Grandpa Bill welcomes back guest Madonna Hanna-Madonna Hanna, a 71-year-old woman who is a runner. She is a woman of many talents, including being an executive in the fashion industry, a teacher, an actor, a playwright, an auctioneer, a children's book author, and a motivational speaker. She never thought about running until she was 57 years old. Her husband, Steven, coached her until he passed away in 2018. Despite setbacks, including a ruptured Achilles, she stuck with it and improved her strength, balance, and flexibility. She has competed in four National Senior Games and recently achieved her goal of winning a gold medal in the 4x100 meter relay. Her coach, Marcus Chambers, is a world-class sprinter himself. He says that it means the world to him to see her reach her goals and that they have a lot more records to break in the future. Madonna is driven by passion, purpose, and a commitment she made to her late husband. She says that it is never too late to chase your dreams and that absolutely anything is possible.   "Since winning your gold medal at the National Senior Games, you've mentioned wanting to break more records. What specific goals have you set for yourself in the next year, both in running and in other aspects of your life?" This question goes beyond simply asking about her running journey and delves into her overall personal growth and future aspirations. It encourages her to share specific details and ambitions, which can be engaging for listeners. 2. "You've overcome challenges like losing your husband and a ruptured Achilles. What specific strategies do you use to stay motivated and overcome obstacles, especially those that might seem insurmountable at first?"

Grandpa Bill today overviews my earlier this year guest, Madonna Hanna Part 1 Original Guest Appearance on My Podcast Achieving Your Goals at ANY AGE with National Senior Games Champion Madonna Hanna -https://youtu.be/L-MiGDfXeKc Were You Bullied? The Evolution of the: “Beautiful Differences Play / Community Service Project” (First Draft: 9.19, 2002) The Beautiful Differences play was originally funded by a grant provided by the Milken Family Foundation Festival for Youth Community Service Grant Program. Madonna Hanna, the grant coordinator was a 1999 Milken Family Foundation National Educator. This original play written by Madonna, revolves around and upcoming fashion show, a mysterious stranger and three groups of children: a popular kid, special education students and outcast students. The message of the play: teasing, bullying and poking fun is not fashionable: being proud of yourself, accepting others and working together is in style! Madonna's inspiration for the play is her book Mommy, Why Are My Eyes So Big? and her award winning fashion show project Flights of Fancy. The Flights of Fancy fashion show features people with disabilities as runway models. The purpose of the play is to communicate an important message in a non-threatening manner. Children of all ages love the arts, therefore a play is a natural tool to use to deliver a powerful message. In turn, high school students have a responsibility to guide their younger peers in the right direction in this play ,they did JUST THAT. The play is about physically challenged and outcast students who discuss being excluded then included in a school fashion show. Initially they don't think they have a chance but they eventually muster the fortitude to try out. Pre and post play activities have been created to reinforce the plays message of acceptance. The Impact of the Community Service Project The community service project inspired the participation of the Bremerton School District, the Bremerton Multi-Cultural Committee, Kitsap Regional Library, Kitsap Reading Council, The Bremerton Sun, The Bremerton Parks and Recreation Department, The Olympic Education Service District, Tacoma and Seattle schools and the former Bon Marche' Department stores (Now Macy's). Washington State Attorney General Christine O. Gregoire, added the Beautiful Differences to the AG Office online publication the Anti- Bullying Toolkit. U.S Senator Patty Murray, “As a United States Senator and a former educator, education is one of my highest priorities. I applaud programs, such as yours, that teach self-esteem and mutual respect. These are invaluable lessons for today's youth.” Senator Murray's shared her Beautiful Difference: “When I was selected to the United States Senate-I was the first mom ever with kids at home and the first preschool teacher in the history of the country to be a United States Senator. As a Mom and teachers I know I bring a different but importance to all the policies decided by the United States Senate.” The project provided high school students with the opportunity to demonstrate reading, performing arts, leadership, mentoring and communication skills. Elementary students demonstrated skills in writing and verbalizing the concept of acceptance, tolerance and intervention. The Beautiful Differences Project was funded two consecutive school years (2000-2002) by the Milken Family Foundation Festival For Youth Grant. The Beautiful Differences Community Service project earned a Bronze Medal-2002 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, Kansas City, MO Madonna authored, Mommy Why Are My Eyes So Big? PLEASE NOTE THERE IS SOME ADDITIONAL 1500 CHARACTERS IN THIS PDF OUTLINE LISTEN IN PLEASE PAY IT FORWARD! The BD community service project was recognized by the State of Washington Office of the Governor, Gary Locke, Governor; also assisted with the support of House Bill 1444 State of Washington 57th (Signed into law March 28, 2002) #bullying,#hate --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bhsales/message

Madonna Hanna Madonna Hanna When You Drop Kick The Drama Anything is Possible! Biography I was the only African-American student in my elementary school class and including me there were only 8 African Americans in my graduating high school class. Despite my creativity and talent, I faced bullying, racial prejudice, and isolation at school due to the color of her skin. My retail education prepared me to be recruited into a prestigious retail management/ executive training program in one of the largest department stores in New England.I also worked at the corporate headquarters of a national women's apparel manufacturing corporation. Later embarking on a 32 year career teaching Fashion Marketing in Washington State. I developed numerous anti-bullying programs, and was recognized for excellence in teaching at the state and national level! LIFE TODAY As a retiree and widow, I continues to win awards as a senior athlete in track and field. Presently, I am writing a monthly column in a local paper chronicling my journey to the National Senior Games. I am also motivational speaker committed to preventing bullying in schools and promoting an active second act. Also a member of Toastmasters International where I participates in international speech contests. My goal Is to utilize my skills, talents and experiences to assist others with achieving their goals and dreams; while building their self-esteem. About Madonna I truly believe that when people drop kick the drama in their lives...Anything is POSSIBLE! I am a living example of that statement. I should be booked as guest because, I am a charismatic, energetic and dynamic survivor! Thank goodness I was bullied as a child. Being bullied prepared me to grow a thick skin and helped me to stand my ground as a retail executive in a conservative white city like Boston. I later became a high school Fashion Marketing educator in Washington State. Absolutely, no bullying allowed in my classroom! I look forward to sharing my anti-bullying classroom strategies and the anti-bullying campaigns I created and shared with schools in Washington State. Also, as a retired person, on whim at the age of 57, (10 years ago) I became a competitive amateur sprinter. Mind you I had no prior experience at all in track and field. I have competed in numerous Washington State Senior Game events and am preparing for my 3rd. National Senior Game event, May 2022. My coach is a 2021 Olympic hopeful. Yes, I can share tips on what it's like to be- teaching millennials in a class room, then retire and be bossed by a millennia. I believe seniors can live an exciting "Big Life!" Just because your old does not mean you don't have a future! I am also a widow ,going on three years. I believe widows and widowers can inspire others by reaching out/volunteering and being rainbows that brighten the lives of others. I definitely love to using my experiences, talents and skills to encourage people of all age to achieve their dreams and goals! Thank Goodness I Was Bullied! Many may be struck by this statement, some may even find it a bit offensive. That I can understand, because when I first read it, I was a bit struck too. Those who have been bullied may even find the statement a bit hurtful and that is by no means the intention. Regular listeners to the DTH podcast know that I speak often of the lessons of my life, and this is definitely one of those times. Both my guest, Madonna Hanna, and I speak on this topic with passion and vulnerability from a position of personal experience. It is my great honor to have met, and share with all of you, this conversation my new friend Madonna Hanna because of her statement, "Thank goodness I was bullied!"Who is Madonna B. Hanna? Madonna was born on the Pensacola Naval Base and was raised in the conservative white suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts during the 60s and 70s. She was the only African-American student in her elementary school class. Her parents overcame incredible obstacles of discrimination to provide their family with the American dream of a suburban middle-class lifestyle.  Despite her creativity and talent, Madonna faced bullying, racial prejudice, and isolation at school due to the color of her skin. At that time, many white parents would not allow their children to play with her, which is why she only had a few friends.  The pain, loneliness, and injustice Madonna experienced could have destroyed her. But reflecting on it now, she recognizes that these adversities taught her how to meet future challenges with determination. It also informed her decision to always treat others with respect and compassion. Everybody feels like an imposter at first until we decide to push through in order to get to the next side. It's really hard to grow if we're always comfortable but we need to get out of our comfort zone to improve. Consistency wins the game for everything and I talk about that in today's episode of The Launch Your Life Podcast with Madonna Hanna who is a competitive sprinter in the 50 meter and 100 meter dash, motivational speaker, freelance writer, and actress. Tune in today and get motivation to get started on whatever your dream is. When I got back into exercise in 2014 I had to fight with myself to do it because I had this mindset that exercise was punishment. I don't know where that came from. It's really hard to grow if we're always comfortable. But we need to get out of our comfort zone to improve. I always like to tell people that the best exercise is one you'll do with consistency.  Because consistency wins the game for everything. Growing up in the conservative Boston area, Madonna Hanna was usually only one of a handful of children of colour in her schools. She was bullied and discounted and her experiences both as a child and as an adult gave her both "thick skin" and a lot of resilience. On numerous occasions, Madonna "took the high road" because to respond or react, would only sink her to the same level as her antagonists.  She led by example both in the east coast fashion business and as a teacher on the west coast. Most people would find that more than enough to define their life's work but Madonna added athlete, widowhood and acting to her repertoire. Madonna shares all with deep thought combined with great wit and much humour. Then she put it aside as she raised her family, and didn't take it up again until she semi-retired. So while she wasn't a complete novice, she was starting over. One of the things that impresses me the most about her story is her comfort with solo travel. I think that's something that becomes a necessary option for women my age. Some of us are single or have partners that don't have the same desire to see the world. Being happy with our own company is essential. Personally I have not had an active lifestyle. I greatly admire my guests like sprinter Madonna Hanna and biker Leslie Kasanoff but I'm not there yet. I am well aware of the things I need to be doing to feel fit and healthy as I age. She felt a desire to do something at a very young age and even though many years passed she never let go of the dream. Now some of us who have put things off until later in life off have to make some adjustments.  I'm not going to be a ballerina at this point but I could take a dance class. We can get a version of what we always wanted but maybe not the exact thing we imagined when we were small. That's not the case with Madonna, and she has the medals to prove it. She didn't let injury stop her, or the death of her beloved coach. She is serious about sprinting but you can tell from our laughter that she is enjoying her life. There are some problems early on with her microphone. I apologize, and hope you agree that her spirit and her stories make it not that noticeable. For all of us who watch the Olympics and imagine being a champion athlete, I hope you enjoy this interview. Full transcript available at https://ialwayswantedto.net
