Interview by Kris PetersAussie rockers The Wrath recently released their third studio album, Into The Arms Of Oblivion, in the process affirming their position as one of this country's finest musical offerings. With over twenty years spent honing their craft, The Wrath have a self-imposed motto of tapping into differing sides of their musical psyche with each release, combining a plethora of musical riches together to dish out a sonic palate that traverses the spectrums of rock, punk, metal, industrial and gothic metal. The Wrath are not a band who are designed to be packaged neatly into one genre-specific box, nor are they a band that throws everything against the wall and hope something sticks. They are a band who love playing and creating music, with a strike rate of three albums in 22 years showcasing the band's insistence on getting things right.HEAVY spoke with frontman Tommy Creeper to find out more."With all the previous albums, if you have listened to all our stuff, they're all very different," he measured. "So when I want to write a new album, I really put effort into doing something different. For this one, we wanted to keep it simple and challenge ourselves to write it around melody; write it around being catchy and keeping it simple.""Simple is probably not the right word," Creeper corrected himself. "It's still pretty hard to write something that's, maybe technically, not so crazy, but still have all the parts and still have it sound like us. So that's where we leaned into in this one. The backup, the melodies and keeping it catchy and simple. That was the aim."In the full interview, Tommy emphasized that the singles released showcase only a portion of the album's variety and mentioned their unique performance experiences, such as a Halloween residency at Movie World, which allowed for creative freedom. He elaborated on the band's evolution, noting a shift from an emphasis on riffs to a focus on songwriting and melody, reflecting their growth as musicians and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Asia-Pacific markets are rallying this morning - but Singapore just saw its biggest one-day drop since 2008. The Straits Times Index plunged 7.5%, with marine and property stocks leading the fall. Is it time to rotate to safe havens or start bargain hunting? China and Vietnam in the crossfire of trade tensions – Vietnam is offering to slash import duties on US goods to zero in a bid to avoid steep 46% tariffs, while the US appears more keen to strike a deal with Japan. What do investors need to know here? China may let the yuan weaken and is reportedly prepping stimulus to soften tariff pain, meanwhile copper’s 15% plunge signals economic slowdown fears, but bargain buyers are emerging - particularly from Asia. Michelle Martin and Ryan Huang unpack what triggered the rout, and whether a rebound is in sight. They also assess safe haven plays, currency moves, and discuss Seatrium, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust, DBS, Bank of China, Salesforce, Samsung, Levi Strauss, Sino Group, Sino Land, The Hour Glass. Interview by Kris PetersBurton C Bell is a name synonymous with metal.Fresh off his induction into the prestigious Metal Hall of Fame, Burton continues to solidify his legacy as a trailblazer of industrial metal. Renowned for his groundbreaking role in Fear Factory, the extreme music pioneer, multimedia talent, and iconoclastic provocateur resurrects his legacy and forward-thinking destiny, remade in a career-spanning incarnation as a singular solo artist. Bell's discography includes multiple live and recorded collaborations with Black Sabbath icon Geezer Butler and Journey's Deen Castronovo (as GZR); industrial maverick Al Jourgensen and Ministry; and guest vocal appearances with Pitchshifter, Conflict, Soil, Static-X, Soulfly, and Delain, among others. He's the vocalist of Ascension Of The Watchers and City Of Fire and, of course, the co-creator of Fear Factory and the only musician to appear on every Fear Factory release from 1992 through 2024.And now Bell has set his sights on Australia for his solo project, which has already spawned two singles in Anti - Droid and Technical Exorcism, with two more promised before June. His Australian shows promise to be an unmissable experience, featuring heavy, groovy, dark, and moody tracks, alongside rare live renditions of deep cuts from his vast discography, but to find out just what to expect, HEAVY spent some time with Bell to get down and dirty."I had a great response," he smiled when we asked about how his first two solo singles were received. "Live, the fans love them. They translate well. The band that I have gathered - or should I say curated, because it took me a couple of years to grab these guys together. I've known them for a few years, but finally I got this band together and the music that we play is really translating… a new groove that is translating in songs in a heavy, groovy, dark and moody way. It's amazing. What you hear is going to be heavier live."In the full interview, Burton talks more about what to expect from the shows, what has changed with him and his music since his last visit in 2021, how the shows will be intimate, what songs he will be drawing from in the set list, future music and if the singles released are an indication of what the album will sound like, how he keeps music fresh and exciting for himself, the songwriting process and if it becomes easier or harder over time, being inducted into the Metal Hall Of Fame and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Interview by Kris PetersThey've been called Deathrock, Gothcore, and, from one creative soul, “kinda goth punk glam Manson-y metal?” They've also been called “a best kept secret”. Although that really began to change since the debut LP was released… Which begs the question: Who the fuck are these guys, then?Well. Department of Gloom is made up of four, Sydney, Australia based musicians, including ex-members of Florida-based industrial fetish freaks Genitorturers, Sydney heavy industrialists Jerk, and ‘90s glam metal punks Candy Harlots. And the sound is a potent mix of all these things. On the live front, Department of Gloom have opened for everybody from Skid Row to Wednesday 13, while also sharing stages with local heavyweights Witchgrinder and Our Last Enemy, and doing their own shows around Australia, picking up quite a following of devotees in the process. They recently released their eponymously titled 10 track debut on vinyl, LTD edition CD and across streaming services. The CD run sold out quickly, while the LP is in its second pressing. The album was accompanied by two videos, I Dare You and Psycho.January 24 saw the band's most ambitious and exciting video being released for the track Kill Someone, which also points to the direction Department of Gloom's sound and style is developing. The video will be launched with a show at Sydney's The Duke Hotel, Friday February 7. Of course with everyone being brought up on a diet of early KISS and Alice Cooper, 70's British glam rock, the gothic punk sounds of The Damned, Cure, and Christian Death, along with a background of industrial metal and so much more, Department Of Gloom are what you end up with when that beautiful mess comes at you in stereo. They may not sound exactly like any of those influences…but there's a little bit of all of that in there. And…most importantly. Department Of Gloom are having a whole lot of hellish fun doing what they do. So, Indulge. Enjoy. Never repent…HEAVY caught up with Leeno Dee to find out more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Roestig. At the end of the day, music and the creative arts is all about expression and having fun. In the modern age of entertainment that sense of enjoyment has slowly eroded due to the complexities of the current global climate and the incessant wish to not offend anybody which has resulted in a terser, more rigid sprinkling of bands and musicians that seem void of life because of their over-complicated approach. And what better way to enjoy your craft and have fun than play around with someone else's music? Which is exactly what …And We All Die did with their recent four-track release Static Age.Essentially just two Misfits songs reimagined - Static Age and TV Casualty - the EP sees both songs performed in vastly different fashions, with neither bearing much more in common with the original than by virtue of the song title. Not that the two classic songs have been bastardised beyond recognition - some bands you just don't mess with - but both versions have been afforded the respect they deserve while maintaining just enough of …And We All Die's musical DNA to make the songs their own while still paying homage to the original recordings. The release is a heavy blend of hardcore, post-punk, noise-rock and industrial influences, centred around covers of the two Misfits' tracks alongside two industrial-infused reworkings of the songs featuring Metal Blade synthwave artist Gost.HEAVY recently caught up with the man behind the music, Raymond Estes, to find out more, starting with how the EP has been received."It's been great," he enthused. "So far it's been the best reception we've had for any release. It's hard to say why that is, maybe Spotify is actually working for us this time (laughs), but we can't really complain. Really, the project is me, but it's everybody who contributes and the drummer Walter and guitarist Guillermo are excited about the volume of people that are checking out the tracks and the amount of streams we've been getting. Who knew?"We press Estes on the choice of songs to cover, specifically why choose the Misfits as a band to start with, and also why those particular two songs."I love the Misfits," he shrugged, "and have for a long time. I like horror punk and all that Danzig has done, but for …And We All Die we don't really do horror songs. We do more conceptual songs or songs about the human condition and as a hardcore guy I thought what would be more interesting to do than take songs that are dark and have these more science fiction themes based on the perils of technology and make those fresh. That is more exciting to me than singing about ghouls or zombies."In the full interview, Estes explained the thought process behind covering the same song twice, with the second version being more industrial and featuring contributions from Ghost and William Faith. He mentioned that the band was conscious of not going too far with their covers, as they were aware of the special meaning these songs hold for many people. The early reception of the EP has been positive, with the industrial versions receiving the better response. We talked about deconstructing the songs and then recreating them in their image and any difficulties they faced. The conversation turned to future new music, with a rock album, collection of covers from The Cure, other projects and more. Estes discussed why …And We All Die is currently a studio project only and how he plans to potentially expand that into a touring outfit down the track plus a host of other things.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

"It's all heavily distorted synth of various different kinds with industrial percussion and drumbeats. Lyrically, it's another song about how fucked in the head I am, basically (laughs). In the full interview, Kieren runs us through Ratchet in greater detail, talks about the creepy but awesome music video, how Ratchet differs to the previous two singles, how they represent No Life Left musically, the term Industrial Synth Crust and what it translates to, upcoming shows and more.

With the release of Black Magnet's debut album ‘Hallucination Scene' in 2020 a new Industrial Metal power emerged from the unlikely landscape of Oklahoma City. After anxiously waiting out the pandemic Black Magnet returned to the road in late 2021 and has now dropped ‘Body Prophecy' the second full-length burst of machine-driven mayhem and electronic deviance. On ‘Body Prophecy' mastermind, James Hammontree welds the frenetic vitality of post-punk and metal energy with driving synthetic club beats, factory force physicality, and alluringly stark melodic pulses. Tracks like ‘Floating in Nothing' and ‘Violent Mechanix' feature both intensely catchy hooks and hammering brutal noise. ‘Sold Me Sad' is a quietly deranged lullaby that takes an atmospheric turn. The throbbing drug-addled lurch of the Manson / Reznor-esque ‘Incubate' is, at the end of the album, treated to a completely re-imagined and extended club-style remix by scene legend Justin K. Broadrick (Godflesh, Zonal, etc). For all its harsher, scraping atmospheres and pummeling aggression ‘Body Prophecy' always remains an eminently tight, memorable album molded for the stage and constructed to keep bodies in motion and listeners transfixed. Topics Discussed In This Episode: How The Kybalion impacted James's life/creative practice Hermeticism and the 7 Hermetic principles Folklore behind “Ring Around The Rosie” Draxler's visual contribution to Black Magnet's newest album “Body Prophecy” Recording “Body Prophecy” during the early stages of the pandemic James working with Justin K Broadrick Suffering through challenging material to grow one's creative perspective Looking past genres to develop a deeper relationship with artworks Tapping into your highest vibration, frequency, and energy Creating art with absolute honesty Embracing the paradox Transforming negative outlooks into positive perspectives “The Pregnant Void” in Taoism Artists / People Mentioned: Salvador Dalí (Surrealist Painter) Francis Bacon (Painter) Max Ernst (Surrealist Painter) Mitch Horowitz (Author / Occult Historian) Jay Cheel (Director) Andrei Tarkovsky (Director) Alejandro Jodorosky (Director) David Lynch (Director) Alan Watts (Writer) Bands / Musicians Mentioned: Justin K. Hell Bent For Metal takes a look at Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the US sitcom based in the 99th precinct of the New York Police Department, to analyse how the show handles queer representation and LGBTQ+ issues, and also discusses how being a metal fan can affect the way someone could view it – including how metal is represented in the show itself. Plus there's an origin story for one of HBFM's [stolen] running gags. This week's Camp Classic is 'And Then There Was Silence', the epic song about the fall of Troy by legendary German power metallers Blind Guardian. And while there's the entirely predictable chat about how the song's camp as tits (which you already guessed), there's some rather more deep-and-meaningful reasons it's relatable to from a queer perspective.Plus the Hate Crew Gaybar has no less than five albums for the jukebox this week, as They Fear Us by Ithaca, Body Prophecy by Black Magnet, Roman Candle by Funeral Chic, God's Country by Chat Pile, and Born Into Chaos by Yatra all going in. It's a bumper crop, but a more streamlined way of discussing them to go with it.All in all, it's a far more cheerful show than #86.

Los Angeles industrial metal/heavy rock outfit CONTRACULT COLLECTIVE have shared a cover version of hardcore punk pioneers BAD BRAINS' 1986 single “Sacred Love” with a music video featuring performance and behind-the-scenes footage from their recent (10/7) performance at Aftershock Festival inSacramento, CA. Check it out streaming below or on YouTube HERE. The single is also available for streaming now across all digital platforms at this link: http://smarturl.it/sacredloveccc. "If you're going to do a cover, make it your own,” says vocalist SVART. “Bad Brains have been one of the most influential bands in my life, so it seemed only fitting that we'd try an Industrial Metal rendition of ‘Sacred Love.'” CONTRACULT COLLECTIVE was formed by Svart and guitarist Cultprit and includes BX on synth/backup vocals. The band were originally signed to Roadrunner Records and released two EP's in 2020, A Cult of Opposition and Follow. The band recently shared a new original single “Plunge” with a NSFW horror- themed music video in September and are currently recording their debut full-length record set for release in 2022. The industrial outfit will bring their “pummeling beats, frantic guitars, and snarling vocals that make you want to get up and break something” (Genre Is Dead) to the stage at Welcome To Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, FL on Thursday, November 11 alongside headliners Slipknot, Gojira and Cypress Hill.
