For part 2 of the FN Video Game Swap, we're talking about Lost In Random! Lost in Random is an action-adventure game developed by Zoink and published by Electronic Arts. Part of the EA Originals program, the game was released 10 September 2021. It was the final game developed by Zoink prior to their consolidation into Thunderful Development. It received generally positive reviews from critics. A sequel titled Lost in Random: The Eternal Die is in development at Thunderful and is scheduled for a 2025 release.We talk about the card-based combat system and how it's a super interesting idea that overstays its welcome sometimes. We also discuss how much we love the setting, writing, and world and how it all reminds us of movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Boxtrolls or Coraline. This show gets lost there all the time! In a fitting move, the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button has randomly selected this aptly titled third-person action-adventure game. As the final game developed by Zoink before it was absorbed into Thunderful Development, this title has some decidedly indie sensibilities, including both literal dice rolls and card mechanics integrated into its otherwise action-style combat. Considering his appreciation of physical board games and his general aversion to digital card games, it will be interesting to see how Tom reacts to this particular mix. Alexandra Dahlberg is a writer at Zoink, now a part of Thunderful Games, based in Sweden. Zoink's newest release, Lost in Random, is a 2021 third-person action/adventure game. I met Alexandra Dahlberg on social media and after realizing she worked on Lost in Random, I bought it, played through it twice, and then interviewed her about a week after the game's release.  We talk about game narrative, writing games, the editing process, casting voice actors, translation and localization, and we even address the question: is Lost In Random indie?
