It has been just over 15 years since this incredible story touched those across the world. It’s a story that has stuck with us ever since it first made national news so we had to hear it from the man himself. Jason McElwain is in the house today to share his journey and the best part is it’s truly just getting started. J-Mac was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 and was told that he would never walk or talk. He overcame all odds and had a strong love for the game of basketball. Admired and respected by both coaches and teammates alike,he was named team manager at Greece Athena High School where he gladly accepted the position to do anything he could to help better the team. The last game of the regular season he was rewarded for his hard work and got an opportunity to play. J-Mac was “hot as a pistol” and scored 20 points in 4 minutes including six 3-pointers. His performance became a national story that was both emotional and inspirational. He won an ESPY award to go along with many other accolades. J-Mac to this day still puts the team before any of his fame which shows the coach in him. He currently is coaching high school basketball, and is an accomplished runner, author, and speaker. There truly is nothing J-Mac doesn’t do.Our time with J-Mac was incredible. We really enjoyed hearing about that amazing 20-point night and everything he has done since. He has been such an inspiration to the autism community and many others across the world.
