Welcome to a special bonus episode of The Russell Moore Show! Peter Wehner returns for a conversation about the television drama The Chosen, which began its fourth season on February 1, 2024. Wehner expounds on his recent article in The Atlantic, sharing how the series pleasantly surprised him as someone who historically avoided on-screen depictions of Jesus. He describes the ways that Jesus (played by Jonathan Roumie) in The Chosen has a fully-formed personality, displays emotion, and shows how intimately Jesus understood human nature—all elements that have led Wehner to love the show. Moore and Wehner discuss how The Chosen sheds light on Jewish life under Roman occupation and the role of the Pharisees. They talk about another Christian media phenomenon—the He Gets Us campaign—and consider the wide range of responses to it. Their discussion covers political division, the relationship between the intellect and the heart in belief, and what it means for Christians to be called to faithfulness rather than success. Did you know that you are chosen by God? He knows the number of hairs on your head. He is your Father in Heaven. And He is moving in the world in a BIG way with the hugely popular tv series, The Chosen. The first tv series about the life of Jesus and His disciples. Today on Strong By Design, hosts Jared Haley and Chris Wilson talk about their favorite moments and characters on the hit show. God loves you so much that He gave His One and only Son to you as a gift of salvation. And if you believe in Him, you will never perish but have everlasting life. That's from John 3:16 That's right, in Jesus you have eternal life. Jesus answered, “I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 If there's one thing in this episode on SBD we would like for you to remember, it's that Jesus chose you. He died for you. He is always there, waiting for you to seek Him and be in relationship with Him. He loves you deeply and He will never leave you. “I want people to understand, especially as new believers, that our goal is not to see how close we can get to the line without crossing. Our goal is to run from the line, and so our boundary can't be like inches from the line; we want to be miles and miles away.” – Jared Haley Time Stamps 01:04 – Welcome to the ‘Strong by Design' podcast 1:55 - Hosts Chris Wilson & Jared Haley on why you should watch 'The Chosen' 11:54 - Discover the scripture that Jared missed despite knowing the BIBLE for years 15:57 - Religion vs Relationship: The internal struggle of Nicodemus 21:49 - Who is Little James? 24:55 - Jared & Chris recount how Jesus appointed His disciples to spread the words of Jesus 27:13 - Why Mary Magdalene is called Lilith in 'The Chosen'? 30:13 - The importance of setting boundaries to keep you from moral failure 38:00 - Jared & Chris recounts the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman 43:04 - The ULTIMATE fall for People: Sex, Money, and Power 46:49 - Matthew in 'The Chosen': Why his disability matters 50:37 - Chris recounts how Jonathan Roumie portrays 'Jesus' in 'The Chosen' perfectly 53:52 - How did Jesus interact with children? 1:03:40 - Where you can go to watch the Christian series, 'The Chosen' Resources: Angel.com Connect w/ Jared & Chris: Jared's Instagram Chris's Instagram Connect w/ CriticalBench: Youtube Facebook Instagram CriticalBench.com StrongByDesignPodcast.com

Today we're talking about the continuing controversy surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers and their involvement with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group of drag queens who explicitly belittle and mock Christianity. Since the Dodgers re-invited the group to participate in their Pride event, several pro players have spoken out against the politicization of the MLB by having Pride events and involving themselves with groups like the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and unsurprisingly, they're getting trashed by the Left and mainstream media. However, some of these players are holding more firmly to their faith than others, while some have disappointingly responded with caveats or apologized altogether. Then, we talk about the terrible story of two elderly pro-life volunteers who were violently attacked while praying outside an abortion clinic. Then, we briefly discuss a new study that seems to confirm what we all already knew: that left-wing ideology attracts literal narcissists and psychopaths. --- Timecodes: (01:23) Intro / June update (09:06) Followup on 'The Chosen' (16:08) MLB players respond to Dodgers "pride" drama (42:08) Pro-lifer attacked for praying (50:30) Left-wing extremism study --- Today's Sponsors: EdenPURE — when you buy one Thunderstorm you get one FREE, this week only! It's a two-fer on the show today! Stay tuned to hear Amanda Jenkins talk about her life and the hit TV show about Jesus, "The Chosen," which has just wrapped up season 3. And then listen to the Rev. Leah Schade speak about Sam Smith's provocative performance on the Grammys, and how entertainment uses the imagery of evil to sell. Amanda Jenkins is the wife of Dallas Jenkins, creator of the Chosen. But Amanda is an important part of the show in her own right. She talks about her contributions, and her important faith walk that helped her and Dallas say YES to this amazing gift from God, The Chosen. The Rev. Leah Schade and I post an occasional series on entertainment and faith. We've talked about evil onscreen in the past. But the 2023 Grammy put the devil on full display on broadcast TV. Is this the latest Lil Nas X? "The Chosen": Watch the TV show about the life of Jesus "UnHoly": (watch a clip of the Grammy performance for yourself)
A lot of people are very angry that the Jesus character in the chosen seems very 'Mormon'. We fully endorse this accusation, because the closer you get to Him, the closer you get to the restored Gospel, so why dog in it! lol. Besides, Dallas Jenkins is a really nice guy trying to do a really great thing... chill out. With a nationwide release on the horizon, The Chosen premiered its third season on Tuesday, November 15 with a special event to benefit The Salvation Army. The Chosen and The Salvation Army have an ongoing partnership that includes a permanent filming home for the Christian television drama on the grounds of Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian, Texas. Parts of the first two seasons were filmed at Camp Hoblitzelle, which now features a 30,000 square-foot soundstage and a permanently recreated village of Capernaum. Season three is now available to stream worldwide but, in advance of the release The Chosen held a teal-carpet premiere at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. Following the premiere, the creator of the show, Dallas Jenkins addressed the crowd and took questions, extolling the virtues of The Salvation Army and encouraging attendees to donate above and beyond the cost of tickets. Camp Hoblitzelle was the beneficiary of the evening's fundraising effort. For more stories like these, visit https://salvationarmysoundcast.org/satoday

It will shed light on a lot of questions you might have that arise out of this series that is taking the church by storm. _______________________________________________ SHOP/BROWSE THE SERPENTS & DOVES® SITE: https://www.SerpentsNDoves.com _______________________________________________ ERIC'S WEBSITE: http://www.EricBarger.com The Gospel of Matthew DVD: https://bit.ly/3jPGuZH The Gospel of Mark DVD: https://bit.ly/3QihPJg The Gospel of Luke DVD: https://bit.ly/3vIoEuw The Gospel of John DVD: https://bit.ly/3ZgntQj _______________________________________________ • SOCIAL MEDIA • INSTAGRAM: https://bit.ly/31r0QN8 TWITTER: https://bit.ly/34zsLMM FACEBOOK: https://bit.ly/2Eqf5cs --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/serpentsndoves/support
Today we're joined by Dallas Jenkins, creator and writer/director/producer of "The Chosen," the first multi-season show on the life of Jesus. We talk about his career in filmmaking and how a career failure led to an important lesson that changed his life. He shares why he created the show and why it seems to resonate so deeply with people. Then, we discuss how much work truly goes into writing a show that uses the Bible as its source. The goal, for Dallas, is to ask, "What is biblically plausible?" as he gets insight from biblical, historical, and cultural scholars to craft the characters. We discuss criticism of the show, much of which has centered around skepticism about LDS involvement in the show's distribution. And ultimately Dallas reminds us that while "The Chosen" is based on the Bible and the life of Jesus and his disciples, it doesn't claim to be the Bible, as only the Bible itself is the true authority. You can watch the third season of "The Chosen" on the Chosen app. --- Timecodes: (01:14) Dallas' introduction to film (07:05) Views on success (19:03) Biblical accuracy and creativity (23:20) Handling criticism (27:25) Mormon controversies (43:27) Clip from season 3 (45:20) Trusting God in the midst of pain --- Today's Sponsors: Good Ranchers — change the way you shop for meat today by visiting GoodRanchers.com/ALLIE and use promo code 'ALLIE' for a discount! "The Chosen," Season 3, launched last week in theaters worldwide. Audiences are able to see the first two episodes on the big screen. This is a fulfillment of director Dallas Jenkins' dream to bring the life of Jesus to TV and movie watchers everywhere. I spoke to Dallas at a convention in 2021 and his honesty gives insight into where we are now with the series. I hope you enjoy this special replay episode. As season 3 begins, Jesus gives the famous Sermon on the Mount, revealing the Beatitudes and feeding thousands with just a basket of fish and loaves. We know the miraculous end of this story, and season three begins to move away from the happy, fun, and Inspirational Jesus to the struggles of what will end with his death and resurrection. On this Thanksgiving weekend, Positively Joy presents a replay with Dallas as he discusses his intent for this series. Angel Studios features "The Chosen" and other Christian entertainment here.

Dallas Jenkins has created a different kind of series about Jesus. And, Jenkins said, he's “obsessed” with making the experience authentic and intimate for viewers. I spoke to Dallas at the National Religious Broadcasters convention in Texas. We had a great conversation but the audio was noisy, being on the conference floor. Still, his message is important and worth listening. And, when he talked about JOY he was really speaking my language! Key takeaways: Dallas made "The Chosen" after coming off a failed movie project He openly talks about sin He intentionally made the series cast diverse, especially in the portrayal of women. He said there is a difference between joy and happiness. "Joy is eternal." He tries to keep the show Biblically accurate while creating an interesting story. “I don't want people to glorify the show to the point where they think this is a replacement for the Bible,” Jenkins said. “I'm saying from the beginning, that the show is not God's word. Jonathan (Roumie), who plays Jesus is not Jesus. I'm not the creator of the universe. I'm a broken, flawed man … who's trying to do my best to capture the character and intentions of Jesus in the Gospels." “Cancel culture” insanity has consumed the country! Whether it's destroying historic statutes or condemning depictions of “white Jesus” the left is working overtime to dismantle every aspect of our culture. And while Black Lives Matter radicals like Shaun King call for Jesus to be cancelled we disagree! On this week's podcast we bring you the story of The Chosen -- an innovative new television series that shows Jesus through the eyes of those who knew him. Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/r-9jMu9fD_Q We are joined by The Chosen's director and creator Dallas Jenkins, who we are admittedly a little jealous of as Dallas beat our crowdfunding record from Gosnell by raising $10 million for his series. The Chosen is now the most successful media crowdfunded in history and it is the first multi-season television series that shows the life of Jesus. Even if you are not Christian or religious, Dallas' story about overcoming the mainstream media barriers is incredibly powerful. Don't miss this week's conversation with Dallas Jenkins -- one of the bravest conservative directors working today. We were introduced to Dallas years ago by the late Andrew Breitbart and we've been fans ever since (even though he beat our crowdfunding record!). The Chosen is an innovative new television show about the life of Jesus and told through the eyes of those who knew him. The show bypasses the mainstream media and is available only at the Chosen app on Google Play and the Apple Store. We cannot recommend it more! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ap-scoop/message
We are joined by an old friend of the show, Dallas Jenkins. He is the creator of “The Chosen”, a multi-season series on the life of Christ. It is shown in over 180 countries. How has it grown so substantially? There is an app that allows free streaming of the series available all over the world. He sticks around and talks about the upcoming awards season. Ricky Gervais’ intro at the Golden Globes broke the internet on both ends of the spectrum. People appreciated it, others not so much. Dallas talks about the vast difference between the Hollywood elite and the general population. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
(0:00-9:39) Easter is a time of joyous celebration. But what about the day after Easter? Brian and Ian discuss as pastors the day after the celebration of Christ's resurrection, as well as the events that happened in Sri Lanka that continue to unfold. (9:39-19:19) Easter brings with it difficult experiences as much as joy. Brian and Ian share stories from their Easter Sunday's and where they are now in their pastoring with regards to Easter services.
