Have questions about demons and forces of evil? Have questions about the occult and new age spirituality? Jeff sits down with Jon Thompson, seminary professor who teaches on warfare, for a conversation about evil, demonology, satan, and how the forces of evil can be at work in your daily life, and most importantly how to live in freedom. Jon Thompson is the Senior Pastor of Sanctus Church — a multi-site church in the Greater Toronto Area and online — where he has served for 27 years. He holds a Master of Theological studies from Tyndale Seminary and a Doctorate of Missiology from Fuller Theological Seminary. Passionate about engaging seekers, skeptics, and believers about the Christian faith, Jon has authored three best-selling books: Convergence, Deliverance, and Perseverance.
This sermon was originally called “Closing doors to demons” and was delivered on November 17, 2024 at Westminster in Barrie. But Pastor Ruttan has changed the title to this: “Is this the sermon demons don't want you to hear?” He explains why in a short introduction at the start of the message. Some strange things happened on and around it’s delivery. Okay, to the sermon itself. Jon Thompson says: “The demonic hates anything that reminds them of hope.” If you belong to Jesus, that’s you. But be at peace and do not be afraid. This sermon unpacks one of the most intriguing (and confusing) parts of the Bible: Mark 5:1-20. It’s when Jesus casts out a legion of demons from a man. They go into a herd of pigs who quickly drown. People are both afraid and amazed. The sermon presents some big picture ideas about spiritual warfare, takes us through the text, warns against major “doorways” which give the demonic permission to function in our lives, and encourages practices to help us live freely and victoriously in Christ. There is a companion podcast to this sermon which Pastor Ruttan references. It is an interview he has with Steve Dabbs, author of “When Demons Surface.” You can access that here, or by searching on our podcast, The Word at Westminster. In Romans 16:19-21 Paul said: “I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.” It was a good word then, and it’s a wise word now. Let’s open our eyes, and be not afraid. Is this the sermon demons don’t want you to hear?

In this episode of the Craft & Character podcast, Steve Carter interviews Pastor Jon Thompson from Sanctus Church in Toronto, Canada about the importance of perseverance in pastoral ministry. Jon is one of Canada's most thoughtful and insightful shepherds and he shares about a book he wrote that unpacks 15 different observations at the halfway point about how to finish well. Bobby Clinton, the legendary Fuller Professor once said only 30% of leaders finish well. How do you become one of the 30%? Reading and mediating on Pastor Thompson's observations are definitely a gift for those starting out in ministry, at the midway point, or closing in on the finish line. Those of us deeply entrenched in the world of peer-to-peer fundraising have long recognized that one of the greatest strengths of our events and campaigns lies within the sense of community and shared experiences we create for our supporters. However, in an increasingly data-driven environment, quantifying the return on investment (ROI) for cultivating these relationships and creating impactful mission moments can be challenging. By examining the impact of P2P participation on a donor's lifetime value, we can begin to truly understand the long-term significance of our efforts and therefore make the case for even greater investment. By speaking a common language, we can break down the silos between peer-to-peer and individual giving teams and open our organizations up to even greater opportunity. In the episode, P2PPF's Marcie Maxwell sits down with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Kevin McMahon & Jon Thompson. This dynamic team will dig into how looking at peer-to-peer fundraisers through the lens of lifetime value has shifted their overall philosophy and strategies behind their signature P2P events. In this episode, we'll also explore:How this fresh approach to data has changed their staffing, goals and budgetsThe tangible & intangible value of communityThe importance of humility in cross-functional partnershipsMentioned LinksChildren's Hospital of PhiladelphiaStay Connected on LinkedInConnect with KevinConnect with JonConnect with MarcieConnect with the Peer-to-Peer Professional Forum (00:00) - Welcome to The P2P Soap Box (01:50) - Introducing Kevin McMahon and Jon Thompson (06:02) - P2P at CHOP (08:17) - Lifetime Value (17:01) - The State of the Industry (30:23) - The Future (34:49) - Getting Started with Lifetime Value (40:01) - Learn more and get involved!

A former chief of the Thunder Bay Police Service facing serious charges by the Ontario Provincial Police confirmed the long suspected systemic racism within the police force. This is not the first time that there has been a call for a more competent police in northern Ontario and First Nation leaders are now sending their decisive call to disband the Thunder Bay police. For insight, we welcome:Alvin Fiddler, Grand Chief of Nishnawbe Aski Nation;Melanie Beardy and Vincent Ostberg, the parents of Jenna Ostberg who died under tragic circumstances;Julian Falconer, founding partner of Falconer's LLP and the lawyer representing Jenna's parents ; and Jon Thompson, a journalist based in Thunder Bay.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

By harnessing the power of data analytics, PE firms can uncover valuable insights, identify investment opportunities, and optimize portfolio performance. Successful data utilization in PE involves leveraging various data sources, employing advanced analytics techniques, and fostering a data-driven culture. Rapid growth and the birth of AI have heightened the importance of in-depth data and analytics. To compete, PE firms need high-quality technology solutions to sharpen their insight and streamline their workflows across the entire fund lifecycle. However, data is only as valuable as it is understandable and accessible. According to Jon, without an effective way to manage information, your data can very quickly become “noise.” And in some cases, noise is worse than not having the data at all. The Institute for Government was delighted to welcome Sir Jon Thompson, Chief Executive of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) and former permanent secretary at the Ministry of Defence and HMRC. Sir Jon has led the FRC – which oversees audit and corporate governance reform of the UK's largest companies – through a period of major transformation, and last year the FRC issued record fines, including for misconduct at KPMG following its audits of Regenersis and Carillion. Ahead of standing down from leading the FRC, Sir Jon reflected on his experience of being a regulator and the role that the audit watchdog plays. How far should regulation prevent corporate failures? What is the future of audit reform? And how can regulation keep pace with technological and social change? To discuss these questions and look ahead to some of the key challenges facing regulators in the UK, Sir Jon was in conversation with Dr Matthew Gill, Programme Director at the Institute for Government. Sir Jon Thompson has been CEO of the FRC since 2019. He was appointed chair of High Speed Two in February 2023, and will leave the FRC later this year.

Bro. Jon Thompson, Sunday Morning
Let's talk Web3, the Metaverse, NFT's, digital assets and crypto with Jon Thompson, aka Boss Dawg. He's a marketing and social media professional experienced in building relationships, engaging social communities and working with a diverse portfolio of brands to tell their story in a creative and innovative way. He's worked at places like Ogilvy, Kroger, Mars and Snapchat but now runs his own agency called TEN35.His NFT project has signed 6 athletes to NIL deals including one with Destanni Henderson, NCAA champion (USC), Indiana Fever point guard. Jon has always had a passion for sports and staying ahead of the curve in marketing. That has led him into the digital asset space as an employee but now has him entering the world of entrepreneurialism. This all started with a side hustle flipping NFT's for a tremendous profit. He is now taking some of his earning and putting that into his own project, Mad Dawgs Athletic Club.MDAC is a community starting with 5,250 Mad Dawgs across the worlds of sports, music, tech, and more, all sharing their “work hard play hard” attitude to become the best in their respective fields. His project invites you to join his team along with some of your favorite up and coming athletes to game, hang and enjoy from your favorite stadium, to your favorite couch, in real life and across the metaverse through a multitude of sports. The launch of our 5,250 Mad Dawgs NFT collection consists of five breed variants and a limited set of 1/1 (one of one) NFTs depicting the likeness of our inaugural Mad Dawg student athletes and an ultra rare Shiba Inu. Mad Dawgs stand-out, full of swagger and style. They wear their hustle proudly, sporting fitness and streetwear and rock fly statement pieces. Mad Dawgs are legit performers. The breeds chosen are notorious in pop-culture or have become sports and entertainment icons. Maker Dawg familiarized with the Doberman, Schnauzer, Pit Bull, Bulldog and Husky and fused their characteristics with a comic style. Specific vintage collegiate colors are juxtaposed with recently hyped up hues pulled from fashion, illustration, and technology trends. This was an entertaining and informative episode covering many aspects of the space.Support the show (https://paypal.me/sidehustlecity)
