In this episode, we speak with Alan Siu, a key figure in the Mac admin community, about the evolution of technology and open source software. Alan reflects on how devices like the iPod changed music consumption from ownership to streaming and shares his personal journey from high school English teacher to IT expert with tools like Munki. We discuss the importance of diverse resources for Mac administrators, the impact of Apple's security features on workflows, and the strong community support within the Mac admin space. The episode wraps up with a preview of the Mac DevOps YVR conference, highlighting the significance of in-person networking and idea exchange for the community.
Munki was released in 2009. The past decade-plus has seen MDM first introduced, then become almost a requirement to manage fleets of devices, changes in how we build daemons, develop tools, secure computers, and sign/compile binaries. That last piece could be a little tricky for the future of any custom software. It's fitting that Ventura Blvd isn't far from where Greg works, ‘cause in this episode we'll look at the changes in Ventura and what they mean for Munki - as well as what they could mean for the future of the Munki project. S03E12 - Félig már a miénk, ne engedjük el! by Munki & Szunyi
With over 20 years experience in the industry, Ian Dutton of Hello Munki has been both an in house graphic designer, design manager, freelancer, children's book illustrator and now has his own successful greeting card brand Hello Munki. Ian talks honestly about the juggling act running a greeting card brand, freelancing plus spinning the plates with being a hands on parent. Ian's designs have sold in Next, Mammas and Papas,M&S, Sainsbury’s, Boots, CBeebies, Early Learning, Moon pig, Card factory, Tigerprint, Asda, Morrison’s, Tesco’s and more besides! Ian's Takeaways - 1.Try a new creative process for designing characters, step away from the computer to see how your characters change! 2.Push yourself to promote yourself to studios and contacts. 3.Remember the Freelance fear and try to push past it. 4.Don’t take quiet spells personally, try another contact. 5. Join a local or online network group. 6.It doesn’t matter where you live these days for your creative career. 7. If you don't feel creative don’t force it, do something else. 8. You should always still get excited when you see your designs on products, if you don’t then maybe it’s time to change? 9.Make friends and get to know linked in!! You can find more of Ian's work at - www.hellomunki.com/productranges http://www.ianduttondesigns.com/ www.instagram.comhello_munki

This means time savings for you since you no longer have to specify a custom image every time you are creating a notification. Just add you custom image on the notifications settings page. If you do not set a custom default notification image on the settings page, the Hub icon is used. When creating custom notifications, you now have an option to upload an image. If you do not want to upload an image, you have an option to specify an image URL. If you do neither, the default notification image is used. Custom notifications with attachments can now be created. Each notification can be configured to have up to 10 attachments. New App Notification Enhancement We recognize that getting a new app notification daily can be overwhelming. As a result, we are changing the frequency of the new app notification from daily to weekly. Your employees will receive weekly new app digest notifications. Introducing Hub Assistant - A Virtual Assistant that Empowers a Better Employee Experience The Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub Assistant is a virtual assistant that can help employees complete workflows and find answers to company questions through a friendly, conversational chatbot experience. The virtual assistant is powered by IBM Watson for natural language processing and uses Workspace ONE mobile flows to integrate with third-party systems. File a support ticket in ServiceNow Check the status of a ticket in ServiceNow Answer common questions, such as What is my corporate credit card policy? Hub Assistant has an embedded Search skill to query documents, KBs and other repositories using Watson's Discovery service. You will need to upload your company's documents and resources and train Discovery on the data set to provide relevant answers to your employees' questions. Note: The Hub Assistant chatbot is available with Hub iOS 19.12 and on the web portal. Android support will follow. Favorite Apps Section is Now Its Own Tab Users mark their apps as favorite so that they can easily access them again and again. To help them have full access to their favorite apps, the Favorites section is relocated from the catalog tab to its own dedicated tab on the Intelligent Hub portal. With this update, users can go directly to the Favorite tab to access their most commonly used web and virtual apps. The toggle setting for turning Favorites on and off is in the Hub Services console Customization page. Bug Fixes Workspace ONE Assist VMware Unified Access Gateway Version 3.8 New Features Added support for SAML 2.0 third-party identity provider integration for Horizon user authentication. This feature can be configured for the Horizon SAML authentication and Active Directory password authentication or for the SAML authentication with Horizon True SSO. This feature is supported for Horizon clients and browser-based HTML Access. Third-party identity providers used can be Okta, Ping Identity, and Microsoft Azure Active Directory Added support for the Horizon protocol redirect based on JWT (JSON Web Token) claims. This feature is used with the forthcoming Horizon Universal Broker and supports an optimized architecture with Horizon protocol access to desktops and RDS hosted apps that are in a different location to the Horizon broker. Added support for setting Host Redirect Mappings. The HTTP Host Redirect capability can be used to simplify Horizon load balancing affinity requirements in certain multi VIP UAG environments. After a load balancer selects a UAG appliance, an HTTP redirect is returned so that the Horizon Client connects directly to the selected UAG appliance without further need for load balancer affinity. Host Redirect Mappings text box added to Horizon Settings in the UAG Admin UI. Added support in the UAG Admin UI and REST API to include a new field, which provides the countdown in number of days until the date of admin password expiry. Password expires in (days) is shown in the Account Settings page in the UAG Admin UI. Added support for defining allow or deny control for multiple error categories in the OPSWAT endpoint compliance checks for Horizon. Show Allowed Status Codes field added to the Endpoint Compliance Check Provider Settings page in the UAG Admin UI. Added support for OPSWAT endpoint compliance checks with Horizon Client on iOS version 5.3. This support is in addition to the existing UAG OPSWAT support for Windows and macOS clients. Added support for new customized labels for the RADIUS authentication method user prompts to enhance usability. The Horizon RADIUS authentication prompt User name and Passcode label text can be configured on UAG. Added support to display UAG SEG (Secure Email Gateway) Health and Diagnostics from the Admin UI. Health and Diagnostics screens are provided for SEG under the Edge Service Session Statistics section. When SEG is configured with the local SSL certificate, the corresponding certificate thumbprint is displayed under the SEG edge services settings. Added support for OCSP configuration through PowerShell Added support for JWT audience restriction in Horizon Edge service. The JWT audience restriction is a security feature provided by UAG to these Edge services. UAG administrators can restrict the JWT audiences accessing Horizon and backend applications. SAML Audiences settings added to Horizon and Web Reverse Proxy (with Identity Bridging enabled) Edge services settings in the UAG Admin UI. Productivity Apps & Tools VMware Workspace ONE SDK v19.12 for iOS – GA 12/11/2019 New Features The iOS SDK now supports use of the new Tunnel protocol in addition to the legacy proxy protocol. VMware Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub v19.11 for iOS – GA on 12/11/2019 New Features New Privacy Screen – For Direct MDM enrollments or Step-Up Enrollments, Intelligent Hub will now present a user-friendly data collection screen prior to redirecting to Safari to download the MDM profile. This does not replace the Privacy GDPR module available post enrollment. Instead, this screen supplements the Privacy module in an effort to be transparent with the end user. Hub Assistant – The Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub Assistant is a virtual assistant that can help employees complete workflows and find answers to company questions through a friendly, conversational chatbot experience. The virtual assistant is powered by IBM Watson for natural language processing and uses VMware Mobile Flows to integrate with third-party systems. Dropping Support for iOS 10 – Intelligent Hub’s minimum supported version is now iOS 11. For more information, refer to the KB Article which was published in mid-October 2019 informing of the upcoming change. Self-Service Support – A new Support tab is added in the Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub for iOS. Users can now monitor and manage their devices from the Support > My Devices section. They can see detailed information about their devices, add new devices, and install/uninstall profiles. Users can view the Helpful Resources section in the Support tab to find links to direct them to sites and knowledge base articles for self-service help. This feature can be enabled and customized from the Help & Support page in the Hub Services console. The Support tab name can be customized. Note: When this feature is enabled, the Account page will have an updated layout. The minimum UEM Console requirement for the Self-Service Support is UEM 1908. VMware Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub v19.12 for macOS – GA on 12/11/2019 New Features Support for Workspace ONE Assist 5.3 – This release provides official integration support for Workspace ONE Assist 5.3 for macOS for screen sharing, remote shell, or file management. Urgent (P1) Notifications – Through Hub Services, administrators can send out notifications to devices running Intelligent Hub. A notification marked as Urgent can be used to alert users of important messages that require their immediate attention. In version 19.12, these urgent notifications appear as a pop-up in the form of a card which blocks access to the app. The card will overlay on any screen within the app when user is authenticated and is dismissed only when a specific action or acknowledgement is performed. This feature is expected to be used sparingly and with the explicit understanding that the end users will be unable to interact with other Hub features until they action the urgent notification. Mobile Flows Notifications – This version adds the ability for an end user to review and modify their preferences for their Mobile Flows Notifications (i.e. Coupa, Concur, Workday, etc.). End users will have the ability to toggle on and off the notifications for individual connectors configured by their company’s administrator. These settings can be found in Preferences (⌘ + ,) > Notifications. If re-authentication is required, a web view will drop down for the end user to enter their credentials for the associated Mobile Flows connector service. Note changing these settings will apply to all devices the user is signed in to Intelligent Hub. Introduction of Hub Preferences window – This release brings a new Preferences window for Intelligent Hub. It can be accessed via the macOS Menu Bar > Intelligent Hub > Preferences or with easy keyboard shortcut command-comma (⌘,). These preferences will grow over time, but for this release it will include the ability to toggle on or off the Hub menu bar icon and includes controls to manage system push notifications or Mobile Flows Notifications. Support for munki 4.0 RC1 and Python 3 – Due to Python 2.7’s upcoming EOL on January 1st, 2020, the embedded version of munki has been upgraded to munki 4.0 Release Candidate 1, which removes the dependency on Apple’s shipped Python, and includes its own copy of Python 3.7.4. Munki will be upgraded to the final 4.0 release in a minor Hub release in January. S01E36 - Merci Zizou! by Munki & Szunyi
By the time William and Jim Reid of the Jesus And Mary Chain put out the 1998 album Munki, the band had been through several iterations. From the noise drenched simplicity of Psychocandy to the pulsing beats of Automatic and the lazy strums of Stoned and Dethroned, the brothers had covered plenty of musical territory while still maintaining the attitude and sound unique to the band. In what would be their last release together until 2017's Damage And Joy, they manage to revisit nearly every phase of the band, and even explore some new ideas. But at seventeen songs and seventy minutes, the sheer length of the album, especially with some ill-advised forays into overlong noodling and keyboard driven tracks, left us wondering if the lack of an outside voice (i.e. a producer with a surname other than Reid) would have shaped a more concise, cohesive and ultimately satisfying listen. I come to bury Server, not to praise him. The evil that people do lives after them; The good is oft interrèd with their bones. So let it be with Server. The noble Mac Admin Hath told you Server was ambitious. If it were so, it was a grievous fault, And grievously hath Server answered it. Here, under leave of Server and the rest— For the Mac Admin is an honorable person; So are they all, all honorable people— Come I to speak in Server’s funeral. Server was my friend, faithful and just to me. I speak not to disprove what some Mac Admin spoke, But here I am to speak what I do know. You all did love them once, not without cause: What cause withholds you then, to mourn for them? Episode 3 - Chunda Munki
Sarah Hunter And Lisa Thomlins talk about the unique live stream known as Munki Mash about to happen this weekend, which will feature many of Welly's best musicians who will perform for the last time in the iconic Munki Studios.
We formally introduce ourself in this episode. We (technically) did this in "Episode Point-One" when we took part in the Talking Mac Enterprise Podcast. Also, Ed Marczak previewed MacTech 2011.Show NotesMacTech 2011, Nov. 2-4 2011, Los Angeles, CAOne More Thing. . . . In our next episode, we will have a roundtable discussion on Mac security. If you would like to contribute to our discussion, contact us at one of the links below:macenterprisepodcast@gmail.comTwitterFaceBook
This episode was originally recorded and produced as a "Proof of Concept". That's why we called it "Episode .1", or to ad a British twist, "Episode Half-One", or would that be "Half-Twelve"?At any rate, in this episode, Jonathan Calloway interviewed Rusty Myers about Deploy Studio; we had a roundtable discussion with the Talking Mac Enterprise audience about the demise of the XServe and what it means to the Mac enterprise community. Finally, Jonathan Calloway interviewed Jodi Rodgers from Adobe about AAMEE, and other deployment and update tools.By the way, Thanks to Ed Marczak for the killer intro music and 'tweens'! Show Notes:Deploy Studio in 20 Minutes - Since this episode was orignally going to be produced in video rather than audio, Rus came prepared with a Keynote presentation.DeployStudio in 20 Minutes - Originally intended for video production!DeployStudio GuideSlides from Rusty's presentation at MacWorld 2011Contact RustyCreative Suite Enterprise Deployment Site (AAMEE download and documentation pageAdobe Out of Box Experience (OOBE) Blog:AAMEE walk-through on Adobe TV:And just for fun. . .Low End Mac: Macintosh Serial Throughput
In this episode, we thought we'd keep things simple and close to home. Jonathan Calloway interviewed Greg Neagle about Munki, there was a roundtable discussion with Jonathan Calloway, Gerry Normandinn, and Jon Thompson about Mac OS X 10.7 Lion (we did our best to not violate any NDAs!). Keeping with our theme, Gerry Normandin interviewed Ed Marczak about Simian, Google's tool for extending Munki.Show NotesThe main Munki page Munki Developer Google GroupThe Main Simian Page
