambassadors has to quit to attend to his own health. (39:07) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Has-been Aaron Rodgers says nasty things about Taylor Swift's boyfriend who they still pay to make commercials, there's a 1/6 defendant worried about "chest-feeding" and the Murdoch empire inadvertently reveals that if the Democrats were to switch candidates, there's one alternate choice with all the name recognition in the world. C-Block (45:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: The words were spoken by the best Communications professor I ever had, 44 or 45 years ago. And every week since - and literally yesterday - it's been ignored. "Whatever you do: DON'T SAY THIS."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The past few years there's been a focus on individuals, being called to start to recognise and unpack our privilege, and look at behaviours or actions that might be harmful to others. The new age world has come under fire for things like cultural appropriation, toxic positivity and victim blaming. But is it all bad? Does that mean we need to walk away from these new age spiritual practices altogether? Or is there a way we can do them that is in integrity and causes no harm? Today, we are joined by the incredible Don Martin. Don is the host of the Head on Fire podcast, and author of the book The Dabblers Guide to Witchcraft - a book that I'm really loving right now.  He's also published two collections of poetry - the first is called The Playground and the most recent is called while i wait to be a god again Don is here to do a big debunking of modern witchcraft and share with us how to create spiritual practices and rituals that work for us, and cause no harm. Today, I'll be having a conversation with Ken Barber Ken is a lettering artist, type designer, author, and educator. For 30 years, he's made distinctive logos for global brands and created dozens of fonts. He blames his obsession with letterforms on Don Martin comics, Santa Cruz skateboard graphics, and speed metal logos. Ken's work has been featured in a few fancy museums, including the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. He's an instructor at The Cooper Union in New York City, and teaches online lettering workshops with his wife, Lynn, to students around the globe. Currently, he's the type director and studio letterer at House Industries. Ken has written several books on design, including his award-winning Lettering Manual published in 2020. Oh, this conversation with Ken was full of takeaways. Ken shared wise insights learned throughout his career of over 30 years making and teaching lettering, things like having mentors, putting your foot in the door as a lettering artist, developing your own voice, and navigating the ups and downs of a career. Ken spoke openly about the things that he did to become a master in his craft and go from amateur to pro, and the good news is that these are all actionable steps that you can follow to do that as well. As a personal note, I have been wanting to interview Ken since day one, because I know how much value and insights he has to share. Now, after almost 100 podcasts under my belt, I dared to have him on the show and conduct the interview, which I dearly share with you today. Don Martin was a an elite level performing Baseball player who after college played some pro ball until an injury forced him into a different path in life, or was it faith? He felt a calling to help others, because of his upbringing and having family members that have served in the military, Don knew he wanted to give back to those who have severed our great nation.  We kick off the show with Don sharing his story and getting to know him a little better.   Fast-forward to today, Don is a very successful business man and is great at building relationships with other entrepreneurs. We discuss networking, helping others and a new project he has now for veterans called Veterans Biz Connect (https://www.bizconnectcoalition.com/veteranbizconnect). Picture this, more business referrals, less uncomfortable conversations and more enjoyable experience networking with fellow veterans.  That's what Veteran Biz connect is all about.  More than 60 % of people won't attend a traditional networking event like the chambers of commerce, business card exchanges, mixers or business lunches because they felt uncomfortable.  Well now there is a networking opportunity for veterans right on line with Veteran Biz Connect. Here is an added bonus, if you are a veteran owned business you can have your company listed on veteransowned.biz for FREE, or as Don likes to say “Always free, never a fee”.   IF you are a veteran owned company, you need to check out both Veteran Biz Connect  and veteranowned.biz   We wrap up the show with Don sharing two “Decision Hour” moments in his life, one about playing baseball and the other, coaching entrepreneurs to success. Don has been coaching  entrepreneurs for nearly two decades. There is no doubt he has a passion to help others succeed.
