Dallas Jenkins has created a different kind of series about Jesus. And, Jenkins said, he's “obsessed” with making the experience authentic and intimate for viewers. I spoke to Dallas at the National Religious Broadcasters convention in Texas. We had a great conversation but the audio was noisy, being on the conference floor. Still, his message is important and worth listening. And, when he talked about JOY he was really speaking my language! Key takeaways: Dallas made "The Chosen" after coming off a failed movie project He openly talks about sin He intentionally made the series cast diverse, especially in the portrayal of women. He said there is a difference between joy and happiness. "Joy is eternal." He tries to keep the show Biblically accurate while creating an interesting story. “I don't want people to glorify the show to the point where they think this is a replacement for the Bible,” Jenkins said. “I'm saying from the beginning, that the show is not God's word. Jonathan (Roumie), who plays Jesus is not Jesus. I'm not the creator of the universe. I'm a broken, flawed man … who's trying to do my best to capture the character and intentions of Jesus in the Gospels." 25 June 2018 | Electric Power SMASHES Pikes Peak Record, Tesla Model 3’s Being Stockpiled and I-PACE Designer Talks About EVs

EV News Daily - Electric Car Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 24, 2018 11:27

Well good morning, good afternoon and good evening, wherever you are in the world, hello and welcome to the Monday 25th June edition of EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport.   VOLKSWAGEN I.D. R SETS NEW OVERALL PIKES PEAK RECORD CNET: "Today the electric Volkswagen I.D. R racer beat set a new overall Pikes Peak International Hill Climb record, racing up to 14,115 feet in a stunningly quick 7:57.148. The previous overall record of 8:13.878 was set in 2013. For its re-entry into Pikes Peak, Volkswagen built a prototype EV with 680 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. A 43-kWh battery feeds juice to the all-wheel drive monster, with an electric motor on each axle that can propel it to 62 mph in 2.25 seconds. Total weight on this bad boy is less than 2,425 pounds, including driver Romain Dumas." One of the benefits of EV power is they don't lose power at altitude like a combustion engine does. “I had some fog and it was quite humid with some damp in the second section,” Dumas said from the 14,115ft summit of Pikes Peak. “I’m happy with this, but we could have gone quicker if that middle sector had been dry.”   VW COULD DOUBLE EV RANGE WITH SOLID STATE com "VW has just announced a joint venture with California-based technology company QuantumScape Corporation to develop new solid-state battery technology for use in future EV models." They'll be investing $100m in SolidScape which was founded 8 years ago and have racked up 200 patents and applications for solid state tech. Axel Heinrich, Head of VW Group Research, said “We want to accelerate the commercialization of QuantumScape’s solid-state batteries. And we combine forces to leverage Volkswagen’s experience as a production specialist and QuantumScape technology leadership. Volkswagen is thus taking another step toward a sustainable, zero emission mobility for our customers in the future.”   TESLA WILL CHARGE FOR 'PREMIUM' INTERNET ON NEW CARS STARTING JULY 1ST Engadget: "Electrek has obtained a sales team email indicating that Tesla is launching a paid Premium Connectivity package for cars ordered on or after July 1st. There will still be no-extra-charge (Standard Connectivity) cell access, according to the email -- you'll just have to pay to get features that current owners take for granted. You'll still get navigation (with traffic-based routing) over cellular as well as live Supercharger usage info and safety-related car updates. Anything that's essential to the experience and doesn't consume too much data will remain free." Read Engadget or Electrek for more. For those who can afford Tesla, the rumours $100/year is not a big deal. The issue is scale.   I-PACE DESIGNER IN BRITISH GQ MAGAZINE Jaguar’s director of design, Ian Callum, explains why the power of innovation is now a matter of millimetres Ian Callum in British GQ this month: "Now we’re getting into the era of electric cars. Some designers want to maintain the traditional profile because that’s what people are familiar with, but I believe there’s a real opportunity here to create something that’s totally different. We haven’t seen enough electric cars yet to know whether the form will change that much. In many ways, what’s underneath [the batteries and ancillaries] is more predetermined than ever, but less so in terms of what’s on top. With the I-Pace, I was determined to throw the visual elements forward rather than leaning it back, so it looks more like a mid-engined car. It certainly spells out that it’s a different kind of car, and not in a contrived way. Packaging the electrical powertrain gives you freedom, but it means the whole car needs to be lifted up. Which goes against the essence of what a Jaguar is." "That’s why the I-Pace was a “crossover”, so we could deal with that. Does the saloon car in its current form have a future, for physical and social reasons? It’s a big question. We believe it does. It’s better for aerodynamics and we’ll find a way of maintaining that form without having to lift the car up in the air. We’re under pressure to make everything taller, to accommodate the batteries under the floor."   STOCKPILING MODEL 3'S Why would Tesla stockpile so many thousands of cars? I'll let Wade from InSideEV's explain: "Will the 200,000th Tesla be delivered in June or July? People are divided on what they expect to happen. But I think it is almost universal that everyone wants Tesla to delay until the 3rd quarter. If they do so, the full $7500 tax credit will be available until the end of December. If the 200,000 limit is hit in June, the full credit will only be available through September." We'll find out Q2 numbers in just over a week.   E-CARS’ STUNT SHOW AMAZES SPECTATORS AT FAMOUS CHINESE LAKE "A stunt show of electric vehicles (EVs), as part of the six-day China EV Rally 2018, Qinghai Lake, in northwest China's Qinghai Province, thrilled the audience around China’s largest lake on Sunday. The rally features only electric cars, and is also the world's highest-altitude "E-car competition. Themed on green and low-carbon traveling, it also showcases abundant new energy resources, as well as the beautiful natural landscapes and ecological environment of Qinghai. With this year’s theme entitled “EV-Led New Era,” about 50 cars took part in the event. Celebrities and sports champions lent their support on site" saTS cgtb: "Participants are required to demonstrate the performance limits of their EVs via various stunts, including suspension – moving with two wheels on the ground, flexibility – forward-reverse serpentine and so forth."   NEW WORDS ENTERING THE OXFORD ENGLISH DICTIONARY The Oxford English Dictionary is the ultimate catalog of the English language, containing detailed information about the history, pronunciation and meaning of more than 855,000 words. Last week, the editors of the multivolume dictionary announced some new words that will be included in the latest edition" according to NewsOK.com: "Zero emission" and "zero carbon," which relate to pollutants."   You can listen to all previous 160 episodes of this podcast on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, YouTube, TuneIn, Stitcher, and the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. The iPad Media Activity and Project Matrix (www.ipadmediacamp.com/matrix) is used in iPad Media Camp workshops to help teachers learn to integrate effective use of iPads into the curriculum. The matrix includes whole-class response activities (interactive digital writing), single-app projects (using a learning journal like SeeSaw), 2 app projects (create + share) and Multi-app projects (app-smash projects)." The matrix is available as a series of linked Google Draw documents on http://www.ipadmediacamp.com/matrix. Check the podcast shownotes for additional referenced links and resources from these presentations. Many thanks to Anne Beck and her organizer team for making the first iPadPaloozaOU a smashing success!

See this in HD video on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDVGT75HYT5ZOqUoQI-4NRA Monsanto is developing a new GMO seed...wheat.  For many years, farmers and consumers said no to GMO wheat since the crop is usually directly consumed by humans. That said, NewsOK.com reports that Monsanto is reviving its GM wheat program as farmers are now more amenable to using the genetically modified seed.  The new GM wheat seed will be resistant to three different herbicides:  dicamba, glyphosate, and glufosinate.  Why three herbicides?  With the widespread use of Roundup (aka glyphosate), super-weeds immune to the popular chemical are taking over farm fields.
