This is a bit of a different episode for me. This was born from a friend showing me LLNN's album, "Unmaker", and becoming OBSESSED with it. Initially this was an album I was getting into heavy going back to the gym, but couldn't shake the hold it had over me and the feelings it would evoke out of me. Feelings of anger and despair and hopelessness. What I didn't anticipate was my foot injury that led to having surgery and being laid up a few months later, and in the darkness of sitting in my bed late at night I'd listen to this album more and I eventually came to this realization that sometimes we need to wallow in something to really help us process our emotions and work our way out of these negative feelings. This is my chat with the bands new vocalist/guitarist Victor, where we dive into some of these emotions that the bands music brings out. We get into how Victor joined the band, how it was for him to find his way into music that he didn't necessarily have a hand in creating but understanding its impact. Victor also shares what it was like growing up in Denmark and how he first got into playing music, some of his early influences as well as talking about the small scene that he and others were building. We talk about what's in store for LLNN in the new year, touring stateside and more. 2024 is in it's final days and as is traditional it's time for us to talk aout all of the fantastic music released this year. This year Tracey & Colin have been on board with Charli XCX's Brat summer, while Ian has pretty much avoided it entirely while he's been rocking out to masked Hardcore bands with salsa rhythms. It's been another absolutely amazing year for music and it's been really difficult narrowing it down to 10 songs each.We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. Interview by Kris PetersFresh from a run of Australian shows with Ne Obliviscaris and Rivers Of Nihil last September, German based post metal outfit The Ocean are set to return this June for their first headlining dates in this country in almost a decade.The band left an indellible impression on concert-goers when they were here late last year and have promised to up the ante even more for this tour which starts in Brisbane on June 5.Bringing their biggest production yet, as well as legendary US hardcore pioneers Cave In for their first Aussie shows EVER and insanely heavy Danish label mates LLNN, The Ocean will be showcasing last years ninth album Holocene, said to be the bands most exploratory and varied release yet.Guitarist Robin Staps sat down with HEAVY to reveal more."We're looking forward to being back," he began. "We were only over there last September but we're stoked to come back with a full headline set this time and to present you guys our new record Holecene, which we haven't been touring with so far. We just played one track on the last tour so there's goign to be a lot of songs we haven't really played live on your precious continent before and we're stoked to do that.""I'm in the middle of tour preparations right now," he continued. "Inevitably you start dealing with a tour more than a couple of weeks in advance. There's a lot of logistics involved. We're also doing South East Asian dates before we get to Australia and just the whole luggage and merch shipping and transport situation is extremely complicated. So unfortunately right now it's quite mundane logistics stuff, but i'm very much looking forward to finally being over there and touring and playing shows. We love Australia, ity's always been great. This time I have a feeling we're actually going to be able to enjoy it (laughs). The last couple of times it was always super early morning flights so we just didn't sleep. Heaviness is important! Really important. Many people would say that Chicago-based sludge/doom/noise band Indian are the heaviest thing they ever heard - if you listen to their records that becomes quite clear. But when listening to Copenhagen's sludge-maniacs LLNN one has admit, there's a strong new contender. Just let Unmaker cleanse your ears with corroded pincers and that will become quite apparent! Unmaker (here you can find our review to it) is one of those records which will leave more than a bit of an impression on one's ears and minds. And therefore we wanted to sit down with LLNN's singer Christian Bonnesen and talk with him about riffs, sound and heaviness, about song titles, his recent bachelor party and his love for “the Bizkit”!
