Citing concentration risk as well as the possibility for volatility, regulators are supposedly trying to prevent depositories from buying bonds. If this sounds familiar, it should since the PBOC did something similar in the summer of 2024. But in this case, the asset being targeted isn't local.Ā Eurodollar University's Money & Macro AnalysisChina Urges Banks to Curb Exposure to US Treasurieshttps://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-02-09/china-urges-banks-to-limit-holdings-of-us-treasuries-citing-market-volatilityForeign Holdings of US Treasuries Climbed to Record in Novemberhttps://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-01-15/foreign-holdings-of-us-treasuries-climbed-to-record-in-novemberDollar Global Transaction Use Jumps to New High, Swift Sayshttps://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-01-22/dollar-global-transaction-usage-jumps-to-new-high-swift-saysPBOC Says No Longer in China's Interest to Increase Reserves (2013)https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2013-11-20/pboc-says-no-longer-in-china-s-favor-to-boost-record-reserveshttps://www.eurodollar.universityTwitter: https://twitter.com/JeffSnider_EDU

Distant water fishing fleets are operating just beyond national borders, pulling massive amounts of squid from the ocean with almost no rules, and this episode asks a simple but urgent question: can the new high seas treaty stop ecological collapse before it is too late? Off the coast of Argentina, hundreds of vessels gather in international waters to exploit a regulatory loophole, threatening a keystone species that supports whales, seabirds, and entire food webs. What happens here does not stay here, it affects global fisheries, biodiversity, and the seafood on our plates. High seas squid fishing has exploded in recent years, with satellite data showing fishing effort increasing dramatically while oversight remains weak. In this episode, I break down how squid fuel marine ecosystems, why their short life cycle makes them especially vulnerable, and how unregulated fishing in places like Mile 201 puts the entire South Atlantic at risk. I also explain what the new high seas treaty actually does, what it cannot do, and why enforcement and political will matter more than headlines. High seas treaty 2026 is often described as historic, but one surprising and deeply emotional insight from this episode is that the treaty does not automatically stop overfishing. It creates a toolset, not a safety net. Without coordinated action, transparency, and pressure on distant water fleets, the ocean could continue to be emptied in plain sight, even under a new global agreement. The federal retirement inventory has reached yet another new high. The Office of Personnel Management now has over 50,000 applications still awaiting a finalized annuity. The increase comes after more than 13,000 retirement applications entered OPM's systems in December. It's taking OPM about 67 days to process a retirement case from start to finish. But OPM's numbers don't include any retirement cases still pending with agencies. Some retirees report major delays in receiving their payments, months after separating from government.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Is Target about to normalize THC drinks? The team unpacks a potentially game-changing move by the retail giant, and what it could mean for the future of cannabis beverages. Plus, why PepsiCo is calling fiber āthe next protein,ā and a look at fresh CPG innovations, including a surprisingly convenient twist on tomato paste. Show notes: 0:25: Back-To-Back. A solid start to the 4th quarter saw the S&P 500 notching a record close, shrugging off government shutdown jitters and a weak ADP jobs report. Tim Anderson attributes the resilience to market fatigue with shutdown threats and expectations of another Fed rate cut in October. Anderson believes the AI revolution is in its early innings, driving tech stocks like Apple (AAPL), Nvidia (NVDA), and Tesla (TSLA) higher, while also benefiting healthcare and utility names. Despite weakness in consumer-driven stocks, Anderson sees a strong earnings season ahead, with a focus on guidance from banks on consumer exposure and capex spending.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.
