"The Procrastinator's Brain: Unraveling the Neuroscience behind our Delays" W/ Terre Short

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 17, 2023 33:21

Procrastination is something we all deal with, whether it's putting off a task at work or avoiding going to the gym. It's a habit that can negatively impact our lives in various ways, from increasing stress levels to harming our overall health and wellbeing. But why do we procrastinate, and what can we do to break the cycle? According to Terre Short, the answer lies in our brain's reward system. "Our brain is wired to seek pleasure and avoid pain," she explains. "When we have a task that we don't want to do, it can feel like a source of pain. So, our brain starts to look for alternatives that can offer immediate pleasure instead." This is where procrastination comes in. "When we procrastinate, we're not necessarily lazy or unmotivated," Terre clarifies. "Our brain is simply trying to find a more pleasant way to spend our time." This might mean scrolling through social media, watching TV, or engaging in other activities that give us an immediate sense of pleasure. Unfortunately, this behavior can become a habit over time, making it even harder to break. But there are ways to combat procrastination and improve our productivity. Terri recommends the following strategies: 1. Recognize your triggers: Try to identify what makes you procrastinate in the first place. Is it a particular task, a certain time of day, or a specific environment? Once you know your triggers, you can work to avoid or minimize them. 2. Break tasks into smaller chunks: If a task seems overwhelming or unpleasant, try breaking it down into smaller, more manageable steps. This can make it feel less daunting and more achievable. 3. Set deadlines and hold yourself accountable: Give yourself a deadline for completing a task, and stick to it. You can also enlist the help of a friend or coworker to hold you accountable. 4. Find ways to make tasks more enjoyable: Can you listen to music or a podcast while you work? Can you work in a more pleasant environment? Try to find ways to make tasks more enjoyable or engaging. By implementing these strategies and understanding the neuroscience behind procrastination, we can break the cycle and improve our overall health and wellbeing. Welcome to this week's episode of "Mindful Living with Amy Novotny". In this episode, we'll be talking about how to calm down our nervous system and get out of the fight or flight response.Have you ever experienced that feeling of being stuck in a state of heightened anxiety, where everything seems like a threat and you feel constantly on edge? Well, that's what we call the fight or flight response, and it's something that our bodies have evolved to do in response to stressors. But sometimes, our bodies can get stuck in this state, even when there's no real threat present. And that's when we start to experience symptoms like anxiety, panic attacks, and even physical health problems. So, how can we get out of the fight or flight response and calm down our nervous system?Firstly, it's important to recognize when you're experiencing this response. Some signs may include feeling tense, heart racing, or sweating profusely. Once you've identified this, it's time to start practicing some simple techniques that can help calm you down. One technique that works really well for many people is deep breathing. Simply take a deep breath in, hold it for a few seconds, and then slowly release it. You can repeat this a few times until you feel calmer.Another technique is to use mindfulness to become aware of your thoughts and emotions. Often, just acknowledging what's going on in your mind can help to reduce the intensity of your fight or flight response.Additionally, taking time to do relaxing activities such as taking a walk in nature, reading a book, or taking a bath can also help you relax.Remember, it's important to take care of your body and mind by practicing self-care and getting the rest you need. This will not only help you feel better, but also help to keep your nervous system calm and in balance. To reach out to Amy Novotny Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dramynovotny/ (https://www.facebook.com/dramynovotny/)LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-amy-novotny/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-amy-novotny/)Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/anovotn/ (https://www.instagram.com/anovotn/)Twitter: https://twitter.com/amynovotnyaz (https://twitter.com/amynovotnyaz)website: https://pabrinstitute.com/ (https://pabrinstitute.com/)Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/DrAmyNovotny (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvRZjkWBxOArmujS9rUN8ig)Reach out to Infusion HealthPensighthttps://pensight.com/x/infusionhealthWebsite http://infusionhealthpodcast.com/?fbclid=IwAR0q2WW-No0O4XRbgRNVdmgo0vhqvQ18w2k3N9UohNl2vRbazqHuQFjU00IWe're excited to have you with us for today's show, and we hope you'll tune in for more great discussions on FB! The Abundant Life: Embracing Rebecca Whitman's Seven Pillars

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 26, 2023 33:08

As I sit here, pen in hand, ready to dive into the topic of abundance, my mind starts to swirl with ideas and questions. What does abundance truly mean? Is it a tangible thing that we can touch and feel? Or is it more of a mindset, a way of looking at the world and our place in it?After some reflection, I believe that abundance is a combination of both. It's a mindset that allows us to see all the blessings and opportunities that surround us, while also acknowledging the physical gifts we have been given. In this sense, abundance is not just about having more money or possessions, but about experiencing a fullness of life in all its many forms. So, what are the pillars of abundance? In my opinion, there are seven key components that make up a truly abundant life:1. Gratitude: This is perhaps the most important pillar of all. When we cultivate a mindset of gratitude, we open ourselves up to receiving more abundance. It's all about recognizing and appreciating the many blessings in our lives, no matter how big or small.2. Generosity: When we give freely and generously to others, we create a sense of abundance that radiates outwards. Whether it's giving our time, money, or resources, being generous is a key component of a life full of abundance.3. Courage: Sometimes, abundance requires us to step outside of our comfort zones and take risks. Whether it's starting a new business, pursuing a passion, or making a difficult life choice, having the courage to face challenges head-on is crucial.4. Mindfulness: In order to experience abundance, we need to be fully present in the moment and aware of our surroundings. By practicing mindfulness and being mindful of our thoughts and emotions, we can cultivate a deeper sense of connection and appreciation for the world around us.5. Resilience: Life is full of ups and downs, and we need to be resilient in order to weather the storms. When we can bounce back from adversity and find the silver lining in tough situations, we're better able to embrace abundance.6. Creativity: Creativity is the spark that ignites abundance. Whether it's painting, writing, cooking, or dancing, tapping into our creative side allows us to fully express ourselves and create abundance in all areas of our lives.7. Connection: Finally, abundance is all about connection - to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us. When we can forge meaningful relationships with others, and cultivate a deeper sense of connection with ourselves and the universe, we're truly living a life of abundance. In conclusion, abundance is not a finite thing that can be measured or weighed. It's a multifaceted concept that encompasses a wide range of values and beliefs. By embracing the seven pillars of abundance - gratitude, generosity, courage, mindfulness, resilience, creativity, and connection - we can cultivate a life that's truly rich and fulfilling.Reach out Rabecca Whitmanhttps://linktr.ee/rebeccaewhitmanPlanners https://garygarth.com/product/goals-grit-and-greatness-planner/https://a.co/d/aG58ZnRReach out to Infusion HealthPensighthttps://pensight.com/x/infusionhealthWebsite http://infusionhealthpodcast.com/?fbclid=IwAR0q2WW-No0O4XRbgRNVdmgo0vhqvQ18w2k3N9UohNl2vRbazqHuQFjU00ITrivia - The Mnemonic Tree PodcastQuiz & Fun Facts on the biggest names and events in history and a way to remember it all! We're excited to have you with us for today's show, and we hope you'll tune in for more great discussions on FB! A story of finding the life you love W/Kathleen Flanagan

Kathleen Flanagan's journey has been anything but ordinary. For most of her life, she's felt a strong pull towards something bigger, something spiritual. However, being a logical and pragmatic person, Kathleen didn't always follow these spiritual nudges. In fact, more often than not, she would resist them, convinced that she knew better. But as fate would have it, Kathleen always ended up following these callings, much to her own surprise. And every time she did, she discovered a world that was beyond anything she could have ever imagined. It was a world where miracles were commonplace, where love and kindness ruled supreme, and where peace and joy were the norm. For Kathleen, this spiritual journey has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of her life. And though she admits that there were times when she wished she could turn back the clock and ignore those crazy callings, she now knows that she wouldn't be where she is today if she hadn't listened to her inner voice. As she reflects on her journey, Kathleen can't help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for the guidance she's received along the way. She's grateful for the people who have crossed her path and showed her what it means to love unconditionally. She's grateful for the moments of pain and hardship, for they taught her resilience and compassion. And she's grateful for the times when she followed her intuition and stepped outside of her comfort zone, for they led her to experiences that have forever changed her. Looking towards the future, Kathleen knows that her spiritual journey is far from over. There will always be more callings to heed, more lessons to learn, and more love to give. But with each step she takes, she knows that she is exactly where she's meant to be - on a path of love, light, and spiritual awakening.Meditate with Kathleen https://bit.ly/3VLp7aTInfusion HealthPensighthttps://pensight.com/x/infusionhealthWebsite http://infusionhealthpodcast.com/?fbclid=IwAR0q2WW-No0O4XRbgRNVdmgo0vhqvQ18w2k3N9UohNl2vRbazqHuQFjU00IWe're excited to have you with us for today's show, and we hope you'll tune in for more great discussions on FB! The Hidden Reality of Big Pharma and the Benefits of CBD and Essential Oils W/ Rachelle Jackson NonToxic Lifestyle and Wellness Coach Essential Oil Educator

(DISCLAIMER)  Because we are not professionals. We will only give suggestions in the lighter subjects and bringing in professionals in harder subjects. In a world filled with stress and pain, people are constantly looking for natural remedies to help ease their discomfort. Enter Big Pharma, CBD and essential oils. These three entities have become increasingly popular in recent years, with many claiming that they can work wonders on various ailments. However, what is the truth behind the hype? Firstly, let's take a look at Big Pharma. This multi-billion-dollar industry is known for its production of pharmaceutical drugs. While there are undoubtedly some medications that are genuinely helpful and life-saving, many critics have pointed out the darker side of this industry. Pharmaceutical companies are known for pushing drugs onto patients who may not necessarily need them, with the main goal being profit rather than helping people. Additionally, these drugs often come with a slew of side effects that can be detrimental to a person's health. With this in mind, it's important to exercise caution when it comes to taking pharmaceuticals. Now onto CBD. This cannabinoid has been touted as a natural cure-all, with many people turning to it to alleviate anxiety, chronic pain, and inflammation. While there is certainly evidence to suggest that CBD can be beneficial for some people, there is also a lot of misinformation out there. CBD is not a miracle cure, and it's essential to understand that different people will experience different effects. Furthermore, many CBD products on the market are not adequately regulated, so it's important to do your research and find a reputable source. Lastly, let's talk about essential oils. These fragrant oils are often used in aromatherapy, and some claim that they can help with everything from headaches to digestive issues. However, there is little scientific evidence to support these claims, and it's crucial to exercise caution when using essential oils. Many essential oils are highly concentrated and can cause irritation or allergic reactions, so it's important to use them as directed and do your research before trying anything new. In conclusion, while Big Pharma, CBD, and essential oils all have their place in the world of natural remedies, it's important to exercise caution and understand the truth behind the hype. Be wary of misinformation, do your research, and always prioritize your health and safety. To reach out to Rachelle Jackson www.nontoxiclifestyle.comFacebook handle is HealthyhomeishealthylifeInstagram handle isInstagram.com/rachellejackson/LinkedIn handle isRachellejacksonReaching out to Podcast Infusion HealthPensighthttps://pensight.com/x/infusionhealthWebsite http://infusionhealthpodcast.com/?fbclid=IwAR0q2WW-No0O4XRbgRNVdmgo0vhqvQ18w2k3N9UohNl2vRbazqHuQFjU00ITop 5 Great Essential Oil Companies dōTerra  http://my.doterra.com/rachellass122 Young Living, Plant Therapy, Neal's Yard RemediesFor a Reputable CBD farmer/sellerhttps://groundedgardensmn.com/We're excited to have you with us for today's show, and we hope you'll tune in for more great discussions on FB! Let's begin with organic foods. The organic food movement has gained momentum in recent years as people seek healthier options and greater transparency in their food choices. While it is true that organic foods are grown without synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, it is important to note that organic does not necessarily mean healthier or more nutritious. In fact, some studies have found no significant difference in the nutritional content of organic versus conventionally grown produce. Additionally, organic foods may be more expensive and harder to access for those on a tight budget or in areas where organic farming is not prevalent. Next, let's discuss diet. There is no one-size-fits-all diet that is perfect for everyone. Different people have different dietary needs based on their age, gender, activity level, and overall health. That being said, there are some basic guidelines that can help people make healthy food choices. A diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats is generally considered to be healthy. Portion control and moderation are also important. Avoiding processed and packaged foods that are high in salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats can also be helpful in maintaining a healthy diet. Its teachings revolve around the idea that we are all connected and that everything in the universe is part of a greater whole. In Eckanbar, there is no hierarchy or dogma - instead, individuals are encouraged to explore their own spirituality and connect with the divine in their own way. While Eckanbar is relatively unknown in the Western world, it has strong roots in Asia, particularly in India and China. Its teachings share many similarities with Eastern religions such as Hinduism and Taoism, particularly in its emphasis on self-realization and the interconnectedness of all things. However, Eckanbar also has elements of Western mysticism and spirituality, particularly in its focus on the power of the mind to manifest one's desires and shape one's reality. This fusion of Eastern and Western spirituality is one of the key factors that makes Eckanbar such a unique and fascinating religion. Despite its relatively small following, Eckanbar has a strong and dedicated community of practitioners around the world. Its teachings have influenced countless individuals, both within and outside of the religion, and its emphasis on personal growth and spiritual exploration continues to resonate with people from all walks of life. In conclusion, Eckanbar may be a little-known religion, but its teachings and beliefs are powerful and impactful. Today on the podcast we're discussing the truth about paganism in Native American and Celtic cultures. Paganism is a set of religious beliefs that are generally non-monotheistic and characterized by worship of multiple deities or natural elements. Although each pagan culture has its own distinct belief systems, many aspects remain the same. The indigenous peoples of North America embraced animistic beliefs that often included spirits of the land and its elements. From ancient shamans to modern tribal rituals, a reverence for the land, the plants and animals within it, and the idea that spirit inhabits all things are central tenets of many pagan cultures in North America. In the Celtic culture, a polytheistic religion prevailed that focused on numerous gods and goddesses that embodied nature. Celts also placed emphasis on the various cycles of life, such as birth, death, and rebirth, and the deep spiritual connection to nature and the supernatural world. Druids were known to conduct rituals and other spiritual activities to ensure harmony between the natural and supernatural realms. To better understand the practices and rituals of the pagan religions found in Native American and Celtic cultures, be sure to tune in to our podcast and hear from some of the leading experts in this field. Today I want to talk about the truth behind why you need a chiropractor and some tips and tricks to avoid back pain. Did you know that misalignments of your spine and vertebrae can be a leading cause of back pain? Without regular spinal maintenance, the joint can be forced into poor posture, resulting in long-term health problems. That's why I'm here to help you prevent these issues. Chiropractors specialize in hands-on treatment to manually adjust misalignments of your spine, which in turn can relieve a variety of chronic and acute health problems, including headaches, back pain, and neck pain. As far as avoiding back pain goes, here are a few things that I would suggest. 1. Stretch regularly – especially when you've been sitting in one place for a while. Stretching helps to loosen tight muscles, reduce joint stiffness and improve blood circulation. 2. Take breaks when working on a computer or other digital devices. Too much sitting in one spot can put a strain on your muscles, leading to back pain. 3. Try low-impact exercises such as walking, biking or swimming to strengthen the muscles in your back and abdomen. 4. Avoid heavy lifting and twisting your body when you're moving objects. 5. Lastly, make sure that your work station and chair are set up ergonomically – having everything in the correct positions to support your back. These are just a few of my chiropractic tips for avoiding back pain. Remember, if you ever have questions about chiropractic care or back pain, I'm here to help.
