Join the living salt revolution! “Chief Mineral Officer” at Baja Gold, Michael Sileck shares fascinating wisdom on the power of unrefined sea salt and the importance of pure harvesting methods and trace element retention for maximum health benefits. This highly flavorful sea salt is naturally lower in sodium and rich in macro minerals such as magnesium, potassium, and calcium. I was fascinated by the lab testing done by Baja Gold to assure that it is free of microplastics, heavy metals, and pesticides such as glyphosate.

This week, we launch the Church Times Book Club Podcast, a new monthly series produced in association with the Church Times Festival of Faith and Literature. This month, Sarah Meyrick talks to Susan Gray about a title she chose for this month's Church Times Book Club: The Living Sea of Waking Dreams by the Australian writer Richard Flannagan (who also wrote The Narrow Road to the Deep North, which won the 2014 Booker Prize). The Living Sea of Waking Dreams tells the story of three Tasmanian siblings — Anna, Terzo, and Tommy — who are caring for their mother, Francie, at the end of her life. Flanagan wrote the novel in 2016, during the Tasmanian bushfires, and then updated it the next year when bushfires raged across Australia. “Climate change and wildlife extinction is deftly woven into a story of familial bonds and end-of-life care, and works as a broader canvas supporting the central narrative,” Susan writes in this week's Church Times (6 May). The Living Sea of Waking Dreams is published by Vintage at £8.99 (Church Times Bookshop £8.09); 978-1-5291-1405-8. Susan Gray writes about the arts and entertainment for The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Times, and the Daily Mail. Steve Wood has lived a rich musical life, full of synchronicities. Leading like a lucid dream from one expression to the next, always guided by both his inner voice and a buoyant, or dare I say, defiant spirit accepting only passion as a course of action. His joie de vivre is both evident and shining as ever as this wonderfully accomplished rock musician, turned IMAX wunderkind composer, walks you through his storied and fascinating life. What a pleasure it is to bring this interview with the Wizard of the big screen to light! At age 14 Steve Wood was living the young surfer's dream of living on the beach in Newport Beach, California where he could surf every day before and after (and sometimes during) school. His world came crashing down when his father was transferred to Dallas, Texas. Not knowing what to do when he got there, he bought his first guitar and started a band. Two years later he had a number 4 record on the local charts and he had stumbled onto his life's path. Moving back to California he played in a variety of local bands for a couple of years until he founded the band Honk which composed the soundtrack for Greg MacGillivray's iconic surfing movie “Five Summer Stories”. A song from that movie became number 1 in Hawaii and soon Honk had a major recording contract and was touring with The Beach Boys, Loggins and Messina and Chicago. Several years later Steve became the keyboard player and musical director for Kenny Loggins, a position he held for 10 years. During that time he wrote several chart making songs with Kenny and helped produce several hits including “Footloose”.In the meantime Greg MacGillivray shifted from surf movies to become the most successful IMAX documentary film maker in history. He tapped Steve to compose scores for 30 of his films including “Everest”, “The Living Sea” and “Dolphins”. Steve's work earned him 8 “Best Score” awards, the most by any composer and allowed him to work with Sting, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, The Moody Blues, Dave Matthews Band and Brian May of Queen along with a host of others.Among his other accomplishments are his Clio Award winning work with Stevie Wonder and his production and composition work for Sony Classical artists. He composed, recorded and mixed the music for 2 PBS specials filmed at the Colosseum in Rome and ancient Agora Amphitheater in Thessaloniki, Greece. He is currently composing and working with his wife Beth Fitchet Wood, a gifted singer songwriter. He is also producing an upcoming series of live streams of gifted up and coming musicians from high schools from around Orange County, California with Laguna Beach Live where he is a board member.

One of Australia's greatest writers and seer of our times, Booker Prize-winner Richard Flanagan's The Living Sea of Waking Dreams describes the end of a family and the end of the world. Documenting the slow death of a matriarch in a Hobart hospital, and the tumult it causes amongst her children, this achingly sad but still hopeful novel deploys magical realism, black humour and Richard's masterfully poetic prose to explore the way humanity loves, neglects and destroys itself and the beautiful world it inhabits.
